I was in the Morristown area last night And wanted to go out for a beer and relax somewhere. I am in my 50's so didn't want to go to a 'kids' bar. This place had an older crowd, friendly and fast to serve bartenders, and they had a great 80's cover band that made my night. What also is cool, when I left at 1:00am you pull a left when you go out the door, and there is a pizza parlor still open less than a block away for a quick slice (was a big slice and good too) as a nite cap before the ride home. If i could give this place 0 stars I would. The service was not only horrendous but, the management was awful. Michelle was a very not nice lady and continued to harass and belittle one of my friends. The saddest thing is it was my first time there and I had such an unpleasant experience. One of the last good "working man's" bars. However it is a really good mix or people from every culture and economic strata. Quite a bit of live music by local bands. Reasonably priced. No food served but local take-outs will deliver or you can carry it in and eat. read more

Five taps, one pool table, one dart board, one goofy fireplace, no food, no credit cards, classic 70s rock playing medium loud .. it's a quality dive bar, and no children LOL I mean no college kids drinking here. Looks like it hasn't changed for 20+ years. Drafts at Tavern Off the Green included Guinness, Long Trail IPA, Leinenkugel and Miller lite. $5.50 for a proper Imperial pint of the black stuff was pretty fair. No happy hour but live bands a few days each month. The no-food part is tough, there are some bags of chips for sale but no free bar nuts haha. But the mgt. here is happy for people to bring in food, they'll even gladly give you menus from places that deliver! If you remember when this place was named Phineas Fogg or (even farther back) Rounders, then you've lived in Motown a *lot* longer than I have :) read more

I'm an idiot. How have I lived within 1/4 of a mile of this bar and never really come here? Tavern off the Green is a true dive bar with cheap beer, TWO Magic Touch machines (non-erotic Photo Hunt ugh), a pool table, juke box, and a few tvs. Located in what used to be the first floor of a house (including a fireplace) it has a lot of the standard feel of a dive bar which I love located in Manhattan or Willamsburg (Brooklyn), but it's 1/4 of a mile from me - makes no sense why I never come here. This is the polar opposite of the pretentious douchebaggery seen at Sona - nobody is coming here to be seen, they're coming here to hang out. If you're looking for somewhere where Ed Hardy is not a joke and you want to hang out with some friends, this is your spot. I just feel crappy that it took me so long to start coming here. Don't make the same mistake as me and stop on by. They also do packaged goods I've heard for late night beer runs. read more

This is the kind of place that you don't really want to go into unless you're a local and know the folks hangin around there. The bartender was a very friendly gentleman and the drinks were reasonably priced but I was heckled a little bit by one of the patrons for watching the olympics. Whatever, he's probably just a douche and I shouldn't judge a place by one asshole. But I just didn't get the warm fuzzies from anyone else hanging around there. This has been our new go to place on a Friday or Saturday night. Yes I know that means I'm getting older! The crowd is 30s+ and it's a very friendly local crew that comes here's. It's the place to come if you want to hear the person next to you, be able to take a few steps without running into someone, play a casual game a pool, and easily get a drink at the bar. Only place in Morristown with a decent pool table and the area required play it. Plus, people not knocking into you as you play (E.g. Famished Frog). As for environment, tends to be an older crowd 30+, and a locals sort of hangout. With that said, this place is the stuff. Love going here with a group and enjoying music, good drinks (strong), and conversation. Unlike many other establishments in Morristown you can enjoy a conversation here without screaming. Classic Times at the TOG. Ever since I moved to Morristown this has been my go to spot to avoid the drunk college kids and actually have a conversation with like-minded people looking for a good time. The experience is always positive and you will def meet a friend... and sure they would even light up a candle and toss you a bday hat if its your bday. It will go from your bar to your "local" where you can be served with an actual Irish accent and crsip beer or stiff drink. read more

Absolutely love it here!!!! Our first visit was after a Met's game and a trip to Pete's for dinner. We walked in and a woman got us our beers and said "I won't touch her drawer, she'll be back soon." Figuring she was another bar tender or another employee. Nope, she was a regular who they allow to serve people while the actual staff is out back smoking. Our second visit, we were the only people under 50. Nice to see real serious drinkers are here, not the light beer and Cosmo crowd. It's more of a Bud and Blackhaus kind of bar. Tavern off the Green is a bar-not a bar trying to be a club or a trendy bar full of pretentious kids with more money than they know what to do with. It's the kind of place you can talk to the person you're with, not scream over hip hop music. No one is dancing and no one is doing shots of something pink that tastes like fruit punch. It's a good bar to go to if you're feeling particularly down on yourself. Most likely, you'll be the youngest most attractive person in there. I'm so happy I live in walking distance of this place. A true drinking man's dive bar amidst the college noise in Morristown. You're not going to find any obnoxious jokers, dumb broads, overpriced beers, or bad music in this joint. What you will find is good bartenders; working-class, community bar patrons who know the barkeeps personally, a cigarette machine, pool table, jukebox, and live music on weekends. It's a mixed bag for certain--you'll find all walks of life and a cast of characters inside of this place depending on the day and time... that's what makes it awesome. Hands down, the best time in Morristown. Skip the lines and the cover of other bars in the area. Tavern Off the Green, lovingly nicknamed TOG, is a staple of the area. Offering great live music every weekend, chances are you'll find yourself staying out way later than you anticipated, singing and dancing with friends and strangers alike because the good vibes this place gives off are contagious. The patrons are warm and welcoming and the staff knows how to make a nice stiff drink. Everyone who goes here, gets it, there's no place like home, or in this case, Morristown's favorite dive bar. You immediately feel like a regular, almost as if you've been coming for years even if it's only your first or second time. The sisters who own TOG are friendly faces and regularly on premise. You can tell they love their customers as much as a fat kid loves cake or an Irishman loves his Guinness. So seriously, if you're in the area and looking for a good time, check it out. Great dive bar. Sometimes you just want a shot and a Bud (or in my case, Bud Lite) and you don't want to pay $15 for both. Nor do you want to dress up or deal with bouncers. This is a great place to relax at. Beer to go is a great bonus point. The crowd is generally very friendly (where as 20 years ago it may not have been as friendly as it is now). Better than Danny's Pub in terms of dives with better parking and much more friendly staff. Meets a need that is lacking in Morristown. I'm still mourning the loss of Hennesseys. read more

OMG are you kidding? This dump is still open?!?! I remember getting rolled outside this place in 1992 and my wallet getting thrown on top of the joint. Wow, was a dump. I remember the owner lady, a bushy haired blonde, would always mess with some of the customers, somewhere between flirting and you wouldn't dare make a pass...... I remember the drinks were not overpriced, the bartenders sleazy, and the food not worth ordering. I t was the skeevy, sketchy vibe that attracted, repelled one.Plus, it was across from the train station. Wow, amazing, this dump is still open.. I will be in town to visit a friend in Brooklyn, in one month.And, for the idiot that didn"t like my review, rolled, means mugged.Have you read the other reviews?!? Great local spot, a no nonsense type place. Absolutely no fluff and I wouldn't have it any other way. Me and two work friends ended up here on a week night while on a work trip, and we were treated great by the bartender and patrons. There were no issues with us not being from the area, and the dress code was come as you are. Long bar along the left side with a few TV's, and a great touchscreen juke box. Also a pool table in the back. If you're not coming to drink and listen to music, I wouldn't bother. The one downside is that when you order mixed cockails, they are served in pint beer glasses, like when you are at the airport and you up your drink to a double for a dollar more, although, I could not be sure these were doubles...they didn't feel like it. There are plenty of bars in this area, and we specifically picked this one so we wouldn't be surrounded by a yuppie-fest without feeling like outcasts. It did not disappoint. Enough loud ass classic rock to eliminate any awkwardness that might spring up if there is a lull in conversation or some soberness is trying to shine through. Tavern off the Green is my favorite stop in Morristown! You walk in and you instantly get a welcoming feeling from the bartenders and the staff. This place reminds me of Cheers, everyone knows each other, and it feels like a family gathering. The two ladies in charge know everyone's name and drink and are the kindest owners I have had the pleasure of meeting! They are super friendly and are cool with you bringing in food from another spot. They also know how to make a delicious cocktail. This is the type of place you can wear a sweatshirt and uggs too, or dress up and wear heels. You instantly feel completely comfortable here. There is always a fun vibe with something always going on whether it is a DJ, Band or some sort of celebration. If there isn't a band or DJ there is still great music always playing. This is a great place for happy hour, a night out, or for a bloody Mary the next morning :) I haven't had one bad memory in this place. Wish I lived closer so I could visit more. read more

I came here for the first time on a Saturday night, this is a low key bar with a mixed crowd of locals (aged early 20s to late 30s). Like any good dive bar, the drinks are reasonably priced and its too crowded; plenty of room including space for a live band. Very different atmosphere from the rest of the bars near the Green. read more

Best spot around. Great bartenders, lots of different entertainment from happy hour acoustic, Dj's, full bands, open mic nights, even to Sunday Bingo in the summer. The owners are always there and friendly, the jukebox is constantly updated, and the town regulars aren't those teenage power drinkers the other bars let in. They don't do food, but don't mind if you bring in some of your own. Great place with a great staff, even the bouncers seem to be nice. read more
