From the parking garage, you meander through the hotel to the casual restaurant make a left turn, which takes you through a restaurant food court that leads you to Garrison. It is almost like a treasure hunt. We ordered 7oz Texas Wagyu Petite Tender and Seremoni Black Cod*cod for dinner with the associated vegetables. While the food is very good, the portion size is small. So do not come ravenous or you will end up spending quite a lot of money. We've been coming to Garrison for nearly four or five years now, basically since the early days when Chef Jakub was just getting started. What originally brought us in? A few extremely convincing photos of truffle tater tots. That alone was enough to lock us in for life. Over the years, we've celebrated milestones here and watched the restaurant evolve. Chef Jakub took a short sabbatical at one point, and while the food was still good, it just wasn't Garrison. Now that he's back, it honestly feels like he returned with even more passion than before. The kitchen is firing on all cylinders again. We recently came in for the Valentine's Day prix fixe, kids in tow, and somehow it worked beautifully. The kids loved every moment, and so did we. Favorites this time around were split between the truffle pasta (dangerously good) and the perfectly cooked rib eye, which was executed flawlessly. And then there's David, somehow always our server, and somehow always amazing. He has an incredible instinct for recommending the perfect balance of drinks, reads the table effortlessly, and isn't shy about making things right if something feels even slightly off. That kind of service is rare and makes the entire experience feel relaxed and confident. Side note: whoever the pastry chef is... you are an absolute menace (said with love). First time here and found public parking next to the hotel. I paid just in case, but wasn't sure of the entrance to the restaurant. Thankfully a person saw my group and opened the side door. We checked in for our reservation Saturday evening and it was not overly busy. We were swiftly seated and greeted. Everything was absolutely amazing and perfectly cooked, seasoned, texture variations, visual appeal and color contrast. Art. The food was not too much or too little. It was about a 2 hour experience at our leisure. I'm so glad I chose this place to celebrate as a birthday surprise. I was also surprised by the chefs and service even after my research on this location. Everyone from the front to the back of the house was on point and exceeded my expectations. Start to finish, the meal was excellent, with one slight observation noted below... JR was our server, and he did a great job. Attentive, but not intrusive. Great job leading us through the menu and especially the specialty cocktail selections. Thanks JR, job well done! Our dining "fantasy come true" experience began with cocktails... the Garrison Dirty Martini and a Belvedere Vodka Shot with caviar! Check out the pics, amazing presentation for both. The martini served in a chilled test tube on ice, with castelvetrano olives on a party stick in the glass. The vodka shot with a balanced mother of pearl spoon full of caviar on the top. Great fun, and delicious too! The meal began with a compressed melon amuse-bouche... light and delicious. We had the crispy octopus as an appetizer, and the picanha (steak) and pan roasted grouper as entrees. Both were terrific! One suggestion for the kitchen is to hold off on adding salt to the steak a second time after it is cut, the original salt in the rub on the outside of the steak is enough (for our palates anyway! We know some prefer more salt!). The gruyere black truffle tater tots are to die for...!!! The ordered a bottle of French Chablis to accompany dinner, and it was delightful. The Garrison wine list is a dizzying walk through all varietals, Old and New Worlds, and lots of other stuff tossed in. Any wine buff can find a bottle here, and generally reasonably priced for a downtown lux hotel. I was visiting Austin for work when I happened to find this place near my hotel. Looking back I could not have been any luckier as this overall experience ended up being a Top 3 dining experience of my life. Right from the beginning. (I do recommend making a reservation ahead of time as I did, as the restaurant was very busy). When I first arrived I was guided to my seat that had my name on the table, making you feel like the main guest of the night. As I sat down I was immediately greeted by my server Joel who brought over some complimentary "Welcome Bites" from the chef. As well as their drinks menu that had any and every type of drink you could want. I ended up going with a bottle of wine that Joel recommended. This was fantastic! For Apps I started with their homemade Taters. I didn't think it was possible to elevate taters, until this dish came out of the kitchen. Taters perfectly surrounding a center cheese that was great for dipping. It was delicious! This is a shareable app and I would highly recommend it. My server Joel mentioned that this is a restaurant favorite, which made complete sense after trying it. Food my main course I order the Wagyu Steak and Roasted Potatoes. The steak basically melted in your mouth wanting more after each bite and the sauce with roasted potatoes made for the perfect balance. Being from the Midwest, I have tried a lot of good steaks, but this was perfection. Medium Rare to a T and already pre-cut ready to be enjoyed. Couldn't have asked for a better steak. For Dessert I ordered the Apple Fig Crumble, which was just as good as every other item I had that night. Even their desserts were presented with such detail. Last night my Seattle friends and I dined at Garrison! Amazing meal- incredible! The service was top notch - thank you to Brian, our server and his team. Brian had fantastic recommendations. The mushroom croquettes and grilled oysters were divine. We placed several ordered of the grilled sourdough bread- next level yum! We loved the wagyu beef and black cod entrees, the greens, and mushroom sides. Every bite was special including the chocolate soufflé at the end. It's not often I find myself giving a restaurant 5 stars, but I can't overlook the service that was received when visiting Garrison for the first time. We've lived in Austin long enough to see the Fairmont go up, and even went to the lobby bar and rooftop bar one time for a wedding after party...over 5 years ago. We had no idea there was a food court tucked in the back, and the Garrison tucked even further back as a pleasant surprise. Felt like we were in Epcot or Vegas! Such a fun vibe. Welcomed by Chris, immediately with positive energy and charm. He set the bar high with close attention to detail as he sat us and introduced us to Ayana, who'd serve us for the night. Such a knowledgeable and quality experience we had with her! As she walked us through the menu, we knew almost immediately what to go with (based on her recommendations and detailed descriptions). We were surprised by an opening treat, on the house. A roasted carrot with green goddess sauce. I forgot to ask about the textured garnish. Followed by the BEST dressed oysters in town. Sheesh. Melted in our mouths and did not want to finish up the last one. So glad Ayana suggested this. Definitely recommend. Even if you think you don't like oysters. The main course was the porterhouse with the side of broccoli and bearnaise sauce (creamy goodness), and the go-to tots. The aerated gruyere on top of the tots with ACTUAL shaved truffle? Chef's kiss. Flavor and texture is needed for a full food experience, and the assignment was understood with each course. Yes, you can expect the filet to melt in your mouth, as well. Personally, we believed this was a better steak than a handful of steakhouses in the area...although, there was a few bites that were a bit too salty. Don't skimp on the Souffle for dessert. Make sure to save room, nothing wrong with bringing home leftover steak. You will not regret the Souffle. By this course, it was clear that the intention of the back of house was to serve foods that would melt in your mouth, making it easy for you to have a mouthful of every sense imaginable. Again for $14, it ought to be some outstanding bread making, but I can't say anything that positive about it Porterhouse: beautiful ingredient, but it wasn't even hot when it was served -- it was actually almost room temperature but we had waited so long and were so frustrated by then that we just ate it Duck: if the duck is smoked and served room temperature, then it shouldn't be listed under HOT dishes. Because that came as a surprise, and not a welcome one. The restaurant on Thu 10/2 was 90% vacant, so one simply can't explain this lackluster of execution across the board. Management has clearly taken its eye off the ball, or moved on. Which explains the high vacancy of tables. The amarone was excellent and fairly priced. There were no later reservations available than 6pm, and I was curious to the cause but it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Sat at the counter for a view of the kitchen goings on. Jasper was our waiter and he provided exceptional service- very knowledgeable and attentive! The space is dark and cozy, but the focus is on the food and service. The tots were amazing. Get that and the biscuits + honey butter and whatever else would be considered a successful meal. I was so so on the duck. I apparently am not a fan of duck and will prefer to keep them in a pond. It was well prepared, but the meat is not for my taste. My friend's chicken was excellent! The hasselback potato and broccoli sides were ok. Wow wow wow. Garrison served us one of the best meals I've had in Austin. I was very impressed with the drinks, the food, and the service. The restaurant itself is super cute with nice lighting, comfy chairs, and an open kitchen. Our server, Jasper, was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the entire meal. We tried the Antiquity and Tequila Tonic cocktails, both of which were really good. We also each had a glass of wine recommended by Jaspar. The wines went perfectly with our meal and the flavor we were hoping to have. We split the beef tartare, smoked potato pierogi, crispy octopus, pan roasted grouper, and tater tots. The beef tartare had some kind of crispy component on top that gave it a fun texture. The pierogi was cooked nicely with perfect smoked flavor. The octopus was easily the best octopus we've had in Austin. It was crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. Went to Garrison for our anniversary last night - what a wonderful experience from beginning to end! Upon entering, our celebration was acknowledged by the first three people with encountered and with a glass of champagne which is always a great way to start a meal. Our server, JR, was very helpful when answering our questions and guiding us to some of the best items for our evening. Appetizers - we ordered Crispy Octopus & Beef Tartare. Both preparations veered away from the traditional way that you see them offered and were quite delicious. As a treat, we received two of the Smoked Oysters to pair with the champagne as well. All three dishes are things I would order again. Dinner - We split the Porterhouse & ordered a side of the Tater Tots. The steak was cooked to perfection, and my only "meh" was that the plate sauce kind of overwhelmed some of my bites. The Tots are a must order in my opinion - the aerated gruyere & black truffle add such indulgence to the cubes of potato. Overall, I count this as a restaurant that we will return to in the future. absolutely amazing service on top of fabulous food. So rarely do you get these two dimensions coming together in one place. An example of fantastic service is the fact that the servers and staff remembered our names and continued to address us by first name. I was also taking aback when the staff took my purse, which was sitting on the ground and put it onto a purse hanger without my notice. Such attention to detail... The two bottles of wine we ordered were absolutely amazing and they took careful concern to continue to fill our wine glasses as the night went on. We had visited Garrison's a few years back and had not been overly excited about the experience. It is located in downtown Austin in the Fairmont Hotel. If you haven't been there, you should take a look. They offer complimentary valet parking for up to 4 hours as well. A friend of ours was in town and suggested we revisit the restaurant - so we did. When we arrived the staff greeted us courteously, and we requested a seating at the counter overlooking the kitchen. We proceeded to order appetizers, our main course and drinks to complement the meal. Well, this time was WAY DIFFERENT. We had oysters, tater-tots, octopus and salads to start, followed by steak and a couple of fish options, mushrooms, and finally a few dessert options to round out the experience. This gem is set back deep inside the Fairmont - without direct street access, so many probably pass it by. Meander through the lobby, lobby bar, a simulated downtown area food court and walk up onto a porch and through the facade of a Texas farmhouse. The theme of the menu is "smoked" and the restaurant has little built-in coves all around with Bastrop firewood. The service was great - definitely more of the upscale vibe, but minus the attitude - basically they'll give you a taster/present your wine, but not judge you if you can't name the notes... Tell you about the specials, but not judge if you ask the portions are decent. The perfect ATX vibe. And the portions are decent! We debated the size of the portions and if we were over or under-ordering when we saw "scallop" printed singularly on the menu...Would the salad be two artistically placed pieces of lettuce? We were pleasantly surprised that even though the pricing is definitely a $$$ experience - the portions actually felt worth the cost without sacrificing flavor and we left full. The salad was a packed local leaf lettuce that four of us shared! The hasselback side potato was served with both halves (so fluffy with amazing "loaded" drizzle). The leek tart was enough to share as a side (and so freaking good). And the fish and poultry we're all appropriately plated. It all was delicious. The chef sent over some little nomz to start and I was a vegetarian in a steakhouse and I ate the best smoked cabbage I've ever tasted. They brine it in olive oil for hours and serve with vegan aioli. The rolls were so magical...don't skip the yeast rolls. My partner got the barbecued grouper and it was so moist and had great flavor. We were too full to try their desserts but the staff brought us housemade chocolates and passion fruit candies to end our meal. Our only criticism (if this even counts) is we wanted at least one more clear alcohol option on the highlighted drink menu that had some fruit or herb notes. My partner got a delicious gin & tonic, but I was looking for a slightly sweet infused vodka drink. Great service, great food, and great location for special occasions or just dinner. We came to Garrison for our 22 Anniversary and thought it would be nice to come back again for 25 years. Garrison did not disappoint. Ambience: This restaurant is located in the fabulous Fairmont Hotel. Such a lovely restaurant tucked away in the back. We made reservations online the night before. This restaurant does require to give a credit card and if you cancel 24 hours before, you are charged $50 no show/cancel fee per person. This is not a big restaurant and I understand. I did ask for a table that was private on the reservation so that we could be away from people. Garrison did not disappoint. Service: Everyone is so attentive. From the hostess that greeted us, our server, and even the manager came over to say hello and check on this. Chris, great crew of employees you have! We met the chef too, nice guy. Drinks: We were greeted with complimentary champagne. It was delicious, bubbly, and refreshing. My husband ordered an old fashion with rye. It was very nice. Food: The chef gave us a starter item that was complimentary. It was a bitesize morsel that as soon as I ate it, it took me back to Vienna. It gave me memories of standing in the snow waiting in line to get a Vienna sausage with German bread and mustard. Absolutely delicious! The flavor, textures, and just the crunch in a small bite. We ordered the smoked potato pierogi for appetizers. I just wish there was an even number so that we did not have to split the last one. I took a bite and the smell, the flavors, the texture of the dough took me back to when we were in Warsaw. The chef captured two of our past vacation in two dishes. The pierogi was soft and creamy potato filing with a hint of smoke with the chewiness of the dough and the light pan sear, just perfection. For my main dish, I got the smoked duck breast. It was served alongside raddico and a wonderful sauce that complimented the duck. The raddicio was crunchy with no bitterness. The sauce was sweet and savory, the duck was cooked perfectly. Loved it very much. We were given some complimentary dessert to finish our meal. The chewy gummy piece was creative, unique, and pretty to look at with good quality ingredients. I prefer chocolate so I ate this piece first. The chocolate was over the top delicious. What a flavor to end with after spectacular dinner. Shockingly and unjustifiably overpriced. The dishes took a long time to come out, including what should have been a salad with fresh greens but had wilted greens. Other dishes were over salted. Total disappointment that left me feeling hungry and like I was ripped off. read more

Who knew such a gem was located inside a hotel in Austin? Garrison has been in my bookmarks for a long time, and my friend and I finally made the trek. The service is spectacular and unparalleled, and everything we tried was phenomenal. The interior of the restaurant is very vibey and unlike any other restaurant in Austin that I've tried. Their bread? So buttery and soft. We also ordered their black truffle tots, which was so good I had to bring some back to my roommates for them to sample as well. A fan favorite all around. Our entrees were delicious (chicken and lamb, I believe). We ordered souffle for dessert, and it was actually my first time trying souffle. I also highly recommend. Overall, a really solid choice for a date night or if you just feel like splurging on some really yummy food. I would definitely come again. read more

We skipped the Valentines Day crowd and pre-fixe menu to come on Thursday (2/17) and what an excellent decision. *blows hot air on nails to wipe on shirt* First, our waitress was incredible. All the wait staff was really friendly. My guy got up to use the mens room and left his napkin on the table. Our waitress came over, folded it, and gently placed it back on the table. Soon after she did that, another waiter came by and completely replaced it with a better folded napkin. Little things like that really let you know you're bound for a special evening. We got an amuse bouche from the chef which was a nice surprise, and always welcomed! One was a chickpea panisse with aioli that completely melted in my mouth -- reminded us both of an Indian dish we love at a local restaurant. The other was a profiterol with fois gras and a cassis reduction... a perfect pastry. Then we ordered the tuna crudo and the sourdough. The bread and butter was so GD good. We were advised to wait for the ice to melt on the crudo. This crudo was so rich in color, I couldn't take my eyes off it. Just spectacular, and a little spicy, too. We ordered the black truffle tots, something I knew we'd order strictly based on reviews. This dish is worth the price. Chef is NOT stingy on truffles AT ALL. It came out piping hot and we could not shut up about it after we left. Do not come here and NOT get this dish. Then we shared the branzino (head off). It was so delicate and tasted incredible. The staff warned us that because we ordered head off, there could be bones near the neck; there were, but we didn't mind and appreciated the warning. Then I ordered dessert based on a recommendation by the waitress. I loved the ice cream and fresh grapefruit, but didn't particularly care for the sorbet, it was too sour. I was still really excited about the presentation. The waitress then gave us chocolate and some fruit gummies. She made a joke that they were each 10mg, and my boyfriend and I busted out laughing. We want to come back and request her to be our waitress. She was simply outstanding; transparent and cool, really good at just being herself. We loved you Haley and can't wait to come back! 2022 1st Review! Small scale restaurant, big bold flavor, and creative menu that worth Michelin stars recognition. I would like to dedicate my first review of the year to Garrison! It's definitely one of my favorite meals since pandemic! Thank you Frances T. for recommendation. Forget waiting in line for all the bbq places around town. Garrison is the best meal I had in Austin. Location: it's inside of the Fairmont hotel on the first floor. Before you find Garrison all the way in the back, there is a bar surrounded by food court kind of setting. Atmosphere: it's low key, casual, but upscale at the same time. I do not see they enforce any dress codes here. Come as you are, dress up and down. Open kitchen setting makes the restaurant very warm and welcoming. Service: (5/5) our server David is very attentive and very knowledgeable with the dishes. Since we have been drinking quite a bit before the New Years. We asked for tea service instead of any alcohol, and he recommended the Ontario ice wine tea. It was delicious! I also loved my creamy early grey too. Food: (5/5) for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, they only have prix fixe menu. We were so glad we were able to try the tasting menu. I enjoyed almost everything. Can't say that about all the tasting menus I've had. This tasting menu is better than some of the Michelin starred restaurants I've been to. Chef was very generous with the foie gras tart. It was delicious. I also loved the oyster with hibiscus Yuzu sauce. Wagyu beef tartare was seasoned very well. I really loved the smoked butternut squash pasta dish, squash pansotti. The Ingredients was smoked and flavored perfectly. I also love the grilled lettuce with the smoked flavor. Bf said the rib eye cap was one of the best steaks he had. I agreed the steak was prepared and seasoned very well. I was very very full by the time I finished the steak since everything was Texas size lol! Good thing there's only one dessert on this tasting menu, burnt cake. It's made pretty well without being too sweet which is right up my alley. Although the dessert was not as memorable as other dishes. Lastly, they gave us the parting gifts. I always enjoy this thoughtful thing that restaurants do. We had the cake next morning for breakfast which was perfect! Every meal here is a work of art with incredible taste. A favorite is the octopus as well as the vegetable crudites with miso dip, both with a gorgeous presentation. They have an assortment of non-alcoholic drinks that pair well with the food and they're always happy to give suggestions. I usually eat pescatarian but had lamb and steak here too and I recommend both and well, EVERYTHING! The environment is upscale yet cozy and friendly, with an open kitchen and some of the best seats watching the cooking and plating. This is the kind of place you can go dressed up or in jeans and feel right at home. Great for a date night, business meal, or fun with friends. Solo dining is welcome! read more

We had reserved the new year eve dinner some months ago with wine pairing for a juicy price of 756$ for two. When arriving, we were told that the wine pairing was not included in our reservation. After showing them the confirmation email, they noticed a problem in their system. Maybe, but anyway, it wasn't a good start. The food was excellent, no complaints about it, but some of the wine pairing were not the best choice IMHO. The service was decent but we had no time between the course to enjoy the moment. 6 courses in 2 hours is a bit too fast for us. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner, and the food and service were top notch. The house martini is served is cold and in a glass vial tube. Only downside was our reservation seating wasn't on time, and we didn't get sat until about 20-30 minutes after arrival. Not a big deal, but if we're dropping the money on a top notch experience, would be nice to only have a short wait with a reservation. Nonetheless, we'll be back for the solid food! read more
