Wasn't the greasy burger places as promised. Food was very close to what you get a Jack in The Box just slightly better. The staff was friendly but nothing about the cheeseburger, fries and coke was memorable. I do like that it's local and I'll keep supporting it. In the end it just left me meh. read more

We came here on a rainy day when the river just wasn't a good option. You can tell it is a local burger joint so we were glad we choose it rather than Chili's. I ordered the chix sandwich on jalapeno sourdough bread and the husband ordered the jalapeno burger. The only bad choice we made was not to get his burger on the jalapeno sourdough bread. This place has been around for a really long time, something like the 1960s. Anytime I've been there I've gotten one of two things. The jalepeno cheeseburger on the jalepeno sourdough bread, or the grilled chicken sandwhich. Both are amazing! This place does look like a hole in the wall but it's the best kind. I am thankful there are good, old fashioned burger places like Dairy Bar still around. While I'm not usually a burger-and-fries kind of girl, their jalapeño burger where they cook the jalapeños in between two homemade patties hits the spot when I'm craving a burger. Plus, the place is always spotlessly clean and that's more than I can say for most chain burger places. I'm a huge fan of their hand-dipped corndogs, and you can order your tator tots with ooey gooey orange nacho cheese sauce, which isn't exactly health food, but it does make for a perfect order of tator tots with cheese. Steer clear of their fries, though, as those are the garden-variety frozen crinkle cut type. read more

After reading the reviews, I had high expectations. I think they were too high. I had hoped for a true homemade burger and onion rings. The onion rings were ok. The breading was very thick. The cheeseburger was ok. The steak fingers were over cooked because the meat and bread separated. Everything seemed to lack flavor today. The service was good and they were very nice. read more

Not the prettiest place to dine in but the quality of their food is much more superior to other places who offer "fast food" fare. The time to receive your order may take a bit longer than other places you can buy a burger and fries, but who would complain that their food is made to order and hasn't just been sitting there waiting for you? I grew up in this area before leaving for college, and not returning for 35 years. We didn't have a bunch of chain fast food places back then and I assumed that all of them were like this Dairy Bar. Definitely not so, as I learned over the years. I've enjoyed coming to this restaurant again. I've never ordered anything but burgers and fries here because I love them. They have honest-to-goodness milk shakes and malts. After eating at Five Guys and In-N-Out many, many times on business trips, they are good but certainly no better than this hometown restaurant. I don't come here a lot because I don't eat burgers and fries that often, but when I want them, this is the place. read more

I started going to the Dairy Bar when I was knee high to a toad. I am a grown woman now. When I visit Texas, The Dairy Bar is where I get my down home fix. I love the Jalapeno Cheeseburger! Perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. The fries are hot and crispy, no soggy limp potato strings served at the Dairy Bar... The chocolate milk shake is thick, creamy and has a real chocolate flavor. Not a watered down version of vanilla icecream with choc flavoring like you get a Micky D's. My sisters favorite snack from the Dairy Bar is their Frito Pie...YUMMMM Not so sure but I think they might have invented it. Last time I visited, the Owner stopped by my table to make sure I liked my food. She was concerned that I had not eaten all of my burger. I could only laugh because it was soooooo delectible! I assured her that the only reason there was anything left is because the burger was so HUGE. Great service and great food. I look forward to my next trip to Texas. read more
