From the moment we walked in on a Sunday afternoon, the staff set the right tone with a genuinely warm welcome. The restaurant uses a QR code ordering system, but when we asked a staff member for help placing our order, he was happy to assist. We started with the fried squid appetizer, which came out beautifully golden and crispy. The batter had a wonderful crunch without being greasy. The star of the meal was the big bone rice noodle bowl- a generous, satisfying bowl came with nine small dishes of assorted accompaniments. I requested a less salty broth, and the kitchen honored that without hesitation, which I genuinely appreciated. The noodles had a pleasing texture, the broth was rich and flavorful, and the accompaniments were delicious. 2 pieces of big bones with some meat around them. We were offered a straw to suck the bone marrow out of the tubes. We also ordered the shrimp fried rice, which was equally yummy - a well-executed classic. Service throughout was attentive and warm, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday lunch.

Brilliant addition!! I'm finally able to get "crossing the bridge" noodle soups with all the cute little side dishes, like when I'm in Yunnan. My mom and I went and tried two noodle soups and an app of the popcorn chicken. All were fabulous! For my first time, I thought I should try their specialty, A1 on the menu. My mom got the A11. Both were delicious. Such deeply flavorful savory, spicy, sour broths. With all the little add ins, including the quail egg just like in China. Hot bowls are presented in these plastic red containers, so low risk of burning yourself on the side of a hot soup bowl. Learned that ALL their hot noodle soups come with all the little side dishes so next time, I'll just pick the soup flavor that sounds the best! Popcorn chicken was good too! Crispy on the outside and well seasoned. Portion is generous. Great value for the price. Come hungry! Genius takeout bowls though, that come with two compartments for the soup and separating noodles/other toppings so they don't just fully disintegrate. Interior is clean, cheerful, with plenty of seating. Very nice servers who speak both Chinese and English! I'm very excited about this spot and will definitely be coming back again and again.

Food is excellent and authentic. Went there at lunch and a couple of weeks later returned for Valentine's Day with family. Everyone enjoyed the food.

Oh hell yeah, I came here last Friday by high recommendation from my friend who is a local here and…read moreshe told me this was the original location and just better. Their online menu does not have the pictures that the in store one has and woowee it is a lot of choices of noodles! Amongst the 4 of us, we ordered the pork tip noodle, the Peking pork (zhajiangmian), hot oil wide noodle, beef tendon knife noodle. YUM! The noodles are handmade, handpulled and you can customize the shape and thickness you want! The portions as you can see are massive and the prices are very reasonable! $14/$15 a bowl! My pork rib tips were too tough but still seasoned. I would say their Peking style zhajiangmian is pleasantly less authentic and I liked this version better than the original! It included a braised full egg, and not too much of the cloyingly sweet and intense sauce. We ordered and within 2 minutes we were served fresh bowls of piping hot noods. Our server was efficient, warm, knowledgeable and bilingual. She said I looked like a popular Hong Kong singer, like OMG what a cute compliment! There was convenient parking and it was really close to my friend's house. Highly recommend!

There are a few things that one should note right off the bat:…read more 1) Ypbor Yan moved buildings a couple of years ago, so old reviews that discus the interior space are very much outdated. 2) Their new sign reads Ypbor FM as they have a *F*ood *M*useum in the entry way, but the "museum" is both easy to overlook and certainly not the main draw of the business. 3) Look at the most popular dishes on Yelp and take many of the reviews with a few grains of salt. Why? This is a Sichuan restaurant, and while they may offer sweet and sour chicken, almond boneless chicken, and whatever other American-Chinese dishes you fancy, those in the know come for the distinctive numbing ma-la spice of the region. Southeast Michigan, being in the midwest, is generally lacking in really traditionally fiery foods. As such, Ypbor was such a delightful change of pace I was tempted to give the place five stars. However, that desire was really about the cuisine and not the execution. The food is good to be sure, I'm going to return again and again, but there are definitely elements that are lacking. While I do not want to linger on the negative, the noodles could be improved, the dan-dan was super wet and more like a soup, and while the salt miner's chicken was fine and I'm glad I tried it once, it's decidedly not a must order dish. That said, the Sichuan poached fish is great. I was also absolutely charmed by the Spicy Chinese Broccoli in a Wok, which while under the vegetable section contains a generous amount of sliced pork belly. Part of the charm was that this was not the "Chinese Broccoli" I was expecting. The broccoli itself was more like traditional broccoli, but white in color. Flavors, textures, and heat were all fantastic. The menu is long, and I'm looking forward to exploring more of it. Perhaps there is a way to make a 5* meal from the options, and nothing would make me happier than to share that with you all at some point down the road. Until then, I recommend checking out the newer, cleaner, friendlier Ypbor, and getting outside of your comfort zone with trying legit Sichuan foods. Just remember, everything is intended for family style eating, so one entree for every two people is plenty. Leftovers are fine, but this food is always better when it's freshly prepared, as opposed to traditional "Chinese Takeout" which some might argue was never really all that great in the first place.

We had to each order our own bowl of rice, but they brought out just one bowl for the whole table. One person with me had to ask for her spring roll multiple times. Service not great. Food arrives fairly quickly so you won't stay too hungry. The wait to get seated is longer though, especially when it gets busy. There's a lot of seating and it's perfect for group settings. It's interesting they don't disclose that you get charged for the sauce bar (it's like $1.50/per a person). Good thing I got lots of sauces and they did have fresh sliced oranges! The shao lum bao (soup dumplings) had thick skin and flavor was ok so it didn't taste authentic to me and I was disappointed. The soup bases were ok tasting and got oily after cooking meat (we tried the creamy chicken soup base, the pumpkin soup base, and the spicy mild soup base). You order the soup bases and then select each of the items that are charged separately (like meat, vegetables, and dumplings or noodles). That is why it gets to be pricey! Overall, everything tasted ok. Even the sauces were not as tasty (but prob my fault for not mixing them well). It was good to try once but would not return. Unless their prices dropped hahaha
