I know that it is located near the Calapooia River, which just cracks me up to say out loud. But here is a silver of ice-cold truth that Professor Wikipedia won't tell you - it is frickin hard to navigate your way out of Albany once you're in. I could have ended up in a nearby mobile home park with five kids named Bubba. Only by the grace of GPS did I manage to escape this fate. But was the potential landslide into a wholly different life worth it for the kid's meal of chicken fingers, fries, and a - oh baby - Girl Scout Thin Mint Blizzard for under $5? Almost. Maybe I like the name Bubba, all right? Bubba Blizzard V., I shall meet up with you some other time, just not in that city. (1) Seriously, while my group and I attempted to find our way through the illogical zig-zag of streets that lead back to the I-5, one person tried to recall the name of the movie and nobody in the car could remember it. It drove us nuts and distracted us from our probable life detainment in Albany. It took approximately nine calls to various friends, including Yelp's own Danielle K, to figure out what the hell that movie is called. And now, we must watch it religiously to make sure history doesn't repeat itself. read more

This place is horrible, really it is, heres whats wrong with it. For starters the service is extremely slow, and i mean VERY SLOW you could watch paint dry faster in a rain storm. The alternation between the older woman who works there and the array off high school girls is horrible they act like its a struggle to do their jobs and make fast food very slow and inefficient. You literally place your order then have to wait at least 15 mins to get it even if your at the front of the drive thru longer if theres a pile up of cars. They dont tell you that theyre out of something till you get to the front of the line (window) then ask if you want something else that isnt the same. For example i went there for some soft serve a staple of dairy queen, plain good old fashioned vanilla soft serve. There was a line of 3 cars in front of me so i was prepared to wait forever, i placed my order, the older woman said NOTHING about being out. Then i get to the front of the line after a good 30 minutes and she tells me they're out of vanilla soft serve? something that is literally in over 50% of their frozen treats? Really? And this couldn't be brought to my attention when i was at the drive thru ordering board? Then she asked if i wanted chocolate, i find chocolate disgusting, and if i would have wanted something else i think i would have made that decision at the board before placing my order. Very disappointing to say the least. Another time i ordered some blizzards and the highschool girls working there were too busy flirting with the fry cook to make the frozen treats, then when they had time out of their busy socializing schedule they graced me with their presence and finally made my order, and messed one of them up and took EVEN longer to make it. So i had one blizzard melting while they were effing around trying to make the other, exactly what i wanted right. Then i went here to get my daughter a simple grilled cheese kids meal. The grilled cheese at dairy queen is suppose to be put on panini bread and on the press. They decided to use their texas toast and put it on the grill not even long enough to toast it. My daughter does not eat meat and quite frankly the bread tasted like they threw it on the grill where hamburgers had been and was drenched in a disgusting hamburger grease flavor. Then the owner throws a fit about accepting coupons that are made for dairy queen and are from the company. I would steer clear of this place if you want ice cream just go to baskin robins or cold stone, if you want hamburgers or chicken strips, go to burger king, carls jr, or mc donalds you'll fair FAR better than this place and you wont be waiting anywhere near the amount of time you have to wait here to get your food. You could literally drive to salem which is about 22 miles north bound go to one of their many dairy queens and get far faster and better service than you will at this place. read more

Very irritated with the service and the product we got. They pre-make their cones and Blizzards and then put them into a freezer which changes the consistency of the ice cream making it very gritty. We asked them since it was busy in the drivethru to not do this, yet when we got to the window they had premade the Blizzard we ordered and it was all gritty and gross. The "manager" who couldn't be more than 18 told us that we had requested the cones not be pre-made and I would have to pay for a new Blizzard. On top of that the cones were gross. The ice cream tasted off and was super soft. The cones were old and stale. Very unhappy with the product and service we received. read more

This isn't my first time going through this Dairy Queen and having this same problem. I keep getting my orders back and they mess it up EVERY TIME. I never leave reviews so it's pretty bad for me to be leaving one. I love the Dairy Queen flamethrower sauce and I ordered two sides of it for my large fry and they gave me ONE BUFFALO SAUCE instead. I have gotten things put on my burgers that I asked not to have, I have gotten half full fry cups, I have gotten only half mixed blizzards from the place. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY BECAUSE THEY AREN'T GOING TO GET IT RIGHT. I'm done going to this Dairy Queen. read more

If I was rating the service alone, this place would get a 1. The food redeemed it. We waited in line for 10 minutes to order and then about 20 minutes for our food. They are very clearly understaffed and I felt bad for the employees who were being run ragged trying to keep up with everything. I don't think they even have an actual cook - it seems it's just the manager running the kitchen with the occasional help of a "floater" swinging between ice cream and the kitchen. It's clearly a management and training issue, not the employee's faults. It honestly seems like the manager is too cheap to hire a cook, purchase more than 1 credit card machine (there are none at the registers - they take it to the back to charge your card), get some more employees, and take the time to properly train the staff. After seeing the filth caused by a busy, understaffed restaurant, I was not hopeful for quality food. I was, however, pleasantly surprised!! The food was hot and freshly fried. It took a while and it was painful to watch the food pile up and sit on the warmer, but it was delicious. If it looks busy, I would recommend the drive through, but that is still a little slow. Wouldn't try to come here if I only had a 30-minute lunch. read more

I stopped in for a quick ice cream cone. I waited for five minutes at the counter and never got helped. Employees were scrambling around, but no one worked the cash register. No sign of a manager, just a few high school-age kids working. While waiting, I observed unsanitary conditions behind the counter: food/ice cream on the floor... all of the topping containers had toppings slopped all over the counter... uncleaned milkshake blenders... it was so gross that I walked out. If I was a health inspector, I would have written-up numerous violations. read more

There are very few times in my life where I have felt the need to give constructive criticism to a food service restaurant. This is one of those times. In general, quick, easy and cheap fast food has certain expectations attatched. A sandwich made wrong, maybe. Some brunt fries, sure. However, when you take a bite into a $5.00 order of 8 or so cheese curds, the middle should not still be frozen. When you order a cheeseburger, it shouldn't smell and taste like the inside of a microwave. And please, don't let me get started on the half cooked, soggy French fries. I've worked fast food. The majority of America's youth have worked fast food. I understand that things can get busy. But if you are serving food that you wouldn't feed to your dog, it's a problem! The service is mediocre, the wait times made me age about 50 years, and I won't even start on the inside, because I refuse to even go in there anymore. The staff are constantly splattered in grime, and if the owner can't shell out for a new blender shield, we have more problems than I care to comment on. Not to mention the fact that I made a Yelp account just to write a review about this Dairy Queen, which is sad in and of itself. Overall, I'm a disappointed, disgruntled and ripped off customer. Terrible!!! Long drive through lines, long wait time, DISGUSTING "sanitation" skills -- NOT clean at all!! One employee was touching his hair while working in the kitchen, the other employee had a band-aid and no hand glove on to cover the hand in which the band-aid was being worn, he also did not wash his hands after handling money. Dirty dinning area. Spoons were left inside partially covered ingredient containers. The blizzard that is advertised as a highly frozen drink was not even frozen! It was watery!! This is by far the worst Dairy Queen I have ever been to. The last two Sunday's in a row we've tried to get blizzards and they are out of Reese's and butterfinger. A few days later we try again and there is maybe half of a peanut butter cup in the blizzards. This has happened so many times. Don't ever expect quality ice cream from this place. We should have double-checked Yelp before going. 17 min to tell us they couldn't make 2 of our items (one was the featured sandwich plastered all over the store), 27 min before we got any food. Ice cream was good as expected. And the girls working were pleasant. Having said that, the joint was a wreck. Filthiest restaurant I've ever seen. Prep counter with food and melted ice cream every where I looked. Milkshake blenders were caked with mess, spattered ice cream all over the machines, staff, floors. It literally looked as if they hadn't cleaned all week. The floor in the dinning room has foot prints all over, as if something was spilled and not cleaned up, so it was tracked all over. Shameful, unhealthy, unprofessional, clearly health code violations top too bottom. Whomever is responsible for this establishment, no excuses. The only safe thing to eat is the ice cream. (Only because I know they go through it quick enough to not expire) I would never eat the food here ever again. The one time I did I got expired ranch that was completly separated. The store is absolutely filthy and the owner has a reputation for being inappropriate with staff and refusing to throw away anything regardless how long it's expired. I literally take my cell charger with me and watch Netflix in the drive through and can consistently finish an episode of the office and start a new one before reaching the window. Half the time my blizzard either is incorrect or not mixed half way through. They hand you your blizzard with a napkin wrapped around it, you will definitely need it as your hand or your car will end up sticky.
