I've never gotten color done so can't speak to that but I get the best haircuts of my life here. I go to Rocco every time and he's fantastic with long seamless layers and face framing. This is a very neighborhood-y spot I never make appointments I just call in the morning and they always fit me in. Old school style, nothing fussy just really good work. And their blowouts are fantastic!! $35 walk in during the summer and $40 any other time. If you want a good classic cut with a traditional bouncy blowout (no Utah curls here) this is your spot. Hello Everyone! I met with Antonio today at Da Pietro hair studio and for starters, everyone was so warm and welcoming . Antonio took the time to listen to my hair concerns and to what I was looking to do to my hair, since my hair had been over worked, dry, frizzy, and the color was not right, I literally said to him ,"I need a miracle"..he smiled and had me sit in the chair and started his magic. I went here for deep conditioning and blow-dry. Made an appointment on a Sunday at 5pm. When I arrived, they were already expecting me. The girl who greeted me was named Frida, and a sweetheart! She took my jacket, offered me a drink and picked out some magazines for me to read. It's great to be pampered every once in a while. My stylist was Marlen. She was very welcoming and chatty, made me feel comfortable. Extremely professional and gave me tips and suggestions on how to treat my hair. Styled my hair semi-wavy exactly how I asked. The owner is a lunatic and does not understand the concept of customer service or that the customer is always right. I walked in for a blowout, the cost is cheap, $29 for a walk-in. I went to pay and he says $30, I said the sign says $29, so I was curious. He said I asked for that stylist. I did not, I walked in, and she said I'll take you. He actually yelled at me that no, I asked for her. Fine, whatever. I go the following week and said to the girl at the desk, I need a blowout and a different girl heard me and said to go get washed. Again, he says $30 and I asked why and he said "You went straight to her". Again, I did not but then he went off on me. I paid and left and will never go back. He is crazy and mean! I made an appointment somewhere else but they cancelled on me so I came here. They took me without any reservation very quickly! Antonio didn't seem very friendly but I didn't mind until he started tugging at my ears trying to get the cotton to stay on my head.. I was getting a perm. He cut it very nicely but when I left my head felt so sticky from the product he used. I followed all the directions of not washing my hair two days after and I barely see any waves or curls in my hair. So I was wayyy over charged not pretty much a regular cut. My hair was short. And also be aware ladies, if you're buying groupon, they will make you come on a specific day of the week. you cannot choose your day even if you call well in advance. I called to book Tuesday for my appointment (which is not even a rush day since its middle of the week) and I was told I can only choose Monday or Wednesday. I came here because the 48th St. location was closed for good and I had a Lifebooker deal. Taking off a star because the management was terrible and didn't even bother posting online or making a phone message to inform patrons of the situation. I called for two weeks and never had a pick up. It was only until I made the trip there did I realize that it was closed. I went to the 75th St. location and was serviced by Mauricio. He was a nice man, but I had a horrible time with him. Not only did he call me an "oriental" on a few occasions and made references to his staff from China, he kept on saying "Xie Xie" to his staff while servicing me. I understand that he was from an older generation and might not be cued on racial sensitivity and was trying to genuinely connect with me, but it was done a little overboard. For my blowout, I specifically asked for a curled blowout but Mauricio forgot and blew dry it straight. When I reminded him, he half assed a hair flip. His blowout fell in two hours. I payed $55 (on top of a lifebooker purchase) and was overall very unimpressed and quite disappointed. They charge $100 for haircuts but still use Bed Head and Tresemme-- really now??? read more

I had heard from friends and yelpers that they are not very nice to people who purchase deals, but I didn't listen. I purchased a deal for a keratin treatment and immediately called to make an appointment because I only had Saturday availability. The appointment was for two weeks from the time I called, and then I called a few days before to confirm. The day of my appointment comes and I call to see how long I should expect to be there, and they supposedly have no record of my appointment. They don't even have my name in the system! Ciao! Buona sera! Come stai? I felt like I was right back on my little street in Roma, Medaglia D'oro, Serafina 8, that had the cutest little hair chop shop across the street. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a lovely man named Rocco (super Italiano), who met me with those lovely words in a beautiful accent -- he actually ended up being my hair dresser, which I couldn't have been more happy about. He took my coat and scarf and walked it to the back and hung it up for me. How cute is that? I told them I had a Lifebooker when I called earlier that day for an appointment. I was really eager to get my hair cut THAT DAY (you know when the urge just hits you?) and they were so accommodating and fit me right in. My hair was washed by a younger gentleman, nice scalp massage and deep conditioner. Rocco picked me back up and took me to his station, where he clothed me in his black cape, got out his scissors and started sizing me up. I had super, super long hair and was ready for a big chop. I showed him one photo of a graduated bob I liked, showed him a pic of a similar cut I had a few years ago -- he nodded and got to work. "Don't worry -- you will look won-der-ful!" he said. *sidenote, I normally don't trust hairdressers. I have had horror stories at even some of the more pricey salons in the city, so much so that I have been more than willing in the past few years to drive 3 hours one way to my trusted salon in my hometown. But I was feeling adventurous and for some reason, felt comfortable at the hands of my Rocco. Yes, MY Rocco. He snipped carefully, precisely, and didn't go too short all at once. The woman working the counter even gasped! when she saw how much length he was taking off. "Are you sure?!," she asked. I was. A good 45!! minutes later (I have NEVER had anyone take that much time to cut my hair before), the masterpiece was beginning to take shape. At one point we had both agreed to go a bit shorter. He took his time and made sure each angle was just perfect. He took his good old time -- just like the Italians do to make everything perfect (hair, food, wine, meals, vacations) to make the finishing touches -- then spent a good amount of time blowing my hair out with a small round brush. He polished my tresses so well, I couldn't even imagine getting the same results with my $200 flatiron I have at home (and still haven't been able to get it that great!). I was greeted with a smile and I parted with one. They were wonderful -- and truly what a "deal" experience should be like. Do I want to drop $140 on a haircut next time? Not sure my wallet can handle it, but my hair really does look fab and the service was beyond any expectations, and that is what would make me go back. Plus, everyone I know keeps saying that this is the BEST haircut/style I've ever had, so I know it's just not in my head. I put my trust in Rocco and he delivered. Bravo! I also went there because of the Groupon deal. Pro: I did single color processing (roots touch-up) and am satisfied with the result. Color blends in well with my existing color and my hair didn't smell like too much chemical afterwards. Somehow my whole hair color looked more uniform and healthy. Con: The place is outdated and equipments look old. Not really a salon, more like a neighborhood beauty shop. Both my stylist and the woman washing my hair were a bit rough (but I guess you can communicate with them, I didn't bother). Water was dripping down to my back when she rinsed my hair. The biggest issue (or surprise) I had is that they charged me $40 for blow-out afterwards because my $45 Groupon only covered coloring. This is definitely the first (I went to salons with deals before and never had to pay extra). Even when I go to salons without deals, blow-out is always included in services (hair-cut, coloring...). It was just a blow-out, no styling or anything. What do they expect, clients leave with their hair wet? Conclusion: If they charged me for blow-out to cover the discount on the deal, then I will definitely NOT go back. As much as I like the color, this place is not worth paying $90 plus $40 for single color processing. If their regular price covers blow-out, then I might go back. I first found out about Da Pietro through a Lifebooker deal for a blowout at an unbeatable price-- $15! I did my research and saw that the Yelp reviews were all pretty positive, which both comforted me and made me just a liiiittle bit suspicious. Why would such a well-received salon be giving such a deep discount on their services? But it was the holidays and I wanted to look all fancy on New Year's Eve so I went ahead and booked the appointment. When I arrived at Da Pietro, I was pleasantly surprised by the décor--sunny, bright and fairly neat (let me tell you, my expectations were LOW). However, despite the fact that I was one of the first appointments of the day, I felt very rushed from the moment I set foot in the salon. As other reviewers mentioned, they were quick to take my coat, but given that it was a freezing cold day and I was headed out of town I had several layers and a few bags with me. Rather than letting me get myself together at my own pace, they had me stand in the middle of the salon and hurriedly strip off my coat. In the middle of the process, I was rather brusquely asked to hand over my Lifebooker coupon which caused even more discombobulation. With all the commotion, my bags were forgotten and I had to carry them around with me to the shampoo station and then to the stylists' chair. My stylist was Teri, and I must say she did a great job with the blowout. I have very curly hair and she managed to make it look smooth and sleek while maintaining the volume. She curled and styled the ends without me having to ask. If I were to rate Da Pietro on her work alone, it would be at least a 4-star review. In the end, I think Da Pietro is a decent salon. My main gripe is that I felt somewhat disrespected as a Lifebooker client. In my opinion, if you are going to promote your business through a discounting service as a way of retaining customers, you should treat them as you would any other. read more

If there was a way to give negative stars I would. In a resolution to attempt to save money- I bought a deal for a single process. The hair dresser showed up 25 minutes late- unapologetic. Hair color was applied with a squeeze bottle- very drippy. Are you kidding me??? Squeeze bottle- what is this out of the box? The salon is dingy and dusty- not one person speaks clear English. If you don't speak Italian or Chinese- forget it. I don't know what I was thinking but I'm going back to the Red Door salon. Glad to pay George 200 for a single process and zahir 300 for a cut. I got my hair done by angelo and my friend had nimo i think. We got the color done first, and she got a darker black and was in love with it. I wanted to get my natural color to get my hair all one shade, and it came out dark dark brown almost black. Thats not my natural hair color, its a regular brown. I'm glad this 'mistake' worked in my favor, it might not for someone else, but im giving it a 5 stars bc i was in love with my color. the cut was also fabulous for the both of us. I've found my new Salon........ Marlene was awesome and very considerate of my hairdresserphobia. I explained how I only wanted a little trim, just enough to make my hair healthy, and she followed thru. I am really happy with the style she left me with. She made simple recommendations on how much she thought should be cut, and was very interactive throughout the appointment. I was very comfortable in her hands. She also went as far as to recommend an at home treatment for my dry hair, and offered some ideas on colors that would suit me. I highly recommend this Salon if your into clean, simple, old fashioned salons, without the lights, cameras, and obnoxious loud music. This was a very enjoyable experience, for something I usually dread having to sit through. I will be back to see Marlene! read more

I got a bloomspot coupon (full highlights $99 ) The woman that did my hair told me that they charged extra 45 dollars to gloss your hair- When you do HIGHLIGHTS ,THEY ALWAYS GLOSS YOUR HAIR WITHOUT CHARGING EXTRA MONEY, it is part of the process!!!!!! **They charged me 45 dollars plus taxes + taxes on the full highlights + tip (I tip her 80 box) **I ended up paying 231 dollars for a coupon that I bought for $99. Crazy,han? Never go there again, and, the front part of my hair got that horrible blond/orange color , when you don't wait enough time to get that platinum or very light blond color ( As I WANTED) Old place, employees talking bullshit during work,not any relaxing atmosphere or something like a hair salon is supposed to be. read more

What a lovely salon with a great team working there! My hairdresser Marlene was as sweet as can be. I was running 5-10 minutes late and she was completely understanding. She took my coat, offered me a beverage and ran outside to buy me a coffee! Who does that? Da Pietro Hair Studio does! I came in for a deep conditioning treatment and a blowout. The conditioning left my hair ridiculously smooth as it's typically dry from all the coloring I've done over the years. I so needed this treatment and SO glad I came here to get it done. I've been to quite a few salons in NYC but have never been treated so well by a hairdresser. Marlene made me feel extremely comfortable and relaxed - which was amazing after a long day at work. Once she washed my hair and started the blowout process - I was surprised she did such a quality job so quickly. My hair is LONG and thick so it usually takes a good chunk of time to get through my ridiculous mane. She must have finished in 45 minutes flat which is a true blessing for those of us on the go! I have been to Da Pietro a few times for blowouts through Vive and have always been beyond pleased with the styling, service, and staff. They have wonderful employees, great products, and my blowouts always last for a full work week which is really incredible. What a fantastic salon! I was running a little late and they were still able to take me in for my conditioning treatment and blow dry. My stylist didn't rush, but took her time and did an amazing job! My hair never felt so soft and silky smooth! I had bounce and volume in my ordinarily limp locks. There's nothing like feeling like a rock star once you're finished in the salon! Even with my lateness and the treatment, I was still able to make it to my concert on time that night! I visited Da Pietro a few days ago for a blowout. I was warmly greeted by Jasna who took me back for my blow out. She was super friendly and really wanted to understand how I wanted my hair to look. She listened to what I wanted, was very caring, educational, and did a great blow out. I would highly recommend her.
