Had a wonderful dinner here on our last night in Positano. Although the view isn't as spectacular as some of the restaurants, the food is phenomenal! Service was very accommodating, especially since we didn't have a reservation. They were helpful with recommendations and quick with bringing out food and drinks. We started with the mini calzones, then I had the spaghetti with basil and zucchini and my boyfriend had the pasta with braised beef-- both were AMAZING! It was quite a trek here, and we learned the hard way we took the option with many many stairs, when we could've just walked uphill minus the heavy breathing and sore legs. We didn't have a reservation and the hostess kindly informed us they were saving seats for 8 and 8:15 reservations and so forth, which explained the many empty tables up front. We waited across the street and were set up with glasses of prosseco, which everyone after us also received which was a nice touch. It was less than an hour wait, and our server was very friendly and cute, and I loved how her recommendations were definitely not the most expensive items on the menu (in fact one of the cheapest). We kind of regret not taking it as we decided to venture outside of pasta this time and try the fish. My fried fish was tasty enough, and my sister liked her salmon (tasted very healthy). Their lobster pasta special looked amazing though, and we regret getting the yellowtail appetizer for $20 as the combo with the peaches and berries was indeed quite odd and didn't feel like money well spent. We finally listened to the waiter's recommendation and got the buffalo cheesecake. Holy smokes--this was one of the best things we had in Italy lol. So so fresh, creamy and decadent and very different than what you'll ever have had before. Wanted to come back to order this one more time before we left. This is a solid choice, especially if you want a more upscale ambiance with reasonable prices for the area. Don't repeat our mistake though-- be open to the staff's suggestions if you're unsure. One of my favorite restaurants in Positano! You can walk up one of Positano's winding roads along the coast (about a 10 minute walk) to get to this restaurant. The ambiance is very cute and traditional and the service was spot on. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We took the server's recommendations on everything and were so happy with everything he pointed out. We started out with a delicious homemade pasta, then moved onto their seafood special of the day which was a whole snapper fileted at the table. The simple lemon/olive oil sauce may have been the best sauce of my life. I could have drank it by the cupful. The only good thing about this restaurant is maybe the service and the way they give you champagne while you wait outside. Aside from that, the food was honestly horrible, the meatballs were soft, lacked consistency almost like a soft meatloaf type of texture, if it werent for the fresh tomato sauce drenched over it i could go as far as to say this was disgusting. We ordered the eggplant lasagna which was recommended by the waiter and it was completely bland, texture was off and it was overcooked. Out of 7 restaurants i ate at in positano, all being spectacular, i can truthfully say this was awful all around. Lets start with the first thing you'll notice. You're eating on the road, not a great view and fumes are driving by while eating. I would ask to be seated inside as a tip. The food was all a bit different which is great for the idea that we had been eating the same flavors all trip. I ordered a cuddle fish pasta which had flavor profiles and sauces that I couldn't identify, strange yet delicious. The appetizers we ran into that same thing, different yet very good. Nope. Our Airbnb host even recommended this place and it was very, very expensive for a very, very un-special experience. Firstly, the outside seating (preferred at night when its so so hot inside the restaurant) is right on that narrow, twisting road that runs the Amalfi Coast. The restaurant is right at a bend, so cars are constantly slowing down and streaming past, while you gulp down their diesel fumes along with your €50 bottle of wine. I got a starter which was pretty good, and a pasta main that wasn't. A simple, slow cooked beef with beef gravy pasta dish, it was way too salty and had only a few small squares of meat. The other three at the table were equally unimpressed with their meals. Service was ok - perhaps standard level for Italy but for its high tourism factor and price, I would expect it to be a tad above that. All in all, I wouldn't recommend it to others. read more

Un bel posto! Almost never in life do people or places completely exceed every expectation you have for them. Da Vicenzo in Positano (Salerno), Italy is one of them. First, reservations are a near must. If you walk up, expect to wait or leave. That said, there is nothing not to love about this beautiful little family run establishment. My family enjoyed our first experience here so much that we returned for a second visit during a recent vacation to the Amalfi Coast. The interior is cozy, but simultaneously airy and bright. The service is tremendously attentive but fun and inviting. While I speak Italian, my family does not, and the staff never once made them feel bad for it. Now, the food...What these people do with simple ingredients is nothing short of astounding. It is lick the plate good, from antipasti to postre. The wine list is equally nice, with selections for any budget and a tremendous representation of whites from the local region. Even the tableware makes the meal special with individually hand-painted dishes (which are available for sale next door). Dress is come as you wish. Seating is close but not Paris bistro close, so feel free to have a private conversation or discipline your children. But, above all, do not miss the chance to experience this place. If you are planning on going to Da Vincenzo, I highly recommend you make a reservation! We went on a Tuesday night over the summer and people were pouring out of the restaurant waiting, all over the side of the street. Thankfully, I had made a reservation about a month prior and we sat right down at one of the tables on the side of the road! The food was great - my fiance enjoyed his meal a bit more than I did (he got the linguine with clams and it was AMAZING) and I got the pasta with shrimp in a lemon sauce. For a long time Da Vincenzo was my favorite restaurant in Positano (Not Anymore). It;s still good, but I was slightly disappointed the last couple of times I went. I first went there in 1985, on the say-so of Poet Rene Ricards, who when he found out I was going to Positano, told me where to stay (Villa Maria Antionette), and said I had to go to Da Vincenzo for the Worlds Best Spaghetti Vongole of all, "to die for," Rene promised me. So I went, and yes I did think it was the best Spaghetti Vongole ever, absolutely awesome, "I just Loved it," I loved the decor, and Victor my waiter, who is a family member of the people who own this, one of Positano's most popular restaurant. The ambiance is as good as can be, but??? Now Bucco di Baco has become my favorite ristorante in town, but I still love Da Vincenzo. I always will. read more

This restaurant was across the street from our hotel and had a line nightly! You're given prosecco while you wait, which is a nice touch! We got a table on the inside, which was just as nice. The decor was quaint and cute. My husband and I had some wine, appetizers and entrees. We ordered the mussels for our appetizers and I ate everything! Even soaked up all the soup with my bread, it was delicious! Still thinking about it today, yum! Our meal definitely started off on a high note! We ate here on our last of five nights in town. We wished he had found it sooner. Easily the best "nice" place we ate. We both got pasta dishes- my husband got fettuccini with lobster and I had the tagliatelle with shrimp. The pasta was cooked perfectly and so was the seafood. DESSERT- yes, you must. I ordered the cheesecake at our waitresses recommendation and my husband got the chocolate almond flour cake with the vanilla gelato. While both were great, we ended up ordering a second cheesecake and both tables next to us got one as well! I highly recommend this place. My husband and I came to this restaurant twice during our stay in Positano. Both times were great and had great service. The first time, we had a shrimp and lemon pasta and a pasta with bread crumbs and anchovies. I think the shrimp and lemon was the better of the two, but both were good and fresh. We also order a mixed antipasti and that was fabulous! On the plate was: a fried squash flower with fresh ricotta stuffed inside, an eggplant fritter, and a couple of crostini. We also ordered the house white which was very clean and not dry (which I love!). We sat outside which was nice, but you are on a major street so can be noisy. The second time, we sat inside since it was also earlier in the evening and the outside seating is always reserved. Hubby got the gnocchi and I got home-made pasta in basically a seafood stew. The reviews on yelp and trip advisor and a lot of blogs and journalist articles all rate Da Vincenzo and they're all right - miss at your peril. We called for a same day reservation and were told they didn't have any available but to try just turning up at 9-9:30pm, we tried our luck anyway at 8pm. The owner put our names on a list saying it would be an hours wait but gave us a glass of prosecco to have outside while we waited 15mins later we were shown to a table! We sat inside by to be honest you get an amazing view of Positano basically everywhere you go in Positano and inside it's lovely too. For around €160 we had a bottle of very nice local red wine on recommendation from our waiter, a bottle of water, a starter each, a main each and shared a dessert. Service was perfect. You MUST get the grilled octopus with artichokes and sage - possibly one of the best dishes we've ever eaten (we almost got it again at the end of the meal instead of dessert!), husband's squid with cherry tomatoes was nice enough but couldn't hold a candle to the octopus Husband had the beef ragu with pasta - he said the pasta was cooked perfectly, the reduction full of flavor. I had the locally presented layered fish of the day with vegetables, perfectly sized portion with delicate flavours I'm not normally a tiramisu fan but we shared one, it was pretty nice - Husband is a big fan and said it was amazing. What a wonderful place! Make reservations in advance!! We went early, around 6, and were sat immediately. The host of people that took care of us were very helpful and friendly! The wine that the waiter suggested was incredible! The food was incredible! We are inside because of the heat, but there is outside seating. Just wow. I don't think you can go wrong with anywhere in Positano but just wow! Da Vincenzo is that good. We came here for lunch as dinner was obviously booked out. Regardless of time of day you will have one of the most delicious meals and most impeccable service ever. We had a lot of walking to do and so I wanted something light. Of course I went with gnocchi ...however the portion was just perfect. Each little Dumpling was perfection. The pesto sauce that it came with was divine My girlfriend had sea bass that was cooked the way sea bass was meant to be. Perfectly soft, not one bone, prepped to be eaten blindly. Dessert was heavenly. I had the tiramisu and she had sorbet and honestly I literally felt like I was at the pearly gates. The aperol spritz and Italian mule drinks were incredible. Overall for the price, quality and overall experience this is one of the best culinary experiences. My gf has a gluten allergy and they even made sure that bread and all the food items were prepared perfectly for her health and I couldn't be more thankful! Oh my gosh.... this place was by far the best meal in Italy!!! First off, the restaurant itself was so nice. I loved how it was built into the Cliff and the ambiance in general was great. The staff looked top notch. Our waiter was astounding and even picked out a red wine that I liked (I normally do not like red wine so this was a pretty astonishing feat). We practically licked every plate on our table. We had the pasta with braised beef, the sea food pasta, and the swordfish. For appetizers we had the octopus and the fried mixed sampler. They let us dress it ourselves, but it started the meal well. We ordered a house red to go with out meal. It was simple and easy drinking and at only 13 Euro for 1L, it made a great accompiament to the meal. I chose to have the ravioli in pumpkin sauce and oh, my, it was a fantastic choice. Beautiful view of the water from their outdoor seating. However the seating is very narrow, so cars pass right by you. But this is just the landscape of Positano and many of the Amalfi Coast cities. The Mussels anti pasti was so good, in a thin but very flavorful tomato sauce/soup. This was a great break from all of the pasta and pizza we have been eating in Italy. I also ate the tomato soup, which was a very thick and hearty soup. The dollop of ricotta cheese added a nice flavor to the soup. read more

Appetizer was lacking (calzones), Pasta was actually great (the one with the onion sauce), my second course was good but my husbands was mediocre (lacked flavor which was shocking) and desserts were bad. Here's a little trick: it's super popular so reservations are scarce (they book up 3-5 days in advance) BUT if you put your name in they can probably get you a table for two around 9 (the sun doesn't set until 8:30 in June so it's perfect). The only advice I have about the menu is get whatever sounds good. Everything we got was delicious so you can't go wrong. It's a coastal city so seafood is their specialty. read more
