It's in the Old Wethersfield part of time, and if you haven't been there, its definitely a sweet place to park your car, go for a stroll, and check out the shops on (you guessed it,) Main Street. Main Street Creamery is a blue building with a few indoor tables and outdoor seating. We saw big trays of cookies, brownies and macarons on their counters, but of course the real star of a place with "Creamery" in their name is their ice cream, and they sure knock ice cream out of the park. Hard ice cream, frozen yogurts, sorbet, sherbet, Milk Shakes, Malts, Ice Cream Floats, Razzles, and Sherbet Coolers are on the menu. Want to bling out your ice cream with some extras? How about over 20 toppings to pile onto your dish? Among their over 50 hard ice cream flavors are some intriguing ones and some clever names, like Nerds Explosion, Espresso Ripple Bean, Coconut Candy Bar, InstaGRAHAM, Apple Caramel Crumb, Pumpkin Gingersnap, and three Peanut Butter based flavors - PB Nightmare, PB Dream, and PB Oreo. Ice cream cups range from $5 to $8, and we both went with a small for $6. Even though they were advertised to include one scoop, our friendly young scooper gladly offered to include two flavors in each small cup, and between you and me, it sure seemed like she exceeded that "one scoop" limit. Our four flavors included Coconut Candy Bar, PB Dream, White Russian, and Black Raspberry Oreo. Our first impressions were that #1 the ice cream was very smooth and creamy, with zero traces of ice crystals, #2 the flavors were fantastic, and #3 we were spooning up some of the very best ice cream we've had in a while. We were very glad we finally checked out Main Street Creamery. Warning- CASH ONLY business. Not sure what the deal is in Connecticut but this is the second business we stopped at in 2 days that was cash only. I do understand small businesses not wanting to pay the credit card processing fees, but it's 2025 and there are other options to help serve the customers like The Square, etc. There is an ATM machine inside the shop too, but it charges a bank fee. I have never visited Old Wethersfield and found the town to be so cute! I loved seeing bikes every where. There was a line out the door, but the line moved very quickly. Workers were really friendly and allowed me and my party to sample ice creams prior to choosing! They carry traditional flavors, while also having a seasonal rotation which i love. Screaming with excitement for all these fall flavors! First time stopping by Main Street Creamery & Cafe, we were blown away by how many flavors of ice cream they had. They had a generous list of seasonal flavors that we tried the Pumpkin Cheesecake, Apple Caramel Crumb and White Russian. We also got a scoop of Grapenut. The ice creams were super flavorful, generous scoops, but we wished that the Pumpkin Cheesecake had cheesecake pieces in it. It happened to be a beautiful Saturday. Before we headed into the cafe, a group of bicyclists rolled up. It made the line fairly long and outside the building. The staff was super fast scooping those scoops! They finished the line in no time and we didn't have to wait too long. They had a board outside with the flavors for the day that helped us get an idea what flavors we wanted before we got inside. The area is super cute, an adorable little town to walk up and down, checking out the neighboring shops. We look forward to visiting again around the holiday season. What a small lovely ice cream shop! Stopped by here on a Tuesday night and it was PACKED. They are CASH or VENMO only. They do have an atm in the store if you need to pull out cash. The worker recommended Beez Knees and it was soo good. I got a toddler size scoop and it was the perfect amount. It tasted just like a graham cracker but in ice cream form. Very dog friendly! Main Street was one of the few locations I have left on my "need to try this" collection. And honestly, when I arrived, I was wondering why. It was a busy day up in Old Wethersfield, people flocking all over town. Not too bad of a line here but it moved slowly, and from what I saw all the ice cream flavors looked normal. "Unless I'm missing something, I'm probably not getting any ice cream here after all," I muttered to my friend, and then immediately noticed I was missing something: the special flavors had fallen off the board. I put them up and discovered why I wanted to come here after all! So in the end, I went for some novelties, all off the seasonal menu: * Lemon Pie - A nice zest of lemon, not the usual for ice cream, but this was the smallest of my three flavors and I was okay with that. Because: * Honey ... I don't remember the name, it's not on their website, truly a special! With honey crystals and what I think was gingerbread sprinkled throughout, this flavor brought a vibrant uniqueness to my tongue and I was chasing it all around my container to the last drop. * Pumpkin gingersnap - So they had pumpkin cheesecake, nice but I've had that. Then there was this other pumpkin flavor that was dark orange. Yes. And after tasting it, I was right. It is DEEP with pure pumpkin flavor, even purer than pumpkin pie. Never have I enjoyed ice cream this truly pumpkin. And probably never will again - unless I come back here! The staff was nice, willing to throw a third flavor into my pint, which is normally limited to two. It ws a long wait to get to the front, but worth it in the end. I'll try more flavors next time I'm up visiting my friend (who lives within walking distance) and while I wouldn't say "fly over to Hartford now and get that Lyft!", this is a sweet treat worth the side trip from wherever in CT you may find yourself. read more

I tried PB swirl at the suggestion of the owner (I think) and campfire smores while hubs had black raspberry oreo and brownie chunk. Perfectly happy with our choices! And when we want a change of pace, we're more likely to go on a road trip to check out other respected ice cream shops around the State. We enjoy MSC when we go though. Main Street Creamery & Cafe is a gourmet creamery and cafe that opened in Wethersfield, Connecticut in 2004. It was founded by Paula Rubinow. Situated in the center of historic Old Wethersfield, the shop offers about 50 different flavors of ice cream at any given time. Rubinow never dreamed of opening an ice cream shop; in fact she doesn't even care for ice cream that much. Her father Roger "Sonny" Rubinow was a fixture at the creamery for several years. Her used to carve corned beef and pastrami into hot, savory sandwiches at the shop. After her father passed away in 2014, Rubinow started looking to sell the creamery. She decided to stick around for a few more years but finally sold it the Clarke Family in 2017. My family and I visited Main Street Creamery for the first time this past weekend. We stopped in Old Wethersfield to see the 26th Annual "Scarecrows Along Main Street": a display of about 75 scarecrows lining up Main Street for about a mile. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and historic landmarks along the way. While my wife and I were showing our son the scarecrows, we decided to stop at the creamery for a frozen treat. We were very impressed with all of the flavors on the menu. I ordered a cup of Pumpkin Oreo & Campfire S'mores, my wife ordered a cup of Pumpkin Gingersnap & Apple Caramel Crumb, and our son had a cup of Vanilla. We were very happy with our choices; excellent ice cream! We really enjoyed our trip to Main Street Creamery. Absolutely adore this ice cream shop! Came here on a weeknight, and the tiny shop was a revolving door of customers getting their ice cream fix. I welcomed autumn with the Apple Cider Donut Sundae, and my husband had a black raspberry and watermelon sherbet sundae. Both were delicious! The apple cider donut was locally sourced from Belltown Orchards, which complimented the creamy Apple Caramel Crumb ice cream I chose to top my donut.
