Run... do not walk here. The worst part about this place is that it's closed for a few months in the winter. I have never had a bad experience, and every thing that my family or I have ordered has been fantastic. Not to mention the prices are affordable. My sister-in-law is lactose free- and absolutely craves the dole whip.. sometimes they even have different flavors like orange dole whip! When I try to make it more health, conscious decision ... I say that with the most severe air quotes... I get the hard raspberry chip yogurt and it is unbelievable. It's a dark raspberry, which I'm usually not a fan of but it's unbelievable. The peanut butter iditarod and the grasshopper are also fantastic and they have a new ice cream called gone bananas... I could keep going on... But really you just need to plug it into your GPS and head over there... Stop wasting your time reading my review and give yourself the treat of your own experience . read more

Stopped in for a treat and ended up getting a large raspberry sundae, one of the few places I've found raspberry topping. The soft serve vanilla is very creamy and the topping appeared to be seedless.. It had almost the consistency of raspberry jam and I was concerned it would be too sweet but it wasn't and it complemented the ice cream very nicely. Staff is very friendly and the place looked clean and well organized. There is plenty of on site parking. Most definitely will be a return trip . read more

A local gem in the Windsor locks community that open in the 1960s, where you'll find probably the SMOOTHEST & CREAMIEST soft serves. They have lots of flavors and even sundaes, floats and hard Ice cream. There is a reason the lines are wrapped around the parking lot. If your missing Disneyworld or Disneyland they also have a pretty dam good pineapple dole whip! read more

Dairy Cream is still hands down the best ice cream to me in this area. Normally I would order the hard ice cream. This time I was a dare devil and decided to order the soft serve with the flavor burst. I've always seen others order this and kept saying to myself that looks cool. How do they make the swirls like that. Apparently it's part of the soft serve machine. I believe I got the strawberry flavor burst and oh my gosh. It was so good. The soft serve is so creamy. And the added strawberry flavor was just the cherry on top. I'll be back for sure to try the other flavors they have. If your one of those people that always orders the same thing when you go. I suggest to be a little daring and try something different. You might actually be surprised. I sure was. read more

The Grasshopper hard ice cream was way below standard. Not creamy. Seemed crystallized inside. The server couldn't even get it to stay together in a cone and had to put it in a dish. It fell apart as I ate it with a spoon. Flavor was blah! They used to serve UConn Dairy ice cream here years ago, but not anymore. Need to bring that back. They won't be serving me here anymore either. read more

Perfect night for an iced cream! Everyone else had the idea too. Line was at least 12 people deep. Did not take long to get my turn. The crew working was fast, efficient and polite. The young lady who helped me was obviously a veteran at this place. Having multiple windows taking orders.... Why don't more places do this? Dairy Cream has been a fixture in northern Windsor Locks for decades. They are seasonal, opening each year in early to mid-March, closing around mid-October. As today was close to 70, it drew me in like a moth to a candle (or a mosquito to my neck). They have a ginormous variety of ice cream (soft serve and hard), and frozen yogurts. Numerous flavors for frozen yogurt and soft serve, and flavors of the day. And they have numerous products.... sundaes, shakes, cones, cups, flurries, blizzards, yada yada yada. I opted for a Heath bar flurry with vanilla soft serve - medium. Reasonable at $5.75 plus tax. It was soooooooo awesome. Plenty of parking, and numerous picnic tables. They also have 3 windows for customers, which are all staffed on weekends and prime times. Well run, they def have their act together. Service and products are all excellent! I've been going to this place for decades and it's very nostalgic at this point. Both soft serve and hard pack ice cream are top notch and so delicious specialty flavors are awesome, Hazelnut on my last visit. THE. BEST. SOFT SERVE. PERIOD. Never icy, always smooth smooth smooth and so creamy. We go here at least once a week (okay, definitely at least twice). We generally always get soft serve but have tried their sundaes, hard ice cream as well. Sometimes you can even catch planes landing or taking off at Bradley which is always fun when you have a young child. My son loves coming here and sitting in the trunk of our SUV to catch some planes. It's one of my favorite things to do with him. Service is fast and always friendly. Everyone is smiling even when the line wraps around the building (usually after dinner in the evenings, but the line moves fast). One of our weekly staples, I recommend it to everyone. Small ice-cream stand by Bradley airport that has a very nostalgic feel to it, which makes sense since they have been around since 1954. The stand has a wide variety of ice cream treats, and they utilize both soft serve and hard ice cream. They have both traditional and a ton of unique flavors for both their soft-serve and their hard ice cream. Additionally, they have ice-cream floats, milkshakes, sundaes, flurries (candy mix-ins), Italian ice, and some take-home options. They also sell hot dogs, chili dogs, chips and soft drinks. You order from an outside window, and they have their menu plastered across the outside wall. As far as seating goes...they have picnic benches throughout the parking lot I got one of their unique ice-cream flavors, which consisted of a vanilla base and a ton of candy mix-in's, inside of a waffle cone. Oh what a day! And what could make this day any betterlicius? Easy, a stop at Dairy Cream! We brought Oma & Opa for a well deserved dairy treat. They've recently been house bound and were grateful for a road trip to the store and frozen concoction. Dairy Cream is so good and honestly worth trying out whenever you're in the Windsor area! I appreciate all places that offer non-dairy options. Honestly, I always risk it being lactose intolerant but when a place has nondairy ice cream as good as their full on dairy ice cream? A big heck yeah from me! It was my first time trying the pineapple dole soft serve and it was refreshing on such a humid day! My partner got the peach and vanilla twist. It was subtle but was basically peaches and cream. This is such a great joint which is no wonder there's always a line - but no worries! The line always goes quickly! The workers there are always so upbeat and so kind. Good ol fashioned soft serve ice cream with reasonable prices, fast service, and delightful smiling faces to tend to snacky patrons. I had the dairy free Pineapple Dole Whip on a cone and my husband had the Orange Dole Whip in a cup. Half way through we swapped and enjoyed the tasty treats on a picnic table under a shaded area. A little off the beaten path, Dairy Cream feels like it's in a time capsule from 1960. Soft serve is the focus, but they also offer hard serve (Gifford's, I believe) and some slushies and other treats. The soft serve was not quite as creamy as I usually prefer, but the fresh waffle cone made up for it. As soon as I got out of my car, the waffle cone smell hit me and reeled me right in. read more

When I pulled in to park, it's appearance was satisfactory and with ample room for my vehicle and space to make a comfortable exit without bumping another motor vehicle. I stood in line for service for what seemed like only a moment, and ordered my frozen cream delight. It only took another moment to receive my order, and to start to enjoy the frozen cream dessert. The waitstaff was somewhat friendly and attentive to my needs. The frozen cream product was satisfactory, and I consumed all of it without hesitation. It was a good product, with an ample amount. Overall, it was a positive experience, and I should be returning for additional frozen cream treats. read more

I was passing by the area, and saw a crowd. So just stopped to give it a shot. As other Yelpers mentioned their hard serve ice creams are the best. Quantity is good too. Camp fire smore was my favorite. Peanut butter iditarod was good as well. I took a pineapple soft serve. I am not a big fan of it. Next time I will be sticking to just the hard serves. read more

How this place has gotten no reviews so far is beyond me. If you are looking for ice cream, soft serve, milkshakes...whatever, this is the place to be if you are anywhere in the state of Connecticut...or 413 area code of Massachusetts. I've been coming here since I was a kid and there's just something about the ice cream [soft serve in particular] that is beyond amazing. It has not changed in all these years, and there's a good reason for that - it doesn't matter what flavor you get, its going to be terrific. In short: - I'm a chocolate fan, so I usually get a soft serve chocolate with chocolate shots (chocolate dip is also acceptable, but not as awesome as the seemingly infinite number of shots they are able to stick to one cone of soft serve.) - The portions are huge, so I usually get a small. Its not too much, but much more than a taste. I usually go after dinner so its just enough to hit the spot without me feeling like a complete lardo afterwards. Note: should you go pre-dinner, order up a large. You will not regret this decision. - Go with the intent of sticking around the area for a while. My advice - get your ice cream and head to the end of the runway at BDL. Nothing better than eating soft serve watching a giant 737 fly a few hundred feet over your head. On that note - you have two immediate options: - Taking a right out of Dairy Creme and then taking a left at the sign for the Air Museum (Perimeter road) brings you to the 24 end of runway 6/24. I find more planes come in this way, but there are no parking signs every few feet, and state cops that patrol the area regularly, so be prepared to be asked to leave. -Taking a left out of the parking lot will bring you closer to Bradley Bowl and the 33 end of runway 15/33, where I suggest you sit in the parking lot, and (legally, yet less frequently) watch planes come in. So yes, I know that was a slight tangent, but the rush of a plane flying over you is exponentially magnified when you are consuming a giant (or reasonably sized) cone (or cup) of pure Dairy Creme amazingness. Go. Eat. Enjoy. Thank me later. read more

Well, Grassroots was closed one Sunday so we came here because of my ice cream craving but I wasn't overly impressed. I eat a lot of ice cream, it's my weakness. There was a decent sized line of people waiting to get up to the window to order, which is always a good sign to me (people like it and are here, yay!) I had a waffle cone with 2 flavors, one was graham central station and the other coconut almond fudge, two flavors that sound absolutely amazing to me, yet I didn't love either and wouldn't order either again. Because of this, I wouldn't go back. It's hard to give me any coconut flavor that I don't love, but this place did. It was ok for me, nothing more. read more

Had a late night fourth of July visit to Dairy Cream and it was scoops on scoops of deliciousness! I opted for the moose tracks which had heaping amounts of little PB cups, gooey swirly fudge, and a rich creamy vanilla base. I was in heaven! My health-conscious other half decided on the sugar-free vanilla and once scoop of mint chip on top. I think he devoured that cone in 0.5 seconds. This is a great place to stop for ice cream. The flavors are really good and really pack a punch. One flavor that's a MUST TRY is the Campfire S'mores ice cream. It has toasted marshmallow ice cream with graham cracker swirl and tons of chocolate chunks. The flavor is outstanding. One of my other go-to flavors is the soft serve black raspberry vanilla twist. It's delicious! It's a nice walk up place with some outdoor seating. It's right across from the Bradley Airport. Really great little spot. read more

Even though we had just eaten a delicious and filling lunch down the road, we could not just drive by the Dairy Cream, a staple of summer. It was raining a bit, so there was virtually no waiting. They still had 2 windows open, and their attendants are on top of their summer game. I had a medium soft serve twist with cherry dip. It was HUGE. My husband got his standard order--large vanilla soft serve in a dish. It was GINORMOUS. This place has generous sizes, very reasonable pricing, a varied ice cream menu, and ample parking. The attendants were friendly and quick. I saw plenty of picnic tables around, but we ate in the van because of the steady drizzle. We're not usually out in this neck of the woods on weekends, so I am so very glad we stopped. It's been years since I've been here. So yummy. You can always have a little room for soft serve in the summer, right?? read more

Had a hot dog here. They have some great ice cream as well. They close for the winter so it really is a spring, summer fall place. Nothing special here but it can be a good stop if you're close by. Mostly it is an ice cream joint. Not much food to pick from. read more

I'm gonna wax on about the ice cream sandwich here. For $1.70 you get an ice cream sandwich (since I live somewhere where homemade ice cream sandwiches are over $3.50, I'm impressed). The cookies were perfectly textured to hold in ice cream and not break or squish out. The ice cream was the perfect temperature not to squish out. The whole thing is rolled in chocolate chips on the outside (if you order that option). It worked perfectly. Now they are not the best tasting cookies I have ever had, but when the whole thing holds together and creates a perfect eating event, sometimes you just overlook the small things. read more

AMAZING ice cream! Too often I go to get ice cream at a mini golf soft serve place or some other random ice cream shop where I spend $4 on a tiny cone or $4 for ice cream that tastes watery and gross. However, the ice cream at this place is amazing and they give you an INSANE amount of ice cream for a large cone that is around $3.50 or so. They also accept credit cards, a HUGE deal when you dont want to deal with fumbling around with shoving money in your wallet while holding a giant, rapidly-melting ice cream cone. The reason why this isn't a 5 star review is that there is ALWAYS a line and even if there are only one or two people ahead of you there seems to be a disproportionate amount of time waiting. I guess this is also just another symptom of their success. read more
