We stopped here on a whim and had an amazing experience. It seems like a pretty typical pub - low lighting, TVs on every wall a but the food was far superior to others I've been to in Philly. We got a couple of seafood dishes and the butter sauce was INCREDIBLE. We kept it just to dip the rest of our food in. I got a French Dip and fries and my husband got a seafood special. We got the lava cake for dessert and were pleasantly stuffed by the end of it. Our waitress was particularly great (I wish I could remember her name!). She was very friendly, helpful with recommendations, and efficient. Our food and drinks came out fast and she was constantly checking in. Rarely do I give a 5 star review but this place is a GEM... the food is beyond incredible! Never had a bad meal here. I've gotten the Vern Wings (great), the french onion burger (incredible), and tonight was one if not the greatest dish I've ever had. The bartenders are great, the food is delicious, but if it's just two of you be prepared to sit at a table with plexiglass between you and other diners, which made me VERY uncomfortable. we've decided we're not going back unless we can get a seat at the bar or one of the tables along the wall in the front by the bar as I just don't like sitting on top of people. Looks like we were a couple days early for crabs so we had oysters and calamari then my son had mozzarella sticks and I had broiled scallops. Went two times this past week and my sister and I enjoyed it both times. Such a nice menu with variety - we enjoyed the blackened salmon, fried Jersey tomatoes with crab, the lobster pot, and the gnocchi with chicken as our main courses. The seafood fries and the cheese steak Pierogies were also delicious and plenty to share as appetizers. I have to add the slushy blood orange drink was yummy and refreshing, as well! Really only had Mama G's Meatballs and boy can I tell you do not skip over this treat on the menu! I've had the platter and the sandwich and both are so good! The fresh ricotta in the middle of the platter is so good! The meatballs taste like your grandmothers family recipe! The garlic bread is a great finishing touch! The sandwich is actually those same famous meatballs sandwiched between that same garlic bread. I have a hard time choosing between the 2 but usually end up with the platter because of that cheesy goodness! If I'm the area give them a try, you will not be disappointed! Yes, I do think this is well worth a try. I stopped in to see a friend, who suggested we have a drink around the corner. This place is off the beaten trail. Its warm and welcoming atmosphere made me feel comfortable--one long bar on one side and high tables with chairs on the other side of the room. The lights dim with the TVs on. The place was not even half full, but other patrons were at the bar. We ordered drinks: me a White Russian, my friend a draft beer, plus an order of fried pickles. My friend was a fried pickle virgin. So we ordered them, and there were enough for three people to eat. They were perfect, crispy, and hot with a ranch dressing. We both enjoyed them and our drinks. I would come back again and try something else off the bar menu. They serve American pub food, and cheese steaks, and they get fresh seafood in every day. Its great to watch a game or just to hang with friends and family. Cash or cards. It's clean and has a dining room for more formal events with an extensive menu. Butter cake dessert after an amazing prime rib dinner. First time here and the prices are good, Kathy was my server and she was super friendly and recommended some of their dishes, which I always appreciate. The prime rib was divine with super delish mashed potatos. Butter cake too sweet - wouldn't order again but it sure is pretty. The seating is pretty basic with average chairs with solid backs. Volume was low but sitting so close to my neighboring tables, I could hear both conversations. I know prices are higher everywhere, however Dagwood's prices do not seem to be in line with this, they seem to be above and beyond. We have been to Dagwood's a bunch of times over the years. It is a fantastic place. Beautiful bar top, beautiful tin ceiling. The food is also wonderful. Today, I had the shaved pork sandwich which was on the lunch menu. You can have your choice of sides...fries, chips or salad. I chose salad. The salad was amazingly large for a side and delicious! The shaved pork sandwich was the best I have ever had! Seriously delicious! My husband had the kielbasa cheesesteak which he thoroughly enjoyed. The food here is incredible! Everything we have ever had is outstanding. The service was wonderful. We sat at the bar and the server was attentive but not obtrusive. We highly recommend! read more

This is an excellent place with a warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and tasty food -- isn't that what everyone hopes for? I do wish that some of their menu items listed with MP had clearer pricing, as it can sometimes feel a bit uncertain to ask about the cost. It leaves you curious about how often and how they decide on the daily prices. I noticed they have a chalkboard with the daily special price when you enter through the side door. Why not list all the MP prices directly on the chalkboard? By displaying those prices every day, it would make things much clearer and more comfortable for everyone. read more

Our experience at the Dagwood's Pub was fantastic, we thought the staff really shared the mission to make each guest's visit memorable. I personally had the she crab soup that was the highlight of my meal, it was creamy with fresh tasting ingredients that made the start of my meal really stand out. I also enjoyed the fish taco from the afternoon specials that was big and delicious, not a small fish taco that I have had at other restaurants. The vibe in the restaurant area was of locals enjoying a bite and a drink after work or to just kick off the weekend. I observed many family and friends enjoying a late lunch or early dinner together, groups that assembled to not only enjoy good food and drink but the company of each other. As a visitor I enjoy eating in a local location that the neighborhood supports and shares the staff's vision to enjoy time with friends. We try to go there once a month. First the bad news. Parking is a challenge. You have to time it right to park within 50 yards of the door. Ask your hostess when it best time to come. If you're not a local in northeast Philly you would definitely drive by this place and think nothing of it. Even if you were to stumble in for a beer, by the atmosphere you would expect some run of the mill bar food, but you'd be strongly mistaken. There is a wide range of options from wings to gnocchi with large chunks of crabmeat and everything in between. It's a great atmosphere for dinner and hanging for drinks after and something for everyone on the menu to enjoy. The pricing is reasonable and the servings are always very large, which I love. I had to hold a star back for the sometimes very long waits when there is a party or a busy night even for take out can be an hour wait. With this in mind, probably worth a call ahead to avoid a longer wait. read more

Jack has a great team in the kitchen. There is a great team behind the bar. The Prime Rib is sliced and seasoned to near perfection. The roll works for this cheesesteak. We came here for my brothers birthday. I had never been here before and parking can get tricky. We stayed in the bar area, the bartenders were amazing. They do not have a fancy drink menu but they will make you anything you want. I loved that they had decent specials throughout the week. Mondays are $1 clams casino and $6 cheeseburgers. We ordered the clams casino, chicken tenders and fries, buffalo shrimp. The clams casino were huge and breading mixture on top was delicious. They do keep the clam whole. I really enjoyed the buffalo shrimp, they were colossal sized and the sauce had a very nice kick to it. The fries were crinkle cut. Came here with a friend around the holidays for lunch and to pick up some holiday gift cards. First time diner. Disclaimer: we were both starving. My friend and I got the she-crab soup (so creamy and delicious; the bowl is filling, but saves room for at least half your entree). We split the mozzarella stick and meatballs. The sauce was just delicious. We also split entrees: seafood wrap and prime rib melt. We were so full though from the apps that we had to box those to go. I had the pleasure to enjoy both later and can't believe how good they were reheated/out of the fridge!! I highly recommend all the food we tried. Went back about a month later with my mom. She's never been. We both had a bowl of the soup. We split the seafood wrap and the white seafood pizza. More than enough food with leftovers again. This place is a neighborhood gem. I can't wait to go back and try other menu items. My only gripe is that the downstairs dining area is a bit cramped with tables very close together. Salt, Salt, Salt. This is what I remember from coming here recently for dinner with my wife. We had a gift card itching to be used, and we finally had some time to ourselves so we thought Dagwoods would be a nice meal out. Our hostess seated us very quickly without a reservation, but we ended up by the very busy kitchen entrance and busser station constantly emptying leftover food waste. My margarita was nothing special and seemed small, and my wife's vodka cranberry was on the spot. We started with the mozzarella sticks which they said they make themselves with the breading. The long rectangular wedges were nicely done and not overcooked. Both of us felt they were on the salty side, and the marinara was a nice touch with them. I had a French Onion Soup which was too much cheese (surprising that I'm mentioning this), very soggy croutons underneath, good amount of onions, and the flavor was fine. Not bad, not good. Again, super salty to me. I also had two appetizers instead of a main course. I went with the steamed mussels in a red sauce, and a seafood trio which included scallops, shrimp, and I believe crab in a siracha aioli. The mussels were quite good, but the trio dish seemed that the seafood was not 100% cleaned because there were some pieces of something in there that crunched. Maybe it was pieces of rock salt as this dish, too, seemed overly salted. The supposed siracha aioli was nonexistent in taste. My wife had the salmon entre. The side dish of the potato pancakes was excellent, the salmon was a nice sized piece, and the salad she had was a nice group of greens and other Chef's salad parts. The restaurant also has plenty of options for burgers, steaks, meatballs, and other fried or broiled seafood. Service was attentive and friendly. The attached bar was also quite busy. Dagwood's Pub has been around for a long time (I believe since the late 80s had has a Cheers vibe with their regulars). The place is loud; at least on the first floor. $97 not including tip for two drinks, two bottles of beer, three appetizers, and an entree. I think we'll try again, but maybe for one of the steaks or burgers. The salt taste was in my mouth for several hours when I got home. read more
