    The vast menu!

I stopped by here as part of a massive detour caused by the severe flooding in Missouri. What a site for sore eyes! We were just rounding a bend when we saw the dairy barn - a small shack of a building with a tiny lot, white paint flaking off in the ferocious kansas wind, and a doorbell for a drive-thru. Judging by the name, you might assume they only serve ice cream. Don't let that fool you - this place is everything DQ wishes it could be, and more. They have a huge selection- burgers, burritos, funnel cakes, root beer floats, etc. Come with an apatite or you will regret it for the rest of your week. Also, I would like to apologize to the woman who helped us in the drive through. I was so excited to get crinkle cut fries that I cried out when she handed them to me. In the future, I will try and refrain from screaming until all of our windows are rolled up.

It's all delicious! Be prepared to wait if you don't call ahead. It's quite small but definitely one of my favorites.

Normally I don't eat fries, especially crinkle cut, but these are some of the best fries I've ever had!

Oh wow...come on people. Shakers deserves some recognition! It's a small town classic mom and pop…read moregrill. I just can't believe there's only 3 reviews about this place. I'm ready to call Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! I figured Shakers would be the most popular attraction in Mound City, Missouri!! Anyhow...let me give a little info and background on Shakers. I was driving along my cross country road trip through Missouri and was yearning for a homely/informal restaurant that would be popular and authentic to the area. So I Googled "places to eat" in Mound City and Shakers appeared. Then I ventured on over here. Shakers is a little family burger and ice cream joint. They have a menu posted on a board next to the takeout window. Walking up to order...I could just sense whatever I chose was going to be hot and fresh made to order. Shakers is situated just off the main road. I parked in the lot and then strolled over to the front section where they featured picnic tables to sit down and eat at. When I was ready, I just went up to the window to ordered. The menu board was very simple, with cheap prices ranging anywhere from $5 - $10 or so. I'll list the whole menu board right here... - Ice Cream Treats - cups/cones, floats, malts, ice cream shakers, sundaes, flavor bursts, and ice cream specials! - Finger Foods - chicken tenders, popcorn chicken, beer battered shrimp, Buffalo chicken, cheese fries, nachos, mozzarella sticks, French fries, onion rings. - Sandwiches - pork tenderloin, chicken filet, deli turkey, tuna salad, grilled cheese, hot dog, chili dog, hamburger, cheeseburger. - Baskets (served with French fries and Texas toast) - chicken tenders, jumbo popcorn chicken, boneless Buffalo chicken, beer battered shrimp, catfish tenders. Basically, anything and everything you could ask for from a good old fashioned hamburger and hot dog establishment....Shakers featured. Seriously, they cater to the entire family and children. The menu board may appear small in stature, but it's packed with All-American favorites! I ordered an old cheeseburger with onion rings, soda and a large cookie dough shaker. The meal came to around $15 and then I threw a few dollars in the tip jar. I then waited at the picnic table for my order to be called. I was very surprised for the summertime just how quiet it was here, but because of this 2020 pandemic, I guess a lot of people were staying at home. Still, I was just grateful they even let me sit down at the tables because....I was getting quite tired of eating in the front seat of my car for almost every meal along my cross country drive. Another really cool aspect about Shakers is they had a drive-thru. So for those who'd like to take their food "to-go" with them...this was convenient. I maybe waited 10 minutes for my meal. My burger and onion rings came inside of a vintage old fashioned basket. My cheeseburger fresh was right off the grill. It came with lettuce and tomato on a soft bun. The onion rings were out of this world!! They were so hot and crispy straight from the fryer. The onion rings were the star of the meal! And my cookie dough shaker was filled with plenty of cookie dough pieces. For every bit I took...I had a piece of cookie dough in my mouth, lol. The shaker was like a meal in and of itself. Finally, Shakers was such a pleasant surprise on my trek through Missouri. It was a great way to have a no frills type of meal sitting down outside at the picnic tables while enjoying the warm summer weather. This charming family quick-stop grill was the ideal place for that meal I was craving. I highly recommend Shakers to everyone in Mound City. I hope this place is doing okay through the horrible pandemic. I hope Mound City supports them well. I assume the word is out on this place. Just...3 Yelp reviews is shockingly disappointing.

*SUGAR FREE ICE CREAM AVAILABLE HERE YAAAY!*I got to know about Alice Coopers and their delicious…read moreice creams during the Yelp Halloween party. However, the main thing that caught my immediate interest was their sugarfree/keto ice cream (they have one flavor a month) because I'm a diabetic and always on the lookout for sweets with no sugar, and Alice Coopers is honestly one of the very few places in the metro that offers it. Also, my husband is a hardcore rock music lover and so am I (because of him haha), so just hearing the name of the shop already had us excited. It's obviously named after the famous hard rock singer, and the minute we walked in few days back, we loved the whole hard rock band theme around the shop. They have themed Sundaes like Slipknot Sundae, Metallica Sundae and many of the ice cream flavors are named after famous songs. That was a total win for both of us. We instantly became huge fans and will definitely come back to Alice Coopers for our ice cream cravingssss going forward. During this first visit of ours we tried their keto icecream. The flavor of the month was called 'Pecan Sticky Bun' and I got mine with a low-sugar ice cream cone and my husband got the same flavor but as a shake, topped with cream and a cherry. Heyyyy, what else do you need in lifeeee? I was genuinely so happy that I could enjoy ice cream guilt free for once. The shop itself was very cute and decorated with Christmas items. There was an electric fireplace and a small seating area next to a graffiti wall. The ice creams were neatly displayed and the shop overall was very clean and well maintained. The service was good too, and the prices were reasonable. One scoop in a low sugar cone along with a regular size shake came to around $13+. The shop is located inside the beautiful Briarcliff Mall, and the surrounding area is lovely with so many great shops. Grabbing an ice cream here and taking a stroll around the mall afterward honestly feels like the perfect way to end an evening.

It was quite busy when we stopped in nevertheless the staff was very friendly and happy to let us sample flavors before ordering, which I appreciated. The one thing that really stood out was the price ... and not in a good way. We paid $16 for two scoops of ice cream, which felt pretty outrageous for what we got. I truly enjoy supporting local businesses, and I understand that rising costs and high rent can play a role, but it still didn't feel worth it. I didn't rate them too low based on that because they're doing a great job! If you're going for the atmosphere and experience, it could be a fun stop. But if you're thinking about value for money, it may come across as a bit underwhelming.

It has a very different vibe and menu than the other places in town which is a nice switch up but it is outside of the main area of town a bit (still only like a 3-5 minute drive from downtown so not bad at all). The outdoor seating area is quite vast with plenty of room to spread out and get some fresh air when it's nice out! It looks clean but isn't the same home-y spot we all loved. The kicker, though, is they changed the menu boards which now don't tell you what things are and they've like everyone else increased prices of normal items, including items that used to be included. Sandwiches used to come with chips, and now sandwiches are more and the small single size of chips are $4! Apparently they didn't read PepsiCo just missed a billion dollars in sales because they keep raising prices on Doritos. I can see add-ons for high quality products like soup, specialty fries, etc. I also know GDFC has expanded into KC, and I've been and spent healthy money at that luxury spot several times. But c'mon, this is just ludicrous charges at this point. When I realized the chip change, I asked for a refund of those alone, and the new sales terminal system took forever for multiple people to figure out. The manager on duty had to ultimately refund the whole thing, and reorder my entire order, meaning it's now cost all of us money in time. The staff is completely different - there's a chef in the back wearing a white coat like it's fine dining... the rest of the staff is friendly enough, but also not the same level of home we all got used to for many years. My sandwich finally came out, and it looks nothing like what we used to get - the Cuban is on a hoagie style roll. Not even that good anymore. No more winery inside, and limited drink options overall. And no more fresh ice cream, just overpriced "soft serve." I know we're in times that are a'changin... but some of it has gone too far. Hopefully they keep the same level of loyal business I imagine they had before. My loyalty has definitely shifted instantly to once in a while, if that.
