    Curry Puff Pastry

Mamak has been on my list for a while rn, so headed over to try this popular Malaysian spot on a Saturday evening. It was quite crowded so we put down a spot on the waitlist. The wait wasn't too long and we got seated fairly quickly. It is a bit crammed in there and gets noisy ofc since the tables are quite close to each other. We ended up getting their curry puff pastry and Kari fish fillet that comes with rice. Both of the dishes were absolutely delicious! Explosion of flavor, not as spicy as I would have liked but overall great! There were so many other dishes that I wanted to try but their menu is large and love that they label what are in the dishes. We got the food very quickly and overall glad I tried the spot. This complex gets quite busy as it is in the Sweet Hut plaza so be prepared to look for parking and there are some spots tucked away in the back.

It's been a couple of years since we have back here and not sure why we haven't because the food we had tonight was so good. We were craving some Malaysian food and decided to come back to Mamak. We ordered Eggplant salted fish & chicken and Curry beef Brisket. Both were soo delicious!! Beef was tender and curry was flavorful! The eggplant dish was also so good. It was a nice balance flavor with the salted fish. We'll be back again soon'

We got a whole bunch of dishes with my favorite being the fried fish with bell peppers which had a spicy taste. The curry pastry was not the best but the rest of the main dishes were phenomenal! The spice wasn't too bad and the ambiance of the restaurant was nice. Service was pretty gas as they got all our orders in one go.

Nice experience trying Malaysian. We enjoyed the roti canai and sambal okra. Curry laksa was ok, wish the broth had more flavor. The kids liked the hand tossed noodles. Service can be slow at times if they get super busy.

Small restaurant but still works for a large party as they will combine tables for you. With a party of 9, we ordered lots of dishes! I didn't do the ordering, so I can't list the dishes, but everything was tasty. Employees were not particularly smiley, but service was fine overall.

I wish I could give them 10 stars. Every single dish we ordered was phenomenal and great for family styling. Their seasoned rice is a MUST! It's soooo delicious and elevates the flavor of anything you eat it with.

First time dining in after a few take outs. Casual restaurant with some nice staff. Luckily it wasn't too busy on a Sunday before 12pm and by the time we left they were about half full. Ordered: Roti canai - best appetizer!! I love flaky roti dipped into the delicious curry sauce. So good. Highly recommend and 1 order is good for every 2 persons I think. Curry Noodle Soup (laksa) with seafood - not bad but disappointed in the broth, more on the liquid side than thick and rich. The seafood was nice and tender and had a good variety though. Wish there were toppings like fish balls and tofu. Hainan chicken rice - pretty good but first time having the chicken be warm rather than room temp or cold. Garlic rice was fragrant and portion was huge, you can order 1/4 or 1/2 chicken and we accidentally got half lol Kari fish fillet - our fave main dish!! The curry was so flavorful and rich, lots of tender white fish and filled with a good variety of veg. Def would get again. Overall a great restaurant to get Malaysian food! Would definitely return to try other items.

We came here to experience Malaysian cuisine because we have a passion for trying different cultures around the world. We started off with the Roti Canai (worth the hype), Mamak Fried Wonton, & their Curry Wonton Soup! Everything was simply amazing. Very bold packed flavors. For our main dish we ordered the Nasi Lemak with spare ribs as our choice of meat and not onlyyyyyy is the presentation a beauty, everything on this plate was a 10/10! Thai Tea & Chinese Herbal Tea Was Also Amazing! Customer service was outstanding! Our waiter made sure walk me through their menu to help me have a better understanding of why "everything in Malaysia revolves around great food". This place on the overall was such a phenomenal experience. I will definitely be back for the food, service, & ambience! Thank you guys so much! We got all this for around $45!

There is plenty parking space, and service was courteous. I was expecting more Malaysian food, the menu shows about 3/4 are Chinese food, specially Cantonese food. My wife ordered CHOW KWAY TEOW (炒粿條)and I ordered CURRY LAKSA (咖喱麵). both were very good and tasty. For the fried noodle I liked the chewy noodle, but the squid part was little hard to chew; I liked my Laksa soup, which was creamy and right amount of spicy, but the noodle can be better. BTW, Roti Canai was also good with Laksa dip sauce.

Don't be fooled by the small interior because this restaurant comes with big flavors! My friend and I decided on the roti canai, curry puff, mango chicken, and rendang beef. Both the mango chicken and rendang beef had a good balance of protein and vegetables. The mango chicken was out of this world! The curry in the rendang beef was spot on, and the beef was very tender. Prices are fair. These four dishes totaled to around $60. My only complaint is that they were a bit disorganized while the restaurant was busy and did not have any system of keeping track of which parties arrived first. This caused some confusion, and I ended up getting seated much later than what I was told. Other than this, I'd be happy to come back for more of their dishes. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for authentic South East Asian flavors.

Fast usually not during peak times and good Small dining area so you might have to wait during peak times I know they're known for their hainanese chicken lo mein but I kind of felt like it was not as much as I had expected it to be , but maybe that's how it's supposed to be kind of taste like it's been steamed with minimum seasoning. I do however, like their seafood pan fried noodles I always ask for the noodles on the side so they stay crispy.. I've also ordered their raised beef stew one of their chef special and it was very tasty! We'll definitely come back again and again

I had heard a lot of great reviews about Mamak so I was looking forward to coming here. I got there with my friends on a random weekday and it was pretty empty, so we were seated quickly. The restaurant is not too spacious inside, so it can probably feel a little loud and tight if there are a lot of people dining in. I ordered the Beef Chow Ho Fun while my friends ordered the Nasi Lemak and Chef Special Stir Fried Noodles. Our dishes came out fairly quickly. I love beef chow fun because it is a dish that I often order at dim sum restaurants, so I wanted something familiar. I thought that their Beef Chow Ho Fun was just alright. It was nothing spectacular to me and I feel like I have had better beef chow fun at dim sum restaurants. I think there was a lack in flavor. However, I know that my friends really liked their dishes. I would come back and order a different dish next time to really understand the flavors of Malaysian food.

What is there for vegetarians? wle

There are a few noodle dishes along with sambal okra and garlic lettuce entrees.

    Do they offer delivery services?

Not that I know of maybe Grub Hub?

    Do they still serve lunch?

The last time I went there...about 6 months ago... they were open for lunch

Is there outdoor seating available? Are they still takeout only?

No outdoor seating here, but check out their pop-up at the former Chôm Chôm location in Chamblee for dine-in options.

Anyone know if they accommodate gluten free?

Plenty of the rice dishes are gluten free. I am GF and love the Kari vegetables and the sambal okra (with garlic sauce instead of the regular).

I heard they don't sell wine. Can you byob?

It was busy inside, but our party of 10 was promptly seated, though we were a little squished into a circular table. I didn't remember this last time, but instead of telling a server what you want, you mark it down on a paper menu and hand it to the server. This time I got the Grandma's BBQ Pork Noodles and the Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp Garlic Noodle. I was really excited to try both since they both sounded so good. Ultimately the Grandma's BBQ Pork Noodle was a little underwhelming - the noodles themselves weren't very flavorful, and the BBQ pork was on the drier side. The pork did have decent flavor, and all the toppings/side items (wontons, fried egg, bok choy) were great, but all in all fell a little short of my hopes. The Salted Egg Yolk Garlic Noodles had better flavor, but I could've used even more garlic and butter. The shrimp definitely carried the salted egg yolk flavor, but the fried batter was a bit soggy/soft in my opinion. I wished it was crisper. Service was a tad slow, but perhaps they're understaffed and/or it was busy that night. I do love the menu concept of positioning it like a magazine catalog - it makes for a fun experience instead of just words on paper

Everything taste was good, but what really turned us off was the service. It was walk up order, and usually most places like that don't require tip, but I think is the owner, she pointed to our friends to tip, so they tipped, but felt awkward about it. We all sat at the table, and noticed that we were having to grab our food and our friends at the same table didn't, that was no big deal. Because I get it they tipped and paid for the service, but to be fair no one in our group was gonna tip because we assumed it was self-serve. The awkward part came when none of us knew if we could get just water or anything because it was never offered, so our friends asked for water, and the lady only brought enough for her and 2 other friends on their same bill where they tipped, mind you..we all sat at the same table. When we asked if we could get water, we were basically told to go get our own water at the water station. We were all shocked and frankly everyone was left feeling very awkward and uncomfortable. The food was not bad, but not special or good enough for us emotionally ever go back, We are always very generous with our tip, and when our friend told us they tipped, I was going to put cash when we leave, but the lady who "helped" us made the experience so awkward and unpleasant that we didnt feel it was at all worth us tipping, had she brought water to us, we would have given her the tip, but the whole time she would check on our friends asking them how was the food, we were also customers sitting at the same table...soooo no i will never go back. Just be warned if you go, either take it togo, or make sure you tip, otherwise be prepared to be treated as if you were invisible.

Best dishes (the reasons to come) 1) Salt and pepper squid This one was excellent. Super satisfying and well executed. 2) Dried chow fun with beef Also a standout. Great texture and temperature, well seasoned, and the ingredients felt evenly distributed instead of clumped or uneven. This dish was done right. 3) Eggplant in a small pot Served in a small pot that keeps it warm for a long time, which makes a big difference. There's a lot of sauce, but you can reduce how salty it tastes by how you scoop and serve it. Comforting and flavorful. If you ordered just these three, you'd already have a great meal. Other dishes (good, not amazing) Coconut shrimp The shrimp itself was cooked well, and I appreciated the broccoli on the side to balance the heaviness. The issue was the sauce: way too much. It got soggy fast and leaned too sweet and too salty. Next time, I'd ask for the sauce on the side so you can control it. We also tried a vegetable dish and a fish dish. Both were decent, but not particularly memorable. Tea They serve tea if you order it. The chrysanthemum tea was pretty good, and I liked that it was loose leaf. Atmosphere and service We went around 2:30 to 3:00 pm, so it wasn't crowded. The vibe felt very local and family friendly. It's an older building, but clean enough and inviting. Service was great, and it seemed even smoother if you have someone in your group who can speak Cantonese. Would I return? Yes. If I ever return, I'll know to do better than expect the correct order and check everything before heading out. The crab rangoon was still flavorful but whatever dough they wrapped it with this time was so freaking tough that it cut the top of my mouth. My jaw should not get a workout from eating crab rangoon of all things. Another disappointment in the bag. But the beef entree we ordered was good, yet overshadowed by the other letdowns of the night's visit given that I can't really remember what exactly we ate. I'm going to remove another star for the unhygienic practices I witnessed that I was perhaps blissfully ignorant of my last time visiting. It's hard to look past a server comfortably coughing into their hand and proceeding to handle multiple patrons' plates and orders without as much of a squirt of sanitizer. I will say though they are quite dedicated to the customer. As I was sitting in the parking lot waiting 10-15min for my order to finish, someone clearly forgot their food and the same hacking server ran out to give it to them. Oh wait! Turns out that was actually our food being jostled around as he ran through the parking lot searching for the owner. I was watching the time and planned on returning but maybe I wasn't moving fast enough for this guy lol. He did all that just for the order to be wrong.... Damn bro. I prayed he didn't box the food. I guess we didn't come on a good day? I really don't know what happened but the entire experience was off. Based on the night's events, I don't know if I'll return. No pictures this time...
