I love the breakfast. It's simple and exactly what you'd expect from a diner. The hash browns are nice and crispy. I have noticed in the past year or so the quality of the bacon and biscuits and gravy has gone down though. The gravy tastes like generic canned sausage gravy. read more

They supposedly "lost" our order ticket & they waitress didn't notice until 3 other tables all got served before us even they came in & order after us. The ham n cheese was dry, the ham was overcooked & tough. My aunt's swiss steak had peppers and onions, half the steak was raw, when I asked if she got the pepper steak by mistake she claimed that it was the swiss steak. That apparently makes a difference because often times when I entered this establishment, I had to track down someone to take my order or ask for something. There's no illusion of pleasantries. I went in there with my fiance a couple months ago when I first moved to Spencer Indiana I loved the food best mozzarella sticks ever I give this little restaurant a three out of five stars because they're only open until 3:00 which I don't know why I think that a diner should be open until like late so that way everyone can come in for dinner or something and actually sit down and eat but otherwise the food is good the servers are friendly love the atmosphere that I love the decorations I would definitely come back especially for the mozzarella sticks they were a 10 out of 10 actually I'll give them a 20 out of 20 because they were like the best mozzarella sticks I ever had read more

This is a nice little place hidden in Spencer, Indiana. There is a variety of breakfast options. If you leave hungry it is definitely your own fault, the portions are decent sized. The bathrooms were clean and have changing tables. The restaurant was clean. It was a bit loud for not being very busy, that was weird. We are loud people so we didn't care. We had a party of 25 and the waitress ON IT. We never had a half of a cup of coffee before she was there to warm it up. I got the feeling all the waitresses were like that. One star for the staff. Food is mostly flavorless. Green beans included burned bacon but basically tasted like they were reheated right out of the can. Carrots could not have been more bland. Not even salt and pepper on those bad boys. Meatloaf was moist but had so much ketchup on top that it overwhelmed the actual meat. Honestly, this restaurant used to be better. Went there because Bloomington restaurants were busy with IU game. Lots of seats, lots of people, no masks on servers or patrons. Table was not cleaned between customers. Good selection of fried food. We had hamburger and a patty melt, french fries and onion rings as sides. All the food was served hot, good thing. The sides were nothing special- premade frozen fried straight from the bag. Service and follow up quick and frequent. Young servers flirting with the older guys. Nothing special, just a local place. Waitress was friendly and attentive in just the right way. Our food arrived to the table within minutes. Everything tasted wonderful and well proportioned. Prices were reasonable and I loved the fact that the check was on the table before we finished our meal, especially if you in a hurry. We ordered on a whim and was pleasantly surprised! The breaded portabella mushrooms were delicious!! We will definitely order again!

What a pleasant experience. As soon as we entered we were greeted and told to grab a menu and choose a seat and someone would be with us. Minutes after sitting down our server arrived for our drink order, asked us if we knew what we wanted to eat. All this to say the service was great and the food was delicious. Spencer doesnt have many restaurant choices so we decided to try this family restaurant. As we walked in the door one of the booths was pulled away from the wall so we walked around it to a table. Our waitress gave us our menues with a check on top. The check turned out to be the list of daily specials. Weird. We both ordered the 21 shrimp which came with soup, potato, and green beans. My 21 shrimp dinner came with 17 shrimp. Thats ok as thats all i could eat. They seemed to be Gortons frozen shrimp with mostly breading. The food was as expected and was priced fairly so I wouldve given another star but the girls ran the vacuum cleaner through half our meal which lowered the ambience quite a bit. I get it--you want to get your work done early so you can leave quickly, but thats no way to treat customers who are trying to chat with their evening meal. :( read more

We'll this is the only non fast food choice in Spencer. I've been here twice for lunch. I've had the turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes and this time the mushroom Swiss burger. It's not gourmet but it's much better than mcdonalds! They have breakfast all day and lots of specials. read more

If you like greesy spoon type places then this place is for you. I love greesy spoon places so I love this place. No it's not fancy, yes it's sometime loud, and yes the food is sometimes greesy BUT ITS GOOD! Very reasonably priced. I suggest giving it a try. read more

This little place is tucked away in a tiny strip mall. The staff was friendly and service was wonderful. The food was a good value for the amount you get. The coffee was just right, not weak,bitter or anything bad. The food was good. I wouldn't say it was great as in a fancy restaurant great but it definitely wasn't bad. It was like home cooking for a great price with none of the mess. My son enjoyed his pancakes very much. My husband ordered the fullest omelet that we have ever seen. I had the country fried steak and they had plenty of delicious gravy smothering it. It wasn't skimpy like you see with many other restaurants. The ladies bathroom was very clean and nicely decorated although the handicap bar was broken, they had a note on it to not use it. For a diner; 5 stars. Hubs & I enjoyed brunch after our morning g home at McCormicks Creek. He ordered chicken fried steak with eggs over easy ( the gravy was amazing) and I had 1/2 order of French toast (perfect portion of two slices ) with eggs over easy- our waitress brought warm syrup and served our tomato juices ice cold - she also brought milk for my coffee/ service was efficient and very friendly- I also appreciated modified decor- half walls were built around the doors to the restrooms for modesty- nice touch- breakfast is served all day but they also offered about 8 lunch specials - our tab was )25 for two filling breakfasts - delicious read more

Sweet Owen is a fairly new restaurant in this small town and has really not met up to expectations. All open seating with booths along the walls, it has traditional American fare. They made me a salad with withered tomato and rubbery cucumber--unforgivable in this region of farms and woods. So that's the problem. They're not above putting out a plate that shouldn't have gone out. Had they been more picky about what they serve, I think they would have kept and gained customers that have tried them, been disappointed and not come back. Hopefully they'll read this and take it to heart. I'd eat here more if I felt I could trust 'em. So far, I can't. Service has been consistently good altho the noise level from staff activity like vacuuming has been too high to dine comfortably. read more
