Came here with an out of town friend's recommendation and it blew us away. Super fresh ingredients - hospitable staff, large menu. Very much NY vibe and impressive crispy crust, more NY style than you would expect but also an 'artisan' taste. Great prices. Would highly recommend

    Mummy, hi! Daddy, yo!

When I see my Daddy, I'm like, Daddy! Yo! There's not a lot of good pizza in Texas. There's not a lot of good pizza in the South and the Midwest in general, to be honest. Unless you're going up to Chicago area. But there is a local gem here and there, and this is one of the real gems of Houston. By New York standards it's hard to say, because when you're in New York, pizza transports you to another world (if you want to be transported). So if you want to be transported to the New York taste when you're in Houston, you only have maybe less than half a dozen options, and this is one of the very best ones. And it's not expensive by New York standards, just possibly a little bit compared to the chains, but the chains are like eating dogsh*t so why would you pay to eat dogsh*t?

We visited this establishment because it was close to our hotel. I'm glad we did. The service was great. We were greeted when walking in and being that it was our first time they were patient with us. We shared a few laughs. It was very clean. Our food was fresh and flavorful. The crust was soooo good our daughter was asking us if she could have the crust. She had her own cheesy bread. Try it for yourself!

I loved the food here the pizza was amazing. We added pepperoni to our pizza and onions. The staff was so kind and made our pizza super crispy. The restaurant was clean and the overall experience was great. I would eat here again.

    Yum

The food is amazing, haven't had a pizza/calzone since I was back in New York! The service is very polite. She answered all my questions! The ambience just made me feel like I was back in New York!

I moved back into my old home in Oak Forest and have tried numerous "mom and pop" pizza places to get my "New York Style" pizza grub on. After numerous attempts and of course avoiding the traditional Pizza Hut, Dominoes and Papa John's, I decided to nominate this place as being the most legit. This was decided after my 3rd pick up order. (Avoiding delivery due to COVID 19). The first time I ordered I chose the basic cheese pizza. Because let's face it. Good pizza starts with the fundamentals. Dough, marinara and the cheese grade. This joint hits all three. For all three orders I was greeted by the lovely Fifi. This lady knows hospitality and follows the COVID 19 guidelines for safety. The place is cool with eclectic art work on the walls. Hand drawn to boot! I ordered the the Fith Avenue pizza which included grilled chicken, fresh spinach, feta cheese, fresh tomatoes and fresh garlic. It was the star of the show. We also tried the Fettuccine Alfredo (and garlic bread) which was good but not great in my opinion. My son however loved it and gobbled it up. It had a nice roasted garlic flavor with mushrooms and was extra saucey which was nice since a lot places get chinchy with the sauce. The recipe seemed to be heavier on butter and EVOO rather than cream. It by far wasn't bad, just wasn't my favorite. I recommend this local place of you are looking for great NY Style pizza.

I was recommended this place by clients!!! Let's see

    - Houston flavor with attitude…read more Gypsy Poet is one of those Houston spots where the pizza shows up acting like it's the headliner, and the drinks roll in like they're trying to renegotiate their contract. They're known for their artisanal, wood‑fired Neapolitan‑style pizzas and whimsical, eclectic atmosphere, and somehow they pull it off without feeling forced or theatrical. The dough has that confident chew -- not floppy, not stiff, just right. The toppings taste intentional, like someone actually sat down and said, "We're not doing mediocre today." Every slice feels like it's trying to impress you, and honestly, it does. Gypsy Poet's drink lineup is way stronger than you expect from a pizza parlor. The lemonade snaps -- bright, sharp, and ready to wake your whole brain up. The sangria is cold, fruity, and dangerously smooth -- the kind of drink that convinces you you're the funniest person in the building. The beer and wine selection stays reliable and unfussy, perfect for when you want flavor without theatrics. The atmosphere leans whimsical and eclectic, but not in a way that tries too hard. It feels like a creative studio that decided pizza was a better use of its time. Art everywhere, people everywhere, energy everywhere. Students, creatives, downtown workers, and that one person who looks like they're writing a screenplay about the place -- all in the mix without stepping on each other's vibe.
