I ordered delivery from Dagwood's with a friend. She got some sort of wrap with the special sauce and raved about it, but I felt genuinely jipped. I got the Hoosier Hoagie, which was terrible! They forgot the lettuce I had requested, there was very little meat and way too much bread in proportion to the sandwich. Even the delivery service kind of sucked, it took a long time, and for some reason there were two of them that delivered it to us. For only two sandwiches, why should I tip them twice as much? I was in town for a softball tournament with my daughter and we needed a good lunch so Yelp steered us here. It was a weekday so the parking was TERRIBLE but once we took care of that the food made up for it. Our sandwiches were great and the potato salad was to-die-for! No kidding, that might be the best potato salad I have ever had. It was so smooth and creamy I think they might use mayo and whipped cream in there. My Reuben was also very good. Great location, right across from campus. Sandwiches are overpriced --- and that's not a new thing, they've always been overpriced. Part of that is that the sandwiches are so large in most cases. Even the half-sandwiches are large. That's either a good or a bad thing depending on how much you want to eat. I tend to not want a huge sandwich for lunch, and that's a bit of a problem because this isn't exactly a place you'd be likely to frequent for dinner if you weren't a college student. They are tasty, though. The reuben is very good, as is the Carnegie Classic. The interior of the place is like any other modern sandwich shop. You order at the counter and they bring your food out about 5-7 minutes later. Not a lot of interior frills --- just places to sit and eat sandwiches. read more

This was my favorite sandwich when I went to school and lived in B-town back in the late 80's early 90's. My favorite was the dagwood supreme and love the sauce. I was in town for business 25 years later and was pleased to see they were still open even though in a different store front. If I remember it used to be a few doors down and it was downstairs back in the day - pardon me for waxing nostalgic. Anyway, it tasted the same full of flavor and great bread! I just bought a sandwich from this place forty minutes ago and now I'm feeling slightly ill. I went on the recommendation of a colleague who said it was a "must try," and so I got their "supreme" sandwich. After paying just under $10, I was given a giant soda, a tiny cookie, and a sub-sandwich on wheat. The bread was sort of gummy, and the sauce tasted like a mild ranch or mayo. It was difficult to eat, and I got dry mouth trying to handle just half of the sub. Unfortunately, not the best sub-experience I've had. I'm going to subway next time. A friend and I order this constantly on Tuesday/Thursday's because its right by the buildings we're running from and to, they move fast (and we only have 30 minutes), and you can get two half subs, two cookies, two drinks, and two pickles for like...$12 or something. That's a pretty good deal. It's online only, though, but that's why I carry my laptop. #1 It's not too bready. I mean, sure, I love bread (give me a chunk of Jimmy John's bread any day), but when I'm eating a sandwich I like to taste me some innards. I can't do that sometimes. #2 I hate pickles. I really do. But there is SOMETHING about Dagwood's pickles that I crave. And that sounds really dirty out of context. #3 The sauce. I know it's a love/hate thing, but I really really like it. There's something tangy about it. As a warning though, at one point my Visa card was stolen so my mom temporarily gave me her Mastercard to use for stuff I needed around town -- Dagwood's doesn't accept Mastercard. Disclaimer- long ago I used to be a delivery driver for Dagwoods. I have no affiliation with the restaurant other than that. I love Dagwoods- the food is relatively cheap, the meat is super high quality, and the portions are pretty generous. I am also addicted to the special sauce like it's total crack. Dagwood's makes a decent enough sandwich, and it certainly has the range - such a long menu! - but a full sandwich often seems overpriced for the amount of food you get, especially since most of their sandwiches seem like ones I could replicate pretty well at home for much less if I had that kind of time in my life. I have lived here for almost 4 years and somehow I have overlooked reviewing my favorite sandwich place in town. Never have had a bad sandwich here. The turkey cranberry croissant and turkey wrap are my favorites, but everything is good. Love how natural and fresh all their deli meats taste. Whether it's take-out or dine-in, the service is fast and friendly. I also really enjoy their fresh baked cookies. The caramel pecan is really unique and delicious. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Went to Dagwood's for the first time today. The recently renovated building is nice, though it seems to lack the character that the old one had (or so I've heard). I had the Ultimate Turkey...great stuff. Fresh, whole pieces of turkey, great avacado, etc. The subs are about $5-$6 each, so they're not cheap, but it's worth the price, I'd say. Service was slow, but they had a sign warning about that on the front door because they've hired all new staff, so that should improve in the future. Good location off Indiana near the Sample Gates, Kirwood, etc. Highly recommended over places like Subway or Jimmy Johns. read more
