It was our last day in Hawaii, and we only had a couple of hours before heading to the airport. We decided to end our trip with two classic Big Island cocktails. They were good, and the bartender was nice. She honestly made the whole atmosphere of the place! Unfortunately, the tacos we ordered were really disappointing. Maybe tacos just aren't their strongest dish, since I noticed other table had chicken wings, and those actually looked much better. One small note about the piña colada: it was made with ice cream. It was refreshing in the heat and definitely tasty, but it also made the drink much sweeter and heavier. Personally, I would have preferred a more classic piña colada without ice cream. Overall, the cocktails and the bartender were great. Just maybe skip the tacos. read more

First stop after arriving in Kona, steps from our Hotel and it was PERFECT. The ocean views, the cold beer and the delish ono bites. Our kids got food also and loved it. Great little place along the Kona Coast. Nice view of the bay watching all the fishing boats. They have a nice little shrimp dish and Ono dish. Preferably I would suggest the shrimp dish and anice side of crispy fries. The server was cool and very nice following up on people's orders. We stopped by here after a couple other stops, having cocktails and decided to continue our fun. We came from Kona Inn and wanted to have a mai tai. As you walk into the restaurant, it's very quaint. The restaurant itself is very small, but there is outside seating where you can sit and people watch. The ocean is literally right across the street and it was just the perfect breeze to keep us cool while enjoying our cocktails. At one point it did start to rain, but we were under the covered patio so it did not bother us. The bartender was really on top of it and made sure our cocktails were filled and if we needed anything else. They do have a food menu, but we were not hungry. The food menu is on the lighter side. (Last visited 12/14/2022.) On a Norwegian cruise around the Hawaiian islands and today's stop was in Kona! While exploring "The Big Island" on the Kona side we saw this restaurant with these big giant signs out front that said "WINGS" on it. Well, they worked because if you invested that much money into them signs to bring me in, they better be good... Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is so cool and so chill. It has amazing views that look right out over the ocean and toward the cruise ports. The whole thing gives me tiki hut vibes and to delivers them very well. Service: I can't remember the young lady that took care of us, but she was great. Super friendly, bubbly, uplifting and made sure we had everything that we needed. Food: So upon walking in you see a popcorn machine! I'm a sucker for some freshly popped corn so I got some! It's complimentary of course. It was salted well and just gets your palate ready for more food! My first beer was the Cocoa Brown Beer from the Kona Brewing Company (located close by actually). The beer was very dark, but not too thick like a port or stout. It tasted like an IPA and a port had a baby, a lil' swirl action. It also had a bit of a chocolatey flavor to it that I was a fan of. I just didn't like the bitterness of the IPA part. Our first flavor of wings were the Kona Gold. The wings were of a decent size and reminded me of a honey mustard. They were cooked well and the meat came off the bone pretty easily. These were a golden BBQ sauce basically, but the sauce kinda left my taste buds pretty quickly. Next up were the Hawaiian Chile & Garlic wings. These looked like a typical sweet Thai chili sauce. However, there was a good crisp on the skin of the wing, there was a great deal of the sweet Thai flavor that blended well with the garlic. Last, but not least were the Hot wings. A classic. These definitely smelled hot and had the spiciness to back it up. The spice came in right up front and lingered for quite a while. I was pleasantly surprised with these. Value: For Hawaii, this place was actually very affordable. 6 wings for $10.00 and 10 wings for $20.00. The popcorn was free of course and the beer was, I don't remember. Lol. In conclusion, if you're looking for Hawaiian food, you could bypass this place, but if you're looking for a little bit of home, some familiarity, some decent wings and good beer, check this place out! read more

This place is a joke now. Ask about happy hour where the beverages used to be 50% off and now we are told a $12 or $14 drink is a dollar off for happy hour! What a joke. I asked the bartender about it and she looked at me like I was crazy and she never heard of such a thing. So I get a $14 watered down mai tai that had a line and cherry in it and no pineapple. Gross. Avoid this place. Obviously this person thought I was some tourist fresh off the plane but I live here and unfortunately downtown Kona can keep their bs for the tourists that want to get ripped off. Don't go here since they obviously cater to the alcoholic regulars that go there from what I saw. Sadly disappointed since this place used to be a great deal compared to others. Go to Oceans or somewhere else where you can get a mai tai for $5 all day. Da Shark Shack sucks. The only good thing is the view since the ocean is right across the street. Oh I did get $2 off each drink as a gracious gesture from the bartender since I thought they were 50% off. So basically there is no happy hour here unless it's reserved for certain people. This is why I don't come to Kona. It's getting so ghetto and way too expensive for what you get. Look people there are other places on this island to go that are way better. Try then! read more

All in all a good experience. We enjoyed our meal. This is a good option if you're looking for a bar with a view. We ordered a beer, the shrimp bites, and a basket of fries. The shrimp was really good. It was cooked just right - juicy and tasty. The fries were crinkle cut fries. They were hot and fresh, but bland. They reminded me of the fries you would get at your local municipal swimming pool snack bar. Service was prompt and efficient. There is a free parking lot kind of behind the bank of businesses up the hill. If you can find a spot there, it's worth it as we previously had to pay &17.50 for an hour in a paid spot up the road. If I'm going to dock them for anything besides the fries, it's the ketchup packets rather than a squeeze or glass bottle option. read more

Stopped in at what used to be our favorite place for a MaiTai; things have changed at this place. My wife and I both ordered the MaiTai's and sadly they were not up to par. The first thing we noticed was there was no cherry and the second thing was the pineapple wedge on both drinks was rotten and moldy. I mentioned this to the bartender when he asked how we were doing and he acted like he didn't even care. His comment was "oh yeah" I don't recommend this place and will be looking for a different place to buy my MaiTai from here on. read more

Bartender made really good Mai Tai's and coconut cream based beverages. The only thing is that they don't love big groups of people. My partner and I came many times by ourselves and it was great. But one night we came in with a group of 12.eeeeek!! . There's usually just one person manning the bar and the food, which is just wings. A fun dive bar right along the waterfront in Kona. We had several of their drinks and they were all delicious, albeit heavy from the coconut and cream. Da Shark Shack also has a small popcorn machine in the corner which is self-serve. We grabbed some seats at the outside counter and had a great time watching the geckos while we enjoyed our drinks and the views of the water. Ironically this lace is great for kids. We left ours at the bottom patio with the lizards as babysitters. Then we headed up to the bar and had some drinks and convo with the locals. I like wings and cocktails and this place had both! Add an ocean view and popcorn that you can help yourself to while there and how can you go wrong? This spot is small so you may have to take whatever seats are available, but it definitely served it's purpose and I enjoyed the wings way more than the ones we had on our cruise ship (which we could see out in the water while dining here). The other option was hot dogs, and well I have no idea how those are because I'd never choose those over wings. We tried 3 flavors and I was pleasantly surprised and happy with our choices. Service was pretty good as well, aside from perhaps the little attitude we got when someone tried to walk in with a can of hard seltzer, but hey thanks for announcing that having that in public was illegal and of course you want everyone to buy alcohol from you rather than walking in with their own, but hey no stars being removed for that. I mean, the sign out front did tell us to come in if we were feeling tipsy, and we listened! ;) Were they the best wings I've ever had? No. But were they good? Would I eat them again? Yes, I absolutely would! They were not breaded so that's always a win in my book! The only flavor of wings we didn't try was the Mama's Garlic & Butter. Honestly, we didn't order them because a customer at the next seat told us they weren't great, but that was actually my last choice anyway so she just helped me know I was making the right decision in choosing the other 3 flavors to order. Great little spot, I enjoyed it. Aside from not knowing I needed to ask for a key to use the restroom out down the walkway behind the restaurant, I had no other issues and that would have been simple enough, had I known and not just thought the door was unlocked and someone was taking a mighty long time in there, LOL. read more
