I have lived in New York for over 40 years and have been to almost every famous and exclusive salon. There are many great hairdressers in the city. My hairdresser was also a dear friend of mine. When he passed away a few years ago I knew that I couldn't replace his friendship but a friend recommended a new hairdresser - Ania. My roommate and I decided to skip Drybar and opt for a blowout from this salon on our block instead. The price was higher but I give 2 stars for convenience and the fact they could fit us in the same day as I called to make the appointments. My stylist was critical of every aspect of my being for the next hour while she blew dry and curled my hair. My hair was too thin, breaks too easily, has been colored poorly, my boyfriend should not have stopped by to say hello, I was sitting unevenly, I was looking at my phone too much, etc. Her scoffing and rolled eyes did not end. I asked for loose waves, and she insisted on using a 1/2 inch barrel and pinning each curl to set. Even after asking her if maybe she should use a thicker barrel and not set because I didn't want to look like a poodle, she said I didn't know what I was talking about. Spoiler: I looked like a poodle. I regret paying $100 for an unfriendly stylist and a style that I did not like at all. The haircut was pretty good though (hence 2 stars). Take your money elsewhere! At least at Drybar, you know you will walk out with the style you ask for. read more

I have been going to Ania for years. I have always been super happy with the cuts, blow outs and color. This year, I decided I would straighten my hair for the summer season since my hair is hopelessly frizzy in humid conditions. The straightening was long and laborious, Ania went out of her way to make sure every stand was straightened numerous times. Her dedication and devotion was truly remarkable and very appreciated because the end result is spectacular. I am beyond thrilled and now feel like I should have done this sooner. After the straightening I wanted to color my hair a shade darker since the solution stripped the color. Ania suggested I wait a day. She wanted me to live with the new light color because she was sure I would come to my senses and leave it lighter. She was absolutely right. When I got home I got plenty of compliments from my husband and kids. And when I looked in the mirror I loved what I saw. She is absolutely amazing and has hands of gold, I came in with dark brown hair wanting to go blonde and not the yellow kind that you get at other salons but Platinum and Lili was able to over achieve exactly want I wanted in one shot, and WITHOUT completely damaging my hair, which was pretty surprising, but like I said LILI has hands of GOLD! I love this salon and I love my stylist Lili. Before the Covid Pandemic I was getting a blow dry once or twice a week. When the Pandemic came I was doing my hair myself as best as I could. Then in October 2021 I had a wedding and decided it was time to get my hair done professionally again. The salon I had been going to had moved. I would often pass Ania Rybka Salon on my many walks abe decided to give it a try. I couldn't have been happier. Everyone is very friendly and the stations are not on top of each as in many salons. Most importantly Lili listens to me. I am very particular about my bangs and she takes great care to be sure I am happy with them!! Maria, the hair extension operator decided in her mind that I don't trust her and when I went to book an appointment 6 months later she had words to tell me find someone else. I was a little in shock because she held in our mind for so long that I did not trust her. This is a hair salon!! I am not part of her family. lol I guess I ask to many questions and that made her mad and she decided that I did not trust her and she compared hair extensions to selling bikinis. I know that hair extensions is a service and bikinis are a product. Find another place that does hair extensions without drama and everything so sensitive and who works with you and not thinks every questions you ask like how many hair extensions come in a pack that immediately think you don't trust them. I have been going to Ania Rybka for a few years now and thought I was a valued customer. Ania had her assistant call me at 4:30 pm on a Friday to cancel my 5:00 pm appointment. She did this because there was a keratin treatment at the same time, and she remembered I had told her many times I could not be in the salon as I was allergic to the toxic keratin fumes. I told the assistant that I had a big important event Sat night and desperately needed my hair colored. I offered to come in at 6:00 pm as I had made my appt two weeks in advance. Ania said no and that she could only take me five days later the following week. I had been invited downtown that evening to go on a boat but had declined because I desperately needed my hair colored as I have dark hair and, at this point, very gray roots. I am very disappointed that Ania does not know how to treat a valuable steady client. I will say Jennifer is fantastic, as is Ai, who has cut my hair, and I give both of them five stars but Ania I give 1 star sadly. read more

I have been Ania's client for more then 3 years now. Ania is extremly talented ,She is true artist. I used to have highlights,.very blond for few years. I love it each time when she did them. Last year I decided to go back to my natural dark blond/brown color. I was scared but Ania said she can do it. And she did, And I love it again..... it was perfect , she matched my natural color so I did not have to do roots every 6 weeks . I love this salon! It's the best salon on the Upper East Side! It is a small cute boutique salon - non of that pretentious stuff that you see around. Just good stylists and great products. EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN & DISINFECTED IN THE DAYS OF THE CORONAVIRUS My long-time hairdresser moved to this salon over a year ago. It is always pleasant to visit and, of course, I have been very happy with my hair coloring and cuts. Today, 3/19/2020, I had an appointment. In these anxiety filled days, I wondered if I should be visiting the salon, but I wanted my treatment and also wanted to support a small business. Ania is carefully scheduling appointments so that the salon is not crowded. Clients are not being put next to one another in chairs (at least one chair in between). All of the people working there are wearing masks and gloves (and changing gloves between clients). There is hand sanitizer, and all of the chairs and knobs are being wiped down regularly with Clorox wipes. I even saw them sanitizing the pen customers use to sign receipts! If you want to get your hair done and feel comfortable doing so, this is the place. read more

Ania is a great hairstylist, and while I've only gotten my hair cut by her and not the other hair dressers I assume they are of the same caliber. Having left New York for a few months, I came back to have my hair cut by Ania. She noticed the texture of my hair seemed funny and said "did you get you haircut by someone else?" She clearly has an eye for quality to a fine detail. She is also very nice and a pleasure to talk with. The women who shampoo your hair are also very nice. I've been going to Ania for 9 years and I NEVER let anyone else near my hair. Ania is a complete genius. I say this because we recently embarked on a pretty big project regarding my hair... So I am a natural brunette, with brown hair just about as dark as it gets. I've colored my hair with pink/blue/red/purple streaks and I've coated the whole lot of it in red tint-basically I've been to every hair frontier their is, except for one. I had never gone completely blonde. I decided going blonde was going to be my next experiment and of course I can only trust Ania to do it. She handled my hair (as she always does) with complete professionalism and care. It was a bit of a journey to bleach my whole head because I have colored my hair so many times, so parts came out different colors, but Ania evened out my whole head and put toner in that made it match my skin tone. Now, Ania, being the salon owner, is a busy lady, but she had the help of nearly every other hair specialist in her salon-together, they are a cohesive hair-doing machine. My thanks to everyone in the salon! I was a little worried going into the transformation, but Ania worked miracles on my head and I am even happier than I thought I'd be. This salon advertises as a moderate priced salon. Do not be fooled by the $$ signs. They charge $90 for a trim on a 9 year old. When questioned about the price they told me that if you are a walk-in client then the price is $80 but if you are recommended a stylist then the price is $90. eeded a keratin treatment, I get one 3 times a year for the last 5 plus yrs!!! I was looking for a new place as my stylist is now in Brooklyn and I live on the upper east side. A few salons were recommended to me.... I went to all 3 and spoke w/ someone there re/ their keratin options!!!! Well needless to say I chose Ania Rybka and was using Ania herself. She convinced me of a new type of keratin called Magic Sleek!!! More expensive but NO CHEMICALS!!! Also said it retains your body in your hair instead of being chinese straight...I was sold and made an appt!! Here goes.... I have the process done and while she is hot ironing it...my hair which is normally brunette w blonde highlights is now BLONDE BLONDE BLONDE!!!!! I am devastated!! Of course she says no worries she is going to fix it!!! Well fix it??? I now have black [Dark dark dark brown] hair w coppery highlights...UGH!!! She says you see you look just the same as you did before...who is she kidding!!! But I paid my bill and even tipped because I am me... I waited a couple of days and washed my hair...the body that she said I would have is no where to be seen...my hair is limp and straight!!!!!! Wow...never never after washing my hair w keratin have I had such limp hair Anyway I decided to call Sleek Hair to see what can be done. First lie - THERE ARE CHEMICALS!!!! They just say they are less harsh chemicals..... 2nd lie - they tell all the salons they use to warn customers that there color might get very light??? Never told me ... Last Sleek Hair contacted the salon and asked her to go step thru step what she did. Well they realized she didn't rinse out the product before flat ironing it and therefore all color was stripped from my hair and I have limp hair. Sleek Hair called me back and told me what went wrong and apologized . They said since the hair is so dark underneath I can't do anything until the non permanent hair color she used washes out and then I can color my normal color. Also they claim the body will come back w/ in a month . Did I mention I paid alot more for this process than a normal keratin, I was thrilled to hear no chemicals and body in my hair!!!! Now I just want to not look in a mirror for a month!!! Please no ANIA!!!!!! Other people who work there might be great...but please do not make the same mistake I made. Last Ania told Sleek Hair if I wasn't happy I should come back in and she will fix it....I told them I will never go there and trust her again!!! Fool me once but please!!! read more
