I do understand that scones are typically not super moist but this scone tasted flat and was very dry and crumbly. Was expecting more from the glaze but I will try something different next time. Delicious pastry! Fresh, reasonably priced, and friendly. Traverse City is so lucky to have a great bakery that is putting in the effort consistently to turn out wonderful products. I tried the Nutella scone and my husband had the banana muffin. Both were fresh, flavorful, and very filling! There is seating on the patio with four tables in the summer. The shop is pretty small with just enough room to order. Service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. We will be back again next time we visit! read more

I'm not sure why Yelp is reporting that this business is closed. We were there this past March and it was open and quite lovely. We were staying at a Airbnb in the state hospital and decided to pop over one morning to get some goodies for breakfast. We were greeted by Sarah, who is absolutely delightful, and brought back an assortment to share. The jalapeño bagel bomb was amazing bagel filled with jalapeño cream cheese and cheddar and jalapeño on top and the maple pecan scone was so delicious. We will definitely stop back in any opportunity we can. I love that what used to be the fire stationat the turn of the century is now a brick oven bakery it is so charming. read more

Love this place. It's quite a find in Traverse City. Located across the way from a historic building that used to be a humane mental health facility, it's located in now what is a cool little shopping center. We came to try the pizza but unfortunately it wasn't going to be ready for another 10 mins and we had to go to the airport. So no problem. There were plenty of delicious looking baked goods. We had the the ham and cheese croissant which was super good with the touch of honey mustard. Also the almond croissant and chocolate croissant was delicious and not too sweet. Just right. The bagel bite wasn't as good and would have been better warm. The lady at the cash register who I think is the owner was super nice and helpful. A local brought me here. It is situated in a unique location. The surrounding buildings that are currently being rehabbed were once part of a mental institution. Breads are made with all organic ingredients in a brick oven. The Golden Wheat bread I bought was warm and delicious. And well worth $5.25. I also bought rhubarb muffins for breakfast. They were really moist, and not super sweet. I bought a shortbread square too. It was good, but not the crispiest texture that I have ever had. The pizza is only available in one size, only available for pickup, and only with a couple of topping options, but even after cooling off in the car ride back to our hotel room, this was some seriously delicious pizza. The crust is chewy, flavorful, and nicely charred from that bakery oven. The toppings are judicious but confident, as a truly great pizzeria can be. (Rarely do I trust pizzeria to put fruit on my pizza, but ham, carmelized onion, and apple was very, very, nice.) The result is truly memorable. In Chicago, one of the best cities for Neopolitan pizza in the United States, this place might "only" rank among the four very best pizzas in the city. But with Chicago five hours away, this stuff is peerless. read more

This place is in such a cool area! It's a repurposed mental asylum with these huge, majestic buildings and a little stream running through the place. But the bakery itself is this cute little brick building with a wonderful sunny atmosphere. Not only do they serve an amazing selection of breads but they also have local honey and the best selection of unique baked items I have seen! My husband got a miso caramel croissant which he loved. I got a bagel bite with cream cheese that was great, and a beet and goat cheese and dill danish that was so interesting and good! I wish we could have tried everything! My husband and I tried the baked goods in the morning and the pizza at night. The cinnamon roll was Eh, dry and not at all a gooey cinnamon center. The apricot scone was super Yummy. We went ahead a tried the pizza in hopes that it would be delicious and it was! Not a traditional pizza in terms of lots of oily cheese, that's so good but leaves you super full and heavy feeling. It had a lot of pepperoni and the right amount fresh tasting tomato sauce and a perfect amount of cheese sprinkled on top. I would definitely order it again. I'm so glad our "tour guide" for our 4th of July Traverse City weekend took us to Pleasanton Bakery! The folks at Pleasanton know how to whip up some AWESOME brick oven pizzas! Alas, for visitors, the pizzas are only available on Saturdays, from 12noon til 8pm (or until they run out, I suppose!). Lucky for us, we were there over a weekend, so we got to sample their pizzas! The gals at Pleasonton told us that they usually only have two types of pizza; when we ordered, they offered a third option! Of course, we had to try all three! We got: their "original" veggie, the BBQ sweet potato, and the fresh pesto (the 3rd option). All were delicious...I can't decide which one was my absolute fave! Our host also bought some bread to take home - the parmesan olive loaf, which they were also sampling that day at the bakery. Delish! I was bummed that we forgot to buy a loaf before we left! Good thing for me, I have another option - Pleasanton ships their bread! They only ship on Mondays, but you can get the info on their site (http://www.pleasantonbakery.com/). I am definitely a fan! The blueberry mollases Danish was delicious with tart blueberries and the miso caramel was a fresh take on salted caramel. The filling was to die for. It was so good, that same night we ordered two large pizzas to go! The triple cheese was so fresh and salty from the burrata and pecorino. Went yesterday about 530. The young woman at the register just looked miserable. Didn't say hi, direct us to the menus, didn't look up. Ordered a large meatball pizza. They told us it would take 45 min and it did. We sat outside and the box was delivered to us by a much friendlier young lady. The pizza was hot fresh and really pretty good. I was surprised the top was sprinkled with parsley instead of basil. The pizza was 26 bucks. Tax tip and 2 sodas the bill was 40 bucks. One pizza ! Anyway I was underwhelmed. read more

I was so excited about this place. My wife and I drove over an hour to enjoy their pizza. We arrived at 330pm only to find out that they only fire pizzas after 5pm. There's nothing about this in their site about this otherwise we would not hanged wasted the trip. The bread selection was sparse, although what I did have was very good and this not too surprising given the time of day. Lastly, the staff was not very friendly not helpful. This is the very best artisan bread I've ever had. All the breads are naturally leavened, made with Michigan-grown organic grains, and addictively delicious. I first discovered this place when someone told me I had to try their grissini: crispy, chewy, herby, slightly salty twisted Italian bread sticks. I was hooked! They only make grissini on certain days each week, so it feels extra special when you catch them. The pastries here are wonderful too: the brownies are to die for, and if you spy Ma Brown Chocolate Chippers in the pastry case, do yourself a favor and take a few home. Sadly, I don't live nearby anymore, and some days I still ache for a Ma Brown cookie. My very favorite loaf is the Parmesean Olive Herb. It is obscenely delicious, the stuff of a bread-lover's fantasy, especially when it's fresh from the oven -- on more than one occasion I've torn into the loaf with my hands before even getting home with it. The bread freezes wonderfully, too, in case you want to stock up. Definitely a must-visit on any trip to Traverse City! read more

Holy smokes! This is some damn good bread! The hubs and I stopped in after exploring the old state hospital grounds this afternoon, mostly because we were intrigued by the massive wood pile out back and a glimpse of the brick oven inside... we were greeted by the effusive Vanessa who happily told us about "Old Mother", the 19yr old starter the bakery uses, and all the tasty varieties of bread. We walked out with the fan favorite, the parmesean olive herb loaf. Oh, and she gave us two loaves of their wheat loaf on the house! Guess showing up and being friendly at 5:40pm before they close at 6pm is a good thing! We got home and sliced up the fan favorite and stuck it in the toaster oven - watching the gooey parm bubble up made our mouths water! Out it came and we did a little sampling - some slices with butter, some with Burritt's smoked whitefish pate - YUM OUT! We will be back, and soon. read more

I cant say enough good things about Pleasanton!! Started with the delicious "bread sticks" that would have only been better if they were slightly warmed from that wood fired oven. We also ordered the meat lover pizza and at first were a little taken back by the price but when you see the size of the pizza it is all worth it. The crust was chewy but crispy, the meats delicious and just the right mix of sauce and cheese. We finished the meal with cookies, chocolate chocolate chip, regular chocolate chip and molasses and all were fantastic. Now to the reason I would give 2-3 more stars if possible. We arrived to find that you don't eat here, it is a carry out place. Well that wasn't a big deal but I then locked our keys in our car and the staff was so welcoming and helpful while we waited for the tow company to come open our car. The girl up front let us use her phone to call because of course our phones were locked in the car also. We ended up eating our pizza in the waiting area and they were more than gracious in letting us stay. This will be a place we frequent when we go back to Traverse City again. read more

These are some dang good carbs. The first time I went to the bakery, the employee behind the counter shared that the cheese and tomato loaf rarely makes it home with him intact. I placed an order for the same and, well...it yielded similar results. One loaf, down. I've never eaten anything sweet from Pleasanton, because I start with savoury baked goods that are so delicious that I never stray. I don't doubt their deliciousness, I just seem to be a sucker for the loaves of bread so expertly baked that they don't require any spreads or special treatment to register as a delight to the tastebuds. The cheese-heavy loaves (parmesan olive, parmesan tomato) are divine toasted, and chock-a-block full of great ingredients. Thanks to the brick oven, the crust on the bread is amazing. The bakery's commitment to high quality, organic, Michigan-based ingredients impresses, and I'll happily pay a premium for Pleasanton's product. For kids, alongside cocktails, for a snack...I also recommend the breadsticks. What? You're rolling your eyes, thinking breadsticks aren't anything special? That's where you're wrong. I was offered one for free on my first visit, and have been hooked ever since. Tender, but textured, these breadsticks are full of flavour, herbs and other seasonings. Y. U. M. We ended up getting a smore thing ( I can't remember exactly what it was called) but it was very rich and really good. This could be all around amazing pizza if they would put some cheese on the $20+ pizza! Both times I've got it about half the surface of the pizza had cheese on it, causing lots of bites to be zero cheese bites. Put some cheese on your pizza and you guys have the best pizza in Northern Michigan easily. Brought my parents here over Fourth of July weekend for pizza night and some friends over this past weekend, they loved it. I will never be able to eat $5 hot and ready's again! The Sicilian pizza is my favorite, house marinated olives, local tomatoes, fresh herbs with a nice, thin wood fired crust.. you can't go wrong. Last night we called for our Margarita pizza a little late and they were running low on basil, so they offered to mix in some arugula. YUM. I'm going to have to call late more often ;) The best part about it is you can carry it down to Left Foot Charley and enjoy a glass of wine or cider while you eat.
