    Breakfast Quesadillas
    Desiree I.

This is their breakfast quesadilla special and it was really delicious! It was a steal for the price and I will definitely be back again!

Half biker bar and half dive bar, D'ag's looks like an old log cabin sitting out on Rt. 611 in Ottsville, PA. The shroud of smoke that greets you opening the door alerts to the smack in the face that this roadhouse offers. All of this isn't necessarily bad if the social atmosphere is pleasant, the drinks are cheap and the bar food excels. Well, "two out of three ain't bad," as Meatloaf used to sing. Here, the clientele seems in a fun mood, and the pours are stiff and piles up lots of paper change for your bigger bills. Only the cuisine leaves alot to be desired. And, by alot, I mean it was pretty awful. The Shrimp Basket was made up of a large bed of low grade fries with a dozen or so, too thickly breaded deep fried small frozen crustaceans that were hard to break with molars and often lacked any taste nor texture of the underlying seafood. Their burger was a diminutive patty whose meat seemed mixed with bread filler, in the jaws of a weak bargain shelf sesame bun. The gracious bartender who doubled as our server (and may have been the short order cook, too) apologized for the takeout ketchup packets she piled on our table in the front parking lot under the plastic canopy (a concession to Covid-19). She was the real star of the show. Made me wonder what she could do with a better situation.

    Beauty we saw outside.

I don't usually go out in Levittown and was already annoyed when we walked into Sparkys. Well, what a pleasant surprise! The fever dream of a 1990's dive bar come to life. It was all these christmas lights hanging up in the midst of giant inflatables and a live DJ on a Friday night. The ladies at the bar were friendly enough and we took our drinks by the pool table to wait our turn to play. Fair warning, playing pool here is not for beginners and the game is taken way more seriously than I anticipated. Thankfully the crowd was super friendly and we were chatting with most of the people playing pool as we enjoyed our drinks. They even played Elvis Crespo's Sauvemente at one point so we felt very welcomed! The only star I'm taking off is for the indoor smoking. As someone who went out during the smoking era all through the 2000's, I never realized how horrid that was. Even worse how bad it was when you got home and had to bathe and wash your coat and everything you owned. Otherwise, I very much recommend Sparky's for a night out, and hope to see them agan in the future.

The bartender at the time was particularly very friendly and I could tell he gave off the same vibe to everyone. As I left this bar with a friend, one of the (assumedly) local patrons was telling us we should've purposely nudged a guy seated so that we could more easily leave the bar instead of slowly crossing over. That particular patron looked back at the first guy very annoyed. The first guy was probably already at least semi-drunk and just kept trying to go on with his "joke". Another thing that surprises me is that this bar is closed all day Sunday and that they open at 8 AM according to the Yelp page and stay open until 2 AM. Those are mad hours This coming Sunday, there was a big game with Eagles versus the 49ers. I've never heard of a bar open so early in the morning and not open on Sundays. Not open on Sunday because a lot of regular church-goers in the area, or the staff need a break and maybe they would want to go to church? Reminds me of Chik-Fil-A without the super late hours and instead of family friendly style food and drink and chicken icon, booze instead. There were no smokers when me and my friend were there. I was thankful for that. It looks like PA started to ban smoking in all bars in 2021. Personally, don't miss it! I already have a hard enough time breathing and sleeping without being around that stuff! No food at this establishment. Quality drinks on tap and reasonable prices. Nice staff. From a neighborhood bar, can you ask for anything more?

After having our GPS take us a ways around we got to Union Publik House and there were regulars in there already. There's a few tables and we were greeted warmly and since we were a group of five, took the larger table in the back by the kitchen. Our server was also friendly and helpful. He recommended the burgers but said just about everything we would order would be good and he was right. My wings were big and tasty, the burger we ordered was cooked as requested, the Ceasar salad was good but the chicken add-on was a bit overdone and dry, the other salad with add-on salmon was a nice big piece of fish that was quickly eaten, and the BBQ sandwich my kid had was gone in what seemed like seconds. We started with some mozzarella sticks which were fine, the pirogies were better than fine, and the homemade chips with salsa were also quickly eaten. Drinks were canned sodas at $3 each and I also had an unsweetened ice tea for the same price. I think you'll also like UPH for your lunch or dinner. We'd come back. $125 total including tax and tip for five people.

During a few recent sojourns to the San Souci I stopped by Beer Bellies and enjoyed myself immensely. Apart from a general air of unpretentiousness, rejecting the regality of more upscale martini or piano bars, any quality dive bar must also offer cheap drinks and good food: Beer Bellies met all these requirements. During both of my visits to Beer Bellies I was treated to the comedic stylings of James "The Wingman" Holeva. Billed as "the bad boy of comedy," Holeva's politically incorrect routine is reminiscent of Lenny Bruce or vintage Andrew Dice Clay. Beer Bellies earns high marks for their entertainment. After the comedian's set was over a DJ began playing dance hits and continued spinning until last call.

On Route 611 in Ottsville, PA, this suds house has been pulling draft beer handles for a long time, with variety enough to keep most beer aficionados quite content. And, if those kegs aren't sufficient, the long wall of available takeout brews is yet another plentiful option. You really can't go wrong. Walking in people were standing all around the barroom, while NASCAR blared from the two high up HDTVs. I took the stool near the end of the long bar, and was immediately greeted by the owner, who worked the entire room with assistance from a long white haired dude who seemed to know everything about the joint (He might be an owner, too). He recommended their roast pork sandwich, as he tapped the white board where it was described. I was more in the mood for a burger, and had heard that their onion soup was worth the price of admission. He grinned and said the Bistro Burger was his creation and I would love it, too. Okay then. Let's do a cup of the Onion Soup and a medium grilled Bistro Burger (aioli mayo, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato and cheese). Apple Crisp Cider for the washdown. The house hummed as I waited for the grub. People clearly knew each other, and treated the tavern as their clubhouse. It was fun just to watch and listen. Good people all around. And, the soup and burger were on the high end of bar cuisine. The Onion Soup was covered with melted Gruyère; underneath was a still hot and steaming savory beef broth with soft onions and chunks of dark bread. Had to let each spoonful cool a minute before putting mouthward. Very good! The Bistro Baby was a half pounder on a large bun, loaded up with all the fixings mentioned above, with the right amount of heat from the 'penos, and at the exact medium pink finish. Had to press it all down to fit in mi boca. Sure glad they handed me a bunch of napkins, because it was a bit messy consumption. Excellent burger! Need 3 napkins to get through. The thirty minute drive from Central to Northern Bucks to reach Tohickon Tavern was well worth the time and energy.
