Quality and care should be in their headline because that's what you are guaranteed when you go to TwoDo. I found the salon here on yelp after searching for Kerastase salon, and I'm glad I did! They are the only salon I trust in New York City with quality hair coloring, and this after a few failed attempts with salons at lower price points. I try to rock a red and purple bright hue and not every colorist can accomplish this look! But, an experienced one can! Megan and Olga were tremendous. Megan is a fantastic stylist and colorist with decades of experience and truly knows what she is talking about when it comes to hair and beauty! AND she doesn't skimp out on quality products. Kerastase and Oribe are luxury and those are TwoDo's standard shampoo/conditioner/styling tools. (Tip: aveda is bc of alcohol). When I came in I wanted a variety of colors blended into an ombré, and Megan invented a fab color mixture for my hair. See pic! This isn't one of those quick cut, color and go shops that book four people during one time slot. This is an established salon that leans towards the pricey side but for good reason. They take time time to make you look good. I've always walked away with a polished product, and don't feel guilty for paying extra because the look is worth it! Megan has been doing my curls and color for 16 years! I'll never leave home without her.

I moved to NYC two years ago, and hadn't done anything with my hair since then. It was just too overwhelming to try and find a new place for cut and color. But enough was enough. I could almost sit on my hair, but the bottom inches were so damaged, and I really needed some kind of change. I came across TwoDo on Yelp, and decided to try it, got an appointment later in the afternoon. Olga cut my hair and Aaron (?) did the coloring, and I'm really happy with the results. Michelle also did my shampoo and gave a really lovely scalp massage. The space is basement level, but really well lit/designed, not at all pretentious, and quite a nice place to be. I'm one of those people who doesn't know how to describe what I want, so I'm always nervous some place new until I trust the stylist to figure out what's most flattering for me. It did end up a little shorter overall than I had hoped, but I think it was necessary, and Olga did show me how much she thought should be cut before she did it. She also did a really nice blow out that lasted for two days! I was a little nervous while Olga and Aaron did their work--they made it look so easy and matter of fact, I was worried it would turn out poorly. But they're just really good at their jobs! I love the highlights, and how careful Aaron was in not giving me zebra stripes, being particular about which little wisps of hair got painted/foiled, and which didn't. It was a nice blend of colors that too my part-Asian very dark hair, and lightened it to more of a brunette that still looked natural. I forget exactly how much it was, but I remember that it felt comparable to what I used to pay in Cambridge/Boston, which I figure is a pretty good deal for UWS/Manhattan. I will definitely be back! (The only slightly annoying thing was another customer who talked loudly the entire time I was there, but it's a small space, and some things can't be helped.) read more

1 star is 1 too many.... I blame myself for giving this place another shot. I tried contacting them about my experience but received no response. So here is my update for anyone who cares to read: Things CAN get worse when you don't think it is possible!! I went there for my promised Free blow out but the stylist said that I should Purchase a single process too since I was there and "they were willing to give me a free blow out!" It was super awkward saying no, and thinking that it would be a straightforward task, I agreed. how very foolish of me. Upfront, (even though you should not need to) I told him that I don't want to see a band of different color. He responded: "I'm a professional and know what I'm doing". Ok! Well I will spare you the details but I ended up with a unique combination of Patchy on one side and a 2.5 inch Brassy brown Band. Not to mention a burned scalp in several areas because he was too good to be looking at where he was holding the hair dryer. If I have one piece of advice it would be to avoid this place at all costs. The owner was standing right next to him trying to console another unhappy customer and did not care that after spending $400 at her salon I had a red streaked version of my brown hair. I had never felt robbed but now I do and lost all respect for her too. I paid for my single process and left a 20% tip too because I'm way too nice and clearly nice does not matter to these people or they would have fixed the mess they put me in. After a disaster balayage at a prestigious soho salon, I came to twodo with a brassy bleached mess looking to be fixed for my baby shower the following day! I spoke with Meghan and Michelle and consulted with them about what was feasible and a temporary fix. Michelle ended up mixing a toner and gloss and did her best to take out as much of the orange and brightness from my hair. She did an amazing job and I am so happy and relieved that I found them! I came here as a hair model for a roots touch-up/single process for blonde hair. Bruna took care of me; not only was she sweet and personable, but she did an amazing job on my hair! I'm blonde again! And it looks better than when I first went blonde, for a bleach/tone class at a different salon. Megan, the owner, watched over every step of the way, which was reassuring. They really took their time with me and we had a blast, talking and laughing the whole time. Some stylists are too focused on your hair that they forget about the overall experience and that the hair they're dealing with belongs to a person! Here, they seamlessly balanced technical finesse with sincere, engaging conversation. When Bruna finished, she apologized that she wouldn't have time to blow-dry my hair, as she had a client waiting. I said it was no problem, but she kindly arranged to have another stylist (awesome guy, forgot his name unfortunately) blow-dry my hair. They all complimented me on my hair and Megan asked if they could do a bit of styling and take pictures. I agreed without hesitation--love being pampered! Another stylist came over to do some trendy braids along the crown of my head, and then the guy who blow-dried my hair curled out the rest (expertly--with a flat-iron!) I totally got the star treatment. They said I was their favorite hair model ever, and I would like to say that this is the best salon I have ever hair modeled for! Came in for BOXER BRAIDS (Dutch style). Margaret did an amazing job! I have short and thin hair but she was able to make the braids look fuller! They lasted a few nights with wearing silk headbands to bed. Made my vacations a breeze. I'll definitely be back for more braids (at least). read more

Hair Experience Perfection. I'm down to earth and just want good cut, color and products from my hair salon and this is exactly what I got at TwoDo. This place is super relaxing and real. The staff is friendly but not over the top - the decor is cosy and not that modern ikea look (typical) and the products are top of the line. Meghan the owner is so cool and kind but most importantly extremely talented - I love my new color and it's still soft & shiny. It's so important to have a good colorist and I finally found that in Meghan. The salon feels like a hideaway - like all great places in NYC. The location is easy to find but hard to see - look for the stained glass. I received a cut and color at TwoDo. I highly recommend Kelsey O. for both services. She did an amazing job while keeping my length as I requested and giving me an entire new look. Super calm with a great sense of humor, your dye time will be done before you know it when you're in her chair. I got so many compliments at work, from my boyfriend and even strangers about my new 'do! The salon itself is located downstairs, this can be a little disorienting for those of us (me) who are directionally challenged. Look for the stained glass windows! Inside, the salon is expertly kept just like it's patrons and staff. The soft music playing in the background coupled with a hot green tea is a sure way to put anyone in a relaxed state. I wanted a pretty intense and out-of-the-ordinary color experience, something Megan had never even done before, but she did a bunch of research, ordered special dyes, and talked me through all my options until we came to a totally unique and empowering look. I never really go to salons but this place is so warm, familial, and inviting - truly unpretentious just like they say. Michelle gave me a lovely trim and got my bangs exactly how I like, and Megan and Michelle worked tirelessly together for hours to get my multi-step color process absolutely perfect. Then Kevin took great complimentary photos of my new look, which made me feel like a million bucks! I am writing a rave for the fabulous waxing that JOANNE does at Twodo. I've been waxed all over Manhattan, and Joanne does a wonderful job. I've now been twice to see her for a brazilian bikini and eyebrow. She takes her time (not too much time - just right), and is pleasant, professional, and leaves me with a wonderful result! I highly recommend her. Maybe the salon can give her a wheely cart to put her wax on so she doesn't have to keep reaching back and forth - though not a speck of wax was spilled on me, I think it doesn't make much sense. I was a regular TwoDo customer for nearly two years. I generally went to Megan as I had read about her expertise with color. I have also seen Stephen for a haircut, he is very personable and does a good job. My experiences with Megan ( the owner of TwoDo) were generally good, however sometimes I did not feel like the center of her attention when she was working on my hair or having her assistant work on my hair. Sometimes it felt like she had to deal with every little problem that comes up with every customer. I basically stopped coming here because the results were not up to par with what I was paying. Often they did good work, but one too many times my hair had that awful orange tint, finally I just decided to save money and stopped going to TwoDo. Since then, I have heard about the recent upheaval, where half the regular long time staff abruptly up and quit. It makes you wonder what goes on behind the scenes. That being said, my only gripe really is this salon is just too expensive for the results you get. The staff are generally warm and welcoming, even if it is a little faux, that's to be expected probably at any hair salon. Krista, Megan's former assistant, is now a full time colorist, and I think she will do great as she was always very personable and did good work. read more

I saw Danielle too and had seen Art from time to time. I wish I knew what really happened as I agree the salon is not the same since every single stylist left all at once. It is not clear whether they just wanted to open their own business or this was such an awful place to work and so they all left. In any case I have yet to go back until they get their act together. This place has been around for a while and while over the years this is the second thing to go on that is weird, the first was when they just raised their prices before sending a notice, you found out when you paid, I have confidence they will get it together. Find new great stylists and go back to being the great little neighborhood salon they were before the mass exodus of stylists. read more

This salon is just OK...it's certainly no frills and with the recent price increase it's expensiive.... It's runs pretty smoothly...but I've been left waiting in the colorist's chair. for up to 40 mins..ok so things happen. I understand that it can take several visits to get color right....it'been almost a year still not there. I go to the least expensive hair stylist good not great...she left. Color, cut- I've never gotten anything more than a trim, blowout $258.00 (plus tax and tip)= nothing special... No frills, no thrills. read more

The Stylist and Colorist that I go to get 5 stars--Love them! This is a review of salon policies that I've experienced. What I don't like is how the salon is managed. They have recently increased prices for all their color services. It's a pretty hefty increase, about 25%. They rationalize this by saying that color prices have risen while their rates have been the same since 2007. 25%???? I was not told about the price increase when I booked the service even though I am a longtime customer. There was a very small card announcing the increase at the reception counter when I arrived. This is very poor management. It had happened to me before at this salon with the price of a haircut. I didn't find out about this price increase until I was checking out. Not to inform your customers in a straightforward way is very BAD business. These "consummate professionals" should know better. read more

I very recently had the good fortune to place my long, lightened/highlighted tresses in the uber-talented hands of the PHENOMENAL professionals at TwoDo Salon. First off: FIRST Impressions DO count and receptionist/scheduler EIleen made a mighty favorable one. During my initial phone contact with the salon, Eileen was friendly, mega-efficient and [as per the salon's policy, I would presume] very helpfully specific about prices. Instead of the typical vagueness offered up by many salons - - e.g., ".... that [price] depends on your hair... Our colorist/stylist will assess you..." - - Eileen straightforwardly provided me with pricing guidelines, thus assuring me that TwoDo was affordable for my pocketbook. And my booking experience was clearly a wonderful indication of things to come. I arrived punctually and there was not a moment of wait time. I was immediately ushered in to meet superb stylist Chi who was to cut my hair post-color. He was so attentive and thorough in his consultation/evaluation process, asking smart, thought-triggering questions about my daily/weekly hair routine, lifestyle, and even if the "heaviness" of my tresses ever proved an annoyance. Plus Chi exudes such a calming, affirming Zen-like energy which instilled great confidence in me. And, boy, can he listen to and REALLY HEAR a client.. Even though I'm a woman "d'un certain age," I still have good hair, stay in optimal shape, am not employed in the corporate world, and have always been a long-haired gal. Chi, without an iota of pandering, was wonderfully complimentary about my hair quality and professionally confirming about my commitment to keeping it long. Since I was new to TwoDo I did not yet know that the lovely, vibrant redhead colorist working on a client at a nearby station was owner Megan, who would be doing my single process and "framing" (1/4 head highlights). Even as she was fully engaged in finishing up with her client, it was apparent that she was monitoring my consultation with Chi. This proved very helpful and productive since, obviously, there must be synergy between cut and color - - An harmonious double helix. Also, once it was time to have my Megan consultation, this highly experienced professional colorist already had much of the scoop on my wants, likes and needs. And talk about NOT feeling rushed... This initial consultation with Megan was truly the LONGEST I've EVER had with a hair professional in my four decades of salon-going! First off, she too kindly complimented my head of hair, in a totally professional, non-B.S. way. Then Megan inquired as to what I liked/disliked about my existing base color, highlights, lowlights; and asked if I had a picture of myself depicting a "winning" color combo by my standards. Again, lovely Megan really LISTENS and really HEARS her client. I felt such instant trust and confidence in her talent and sense of aesthetics, that I didn't even need have her elaborate on her gameplan for my hair. But, of course, as the pro she is, she did just that. And I appreciated Megan's forthcomingness in explaining that she'd be able to render much of what I wanted to implement/correct on that first visit, but that it might take three visits in total [over the course of approximately 6 months] to arrive at my optimal color - - given that there was a good deal of disparity, damage and brassiness to overcome. Well, guess what? Despite her disclaimer Megan GOT IT RIGHT first time out! I was thoroughly pleased and delighted with the outcome. Her skill, combined with her artist's eye, resulted in my hair looking beautiful and far healthier, with a natural-looking lightened base color and wonderfully rendered high- and lowlights. During my next visit (probably not necessary until late August) I will most likely opt for a few more blonde highlights framing the face. But I also appreciate the fact that Megan opted for moderation during my first visit - - instead concentrating on color correction and health restoration. And, needless to say, Megan's magnificent color would not have shown to advantage without Chi's fantastic cut. His artistry and technique imparted vastly improved shape, movement and overall health and shine to my hair, while sacrificing only enough length to rid my ends of tackiness. I also like the fact that there is no pushy, hard-sell of products. TwoDo Salon uses the wonderful, high-end Oribe line. When I explained that I could splurge on only one Oribe product that day, Chi provided me immediate guidance, suggesting which product would give me the most bang-for-my-buck. BOTTOM LINE: TwoDo is a MUST DO! read more

Being a southern girl with blonde hair, I was skeptical going anywhere to have my hair colored and cut. After reading reviews on Yelp and doing many a walk by of this salon- I can say that Two Do is amazing!! I went in mostly for a color correction because I like to play with hair color and the dark color I put on my hair faded to a nice green- blonde shade. Gross. Also, the last person do actually color my hair fried the shit out of it. I have anxiety over getting my hair cut-mostly because it takes FOREVER for it to grow out. Ishmal was my colorist. He took a good 15-20 minutes deciding what to do, how to do it and not f$&* up and also he consulted with the person who cut my hair before he colored it. He could have easily given me what I wanted (back to my old butter blonde self), but he educated me on what he was going to do, why he was doing it and then in 2 odd months, we could add more blonde. I appreciated this very much because I hate blondes with fried hair. Danielle-hair cutter extrodinaire-suggested that I (gasp) cut off 2 inches. I said I couldn't do that but I could compromise with cutting one inch. She even taught me how to style my bangs, which I have had for about 2 years and no one has ever taught me how to style them. The cost was on the pricey side (for me) $284 before tip-3 colors in my hair, a deep conditioner and a cut and style. But my hair is healthy and shiny and I am impressed and happy!!! I went to this salon, to model for a color apprentice. We communicated thru e-mail, and confirmed a single process with face-framing highlights. When I get there, she says 'No', your hair's not healthy... highlights are not suitable'...etc... So anyway, I thought I was getting permeant color, then we have a discussion about that also... So anyway in the end, I had to have a 'demi' color in my hair, at least she could the color right, I wanted a dark brown color. She blowouts my hair, and my hair is black ! She says 'Oh no, it's a chestnut brown' ! Yeah right ! Then, add insult to injury, I had to pay the product fee of $20 !!! It would of been worth the money, if it what I asked for, but honestly if I wanted black color, that's my natural. Very dissapointed, now, I have to go to my regular salon, and get this fixed ASAP ! Had a great cut and style by Chi. First time at this salon, which is a little gem on the UWS. I was greeted, looked after and spent just over an hour there. All the staff were great. I was going from long to short hair and Chi spent time discussing the cut, style and long term management and benefits. The cut was done efficiently and with care. Chi spent time perfecting it and styling it. There's a reason he's the resident trainer. By far the best cut I have ever had in NY. Prices were reasonable for the UWS and there was no overt or harassing selling of product like in other salons I have gone to. i've been going here for a little over a year, and have loved all my haircuts. its a small place, but everyone there is really nice, and not pretentious. i'd been going to the same salon for 8 years, so this was a huge switch for me. i am happy though; my haircuts have maintained their style and cut longer than expected. the prices are nyc-standard, so expect to pay around 80 bucks, including tip. but you do get all the hot tea you could desire! read more

Lenora the colorist is great. Totally unpretentious, yet friendly and KNOWS what she is doing. I've gone to her a few times and been very happy wioh the result both times. The second time, I wanted my hair a little darker than it was and she let me come in for a glaze to darken it a few more shades. She really knows what she is doing and how these products will react on your hair. I came in the first time all frazzled because someone else had messed up my hair, she graciously calmed me down and worked my hair like magic. The place also is very cute and cozy. I adore this salon. Went on a crappy winter day, and asked them to change over my look because I feeling so blah. Megan (the owner) did exactly what I wanted with the color even when I had trouble giving her specifics. James, the stylist, listened my concerns about split ends and not loosing to much length and gave me a great cut that was easy to maintain and still looked classy (even when I had to do it at home). The place isn't cheap, but it's in keeping with UWS prices, and worth every penny. I plan to go back for all my hair needs. read more

I came to Two Do years ago for both cut and color. When the cuts became too expensive, I went somewhere else for both, but nothing matched the excellence of color jobs by Megan Gordon. I found a place where I could get my hair cut well/reasonably, but I began seeing Krista for my color, because she's more affordable than Megan, who is the owner. I can't say enough good things about Krista and Two Do's color. They listen to clients, and sometimes, they even listen too much. Recently, I gave some instructions to Krista to make my highlights lighter, but the result was too light. I came in for a fix the next day, and then the opposite happened: the highlights were submerged in glaze. I wrote to Two Do, and they graciously offered for me to come in for a third time. Krista, consulting with Megan, put a lot of thought into the fix, which involved getting some of the glaze out to brighten the highlights. They also put a special curly hair mask on my hair, and now it looks great. I feel that Two Do truly abides by the retail adage: the customer is always right. They will work on your color until you are happy. Krista is also just a very lovely person--kind and determined that her clients walk away smiling. read more

I got a great cut and had a great experience at TwoDo. Chi cut my hair and did a great job. And I got a sensational head massage with my wash. I've lived with the cut for two weeks just to make sure it looks as good when I dry it as when i walked out of the salon. It does. As for the atmosphere: comfortable and gracious. read more

I have been here many times because of the proximity but am usually disappointed. This salon is no better than a Supercuts, not much creativity or thought going into what they do but it will cost you as much as if you went to the best salon in NYC so you are better off going to the best salon for the money. I was stunned at the price and very displeased with the haircut and color after this recent trip - they did exactly what I asked them not to do and were not paying attention. I have really short hair so I get my locks chopped a lot. Sasha at TwoDo is great. She is funny and is flexible about the cut--there are times when I want it to be longer/shorter and she adjusts instead of being rigid like most hairdressers I have encountered. Salon is clean and easy--I don't feel like I am under the big lights if you will. You can actually sit there and have a conversation with the dresser. Prices are decent!! read more
