My friends and I decided to stop by here for dinner and loved this spot! There's plenty of parking since it shares its lot with other businesses and H Mart. We were seated quickly and proceeded to start ordering. We went with black bean noodles, honey walnut shrimp, Kung pao chicken, eggplant in garlic sauce and a veggie Gangou. We got our food within 10min and it was quite good! I loved the Kung pao chicken the most followed by the eggplant in garlic sauce. The Kung pao chicken was super flavorful and came with a lot of chicken. The eggplant dish was also super tasty and flavorful. The honey walnut shrimp was also pretty good and came with steamed broccoli on the side and honey roasted walnuts which were a nice complement. The veggie gangou was also pretty good and quite flavorful with an assortment of veggies and a nice flavorful sauce with a kick of spice. Their menu has changed recently and lunch prices have gone up. They also offer a separate Korean menu, but everything is written only in Korean without explanations, which can make ordering difficult if you're unfamiliar with the dishes. The lunch menu was also a bit confusing. It mentions that meals come with side items, but some things -- like the noodles -- apparently have to be specifically requested, which wasn't clearly explained. The restaurant was already very busy right when they opened on a weekday, so service felt a little rushed. Our server wasn't especially warm, but she was attentive and kept things moving. I love this Korean Chinese fusion restaurant, This place makes the best ja jiang myeon 짜장면it's off the Korean menu. The whole menu is in Korean so you do have to ask the servers to translate for you if you can't read Korean. I am obsessed with these noodles, and I love the fact that you can get them with beef instead of pork. The black bean noodles are a little oily so I like to change it to beef because it makes the black bean noodles less oily. It's a great option if you don't eat pork as well. I wish they had a way to make the Korean menu also have English because the Korean menu slaps for me. 탕수육 tangsuyug the sweet-and-sour pork is so crispy. I love it. I actually asked them to put the sauce on the side so I can dip it in cause I like mine to stay crispy. I ate it so fast. I forgot to take a picture. I'm so sorry! As for the Chinese menu, it is in English. My favorite things to get are the spicy Sichuan wontons, and the braised beef noodle soup! In my opinion, the One songs are not spicy at all so everyone and anyone can try this. The beef noodles are so rich and full of flavor. And they give you such a generous portion as well. J Bistro is Korean and Chinese fusion restaurant, although it leans more Chinese. The interior is nicely decorated and quite clean. There are tables for small and large parties. The service was quick and the servers were attentive. We had a large party so lots of dishes were ordered, but the main dishes that I took note of were the Twice Cooked Pork Belly, String Bean with Ground Pork, Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp, and Scallion Pancake. I love Twice Cooked Pork Belly, having had my first taste at an amazing Szechuan restaurant at my undergraduate institution. I have been looking for a restaurant that sells this dish in Atlanta AND makes it well. The Twice Cooked Pork Belly here was not bad, it was thinly cut pork belly slices, which I liked. I think there could have been more flavor and spice to it, though. The String Bean with Ground Pork was yummy!!! I love getting green/string beans at Chinese restaurants. I also liked the Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp. The sauce was good and the shrimp was pretty large. I was very disappointed in the Scallion Pancake. The waitress asked if I wanted to pan-fry or fry (I assume in oil?) the pancake and I asked for pan-fried. The Scallion Pancake was not crispy at all and it should have been. It was kind of floppy and it did not have enough scallions in it. Overall, I think that this is a nice Chinese restaurant. There are lots of options to pick from (including some Korean foods). Came by on a Sunday evening and it was quite busy for dinner, and barely staffed. Took awhile to get our waiter's attention and food took longer than expected. Water boiled fish: quite good, tender fish, large portion, but could def be spicier with some numbing spice. Beef rolls: tasted fine but wish there was cucumber in it like the photo to add some textural contrast. Spicy wontons: tasted fine, but skin was very thick and not much filling. I have walked past J-Bistro a hundred times now without any interest in trying until my friends started talking about it recently. I finally got a chance to check it out with my girls last month. Everything here is served family-style which is how it ought to be. I love trying a little bit of alot of things! Food: * Hot & Boiled Fish ($24.95): Yum! Update- ordered UberEats from them last night to give second delivery try. Awful. Beef and peppers, snow tips, chicken and green beans, and hot and sour soup. As of this morning, about to toss in garbage. We barely ate it for dinner last night as it was not good. I had really high hopes for this restaurant but it didn't hit expectations like I thought. J-Bistro is a Chinese/ Korean restaurant. The interior was more spacious than I actually thought and it can be suitable for large parties. We ordered the beef wrap, Black bean noodles and twice cooked pork. Honestly, my favorite was actually the pork. The black bean noodles was a huge disappointment. It was definitely more beanie than I thought, but maybe that's the more traditional way of this dish. I like it more on the sweeter side with more onions. The beef wrap was actually cold which I was not expecting. I have had other ones where they were more flaky and hot. Upon being seated, I was surprised to find a 1-page menu that more resembled a Chinese takeout menu rather than a sit-down establishment. I ordered the jjajangmyun, jjambbong, and fried rice. Overall, the flavors were good but nothing too complex. Certainly much better than Chinese fast food, especially given the reasonable prices. I think we just found our new go-to spot for Chinese takeout!! We ordered the Mongolian Beef, Kung-Pow Chicken, and the pan-seared Potstickers. Everything was delicious!!!!! The Mongolian Beef was cooked to perfection, and the abundance of onions and scallions made this dish perfectly balanced. The Kung-Pow Chicken came with plenty of veggies, and the added zucchini was a nice touch. It was swimming in a succulent sauce that had great flavor. The portions are giving- we ordered 2 entrees and one appetizer, and we had enough left over to eat for dinner the next night too. First time trying this place and I still can't believe it took us this long. As soon as you walk in you're hit with such yummy smells and can clearly see into the kitchen in the back where all the woks are being used. There were plenty of seats available from booths, tables and large family style tables. The service was great, everyone was so polite and we never had to ask for refills on our water. My husband and I shared an appetizer and 2 entrees - and honestly, the portions were so big that this could have fed 4 people lol. We definitely want to come back to try the other dishes, probably in a bigger group setting so we can maximize our ordering. A lot of tables around us were getting the black bean noodles and sweet and sour pork so that's at the top of my list. Food/price: - Braised Beef Scallion Rolls (~$9): appetizer, comes as 4 pieces. This to me tasted like the beef version of the peking duck you get with the tortilla style carb and not the bao bun. The flat bread it was wrapped in is flaky, there's plenty of meat and it was very good. - Hot and Boiled Beef (~$20): comes in a HUGE shallow bowl with so much beef, napa cabbage slices, and zucchini. It's not as spicy/numbing as I thought it would be, maybe not enough Sichuan peppercorn? I think I would ask for it extra spicy next time. But even still, I thought the flavors were good and this paired really well with the chong qing chicken bc that was a bit saltier and spicier than this dish. We were there for the first time last night and was really impressed with the how delicious their food is. I had a spicy lamb with chives and peppers dish off the Chinese language menu and my partner had pork fried rice. Portions were generous. Great place for family style meals. We loved their hot tea blend even though they are from bags. And yes, there's a grumpy grape waitress like a previous reviewer mentioned. We got there close to closing and she kept bugging us to order right away, reminded me to come earlier next time, and cleared my dishes before I was fully done. The food is decent but there's one waitress that kind of kills the experience. I thought it was a 1 off experience and gave it a 2nd chance and tried again..... aaaaaand she's still a grumpy grape! In the Doraville H-Mart plaza tucked away by the corner of the karaoke place and by Kura Revolving Sushi is a tiny little bistro (literally) that houses a basic Chinese place. It is a Chinese Korean place but it's a bit more on the Chinese side of things than Korean. The inside is a mid sized interior that is dim enough for a date but has enough lighting to where you can see the food. The service was decent. Attentive. Courteous. Professional. Nothing to really write home about. Now for the food. Seeing that they have jjajjangmyun on the menu... you know I had to do it. It's the litmus test for good quality Chinese Korean fare. The Jjajjangmyun Tangshooyook combination!!! So I order it. And since it's more of a Chinese place than a Korean place, the tangshooyook is a separate entree as opposed to being able to order it as a combo. The jjajjangmyun is pretty average. I did like the bigger chunks of meat than it being a light peppering of ground pork although some of the chunks were stringy and dry. The noodles were al dente and held onto the sauce very nicely. The flavor. Again, it's missing an it factor of the wok hey that should be cooked into the black bean sauce and this was missing it. The deep fried pork came all assembled so no dipping the fried pork chunks in the sauce which is my preferred method of eating this. It was a bit too fried and not a lot of crunch to the pork bits. The sauce erred more on the tangy side than the sweet side which didn't balance out the dish as much as I would like it to have had. All in all, it's an average place that seems to service what expected in the ITP. Average. It was pretty poppin' in there so they must be doing something right but in my experience, for $33.00 between the two dishes, it was average. read more

Their lunch specials were great! The interior had a traditional/modern appeal. Some of the menu items were both traditional with a slight modern flair. The twice cooked pork belly was really good. Since it was the lunch special, it came with one's choice of soup (egg drop or sweet & sour) and a vegetable egg roll. The pork belly was cut in thin slices and super delectable. The oil base definitely added flavors and coated the small bits of bell peppers and lettuce pieces nicely. The homemade noodles of the braised beef brisket took quite a bit to make, but it was sure fresh and came out in a large bowl. The braised beef brisket was super tasty, and there was quite a portion to it. There was also a good amount of noodles and bok choy (?) in the soup. Overall, it was super flavorful and yummy! Parking is plentiful as J-Bistro is in the same complex as Hmart. It is on the left hand side of Hmart if you are facing the market. J-Bistro sounded like an Americanized version of Chinese food. I know it's just a name, but that was my initial thought. To my pleasant surprise, the food was pretty yummy and traditional. Service was absolutely excellent. We had multiple people check in on us. Ambience is also very nice. It's decorated quite nicely. This place is unbeatable for affordable Sichuanese food, and is my (Sichuanese) mother's go-to spot, especially for lunch! The lunch specials are unbeatable: for $10-11, you get a choice of soup (hot & sour or egg drop), spring roll, rice, and a sizable entree. (I'm honestly not sure how they're turning a profit.) We usually opt for the boiled fish/beef, twice-cooked pork, shredded pork w/ long peppers, or the crispy chicken. The food is always good, and we usually have enough to take home, too. I'm working my way through this shopping center and trying all there is to offer, so I stopped in for lunch today to check this one off my list! Place was clean, orderly and not very busy considering it was lunch time. Servers were all polite and attentive to the few tables that were there. I ordered what I thought was a full order of their 5 spicy chicken-but what I was given was the lunch combo portion. Which came with a side of steamed rice and a little egg roll-with dipping sauces of duck sauce and hot mustard. This chicken dish which seems to have a whole list of commonly used names Mala chicken/Spicy Sichuan Chicken/Chongqing Chicken/Dry fried chili Chicken. This is their take on the traditional dish-just added more pepper varieties to the mix. Zero complaints! It was really tasty and packed full of peppery heat and flavor. The crispy thin slices of celery and thin slices of garlic was a nice find and added some additional elements to the dish. Steamed dumplings(pork) were cooked perfectly and appeared to be made in-house. I could be wrong though and were served with a dumpling sauce for dipping. Only knock was with the steamed rice, it was dry and not fragrant. It was just plain ol' bulk rice from the 50-pound bag variety...it wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't great either. This is a review for my first takeout from J-Bistro in August, 2020. This is a 3.5* rounded up for being open during Covid-19. I phoned the resto directly and placed an order to go to be picked up after my H-Mart shopping. They did NOT allow me to prepay over the phone! Had to pay inside :-(. NO outside pickup. - Ambiance is small, dark resto in the busy H-Mart shopping center. Inside was open for dining and their host / cashier area was open...not set apart, not sealed off from their dining room. Staff wore masks but diners did not (obvs). A large table with diners (~8-10 peeps) was next to their cashier / host station... felt unsafe and was uncomfortable waiting for the staff and paying inside with unmasked diners. It was just unnecessary! + Food is (Korean) Chinese... was slightly above average. I ordered jajang myun and sweet and sour soup. They packed everything separately...noodles in a plastic bag, sauce and soup in a plastic containers and condiments (onion, danmuji and chunjang) in small plastic containers. It was well packed but finding noodles in a plastic bag unappetizing. Fortunately, reheated jajang myun in a bowl tasted fine. Pretty average jajang around Atlanta. Their hot and sour soup however was tastalicious! Perhaps one of the best around Atlanta. ++. Price was reasonable. -. Service was okay. But their Covid-19 protocols were less than what I liked. I didn't feel safe. Would have much preferred it, if they had allowed me to prepay when I placed a phone order so I could've minimized my exposure inside the resto. +. Parking is free and shared in a busy lot. Overall, J- Bistro was a good find for their sweet and sour soup! It was super unfortunate for a restaurant to open right at the brink of COVID-19 but it seems that J-Bistro has adjusted accordingly quite successfully. One of the first few Chinese takeout meals I picked up during the beginning of the pandemic was from J-Bistro and it satisfied my cravings after weeks without some good Chinese food. I'm wokless and gas stove-less so I just don't have the resources for those hot fried Chinese dishes. I ordered some sautéed snow pea tips, fried chicken steak over rice, and the Szechuan hot boiled fish. It also came with a hot & sour soup. My only complaint was the snow pea tips didn't seem super fresh - they were fibery and not that silky flavorful veggie I'm used to ordering. But forgivable due to COVID circumstances. I don't know why I don't come here more often - aside from being on the pricier end of the authentic Chinese takeout spectrum, their food is delicious! I think J-Bistro is currently one of the best all-around Chinese restaurants in metro Atlanta. All of my friends and family love or really like the food here and the service is great too. Our family's favorite server, Khit, came over from another Chinese restaurant we've been regulars at, Bo Bo Garden on Buford Highway. My parents, who are in their 70s now, are fans of this place. So, J-Bistro has the old Asian people seal of approval. I kid, but this restaurant is popular with the older Asian population and that's saying something. In general, J-Bistro works well for families, groups, and people of all ages. The menu is expansive and there's something for everyone. I recommend J-Bistro for a reliable, no-nonsense, Chinese meal. Primarily, Cantonese, Sichuan, and Korean-Chinese food. J-Bistro is located in Doraville's busy Peachtree Pavilion (H Mart shopping center) in between Kura Revolving Sushi Bar and Ten Seconds Yunnan Rice Noodle. I believe the restaurant opened in March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns occurred. J-Bistro has a sizable space. I think it's one of the bigger restaurants at Peachtree Pavilion. They have plenty of tables for parties of all sizes. While the food is more traditional, the interior design is more modern industrial with a display kitchen, exposed ceiling, and concrete floor. I've read J-Bistro is connected to - owned and/or run by - the same folks who were behind China Inn on Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Chamblee (https://www.yelp.com/biz/china-inn-chamblee) and Liu Fu on Medlock Bridge Rd in Johns Creek (https://www.yelp.com/biz/liu-fu-duluth). Liu Fu was the Chinese name for the old China Inn. It doesn't surprise me because all three restaurants have been very good and their menus cover(ed) various types of Chinese cuisine. These businesses date back to 1980, so there's a lot of local success and experience here. They've also been popular among the Chinese and Taiwanese communities in Atlanta. From my recollection, J-Bistro's menu is somewhat different from the menus of the China Inn and Liu Fu days. In the Doraville, Chamblee, and Buford Highway area, for our family, when it comes to Chinese comfort food that's not dim sum, J-Bistro is now at/near the top of our list. Also up there are the aforementioned Bo Bo Garden (I still like Bo Bo, but it's trended downward for my parents and wife in recent years) and Oriental Pearl (probably No. 2 now). Previously up there - Royal China (since moved to Duluth), and, going back over 10 years, China Delight. Outside of Duluth, Johns Creek, and Alpharetta, Canton Cook II in Sandy Springs was also at/near the top of our list. However, Canton Cook II closed back in March (2022) and later reopened in Marietta as "Canton Cook Seafood Chinese Restaurant." It now takes longer to get to Canton Cook from our home in Midtown, which solidifies J-Bistro's position on our list (Side note: As I wrote in my review for Canton Cook II, we preferred II over the original Canton Cooks down the street.) J-Bistro has a few different menus: the Chinese menu with Cantonese, Sichuan, and other types of "authentic" Chinese cuisine, the American-Chinese menu, and the Korean-Chinese menu. The latter, written in Korean only, contains over 60 Korean-Chinese dishes. If you can't read Korean like me, just ask your server what they recommend. I recommend K9 or K10 Sweet and Spicy Garlic Fried Chicken (Kkanpunggi, $16.95), K15 Sweet and Sour Pork (Tangsuyuk, $16.25), and Jjajangmyeon Noodles (with chunjang sauce, different variations beginning at $8.00; K46 and below). They also serve Jjamppong (spicy seafood soup). In this sense, nearby, J-Bistro reminds me of the old Yen Jing Chinese Restaurant on Buford Highway (one of the oldest Chinese restaurants on BuHi, closed June 2022) because Yen Jing also served Korean-Chinese cuisine. Items I recommend from the Chinese menu include the Spicy Sliced Beef Tendon and Tripe ($11.95), Braised Beef Scallion Rolls ($7.95), Scallion Pancakes ($5.25), Smoke Duck ($18.95), Crispy Intestine ($17.95; pork; trust me on this one - it's terrific), Hot Boiled Fish ($21.95; Sichuan, spicy), and Stir Fried Pea Tips ($15.95; a.k.a. snow pea leaves). A good soup to get for the table is the Xihu Beef Soup ($11 small, $15 large). It's one of my dad's favorites, better known to us and others as West Lake Beef Soup. They also have "Stewed Chicken with Ginger and Wine in Casserole" ($15.95) which is the same thing as Taiwanese Three Cup Chicken. I want to try one of J-Bistro's Dry Pots ($18.50-$22.95), a stir-fried spicy Sichuan dish that's typically packed with lots of ingredients and flavor. TL;DR - J-Bistro is a great Chinese restaurant, ideal for parties of all sizes and ages. I don't think you can't go wrong with anything on the Chinese and Chinese-Korean menus. In general, the food here is fresh, well-executed, flavorful, delicious, and satisfying. Service is good. The staff is speedy and efficient. Closed Wednesdays. read more

Round 2 at J-Bistro! I ordered the scallion pancake and stir fry noodles with beef. To start, the scallion pancake was delicious! The portion size was good the the dipping sauce was like a sweet and sour soy sauce in my opinion. The stir fry noodles were definitely a miss unfortunately. Portion size is good but the dish lacked any flavor. I felt like it was SUPER oily and I needed to add soy sauce to add any hint of flavor! Overall, I would definitely come here again but would stay away from the stir fry noodles. For $13.95, I expected a more flavorful dish! read more

This review is for takeout only. We ordered at 8:40 on a Saturday night. It was ready in less than 25 minutes. Here's what we got: - Spring Rolls ($2.85): your average spring rolls; the spicy mustard sauce they comes with tastes like horseradish and will really clear your sinuses - Egg Drop Soup ($1.95): great portion for the price; liked that it had corn and tofu in it - Hot & Sour Soup ($1.95): great portion for the price; very good - Pepper Steak ($14.95): average; we've had better black pepper steak at another restaurant in the area - J. Bistro Chicken ($12.95): we expected more flavor, especially for being the restaurant's namesake The portions are good and the prices are more than fair.
