Made reservations before we got to positano and when locals asked where we were going to eat that night and we told them Da Vincenzo they all said "oh that's the best spot in town!" They were right. The appetizers, main courses, and desserts were all spectacular, ESPECIALLY THE BERRY CHEESECAKE. I'd highly recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in Positano! We were not in Positano for dinner time, but I'd recommend coming for dinner rather than lunch if you can; simply for the romantic and elegant vibe the restaurant would have in the evening. We made a reservation about a week in advance, as I read that it fills up even for lunch. However, the restaurant was relatively empty when we arrived around 12:45 for our 1 pm reservation. I think the heat really swayed many people from walking up this far into Positano. While only a 5 minute or so walk up the steps from the port, they are very steep stairs and it can be quite tiring. The longer, yet more scenic route, is to casually stroll up the curving roads of this hillside town. Anyway, the FOOD: my husband got the homemade ravioli in pesto sauce and I got the gnocchi sorrentino. Both of our meals were fabulous! Their gnocchi was some of the best I've had, as it was small, airy, and had just the right amount of doughiness to it. We also shared a side order of the grilled zucchini with mint, this was wonderful as well! To drink, I had a lemon spritz and my husband had the caipiroska. Both were delicious and refreshing on this HOTTT afternoon! Lastly, the service and the ambiance. The service was fine. I've noticed that service in Italy is much different than service in America. If you expect to get the same level of attention, you will be disappointed. The staff at Da Vincenzo was more hands off and stopped by intermittently to see if we were ready to order and/or wanted anything else. Even after our waiter cleared our table, we had to wave him down for the check about 10 minutes later. They were friendly though, which we did not always experience. We were a large group and it was hard to get a reservation. The trick is going at 6:30 when they open and they may have same day seating as long as you are out by 8. However, service is good but was a bit slow so it's hard. I was a bit disappointed after all the hype. The food is good but it was not better than other places we visited and it was pricier. The BEST cheesecake I have EVER had! Let's begin with dessert shall we? Upon our recent visit to Da Vincenzo our neighboring table ended up ordering two cheesecakes and recommended we try one as well, so we did. Mind blowing! My cheesecake experience usually goes something like this: dense, rich, makes you feel so heavy after finishing. This is the complete opposite! It's light and fluffy, flavorful without being overwhelming and simply divine. I urge you to order a slice on your trip here. Ok let's back track to the beginning, we arrived on a Friday night around 8:15 pm and it was busy. They took our names down and gave us complimentary glasses of prosecco while we waited. Flash forward 30 minutes and we were seated. They have a wide variety of wines on their wine list and a diverse menu between vegetarian, land and sea. We got the octopus appetizer which was cooked perfectly, flavorful without being too chewy; it was accompanied with some fried peppers which were also really good. For entrees I got the spaghetti with zucchini, basil and Parmesan and I found it delightful. Perfectly cooked with a nice, earthy flavor. My husband didn't prefer the flavor but he loved his dish. He got the gnocchi, which was definitely the best gnocchi we've had so far on our trip. The tomato sauce wasn't too acidic and the gnocchi was perfectly soft and chewy. For dessert, aside from the cheesecake we also got a tiramisu which was very good. It was a little on the cinnamony side, but I love cinnamon so it worked for me. The service was great, except it did seem like they forgot about our entrees for a bit as the tables surrounding us all received their dishes before us and arrived after us. However, this didn't bother us since we had no place to go and enjoyed our bottle of Chianti. I highly recommend coming to dine here on your trip to positano. If possible, try to make a reservation beforehand since it can get crowded but the wait wasn't too bad for us overall. They have outdoor seating which might be nice, but we were seated inside. read more

Our dinner at Da Vincenzo in Positano was extremely disappointing. Never in my life have I been treated so rudely at a restaurant. Our waiter made us feel unwelcome for the entire meal. My husband, sister, and I stopped into Da Vincenzo for an early dinner after spending the day in Capri. We managed to snag the last table that had not been reserved and were so ecstatic! We had read the glowing reviews from Yelp, Trip Advisor and Rick Steves and thought we were in for a wonderful evening. The restaurant is very charming and romantic and has these beautiful brick and stone arches in the dining room. Every corner of the restaurant is filled with bottles of wine, dried peppers and copper pots. We ordered the marinated vegetables and Caprese salad as appetizers. Both were very good as well as the bottle of Chianti that we ordered. For our entrees my sister and I ordered the Paccheri con Astice (Lobster and Paccheri pasta) and my husband ordered the mixed seafood entrée. This is where our meal went sour. Our waiter asked us if we would be sharing the seafood platter and I told him "no", that the seafood entrée was my husband's dinner entrée and that my sister and I were having the lobster and pasta as our dinner entrées. The waiter continued to say he would bring plates for us to share and I told him that none of us were sharing and that we would like to order the three entrees and have all three of them delivered to the table at the same time. When our meal is ready our waiter brings my dish and my sister's dish, but nothing for my husband. After about five minutes we are still waiting for my husband's dinner to arrive and our meals are getting cold. We ask where my husband's dinner is and he explains that it will come out later and he will bring us plates to share the seafood dish. At this point I am frustrated and I ask the waiter why he didn't serve all of us at once since we clearly asked him to bring out our meals at the same time. From this point on the waiter decides to ignore our table and does not return to refill our water glasses or check to see if we'd like to order another bottle of wine. Once my sister and I finished our lobster our waiter brings out my husband's entrée so that we have to awkwardly sit and watch him eat by himself. The waiter offers us plates (again!) to share my husband's dinner and I tell him that I am not going to eat my husband's dinner and that we are full after eating our lobster and pasta. (The entrée was a normal sized entrée so I have no clue why he thought three people would be sharing this dish?!) When my husband finished his meal we asked for the check because we just wanted to end our awkward meal. The waiter looks at our receipt a little funny before handing over the bill to my husband. When my husband reviews the receipt he realized that the waiter charged us €35 for an entrée we never ordered!!! The waiter pretends that it was a mistake, but at this point we don't know what to believe. I'm not sure why we were treated so badly throughout our meal. We didn't order a five course meal, but we also did not order inexpensive dishes from the menu. Usually I say that good food triumphs bad service, but in this situation I am going to say that our meal was a disaster and that I would not return. read more

This was one of my favorite restaurants during my recent trip to Positano! The food, service and ambiance were second to none! The man who runs this place will go out of his way to make you feel welcome. Be sure to make a reservation as this place is popular and fills up fast! The ambiance is lovely with a rustic feel, and I loved that it is carved into the side of the hill so there is plenty of rock showing. And the wood tables, chairs and local pottery make this a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. The food was amazing. We started with some kind of a vegetable starter with ricotta cheese that was simply amazing. And the eggplant Parmesan was also so interesting . . .like pressed eggplant with none of that heavy breading that usually accompanies it. For my pasta course, I had the spaghetti and clams which had to be the best preparation I had on our entire trip. And while hard to believe I was still hungry, my amberjack filet was a huge portion served with capers, tomatoes and olives that gave it a Mediterranean feel. A terrific choice, away from the hustle and bustle of the beach (but only a short walk up the hill). And if you are lucky enough to sit outside, the views are quite good too. The restaurant is located in between the beach (bottom of all the stairs) and the top of the city (where the stairs begin), so you still get a nice view of Amalfi Coast. Being in Positano, thought that it would be good to have something with seafood, so I opted for the Clam Linguine. Loved it. It was cooked perfectly and had the right amount of seasoning. The dish was not short on flavour. For dessert, we tried the Buffalo Cheesecake, which was a really nice alternative to a New York style cheesecake. It was much lighter and creamier and did not taste heavy at all. We all loved it! If you're staying or visiting Positano, you won't go wrong with this restaurant. read more

Very tasty yellowtail tartare with peaches and raspberries - I would give this 5 stars. Pasta dishes were more so-so... Tagliolini with shrimp was solid dish, but not amazing. The braised beef pasta dish which claimed to be "the glory of the neopolitan kitchen" was not so glorious! The beef was pretty overdone and a bit hard, not soft and falling apart like you'd want it to be. Definitely recommend sitting inside to avoid the diesel fumes the other reviewer mentioned. We started off with fried fish as our starter which came with 4 pieces and were very juicy and not overly fried or dry an mussels which were extremely fresh! The sauce on the other hand was a tad bit salty. For our primary we got a bean pasta which was very tasty but the cuttlefish pasta was amazing! Very flavorful and nothing at all what I expected. SO delish! It's up about of the hill with indoor or outdoor seating. They do take reservations and it's a pretty popular spot, so I'd recommend making one. It's your classic family style Italian restaurant meaning that the staff were singing cowbell banging birthday songs (with the owner running around the room to get everyone involved) to the large pizza oven, to the authentic and handmade pottery and textiles draped around the interior that were for sale. Subjective: Made a reservation through email about 4 weeks in advance. We ate here for dinner during our Positano stay (indoor table). Dishes: zucchini with mint and vinegar, octopus with potato puree, spaghetti with colatura di alici, pasta with braised beef and creamed onion sauce. Objective: Family-run restaurant; English-friendly. Appetizers/side dishes were all less than 10 euro per plate, pastas between 15-20, secondi 20-30 euros. There is a"Da Vincenzo" store next door that sells wines, olive oils, vinegars, colatura di alici, ceramics. Assessment: Amazing dinner - highly recommended. The restaurant was very busy so highly recommend contacting them for reservations. The zucchini appetizer was one of the best dishes that we had during our entire trip. Would highly recommend trying a pasta dish with colatura di alici (aged anchovy sauce) as this is highly unique to the Amalfi coast. The atmosphere and service was friendly and warm. read more

Excellent food in an elegant, romantic setting. I was a fan of the fried artichoke in our grilled octopus and fried artichoke appetizer (€16). The spaghetti with basil, zucchini, and parmesan (spaghetti alla nerano in Italian) (€18) was also quite lovely. While the lemon delight was good, it's not as good as the one at Il Tridente. Email or call a few weeks ahead to make a reservation, especially during peak season. When we arrived in Positano around 1 pm we planned to go to Da Costantino for lunch at 2 pm. However our hotel was not ready so we decided to go look for lunch on our street and stumbled across Da Vincenzo. They fit us in. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella. I had the ravioli and he had the mussel linguini. We both got drinks and also the lemon dessert. Everything about this meal was fantastic!!! It was super reasonable ~80 Euro. Would give them 5++ stars staff was super attentive and great. We were so impressed we decided to make a reservation for dinner. This is where they fell short. I love grilled octopus and had to try theirs. We both ordered it and both of ours were rubbery :( not sure if they were having a bad day in the kitchen or what. Next i ordered the cod/potato dish. I know that bones can show up in fish but my piece of fish had 5 huge bones in it when i bit into it :( not impressed. the highlight of our dinner was the cheesecake this was on point! at the end they asked for tips, which sorta threw me for a loop and unimpressed. you don't tip over there. our second meal is my reason for 3 stars. read more

The most unbelievable tiramisu I have ever put to my lips. Ever. Plus the food is delightful - I'm sure you can't go wrong. I enjoyed the rounds. Salad. Pasta course. Filet. Then tiramisu. The pasta with squid and raisins was subtle, earthy and delicious. The tagliatelle was homemade and tasty (though I preferred the raisin and squid pasta). The filet was so luscious and perfectly cooked with that sauce and mashed potatoes. I mean it was food erotica. And then the tiramisu came out and I almost died from ecstasy. And spouse ordered a carafe of house wine and it was 7 Euros!!! The house wine in Italy is always on point. Their palates are divinely inspired.
