Their Burger Battle Burger was a home run. Very tasty and the service was superb. We will be back to try some of the tacos soon.

My wife and I visit Dahlia about twice each month. This has quickly become our favorite restaurant in Sioux Falls. The service is excellent each time and even when it has been busy, we have found it easy to have a conversation. There have been several menu items that we have tried, but once we tried the Trinity Nachos, they stuck as what we craved. We often would go just for these wonderful nachos. The menu, however, has changed. The Trinity Nachos were swapped with Dahlia Nachos, which I tried this afternoon. The new nachos that were served were quite a downgrade from what we have been used to. The nachos were piled with taco meat (ground beef) which really tanked the quality of the rest of the ingredients--which were high quality, but overpowered by the greasy taco meat. I think chicken would have done wonders here. I understand that the Trinity Nachos were at a very good price point, so perhaps they were not as lucrative, but I would happily pay more for what the Trinity Nachos were--the best nacho in Sioux Falls. The other menu items seemed to be similar to the old menu. Today, we received two star food from what used to be a slam dunk place to eat. I hope these can make a return, but until then, we will be choosing other venues. read more

I was so excited to check this place out since moving to Sioux Falls. My boyfriend and I finally got the chance to go and it was disappointing. From service, to the food, to just the amount of time it took to get everything. Within one hour of being there we got served a ceviche and one round of drinks. Within that same hour, a second appetizer order was placed as well as our entree order but considering how long it had been, I asked to cancel the guacamole. They still brought it out because they had already "made it" yet it tasted like it wasn't even fresh. Tasted like old guacamole with mixed in sour cream and lime to bring it to life. Ceviche portion was very tiny and none of the seafood tasted fresh. When the entrees finally did come out, chicken tacos were fine. Shrimp tacos, tortillas were very cold. We mentioned it to the server and they brought out tortillas wrapped in aluminum and said "here are some warm tortillas". That was a bit off putting. They also said that when you place cold items on a tortilla, it causes it to be cold... Well the shrimp wasn't supposed to be cold considering it states on the menu that it's grilled and the edges of the tortillas were cold so I didn't think that made much sense. Once ready to check out, someone from the kitchen named Alex came out and apologized, explained what was going on, etc. and we really respected that. We weren't making a scene but we did just want to get our check and leave since we didn't enjoy anything. So for him to take the time to come out and just hear us out meant a lot. We can understand a busy night and we can also understand that it's not always easy to face people in situations like this but Alex did it so pleasantly and we not once asked to speak to a manager. The only interactions were to order and then to cancel an item so thank you Alex for understanding where we were coming from without us even having to say anything. The last thing I will say is that our server, when the check was brought out, said something along the lines of "well at least you got some discounts" like no, we don't care about discounts. We didn't ask for them nor was that our intention so I thought that was a bit rude and I did let her know that we would have paid the full check with no complaints. This place is all about the beautiful, fun vibe. I love coming here for drinks, especially the margaritas. They're done right, not the weird yellow or green kind. Nothing blew my mind with the entrées, but they do have solid appetizers and the service is good. Definitely a great spot for apps and drinks with friends. read more

Table of six. None of the orders were correct or tasty. Short rib was actually crispy! And served over rice instead of the promised potato puree. Chimichanga was filled with mush! Couldn't identify anything in it. Definitely will not be going back. read more

We are staying in Sioux Falls for the weekend and this was across from our hotel so we stopped in for happy hour. I'm so glad we did! They have amazing happy hour specials that are hard to find now a days! The margarita was very authentic tasting. We ordered the gringo nachos and the waiter accidentally put in the gringo tacos so he gave them to us on the house! The tacos were amazing. Crunchy house fried shells, crema, perfectly seasoned taco meat. The nachos were pretty darn good too and I loved the chips and salsa! This will definitely be a place we recommend and stop in at when we are in the area! read more

Nice interior- outdoors looks good when the weather is warmer. Service was excellent, the margarita, chips, and salsa outstanding, my wife's meal- chimichanga also was great. The burrito was baked and was only average- the rice and the corn tortilla were a gemish with no texture- the vegetables and the pork pastor were fine. I like a burrito with sauce and this doesn't have much. Will return and try other menu items. read more

Beautiful New Mexican restaurant in Steel District. When arriving, I loved the ambience. It was upbeat, impressive, busy and service was fast. I visited Dahlia with friends to try out their items. We were seated and served chips and salsa. The salsa was good but they went a little over with the cumin. For drinks we ordered hummingbird, the dahlia and a spicy margarita called "cheech." These margaritas were strong! I ordered the street corn birria burger from the burger battle, it was delicious. The birria was well cooked in the right seasonings, the street corn had amazing taste to it and has a creamy/cheesy texture which made this an amazing burger. This burger was served with a side of consome and fries. I hope they permanently keep this on their menu. I would come back for this burger. Our waiter was attentive and polite. We asked for a dessert menu, they didn't have one but did vocally tell us our options. We ordered churros to share and these were not my favorite. Churros had a citrus-y flavor, perhaps orange zest in the dough. They weren't soft inside and crispy on the outside. The chocolate dip had 'mole', from what we were told. I love mole but I don't think this was a good twist to it. The chocolate dip was watery, didn't stick to our churros. I'd suggest a traditional dip like cajeta or thickening the chocolate a bit more. Overall I liked the restaurant, the art, architecture and ambience was fun. There was a DJ after 9pm on Saturday night. I will be coming back to try other items from their menu. Tried this place twice, once for lunch and enjoyed the Ancho Rubbed Ribeye tacos. I requested a Skinny Margarita with the least amount of sugar ingredients but it did disappoint as you can see the difference in color (photos) and taste. The chips and salsa were complimentary and very good. The evening meal we had was at the bar and I explained once again about the Skinny Margarita I wanted and as you can tell by the photo it was spot on. The evening bartender was excellent. The Queso Fundido was smokey and rich. The Short Rib Birria was fork tender and delicious. I would give it 4.5 stars and definitely return. read more

During a recent stay in Sioux Falls we decided to try "Dahlia," a new "Mexican" restaurant next to the Canopy Hotel in the "Steelworks District (or whatever it's called)" in the quickly renovating downtown area. The venue is huge and the décor is trendy and sort of avantgarde at the same time. We went on a Monday night and the place was pretty empty - it prompted the question in my mind of "how will they survive?" given the expansiveness of the restaurant. The portions were huge - in typical midwestern fashion. We ordered the nachos, and I wish we hadn't as they were enormous and just had too much going on. As the menu indicates, there is a bunch of "different meats" on it, and the dish overall just feels lazy - it could be good, but the way it's executed it makes it just a pile of food. We ordered the "gringo" tacos as well as the fish tacos - none of which are in a corn tortilla (flour tortillas - I should note that while nothing is authentic, they could at least offer a choice of tortilla). The tacos could have been OK, but they lacked any flavor or spice and desperately needed a flavorful salsa which there was none. We shared the short rib birria which also could have been good (noticing a theme?), but it didn't taste fresh -rather I think everything is pre-made and they just reheated it as it came out really really quickly (too quickly). Overall, service was good, but the food was really disappointing - at least to someone who knows good Mexican food. While I wasn't expecting super authentic Mexican cuisine, it still should have been better for something that is trying to essentially be "upscale fusion Mexican (my words, not theirs)." read more

Dropped in for a Saturday afternoon late lunch with three of us. Two orders of Shrimp Tacos with a delicious Mango salsa, Beef Tacos were less spicy but delicious as well. I went to Dahlia's to celebrate my future sister in laws birthday and to tell you the truth this place was a vibe. There was a DJ playing some chill music and it really set the tone. The outside is beautiful but we decided to stay inside for our meal which has a beautiful tone to it! The food was great and the service was fantastic! This is a great place to go if you want to go somewhere nice but not overly pricey! I had the Ceviche tacos which were delicious but it could use a little bit more flavor but it still hit the spot. The nachos were huge so you will definitely get your moneys worth. The drinks were awesome too and I highly recommend the margaritas! Overall I would give this place a 4.3 read more

We went here on a Saturday afternoon and were seated immediately. It's a large restaurant so don't be hesitant to check it out just because it's new! It's a vibrant environment with several different types of seating options including a large bar. Joshua H. was our waiter and was WONDERFUL! We tried the fuego guac which didn't have any heat (probably depends on the jalapeños at this particular day they were spicy) but it was creamy, chunky and delicious. The salsa is on-point and the chips are fresh. I had the tequila shrimp tacos and my friend had the chicken tinga taquitos--both were delish. It's a little bit of a higher price point but definitely reasonable for the quality. I hear they have a huge selection of tequilas but we didn't order drinks this time. Check it out! read more

Seating was miserable. A couch and bench on either side of a table. I am short and had to sit on the very edge of the bench and extend my neck and head over the table to eat. The sun was right in our eyes and they had no shades or blinds to pull. The drink menus, empty glasses and dishes were just left in our way on the table. It seemed like dishes were very piled up. Stopped in for dinner and had a pretty good experience. The place itself is super cute with a nice atmosphere--definitely has that trendy, upscale feel. I started with the chips and salsa, which were really good. The salsa was fresh and flavorful. I loved it. The chips were crunchy and well salted. The chicken tortilla soup looked great, but it really lacked flavor--just needed some salt or something to bring it to life. I got the shrimp tacos, and those were kind of a mixed bag. The corn tortillas were pretty, but they were flabby and didn't pair well with the taco guts. That said, the shrimp and coleslaw filling was actually really good--fresh and flavorful. Had a strawberry margarita with it all, which was tasty and refreshing. All in all, not bad, not great. I might give it another try down the road, but probably wouldn't rush back. read more

She went over the whole menu told her exactly what to get and not to get and came back and checked all the time. I sat at the bar at 5:00 pm. The service was satisfactory. The bartender did not place my order despite recommending the entree; maybe she forgot. It wasn't a problem; there were chips and salsa to keep me busy. I ordered the salmon entree. The taste was outstanding, and the presentation was excellent. However, the salmon was rare, which I do not prefer. Since no one asked how I wanted it cooked, rare salmon must be their preferred cooking method. read more

It's a great new restaurant in Sioux Falls. The menu offers a nice variety of items, including great chips and salsa. There is also a great and unique selection of drinks. Fantastic experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making this a perfect spot. The chips were fresh and warm along with the salsa being sole of the best l've had. The main course food was absolutely delicious, with great flavors and presentation. On top of that, the service was impeccable-attentive, friendly, and efficient.
