This off-the-main-road diner has lots to offer. The food is great (best-fried catfish and fried shrimp) locally. the menu also has great selections including some Asian choices like Pad Thai, a favorite of mine. On a sunny day, you may see many airplanes taking off and landing as this is a favorite fly-in lunch and supper stop. The wait staff is polite and efficient. Flew in expecting very average food. However, the food was delicious and the service was great. When in doubt I always fall back to the basic hamburger and fries. It did not disappoint and was better made than many places. The burger was very large and the accoutrements were fresh and ample, even including sliced jalapenos as normal. The bun was toasted, which to me is a big plus. I ate outside under the covered patio. The cook/owner came out and greeted folks. The waitresses were attentive and happy to see everyone there. We all started out with a good salad and then I ordered fried shrimp and catfish on a bed of french fries. This place is great! We fly in sometimes and other times we drive in on our way to go fishing at the coast. The food is really good quality and reasonably priced. I usually get the grilled shrimp with rice and veggies and it's super tasty and fresh. They've had a lull in business with the road construction making it harder to get to the airport off of 288, but I think the construction is over. read more

What a wonderful restaurant! We've been going for the past couple of years and it's always a good experience. Today we went on a sunny Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of airplanes coming and going for lunch. I had a catfish plate and my wife had a burger. Both were fantastic. This is a great little restaurant. We landed at the airport in Angleton yesterday and the restaurant is on the runway. There were probably seven or eight small aircraft parked out front doing the same thing we were doing. We had a great lunch and I must say I would definitely order the hamburger again. FYI: Only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because I have not yet tried food since the newer owner has been in charge. John was owner years ago when I served there. I am glad to see this restaurant at Brazoria County Airport is still around! I used to work there in 2006 under a owner by name of John. It was good food, but I only ate lunch items since it was free to staff. I was in college on a budget. Lol. Jump to 2021...Anyways, my parents live in Lake Jackson Buffalo Camp area, which is great location to this cafe/restaurant, especially if you want to have a couple of drinks or have "had" a couple of drinks. Lol. Actually this place is perfect location from mall, HWY 288, Angleton, HWY 332 and definitely Lake Jackson! I'm not sure if this place serves beer/wine or BYOBor corkage fees... Christmas 2020 my parents and I were going to go there for dinner. I live in Sacramento now and have not been here or ate here since 2006 when I was a server. I was so glad to see how amazing the Yelp reviews are to this day! I wish we would have gone because my parents say their food is really good. Something else must have came up. I like the fusion of cuisines they have. Being in Sacramento, we are blessed to have so much ethnic restaurants. It will be a nice change to visit Runway Cafe, while in town and get all that under one roof I heard the owner is so nice. Also the food pics look great. This is a diamond in the rough kinda place. We stopped in last trip from Galveston for lunch and was pleasantly surprised how good the food was and how much fun it was. The very nice owner came out and talked to us. We had some great conversations with a few pilots. We totally enjoyed the place and watching the planes take off and land! Found this place using Yelp reviews. We were out driving for the day looking forward potential properties and were starving. Saw this place listed at the airport and couldn't pass it up. My husband is an aircraft maintenance technician and planes are his thing. We were greeted by friendly wait staff and told we could sit where ever we chose. The have a great patio that is right by the runway. Planes of customers coming to eat parked along the side like a parking lot. Waitress came out and asked what we liked to drink. I said tea and without missing a beat she said, plain, sweet, or half and half? Loved that she offered half and half. It was exactly what I love. The menu was full of options. We started out with the shrimp wraps. The outside had such a nice crunch and a large shrimp inside. We had read that the burgers were really good so that is what we ordered. While we waited for our food the owner came out to say hello. He's had the restaurant for 6 years but came from Cambodia in 1980. He absolutely loves what he does and shared that joy with us through his food. The menu offered seafood, burgers, soups,salads, and oriental cuisine. Food came out in a timely manner and did not disappoint. The burger was the star and delicious!and it was so good my husband said he could eat another, but we were full. By the time I remembered to take a picture of my plate I had already spread my fries out and put my burger together. I like that the veggies come on the side and a plus were the jalapeños they toss in. While we were enjoying our meal there were several planes coming in. This airport cafe has potential to be totally rockin. It seems to miss the mark just a bit. The problems are almost always service related. An unfriendly or slow server, or delivering the wrong food to the wrong person at the table. We only had a couple of minor glitches today so I'm not complaining. What I like: The view is really nice on a beautiful sunny day as small aircraft come and go at this county regional airport. The wall facing the runway is all windows and the outdoor seating has recently been upgraded to include additional seating with pub tables. I can see myself sitting outside enjoying a Diet Coke once Spring arrives. The owner also owns Baytown Seafood. He recently did away with the small paper menus designed for the Runway Cafe and has replaced them with his full restaurant menu. It would be nice to see the menu cover replaced to appropriately represent the business. I hope that is in the works. It seems like a small thing but it was a huge topic of conversation at our lunch table. What to watch for: This is a small restaurant and it can take awhile for the kitchen to fill the orders. Business is decent so be sure to visit on a day you have a more flexible schedule... just in case. Today there were seven at our table. Our server was pleasant and attentive. The food was really good, I had shrimp. I'm not crazy about their ranch dressing here, which is very unusual because I'm a ranch dressing girl. I have to catch myself every time I order a salad. The good news is, I love their Honey Mustard dressing. It is made with stone ground mustard and is the right mix of ingredients, not too spicy and not too sweet. The tarter sauce doesn't do it for me here either and I always forget and put it on my plate. Good news is, you don't really need it. I also like that they will let an adult order from the kids menu. The food was decent and portion was good for the price but the whole restaurant was DIRTY! So dirty and disgusting honestly and the servers are literally so lazy. They were sitting down and eating and we had to call for ours when ever we needed something. We got Rose as our server and she looked dirty and nasty like the place. Absolutely, hands down a great cafe. Never once have I had an issue with my food. Egg rolls are like those you order from a Chinese restaurant, which are my favorite! The Caldo de Pescado, Caldo de Marisco, and Caldo de Camarón are the absolute best! All are loaded with fresh fish, shrimp, or seafood (depending on which one you order), and veggies. It's a full meal by itself. The large boiled shrimp make a good appetizer. Fresh, easy to peel, and boiled to perfection. I would also recommend the stuffed mushrooms and shrimp. Runway Café is a true hidden gem in the area. If you are looking for quality food, a family and friends' atmosphere, with an interesting setting then Runway Café is the destination you should save in your phone. The staff is welcoming no matter how busy the restaurant becomes, and the owner is available most of the time, sharing life stories while attending to customers. Each time I have taken my family it has always been a unique experience that my children enjoy mainly because different aircraft are always pulling in for various reasons with majority of the pilots giving tours of their planes if requested. Along with the entertainment and view, "pilots literally park right next to the café" the menu is diverse, and we have yet to not be impressed by anything we order. A daily board of specials for the day are next to the fish tank when you walk in, "another kid magnet" that are really good deals. Steaks are affordable and dishes are multi-cultural ranging from Po Boys, Asian fine dining, and specialties with seafood. My personal favorite is the cheeseburgers something about the bread or seasoning just separates itself from other burgers. Additionally, the café is open later than a majority of sit-down restaurants in the area so if you are looking for a tucked away quiet dining experience with minimal wait times the evening during the week is perfect; and who knows a traveling pilot just may pull in for the night with an exotic classic WWII plane or a nifty jet you haven't seen before. The patio next to the tarmac is simple, yet is accommodating in room, The perfect place to catch a story or socialize with others. Despite the deceptive size of the Runway Café' they are capable of handling catering or events which is an option if you have a large party to host or an event you want to add some spice too. Being next to the tarmac you are more likely to have your party leaving with interesting stories to tell rather than traditional settings that are provided by the franchised competition. If you cannot tell by now, I'm personally bias to the Runway due to never having a negative experience and not being treated like a customer but as an old friend or family member when I walk in. For some the journey to the runway may seem off the beaten path, but for me as I take my family it reminds of the old poem by Robert Frost "The Road Not Taken" and the reward for taking the road less travel because there is no regret that others will have if they do not take the less traveled road to try out the Runway Café. read more
