Today was my first time at the Daily Dozen in Royal Oak. Such a great place! They have a great assortment but you better get there early because this place is super popular. I came at 12:30 and they were 75% out of everything. I had a chocolate frosted doughnut and it was delicious. The girl was so nice she threw in a couple doughnut holes for me to try. This is what donuts are supposed to be. Outstanding, delicious, and creative. Here's the thing: A few years ago, some places started getting REALLY creative with donuts (Hi, Voodoo- you're still incredible). What some places don't understand is that creativity isn't any good when it's at the expense of an enjoyable donut (I'm looking at you, donut bar). Having the same yeast-raised donut with your choice of 5 different types of pop-tarts mashed onto the top doesn't make for a good time. Daily Dozen gets this balance SO correct. Unique an interesting donuts along-side the standards. They're ALL delicious. My personal favorite are the dippers. Probably the simplest one on the menu, but just like a Margherita is a good gauge of how good a place's pizza will be, the dipper's crunch exterior, cakey deliciousness inside, and perfection with a cup of coffee is indicative of how good a job these folks seem to do with everything else they touch. On top of that, you can count on whomever is helping you to be genuinely pleasant and helpful. I've found that to be both pleasant and..you know..helpful. read more

This place exemplifies what I want in a small, stand-alone doughnut shop. I started coming here about 4 months ago after doing a google search to see if there were any other shops on Woodward other than Donut Cutter (another place my family frequents). When I saw that this place was only about a mile away from where I currently was I had to check it out. I now go about once or twice a week on my way home from work and I'm assuming the man and woman who work there are the owners (married??? idk), who are both very nice. Wide selection of doughnuts not only by flavor, but by type as well ex. yeast raised, cake, mini-fritters(they call them Moon Rocks) and cake sticks (I'm pretty sure they use the same recipe for their stick as they do for the sour cream which has always been a favorite of mine so that's another +). They have many mainstays but also have a few that seem to get switched in and out regularly so you don't always see the same thing every time you walk in. On one occasion, may have been on my second visit, I order 3 doughnuts, may have been a sour cream, a jelly stick(raspberry jelly) and a double chocolate. Guy said he wanted me to try one of their Moon Rocks and just tossed one in for free. Another time I raised an eyebrow when I saw doughnut called "Dutch Crumb". It was a cake doughnut with a brown-ish powdered coating on it. I asked if he could describe the taste to me. Instead of doing that, he just went to where they have the doughnut holes and pulled one out that was the same type and just let me eat it for myself. Very cool people, very easy to talk to, lots of cool murals on the walls. Would easily be a 5 star if parking were easier, it can be a struggle sometimes to get in the small lot they are in and not feel like you are holding Woodward traffic that's trying to go 50mph. read more

Donuts were great but beware if you don't go early morning to the Woodward location you are left with very little options. We had these donuts at a wedding and feel in love and said we had to take the trip out to try a different donut. When we arrived it was all picked over. It was than that we learned this wasn't their main location and that they aren't actual made there they are brought over from their other location. Was disappointed by that since we made a 45 minute trip out but next time we will make sure we go to the right location. read more

After having a hankering for donuts for a few days, I decided to just give in. I read about them in an article about them being a new RO business, and I was sold. I tried a plain French crueller and a blueberry cake donut. To be honest, I rarely have donuts and it has been a while since I had one. However, the glazed blueberry cake donut was so good. It was pretty sweet, but you can taste blueberries in every bite. I liked the French crueller too, but the blueberry donut stole the show for me. I don't know how much donuts are going for these days, but donuts are about $1.25 each I believe. I don't know how often I will go on account of trying to be healthy, but if I have a donut craving, you better believe I will be there! read more

It's hard to be a great donut shop around here because there's a really good classic place just down the road. But Daily Dozen manages to be on par plus some really nice creative donuts too.
