    Capriciosa

Simple and good As Americans on holiday, this was our first pizza in Italy. We weren't too impressed when compared to what we are used to in the US. My wife ordered a Margarita which looked more like a cheese pizza, I got a Capriciosa (ham, mushrooms, artichoke) which was made with canned mushrooms. I've since had a second pizza in Italy which also used canned mushrooms, so maybe that is all proper and good. My pizza was gritty in texture and the bottom crust weak, and it tasted average. Service was fine. It took us a little too long to get our server's attention to get the bill, but that was likely just a lack of experience on our part. Nice place, outdoor seating, but a nearby smoker spoiled what was a good spot. Again, adjusting to the way things are in Italy. I'm giving a generous 4 star rating to account for our lack of a baseline on what to expect.

My opinion and our family's opinion is that the food was delicious and the service was excellent we would come back

On our first full day in Venice, Gayle, Erin, Jim, and I had just came back from Murano Island and were ready for Lunch. We decided to wander a bit inland to avoid the St. Marks Square crowd. At some point, we encountered Da Roberto and not knowing "right from wrong" dining choice-wise, we took a seat at an outdoor table. This Tavern is situated on Riva degli Schiavoni and serves a fairly tasty pizza. We also enjoyed chatting and relaxing with our favourite adult beverage and watching the Venice world go by. Service was friendly, attentive, and relatively quick.

Pretty comprehensive menu for the pastas and the pizzas, but I would suggest sticking with the pastas. The pizzas were mediocre in my opinion but my spaghetti carbonara was on point, I very much enjoyed it. It's a decent spot for al fresco dining in Venice that doesn't have too much foot traffic. Service was friendly.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here on a recent trip to Venice. We wanted something a little off the beaten path but not too far from our hotel near St. Mark's Square. This did the trick. Unlike some of the other establishments in Europe, service here was surprisingly speedy and attentive (and our waiter looked like he was straight out of the Jet Set), and the prices weren't too bad. We each enjoyed a glass of Prosseco (when in Venice...) and split a cheese pizza and a serving of lasagna. I agree with the previous poster that the pasta trumps the pizza. The lasagna was simply excellent. As a side note, the restroom was incredibly clean. Always a plus.

Generally mediocre but pleasant nonetheless, my namesake's trattoria is pricey for the portions but has a nice atmosphere. Next to a small canal, the outdoor patio is quaint and comfortable. Service was pretty good if a bit slow; that said, we did have to ask for oil and the bread was sparse. Each dish we ordered was rather standard, with little imagination and on the small side (pesto penne was simply that; some meat would have been a nice addition). For the price, there are better offerings, but it's hard to beat the location and charm.

I would give it 2.5 stars. Good service but the food was just ok. If you order the oysters (only 5 for 20 euros), note that they don't provide them like the US. (No cocktail sauce, vinegar or horse radish. The waitress claimed that they were delicious (but I think she upsold me). I had the fettuccini with seafood, once again, it was just ok. Nothing special, keep walking if you have time.

The Ryanair of dining, hidden charges, quick turn service and poor quality food. Not recommended.

Miserable and rude service. Don't waste your time. You're better off eating dead pigeon out of a week old dumpster. Complete waste of money.

Definitely a tourist trap. The food is only okay and the service is poor. The pizza was much better than the pasta however

But what they've created can be a very fun experience if approached with the right attitude. Come during daylight hours, hopefully late afternoon (for lunch/drinks/appetizers) and sit only at an outside table along the Grand Canal. Situated near the bridge to Piazza Romolo, Rio Novo isn't on a very attractive part of the canal. Ignore the mass of people hurrying back to the bridge to catch their bus to who knows where. Look only at the canal. This might be the busiest, most intensely crowded part of the Grand Canal and it's a gas to watch. Motorboats kicking up wake, tourists on private water taxis making their way to a more attractive part of town and, once in a while some gondoliers taking passengers in a part of the canal far from serene. Is all of this fun to watch? Indeed. The staff here aims to please and will happily grab your camera and wait patiently for pedestrians to pass by before snapping a few dozen photos of you enjoying the place. After your meal, the server will return with an ice cold, complimentary Limoncello for you. And the food and drink? Very reasonably priced and satisfying (we enjoyed both spaghetti and lasagna), especially when you throw in the waterfront entertainment. There's a million prettier canal-adjacent restaurants, pricier and run by Italians. That said, Rio Novo is a fun place from which to enjoy the hustle-bustle of the canal along with well-priced, satisfying food and drink.

So we came here for an early dinner (around 5pm), kitchen is open through! Took a nice table inside by the window. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Staff/owner very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome here. Inside it's a nice, cosy atmosphere. Good selection of wine on the menu as well. For all kinds of budgets. And at the counter a nice display of all kinds of seafood. Lovely place. We've ordered the Crudo di Mare plate and Spaghetti Vongole. And a .375ml bottle of their white house wine, which turned out to be a good pairing with the seafood. Both dishes were excellent! Plenty of Vongole (clams) in the pasta dish, Spaghetti were perfectly cooked. Vongole were nice and fresh and the dish perfectly spiced (not too much, which is good). A real highlight definitely the Crudo di Mare. Two langoustines (so nice and sweet flavour), two red shrimp. scallops, tuna, swordfish, oysters and tuna tartare. All fresh, all tasty. An excellent mix of wonderful fish and seafood. Quality wise along on top with the best ones we've had so far (we love Crudo di Mare). And all is nicely presented. Really made our day, this meal here. After the meal we even got some aperitif on the house. A wonderful place. Feels very relaxed, lots of great items on the menu. And really fair prices, this is a real gem here with great value. And we will definitely be back next time in Venice. Highly recommended!
