    Dirt Cup Sundae
    Kira M.

This is my second summer up to Traverse City - please know that I spent all of this past year dreaming about Dairy Lodge. I've had real dreams about the dirt cup sundae. I live in the Chicago area and have been trying to find something comparable and was let down every time! No one does it like Dairy Lodge. Their team is kind, fast, and encompass the real ice cream stand experience.

Small hot fudge sundae, should be called 3 bite sundae because it's tiny,
    Ruby D.

The small hot fudge sundae barely qualifies as a baby size. For 5 bucks, there should be more than 3 bites of ice cream. The small sundaes have gotten smaller & smaller. I've gotten pup cups with more ice cream. We're local, so we know.

Ice cream was great & service was even better! The girls that look our order were so nice! Outside is cute & quaint! We are visiting from out of town & loved this quick little stop!

If you're looking for a no-nonsense, cash only place with TRUE Americana flare and flavors make sure you hit this little joint folks.. And if you want me to be completely honest.. I would hit the Slab Burger and grab a root beer from them.. no ice..take it over to the Dairy Lodge and have them at a small cone size of ice cream it would make the best and I mean d-best root beer float you've ever had.. I did a baby comb swirl he did a small dip cherry cone.. True happiness for $2.60.. if you're heading up to Traverse City I would definitely bookmark this little place for a treat

    The sign grabbed my attention!

The fabulous sign atop the Dairy Lodge grabbed my attention, and the face cut-out sign in the parking lot sealed the deal. I'd had a rough afternoon, so we stopped & were really pleased to find Dole Whip for my dairy-free date. Both the orange and raspberry Dole Whip were stupendous! I forgot how much colder Dole Whip can be, and suffered a freezing throat for a second, but a sip of water helped that. Service was friendly and fast. So glad we found the Santa girl riding an ice cream cone from her igloo!

It's similar to Dairy Queen. Good soft serve. Love that you can get a mini cone for 1.50. Perfect size!

We had Cherries Moobilee. It had plenty of cherries, chunks of brownie, with a chocolate swirl. We had a small, but it was very generous. There were a variety of favors. I wish I had room for more. There were a few tables indoors and outdoor seating at picnic tables on a deck overlooking the farm. The service was quick, and workers were helpful. You may have to seek it out, but it is worth the effort. I would definitely recommend Moomers.

The lengthy line moved quickly with an efficient process by the staff. An ice cream flight ($10?) was ordered. Five flavors were chosen. Each was about half a scoop I would say. The flavors I tried are below. Most of the ice cream was fulfilling, but not as creamy as I would have thought being homemade. Black Cherry - This was black cherry ice cream with pieces of Michigan cherry pieces. This was plain and did not really taste like anything except for the cherry pieces. Cherries Moobilee - This was black cherry ice cream with chocolate fudge swirl, brownie chunks, and black cherry chunks. Again, the ice cream was plain, but the pieces of everything else helped overcome that a little bit. Cherry Pie a La Mode - This was vanilla ice cream with cherry swirl and pie pieces. This was my favorite. The cherry swirl combined with the small pie pieces made for an appealing treat. Butter Pecan - This again just lacked flavor besides the pecan pieces. Lemon Raspberry - This was lemon ice cream with a raspberry swirl. This was just not good at all. The lemon did not taste like lemon at all, and there was hardly any raspberry. Even with a small portion, I would expect the swirl to be in every bite. Will I go back? Debatable.

Not that I don't enjoy healthy food, I just want as much food as possible and in as much quantity as possible. But, sometimes when you're traveling with other people, you have to give in to other options. That being said, I'm glad I was able to find something enjoyable. Which would have been difficult because there were so many choices to be made. I could come back three times a day for fifteen years and try sketching new each time. I could also be lying. But seriously. Choice variety 10/10. My choice bowl was a kale/banana/pineapple/coconut milk base (green bowl), with sliced bananas, blueberries, granola, and hemp seeds. I like fruity/citrusy/juicy fruits, so this sounded the best. I had zero expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. The decision to mix it all together was probably a good one and I ended up eating it all like a weird green bowl banana blueberry cereal. It was a little less fruity than I expected, but still had solid flavor. Taste level 7/10. Because I'm a gluttonous hound, I also thought it would be fun to get a smoothie to add to my already expanding gut. I chose the kowabunga with included banana, blueberry, pineapple, and coconut milk. I expected it to sweeter than it actually was. Though I expect all my foods to be sweet. Flavor profile 6/10. The atmosphere was pretty much par for the course for an establishment like this. Nice open area, waiting chairs, dine in. Several people waiting for to-go orders. The service wasn't terrible. Two workers running the show. That could very well have been the reason there was such a wait on our food. Though I can't imagine putting all the things we ordered together was a speedy situation. Service speed 6/10. Service accuracy 10/10. The three stars ultimately came from the flavors of the items I got not meeting my flavors criteria. And as a certified Chunky Monkey, I need my flavors.

It's an old house that has been transformed into a burger destination. The inside is cramped, especially in the order area when they're busy, and indoor seating is tough to come by at peak times. The service has never been anything short of excellent on our visits. The staff is welcoming, helpful, patient, and friendly. Service is quick, even when they're slammed. Phenomenal burgers, O-rings, tots, and sweet potato fries. The Northwood's DRAFT (not fountain) root beer is a perfect pairing with their burgers. Slabtown's menu of specialty burgers is enormous and the BYO options include different protein choices and excellent GF buns. I've tried many of their burgers, but have to say that the Slabby Patty on a pretzel bun and the Pungi's Pepper Patty really stood out as a couple of my favorites. For a really sinful (and unhealthy) treat, ask for the gravy tots. Oh brother...insanely good but definitely a guilty pleasure. We've sent tons of our friends and family here, and I can tell you that every one of them has thanked us for the recommendation and raved about their burgers. So what are you waiting for?
