SO if you see a pic or post about something you want to try, you may not see it on the menu when you come in. FOOD: Venison ceviche with sweet potato chips - it was ok Beef Tartare - it was good. I've always wanted to try this but the onions (aka shallots) were a bit much for me kale Gratin - the best thing we tried and it was a side SERVICE: she was polite, nice and willing to answer questions. that being said, I felt judged by her. She seemed puzzled that we only ordered those 3 things. Well I didn't feel that I needed to explain myself and tell her about my day and my late lunch etc. I politely said no....... She explained the plates were small and almost appetizer portion. Ok, that will be fine, we expected that, thank you. (informative as some may genuinely not have known) fine.. Once we were done: we were offered a dessert menu. No thanks - also not eating dessert bc I am getting married in 2 weeks... so.... (again didnt feel the need to share all my life/s details...) She paused and just stared for a minute... and said "um..ok.. well would you like to order more foooood??!?! No thanks. just the check (like we asked for). If we intended to get dessert or order more food would have done so with no problem. It was honestly there was nothing else on the menu I wanted to try. The pics I had seen were not on the menu - but I didn't feel the need to tell her that. Maybe we came on a bad night? Maybe she didn't have enough tables and needed us to order more so she could get more tips? I am not really sure. but to ask and tell me in not so many certain words that I wasn't ordering enough for her I thought was kind of odd on her part. Would I return? Wonderful! This is how I imagine Texas ranchers (with gourmet chefs) eat: hearty, meat-centric, rich meals. We stopped by for brunch, and it was delicious: -I had a brunch dish that was like a sandwich: two sourdough pancakes with egg and venison sausage between them, topped with maple syrup. Very good but a bit overwhelming. The venison sausage was maybe the best part, though I wasn't a big fan of the way they cooked the egg. -The biscuit was very good--a little crispier than most biscuits I've had, but that goes with Dai Due's hearty theme. And I requested jam to go with it, and they came out with this awesome (orange maybe?) preserve--so good. -Cinnamon kolache--like a cinnamon roll but in kolache form. Again, obviously so good. I would not have gone here expecting wonderful seafood (given "butcher shop" is in their name), but on the evening I went their super club menu was seafood.....and it was amazing. The starter course was a delicious and zesty seafood soup. The main was a seafood platter, with a seafood sausage, fish (pompano), soft shell crab, plump shrimp, grilled corn and asparagus, was a beautiful plate to behold. Everything on that plate was excellent. The grilled pecan sourdough bread went perfectly with the soup. They have a nice selection from our hill country's best wineries and micro-breweries. The cold meat board had roast beef, ham, pate, and Summer sausage as well as stone ground mustard, head cheese, and house made pickles served with toasted bread triangles. The mezze board had delicious olives, hummus, pita bread, babba ghanouj, pickled cucumbers, and tabouli. Everything we ate was very flavorful and we'll seasoned as well as expertly prepared. There were so many potatoes in comparison to the meat. And the potatoes were so dry. The meat seemed overcooked and it was very chewy, like beef jerky. The beet ketchup on top was original and semi made up for the dry potatoes though. For this quality, it wasn't worth the money I spent. Overall, I'm not impressed. Excited to try this place while we are in Austin. There is a butcher shop in the restaurant and the meats are really fresh. They locally source the food and most is organic. We came during brunch and had the biscuits and gravy with venison and an egg. We also shared the dai due breakfast. The biscuits and gravy was really tasty. The venison tasted fresh and was really good! However the dai due breakfeast fell flat. The rice had no flavor and was just really dull. We tried adding salt, pepper and hot sauce but it still lacked flavor. I tried a cocktail and it was good. Recommend the sparkling pineapple cocktail which had he right mix of sweet/sour/alcohol content. Overall it was a unique place and maybe better for dinner. Probably best to stick to the meats here and it probably deserves more stars than 3 but our meals just weren't up to par and maybe not the best on the menu. For our 45th Anniversary we decided to go someplace different. We found a very pleasing atmosphere on a Friday afternoon visit. No line or wait at 1:30. Sat right down and ordered the Cemita Ahogada; something I was not sure about, or even how to go about eating. A pork suadero stuffed cemita bun with delicious and flavorful herbs and an assortment of condiments in a spicy broth served in a bowl.. My wife had the Nicoise Salad which is a combination of tuna, crispy potatoes, green bean with tomatoes and lettuce dressed in a roasted pepper oil vinaigrette. She loved it. It's all good and could be great. This place sells out the reservations. Several days in advance and only 5:30 available, no problem since that is my dinner time. A lot of promise but a bit short on the meat dream. Expected a plethora of meat choices but it was pretty thin not even a beef steak. It is admittedly a small operation not really capable of feast offerings for all. Hard to imagine they were a food truck. On this night pork was the way to go. Incredible neck chop all perfect in every way of Red Waddle, could not ask for more. A bit of a kitchen slip up caused a small disruption but it was quickly amended and generously taken care of. Dang it, Dai Due. I expected so much more from you! The service and atmosphere was great! I had a little trouble changing my reservation of 5 to 8, but I was accommodated well--I was pleasantly surprised. But on to the food! For a table of 8, we ordered a lot (mainly me though). The wine on tap was surprisingly good. Totally recommend that! Appetizers: Beef carpaccio -- Nothing too fancy going on here. Meat, seasoning, and shallots. The beef was buttery and pretty darn good. Overall, good, but nothing amazing (other than the quality of the beef, holy cow). Chicken empanada with mayo thing -- I actually really liked this! I think the pastry could have been a tad flakier, but overall, I liked it and would order it again. I think the mayo really sold it. I honestly can't tell you the flavor of the chicken... Garlic sourdough bread with some flavored honey lard -- Really disappointing. The sourdough was really dry and not very flavorful. The lard (butter) thing was also not rich in flavor. It sounded delicious but wasn't. Main courses: Supper club fried chicken -- Some of the chicken was fried really well and super juicy. The breast wasn't though; it was a bit dry. The biscuit and gravy was good though, but not too special. Grilled giant beef rib with potato/sauerkraut dumplings -- Holy crap was this thing expensive, and I ordered it. I was expecting Flinstone level giant rib, and it actually was pretty massive. Was not disappointed by size haha. Flavor was really good. Slightly overcooked but most of the meat was prepared well and was falling off the bone. Very good, but REALLY pricey! Big enough for 2. Pork chop -- Disappointing. Flavor just wasn't there. Brunch: Sufficient menu, but didn't see a whole lot of brunch-esque options. That's not a terrible thing, but I really wanted breakfast options and there were really only 2...3 if you count single pastries. We both opted for the breakfast platter. It was pretty fantastic! They do the eggs just right! I asked for over medium and it was perfect! And the biscuits are divine! Like I wish I had that right now! Yum! And that jam! Been back a few times for some takeout during Pandemic. Every time super satisfied and love the changing menu so each week you can't try new special from the Cobb salad to the crab poboy. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST DINNER'S OF MY LIFE. My husband ate at Dai Due about a year ago. We came to Austin this past weekend for a little anniversary get away. Rob insisted that we eat dinner at Dai Due. Y'all ..... it was so good. Like, life changing good. Like, one of the top 5 meals of my life good. A dinner I will remember forever. We started with Centex Mezze board and the chicken liver mousse. Delicious. "A+". All of it was just delicious. Rob and I shared Wild Boar Confit for our main dish and had sides of hominy and grits and the green beans. The confit melted in your mouth with a crispy edge to the pork; oh the flavors with just a touch of heat. The hominy and grits were perfect. Perfect crispy cheesy - ness. And, the green beans were perfect ... not underdone (no green bean squeak), not overdone; the bacon / ham with the garlic. We were not planning on dessert, but it was our anniversary and they offered us a dessert on the house..... so, we "suffered" our way through a butterscotch pudding. We didn't do the supper club because of what we wanted to try off the main menu. Our meal was "A+" delicious. We immediately wanted to rewind the night and start our date night at Dai Due from the beginning ... would not have changed a thing. Just want to experience it all over again. Again with pesky expectations. Dai due is one of the most heralded restaurants locally, regionally and nationally. It's a solid restaurant offering creative and admittedly tasty fares. Just nothing that really knocked my socks off. I enjoyed my meal, the atmosphere and most of all, the service so I can't complain. Portions are substantial. Food is imaginative and competently executed but not quite the Mary Lou Retton 10.0. Service: Fantastic. I wish I had gotten the server's name. He was discretely attentive and sold the menu well. Not as tender as I like my tartare but I'm probably too spoiled by Jeffery's. Meat board - Not bad. Not great. I didn't feel like the charcuterie was complex or distinctive. Avocado with some fancy stuff on top and crickets. Honestly, this was the most creative and tasty dish I had...if I could get over the psychological barrier of eating an insect. The juxtaposition of buttery avocado with the texture of the jerky followed by the distinct nuttiness of the crickets was exquisite. I had one bite. Look, I'm working on my entomology palate, ok. Grilled Beef Rib - It's one rib and it will feed Fred Flintstone or 3 normal adults easily. It's also delish. Dry rubbed with spices and a hint of sweetness - fork cutting tender. I had it with a side of mustard greens that had just enough bitterness to cut the fatty ribs. Fish Soup - this was part of the supper club menu. Wasn't much to look at and way too much garlic aioli spread on the bread floating on top. The broth was nevertheless tasty. I just couldn't get that excited about it. One of my favorite restaurants in Austin! The highlight is, as you might expect, the quality of the meat. If there's one thing that's been consistent about every dish that I've tried here, it's that the meat is always super juicy, fresh-tasting, and flavorful. Makes sense, considering that it's part butcher shop, part restaurant. I've had a variety of both traditional American dishes (e.g. the Reuben, yum) as well as Tex-Mex/Mexican inspired dishes here, and they really kill it at both! They don't hold back on the flavor and spice for the dishes where that's the intent, and that makes me appreciate the food even more. You can tell that there's really intention put behind each of the dishes. Never purchased any of the meats from the butcher section, but if the restaurant food is any indication, then it's probably great. read more

I've heard so much about this restaurant so when we had the opportunity to stop in for a business lunch on October 19, the decision was an easy one. Parking can be a challenge (as is the case in most of Austin) and finding the entrance was a brief and funny game of hide and seek. But, these minor details added to the charm and didn't over shadow our anticipation of the dining experience to come. The decor is simple, yet charming, and quite appropriate for the culinary offerings. Thuy, our knowledgeable server, described the restaurant and the menu in great detail. She was patient and listened well to our questions and comments. Now, the goal here as we understood it from Thuy, is food prepared in its truest form and locally sourced, aside from just a few exceptions. Thus, there are no gluten-free items, no milk substitutes, and the like. Also, don't expect Tito's Vodka as some ingredients are sourced other than from Austin. As I have no challenges here, I was fine. My business partner had a few food allergies but was still able to find delectable menu selections. My choice was the Pastrami Sandwich without the cheese, as I don't care for melted cheese and the Chicken Cobb Salad. Each was divine and quite filling. The price point is what would be expected for a restaurant offering fresh meats butchered in house. Our meal and the service were delightful. I was 15 minutes early for my reservation and they were kind to sit me anyways. The restaurant wasn't full. Server was very pleasant. I had the chicken liver mousse. It tasted okay. I can tell it wasn't blended well. There was more salt on one bite than another. Inconsistent so as to say. Then I had their signature dish, the wild boar confit with broth. Something with confit caused it to be a little dry on the outside. But the middle part was good. Good thing they had the broth to moisten the meat. Savory and spicy. It didn't wow me. For dessert I had the strawberry and mango sorbet. I love the mango part. Love it. Strawberry part was good. For drinks I had the melon Agua Fresca. They ran out after the second one. I've been lucky enough to live literally next door to this place for the last ten months and now that I'm moving, I think I might miss this place most of all. The food is outstanding. They offer a neatly curated and seasonal menu. Go for brunch, get the CenTex Breakfast (go with the venison sausage, you won't regret it) and make sure you split their pastry of the day with your dining companions. If you're there for dinner, get the Mezze to share, everything on it is excellent. It's seasonal so the items on it rotate out, but I've never had anything on it that wasn't awesome. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this place. The atmosphere is relaxed but at the same time it makes you feel like you're at home too. Decided to give it a shot after initially coming here for the place next door. Looked interesting with a couple of groups sitting on the vine covered patio enjoying the mild weather. I wish I would have just went with my gut. We were sat rather quickly and ordered Coffee and a "mint" lemonade that apparently was a "typo" on the menu as a bartender walked to our table and plopped down a glass bottle of just lemonade like she was annoyed we ordered it after struggling to twist open the cap. We decided to order the Central Texas breakfast and Dia Due breakfast. My "Centex" arrived with scorching hot eggs and antelope sausage. Everything else on the plate felt and tasted like it had been sitting in piece of tupperware at room temperature for hours. The grits were cold, the cream gravy was cold and tasteless, the potatoes were....old and the biscuit tasted like it had been sitting out for hours and reheated in a microwave. Nothing was fresh except the eggs and sausage, which were decent, yet undercooked. My GF ordered the Dai Due breakfast which was supposed to include kimchi. Their "kimchi" was NOT kimchi, putting some cucumbers, pickles, and okra in a vinegar bath without any chili flakes, garlic, and actual fermintation before serving isn't "Kimchi" and they should be ashamed of themselves for serving this. Sunday they have a pre fixe menu option(in addition to their larger menu) that is excellent. Tonight was a fried chicken dinner ($34) with mashed potatoes, collard greens, biscuit, gravy, tea/coffee and choice of dessert. It definitely wasn't your basic chicken. It was tender, juicy, flavorful and amazing. Gotta have their house made hot sauce too! Apple pie w/ cheddar was the bomb! House made tea blend was great / special coffee was flavorful and unique. We shared the pre fixe plus a salad (also shared and excellent) + elk aguachiles for the table. We were stuffed! They have a great beverage menu as well. Wine on tap offers a great value. Had a $18 1/2 liter carafe which equaled about 1.5-2 glasses each. Finally, their service. Our server, Clinton, was attentive and above & beyond knowledgeable. My mother in law has some dietary restrictions and he went over nearly item in the menu to explain what would and wouldn't work. Great personality and on top of his game! So I'm thinking Dai Due might be my new fav Austin eatery. Fabulous flavors, excellent beer and wine and perfect service plus we brought home venison sausage to grill tomorrow and strawberry and pecan croissants for breakfast. We had grilled sourdough pecan bread with cane syrup whipped lard for a delicious app. My wife had the meat plate with a variety of delicious samples and homemade bread. I had the steak and fried oysters in a sauce of brandy, cream and spring onions. The steak was delicious, melt in my mouth tender n juicy and the fried oysters were the best I ever had. For dessert carrot cake (my wife is telling me our waitress said pumpkin squash cake when she brought it) and amazing coffee with all types of flavors including cinnamon. Great local place for some quality meat. My friend brought me here and we couldn't resist the porterhouse, it was pricey at $140 but it was cooked perfectly and super tasty. Everyone working was super friendly and helpful. I loved the atmosphere with the open grills which added an awesome flavor. I love this place. I love it so much. I love the concept, I love the food, I love the beer, there's nothing I don't like. Service is always friendly and fast. I've sat at the bar and in the restaurant before. While seated at the bar, the bartender obligingly answered all my questions about the restaurant and its history. The owner and his wife used to do a stall at the farmer's market, and Dai Due was born from that. They sell things like venison, wild hog and other local Texas game, along with locally grown and hand pickled vegetables. Get the pickled carrots, you won't regret it. I came here for lunch a few months ago as my first meal after moving to Austin. I was immediately impressed by the uniqueness of the menu offerings. A friend and I split the Centex mezze and were impressed to find so many international spreads on the platter. So many that we, with over two decades of combined experience in the restaurant industry, had to ask what some of them were. There was nothing on the platter that we didn't enjoy. I got a dish that I liken to a pot pie with antelope and vegetables that I found to be delicious. I had never had antelope, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was not at all disappointed. The dish tasted incredible and was seasoned perfectly. I'm a little disappointed that I don't see it on their menu right now because I'd love to go back for it. The service was fantastic. Our server was extremely friendly, didn't mind the half dozen questions we asked her, and was very knowledgeable of the menu items as well as the techniques utilized by the kitchen. Because the restaurant wasn't terribly busy at the time, she also seemed happy to spend time just having a conversation with us, which was refreshing from a server. I was bummed we couldn't make it here for dinner, but we settled for lunch and .... mind blown. We had the 2 Centix Breakfasts and one pastrami sandwich ... the centix breakfast is a little sample of what this place is all about ... house made bread, homemade orange marmalade, house made venison sausage and bacon, sweet potatoes with homemade beet ketchup, the BEST GRITS EVER (white corn) ... I had the side salad (gluten allergy) with some sort of onion dressing and fresh greens and spring veggies ... The others asked the try the homemade mesquite sourdough, needless to say they took an entire loaf home. I was kind of bummed they only offered Texas wine at first, BUT then I wasn't. They changed out minds on that real quick. The pastrami sandwich had homemade sauerkraut and beet thousand island, not to mention the homemade pickles on the side. The eggs were farm fresh (I am super picky about my eggs) and everything was perfectly salted and peppered. The service was amazing ... our server brought us a taste of just about every white wine on the menu before we decided. She also let the table try a slice of the bread (no charge ... probably bc she knew we would buy the entire loaf). The atmosphere was so cool and they had a back patio. They serve a brunch style menu every day until 3:00 pm (not too breakfast-y and lunch options). Would go back in a heartbeat. read more

The burger, which is only offered Tuesday nights, is heaven. The bun to patty ratio is perfection. The beet ketchup which accompanies a side of fries is phenomenal and I think all restaurants should ditch the red sauce in lieu of the root veggie concoction. Be mindful that the burger has a pork in it, but I think that's what makes it one of the best burgers I've ever had. I am counting the days until crawfish season arrives. Last season, I tried a handful of restaurants serving the seasonal mudbugs but found that Dai Due's was far superior. While many establishments are a little heavy handed with the Old Bay seasoning, Dai Due creates their own spicy blend and cautiously seasons their crustaceans. I've had two of their seafood Supper Club meals which is moderately priced and can easily be shared amongst three people (it's billed on the menu for two). Skip this. Visit the restaurant on a night they serve their seafood chowder. The bowl is filled with fresh seafood and topped with a slice of bread and homemade aioli that is to. die. for. Sadly, it's not offered everyday so call the restaurant before you stop in. Also, do not mistaken the seafood chowder for the oyster chowder because you will be sadly disappointed. If you accidentally order the oyster chowder, don't plan on kissing anyone unless that person loves garlic. Dai Due has some great Happy Hours. I like to frequent the cozy restaurant during Blue Crab season when they are only $5 during HH. The mudbugs are $10/ lb during HH. The seafood chowder and the burger are the reasons Dai Due gets 5 stars. While the rest of the menu is tasty, they are not as memorable nor do they hold a candle to the aforementioned dishes. Also, Tracy has been our server the last three times I visited and she is wonderful. She remembers my drink order and how I like my burger cooked. While all the servers are lovely, Tracy seems to be the most outgoing and friendly. read more

Everything is delicious. Love that they have high standards for their ingredients, and it shows in their food. My favorite is probably the boar lettuce wraps or the rueben. Good. Not great. $35 for supper club fried chicken, mashed sweet potatoes and collard greens. Should have been $18 or less. This dish was not bad. But nothing to write home about. i would never order it again. Wild boar in broth was pretty good but still nothing to write home about and its not good enough to bring me back to this restaurant.
