    The story of my beer
    Mark S.

We were visiting the South Congress area of Austin and wanted a quick and good meal in a place where there was a wide selection. Joanne's Fine Food was exactly what we were looking for. The restaurant is a funky diner, boasting indoor and outdoor seating. Not wanting a huge meal I opted for a three egg omelette with chorizo covered in a salsa Verde. Came with a side of refried beans that were terrific. Rather than the typical brown beans, these refried beans were made with black beans and were tasty and smooth. It was absolutely delicious. If you know real chorizo, then you know it must be oily and this chorizo was just that. It blended beautifully with the egg and the salsa. My wife opted for a simple taco, she wanted a veggie, and she got what she ordered. It was simply delicious. All the flavors were spot on. I enjoyed a regional beer with my meal while my wife had a glass of vegetable juice. Everything was as ordered, and as expected, and delivered from a waiter who was kind, funny, and engaging. I can't think of any reason to rate Joanne's anything other than five star based on this visit.

Great food and great service! I really enjoyed the rice bowl with chicken. The ambiance was great and unique.

Tasty spot that felt like a trip back in time. We enjoyed breakfast tacos, pancakes, etc. Strawberry danishes were a hit! Service was friendly but not super attentive. Ambience was fun and retro, booths were fun but a bit cumbersome to get in and out of.

My mom was in town so I brought her here for a quick bite while we explored south congress. Overall I think our experience was good, not great. We sat inside and at that time, the noise level is just really high for a small space. The food we ordered was good but just expect to be paying south congress prices.

Super cute restaurant with creative and flavorful dishes. I stopped in here to avoid the rain and ordered some appetizers off the happy hour menu. The guacamole was to die for and the chips that came with it were delicious. I would highly recommend this spot. Service was friendly and quick.

While visiting Austin with My family, we got really hungry and just went to the closest restaurant we found that was walking distance, which was Joann's fine foods. I honestly was not impressed at all. It's Tex Mex fyi. I ordered the chicken rings taco combo. The flavor was decent but definitely nowhere near being considered "Mexican". Their fresh juices are good, the place itself is very retro/diner vibes. Service was ok. Overall, ok experience. Probably won't return.

Hello Patio Weather Season!? -ish..... Apparently my husband has been waiting all year for the polenta to come back onto the menu. Combine that with a random cool brisk day in ATX and patio here we come. We came for the polenta but got the benefits of trying out some Happy hour bites and bevies. Everything.was.on.point here. Waiter is amazingly on it but not overbearing (iykyk). The polenta was better then remembered and worth the wait. We ordered one but had to order another because the whole table couldn't get get enough of this goodness. The depth of flavor, the quality of ingredients just sells itself. This is a must try guys. Catch ot while it's still in season. Also another star of the show is their Tommy Marg. It's hit or miss what a $5 marg might get you but let me tell you - the freshness of this marg I cannot stop dreaming about. This is a place we could frequent for sure.

extraordinarily salty chicken fried steak and salty green beans and salty hash browns lol

The ambiance and service were great, but I was there to try the chicken fried steak because it had made a local list of good ones. And unfortunately it was one of the saltiest plates of food I've ever had. I'm not a low sodium person. I keep minimum 3 kinds of salt at home and cook with salt and I salt to taste and I get salt on my marg rims and finish them but daaaaang was it a salty plate of food. Meat was good quality even, but I couldn't get past how salty everything was. It's been hours and I'm still thirsty after.

Love Joann's! We ubered since parking is tough on South Congress. We started with chips, queso, guac, + salsa. Their queso is unique and comes with a soy chorizo which was great. We shared the steak and chicken fajitas which came with queso fundito. Fajitas was amazing just a little too greasy in my opinion but still 5 stars! Staff was super nice and attentive the whole time. I also loved their Tommy's margarita. Perfect amount of sweetness.

Fan-tas-tic. I see why this place is so popular! I got the Bodega Breakfast Sando and it was perfect. Each component complimented each other perfectly. Great taste and portion size. I did not feel heavy after (which is essential for post-meal shopping on SoCo!) My friend got the hashbrown nachos for the table. I didn't realize it till after, but it didn't come with chips! Clearly, they didn't need them and I didn't miss them. It was super tasty. All you needed was a spoon! The atmospherics are iconic. I love the old school diner feel. They have a decent amount of seating for groups. Good amount of both indoor and outdoor seating.

    Salsa, French Fries, Tommy's Margarita

Joann's is a cute Austin classic. We stopped in for Happy Hour and really enjoyed the margaritas! The fries and salsa were good too. However - the salsa was the only appetizer NOT included in the Happy Hour menu, which was not made indicated anywhere on the menu or made clear until after we ordered.

I had previously tried to go to the Burnet Road location but they were PACKED on a Saturday night with a 90 minute wait but this time I called ahead to the the Parmer Lane location around 5:30 pm and put my name in. The Tex-Mex dishes felt slightly elevated compared to some other places and I love that they are locally owned and operated. They can be busy but it's worth waiting if you plan ahead and have the time!

For our entrées, we had Brian's Alambre Plate, the Chicken Mole, and the Line Cook's Snack Plate. Brian's Alambre Plate combines sirloin, pork pastor, house-made chorizo, and bacon with peppers, onions, and melted Jack cheese. It was good and certainly offers plenty of variety and flavor. For my personal taste, though, if I am primarily craving meat, I prefer Eldorado's Carne Guisada. There is nothing wrong with the Alambre, I just think the Carne Guisada is the stronger choice for me. The Chicken Mole is my wife's favorite, and unfortunately it is only offered as a special late on Thursdays. The house-made mole has a rich, distinctive flavor that works very well with the chicken, and it is easy to understand why she looks forward to it. The Line Cook's Snack Plate was also a great combination with two flautas, a choice of Chicken Caldo or Texas Red, Eldorado rice, and guacamole salad. It is a nice option when you want a little bit of several things rather than one large entrée. Overall, another very enjoyable meal at Eldorado Cafe. Good food, plenty of variety, and enough different flavors on the menu that everyone can find a favorite. We certainly have ours!

Both incredible and not too hot. I had the sirloin tampiqueño. I have never tasted steak so flavorful in my lifetime. Addictive and so tender and beautifully seasoned I couldn't even speak except for the mmmmm's... don't let the thin slice fool you. It was incredible!!! We also got the Friday night special Saudero taco on the HOMEMADE buttery delicious flour tortilla. Again the steak pieces in there were fantastic. The regular picadillo crispy taco was probably the best I've ever had. Homemade deep fried thick shells. Margaritas were expensive and small, but done RIGHT. Sam made them by hand not from a mix. It's a good balance because the food is FAIRLY PRICED!!! I am completely spoiled now and probably will just come here from now on. Next it's time to taste those great looking enchiladas!!!

I tried the orange habanero and creamy serrano salsas. The habanero was spicy off the bat, while the serrano had more of a lingering burn. Both paired well with the steak.
