We came by to watch football on Sunday. In Hawaii games start earlier than we mainlanders are used to, but the bar was open and had all the games going. A locals hang out. Super friendly bartender With a nice selection of beers on tap. The bar is casual and opens with it to a patio. There's a food place nearby where you can order food and bring it in. 2/13/26 My husband and I visited Dolphin Spit Saloon while on vacation in Hawaii before a scheduled dinner cruise. We sat at the bar and waited to be served. The bartender served multiple patrons around us, including guests who arrived after we did. We were never acknowledged. No greeting. No "I'll be right with you." No attempt at service. We made eye contact. We waited patiently. We watched others receive drinks. We were ignored until we finally left. When the only people not being served are visibly different from those who are, it's not unreasonable to question whether bias played a role. The experience was humiliating and deeply disturbing. read more

I saw some people call this a dive bar- we didn't get that vibe. I've been to dive bars in San Francisco (accidentally) and I don't like them. We loved this place. We arrived around 11am- ish, and we were hot and tired and hungry and thirsty. So we settled down to some cider (passion fruit!) and a porter for my daughter and were told we could go next door for eats to the Chinese BBQ- which we did. Lovely way to spend the early afternoon eating and drinking with our new friend Otis (a very cute dog and a VERY good boy.) We ended our adventure buying tee shirts from the bar- because I loved this place. I love that everyone is friendly, the drinks aren't too expensive, and it's just comfortable. It's clean. There is tons to look at on the walls! And sure, you can watch sports if you want to. But you should make sure to hang with Otis, because he is the cutest dog I saw on my whole vacation! read more

I came to this bar with my boyfriend so that we can have a drink, mind you the reason we chose this bar is because they were playing Raggae music which symbolizes peace and love. For context, my boyfriend is Jamaican. So, we sat at the bar, he ordered a drink. Unfortunately, since I left my ID at home I was not allowed to order a drink (understandbly). However, I stayed at the bar sitting with him. A few minutes later he decided that he wanted to smoke a cigarette so we moved to the smoking section of the bar so he could smoke while he enjoyed his drink. After we moved to the smoking section, mind you, at this point which was greater than 15 minutes after we got to the bar, another employee came up to us and stated that I have to leave the bar because I don't have a physical copy of ID and said that my boyfriend can't smoke in the smoking section. My question to him was why wasn't this disclosed to us before my boyfriend ordered his drink? He obviously doesn't want to sit at a bar and drink a drink alone while his girlfriend is sitting outside the bar (Alone). Given this, I asked for compensation since this wasn't disclosed from the beginning which was denied. The whole time he kept saying "I'm just doing my job". That didn't mean anything to me because you can't pick and choose when you want to do your "job". You should have done your job from the beginning and asked me to leave when you knew I didn't have a physical copy of my ID. I say this to say, I felt targeted, uncomfortable, and embarrassed. I will never come back to this establishment. You guys need to change the type of music you are playing because the energy that you are emulating does not represent peace, love, and or unity. read more

After an evening already out, I was invited by some friends to join them at Dolphin Spit Saloon. This is the definitely of dive bar with a great beach vibe. We met and drank with the owner Matt for a while, he was a super fun guy. The saloon is all open air with lanai areas in the mall, but all the tables feel outside with fresh air flowing through. There's plenty of seating and standing room, and this place gets crazy. It's a favorite hang out of tourists and local people. They have a lot of typical beer selections, plus hard liquor. It's kept surprisingly clean, even the restrooms. Prices were a bit better than the touristy beach bars a few blocks away. If you're up late in Kona and want a fun place to drink, this is it! read more

Locals seem to like this open air watering hole. NFL Sunday during playoffs was packed. Good service, casual atmosphere, lots of screens, friendly patrons, and cold beer. It's in a strip mall, so you're not paying for a view. Decent prices and Kona Brewery beers are served cold here. The picnic table was my favorite. The perfect little hidden dive bar for locals. If you're in Kona visiting and you need an escape for pricey resort or tourist traps drinks then this is the place for you. Granted, in Hawaii, it is hard to complain about the price of anything as you are in paradise but once in a while you just want a cheap, cold drink. This place is great. A perfect Saturday or Sunday afternoon stop to watch football on a ton of tv's. Mostly outdoor seating, cold beer and awesome people watching. Plus when you can get two beers for $8 with all the above, we always call that a win. This is a great little place to stop at, roll up to the bar and ask for your drinks, grab a seat and relax. Dive in! No seriously. This is sort of fun quirky dive place that you want to find. Locals abound but we pale mainlanders are just as welcomed. Local brews on tap, an indoor/outdoor seating setup, and a bar staff that already has heard your sh*t but is still happy to see you. What a great spot out of the hustle and bustle of the sea front. I wanted a bar to visit that had more affordable drinks and wasn't filled full of tourist like my self. (lol) Our Uber driver had told us about Dolphin Spit earlier in our vacation and my friend and I stumble upon this place the following day. We win! Devin the barkeeper was fun, welcoming, and knowledgeable. He whisked to the cold beer fridge like a dream boat and poof, cold beers on a hot night. We haggled him a bit about his shirt, sat down at a table on the "patio" (covered) and he checked on us a few times. Several tv's are stationed above the bar to watch your favorite sport. No food or snacks that we knew of. We wanted to gnaw our arm off but we HAD to stop for a drink before dinner, I made my friends. Totally worth the stop. I am sure you can bring your own food but we didn't plan that far in advance. I would suggest calling to make sure it is BYOG, bring your own grub. It is like an outdoor bar but is seemingly indoors. I mean it is what it is. This place is simply a dive bar with island music and random crowds. Their bartender is legit. She's fun and full of energy. She knows the crowd well and has regulars come for every hour. There are no special drinks just a place to sip a beer or take a shot and just socialize. They stay open late which is a plus because most places around the area close early. I say come here for a shot or two and finish the session with a beer. Kick back, relax, and make a friend. It is a great sports bar. They have 6+ beers on tap and a full selection of liquor. Bartender was great an quickly placed the game I wanted on a TV for me.
