I've been here a few times, so I figured I should finally get around to writing a review! This location is quite a bit smaller than the Daly City location, (which was the first Daiso I had been to.) Although,they still have pretty much anything someone could want! I've bought a few scarves and headbands from here. I needed something to keep the copious amounts of sweat off my face while working out, but I didn't want to spend too much on something that has a future being soaked in sweat. Also, if they didn't fit right or whatever, I didn't want to blow much money on them. I ended up being very pleased with them, and I've been back to buy more. I also really appreciate the small kitchen items they sell. Like peelers for example, you never know if one will work well until you use it. For $1.50, I can rationalize buying it, and if I hate it, I don't feel too bad about tossing it...Or leaving it in the drawer never to see the light of day again... All in all, this is a GREAT addition to the area, and I will continue to shop there...(Or at least wander around marveling at all the interesting things I have no use for.) read more

Within five minutes, I am ready to smack everyone out of the way with the shopping basket. It's just not because the aisles are small, things are jam packed and the sheer amount of people inside the store, it's the rudeness. Where are your manners? If you bump into someone, mumble a polite apology. Don't just rush over to whatever the fuck that sparked your interest, it ain't going anywhere anytime soon. This place reminds me of the ultimate consumerist society we live in (http://www.storyofstuff.com/ sums it up nicely). Aisles and aisles of plastic and flimsy items have me wondering how they are going to be disposed of or recycled. Sure, the items are cheap and some of them very useful for the short run. Like every dollar store, the quality is suspect. It's most likely going to be used only a few times before being shipped to the landfills. Two stars for Daiso because I did find useful things: notions (bias tape and elastic bands), insoles and a knickknack organizer. However, this is not a store that I would visit again. p.s. Don't buy the bias tape. It's less than paper thin and unusable. read more

Japan's 100 yen store. I remember when DAISO was straight poopin' everywhere in 2007. You can literally find anything in this place. Pros: They have snacks! Choco-shrooms ... Ramune marble soft drinks... Various kinds of candy. Mostly everything is priced at $1.50 unless otherwise stated. I love the storage areas. And also the gift bag/wrapping section. I'm a big fan of their notebooks/stationaries. Pens are actually of good quality. I've bought candle/oil lamps from here too for such a good deal. I don't really care for their cosmetic or toiletry section only because I don't know what's actually in it. Cons: omg... I feel like I must learn japanese before coming here. Literally everything thing on the packages is in Japanese. That's my only con. Also, every single DAISO I go to seems like it's 80 degrees inside. No AC. I'm super sweatin' when I walk in. (This location and Newpark mall location... Gaaah!) Service: Always been good. I've never experienced bad or rude service from anyone. Mountain View location has closed down and I heard a few other in the SJ area. Great malls location closed down and re-opened. I don't usually shop at DAISO nowadays unless I REALLY need to. Just to walk around in here, you kind of keep adding things in your basket (sometimes things you don't really need) and before you know it it just makes clutter in your house. So nowadays I come in here if I really need something. In this case, I wanted to see if they sold chopstick helpers for my dear mom who is just learning how to use chopsticks and no luck. Good prices and I love the selection but the thing that bothered me the most is the customer service. I accidentally dropped something ceramic, and as a customer, the only right thing to do was to pick up the scrap instead of leaving it there for people to step on. I tried to reach out to one of the employees by letting them know what happened and all she said was, "Okay?? So what do you want me to do with this?" And all I told her was that I broke this piece and wanted to let her know. All she said was, "Well you're gonna have to pay for this." Not a single thank you for letting her know so as a former retail associate, I was really put off by this service. And of course, as a respectable customer, I paid for the broken piece. Rule of thumb for Daiso customers: IF YOU BREAK IT, YOU BUY IT. Service seemed a bit snobby and because of that, I won't be coming back. read more

This Daiso charges $1.75 for its chocolate pocky. It must think I'm too lazy to walk next door to the landlord's space. That's right, this place leases the retail space from Marukai. At Marukai, Glico Pocky chocolate was just $1.49 today. P.s. I think this place should be called Chinese dollar store. Sure there are some made in JP stuff 日本製 but mostly I think the village factory worker should get at least some credit. She probably gets paid $.5 an hour to crank out this stuff, and yet corporate prices things at $1.50 and up. Holy moly, we're getting ripped off! Life's not fair. read more

I have fallen in love!! I never even knew this store existed and then a friend told me about it and I had to go... and spend three or four hours walking in circles until I bought half the store! Truly, spent next to nothing since everything's soooo cheap... Japanese dollar store?? heck yes! ok, there are some things that are more than $1.50 but they're clearly marked and easy to avoid.. hehe... There is just so much stuff here, boxes, lanterns, chop sticks, housewares, cooking stuff, sushi stuff, cosmetics, underwear... pure randomness galore! I love it!! =D There aren't many food items since it's attached to Marukai next door but there are some candies and little snack items available. Just be aware that they will make you package your own stuff but they have all the boxes and newspapers and whatnot there to keep you from destroying your purchases on the way home. ok, it's official, I'm an addict... anything Japanese and I'm there... Oh my word...this store blew me away. Everything is $1.50 unless marked other wise. They have so much in there store....I was shocked. And for all they did have it was organized well, & not in a cramped only 1 person fits down the isles. It was spacious well lit and they are green. They limit the bags and make you pay for the extra which not many other stores do but very clever & helpful in my opinion. The associates were very poilte and smiled instead of frowned . I was there for half and hour and only paid 12 bucks for all the little items I bought. from stationary to plates & pumice stones to little useless trinkets...I was very happy here :] I plan on going back often to see what things they get during the seasons! read more

I'm a fan of Daiso - it's like a Japanese version of a dollar store. Sure they have lots of cutesy junk that I'll never use in my lifetime but it's a cool place for little cute stocking stuffers and random Japanese items. This place is pretty big and in a comfortable open space. Great location - get your Daiso kick, then head over to the new Japanese supermarket opening soon (about time!), get some delicious cream puffs at Beard Papa... or good pizza at JT McHarts... or decent froyo at Yogurtland... or delectable desserts at La Patisserie. Bottom line: I'm a sucker for random Japanese junk, esp $1.50 finger puppets and $3-5 Santa costumes. read more

This Daiso is right near my work so I'm tempted to go any time I go to Yogurtland or Beard Papa. This one seems a lot nicer than the one in Fremont or Mountain View, but it's somehow smaller. What it really has going for it is that it doesn't smell like that plastic that you'll get completely high off of after 10 minutes in the store. I have yet to purchase anything here because there are only so many magnets and plastic sock organizers and ninja-inspired potholders that I can own, but it's nice to know it's right there. read more

I first heard about Daiso by way of Yelp, so I was super stoked to go and discovery this new store. I convinced patrick to tag along with me after his long day of work so we made our way to this location rather than the mountain view one because its a lot closer. So I somewhat knew what to expect while entering the store due to all of the reviews I had read on Yelp. When we entered this Daiso I was somewhat overwhelmed, I saw so many different things with some many different purposes. Some of the items in this store brought me back to childhood (granted I am not any decent of asian) . there was this one section of the store imparticular. This was the oragami section. A classmate of mine used to ALWAYS come to class making little oragami figures but she had the coolest peices of paper. When I discovered these in the store it made me want to try oragami , all of those colorful sheets of paper. Then I realised what am I going to do with these folded peices of paper. I could imagine it now, them all over my book shelf eventually being tossed haha.. So i didnt bother however I was elated to have found out if at any point in my life i decided to practice oragami I could go to this store to get all the papers I needed. :). I ended up purchases many different things, a ipod case, lunch storage boxes, chop stick holder, caligrafi ink along with a brush, 4 squares of wood in which I am going to make into some canvis's, a few candy snacks, hair supplies, piggy bank and all for under 30 bucks ( each item being $1.50) . If you have children whom need school supplies and or have the itch to get artsy fartsy they have a lot of crafts and school supplies for really cheap. So I highly recommend going there. I would definatly go back and I look forward to checking out the Mountain View location. Surely a great spot to shop. read more

very cute items - specially kitchenware for only $1.50! They've got pretty IKEA-esque things. Some of the styles of the bowls and mugs are very modern and still only $1.50. One thing I noticed they have a lot of is rice molders. Perfect to make little sushi rolls. - something Ikea doesn't have! LOVE THIS PLACE - makes me want to pack a lunch everyday! Gives me an excuse to buy the cute little accessories you can use to pack rice, soy sauce, and make little cupcakes! Came here once with a friend to show her what's up and we ended up buying cupcake accessories and baking all afternoon. Our bunny cookie cutter ended up making our cookies look like bears but I'm sure that was due to our lack of baking skills. read more

The first Daiso I went to was in Tokyo. I thought I had found the BEST place for Japanese souvenirs, "Everyone back home will be happy with the gifts and little do they know I only spent about $1.50 per item!!!" I get back home and tell my boss about my "little Japanese secret" and she says, "Oh... you mean the store they have in Mountain View?" Damnit. Nonetheless, I love this store. It has a ton of cheap Japanese goodies; my favorite section is the ceramics and the stationary. I'm sure it's totally cheap crap in Japan, but in the U.S., it's kitsch! :) read more

So after hearing all the hype about this store on Yelp, seeing the big "Coming Soon" sign for the store, and even passing by one in Tokyo, I finally decided to stop in and see what this store is all about. I just expected to see a lot of cheap stuff that I would find in any dollar store, but it was interesting what they sell for $1.50, $2, $3, and $5. Lots of the stuff that they were seemed to be better quality than what I would normally see in a dollar store, and since most of the things are from Japan, they are packaged and presently nicely. Some stuff I wonder how they sell such as stationery that is designed for A4/B5 sized paper, and how most things have their instructions in Japanese with no English translation, but I figure for people who are here from Japan, or are studying Japanese, etc. could use them. Overall, I really like the store, and the people working in there were all cheerful and helpful. read more

GAH. Daiso is the sneakiest way to get me to hand over my loose bills and spare change AND the worst part is that the whole scheme is disguised in this cutesy Japanese goodness that's mostly made in China anyway (to keep things cheap). And I don't even feel guilty until in much later retrospect. And they don't do returns or exchanges. I have purchased some highly useless things here (at least to me/the people to whom I gift these things in jest)--sunflower-shaped sauce bottles, strawberry-print plastic chopsticks... I have also picked up airplane- and ship-shaped cookie cutters made in Japan. I hope that guarantees I won't get some form of lead poisoning (though Daiso is good about posting warning signs on these deceptively innocent-looking ceramic saucers and mugs). Four batches of pecan shortbread later, my friends and I are all alive--so that's a good sign. Japanese snacks here are pretty plentiful, but come in smaller packs which are great for sampling or relatively guiltless snacking. They had these "CARPE DIEM" Asian-mom visors here for $2 each. By request, I got 4 navy ones for my darling mothership. She probably doesn't know what the phrase means and might get amused looks as she dons the thing in perennially sunny SoCal, but we hopelessly tricked and trapped customers know that's just Daiso's way of saying in a high-pitched anime girl voice, "You might not live to see another day, so buy before you die!" read more

This Daiso is very different from the ones I have been so far. Very slow cashiers, the lines were huge so I ended up not getting anything. Besides, very lacking in the pens, pencils and writing gear you are used to find at any good Daiso. Not too much assortment of what I was looking for. Daiso is bad for compulsive buyers and claustrophobics (maybe). But wow, how bad do I want that space suit kitchen sponge... This store has hella stuff for cheap; most items are $1.50 unless otherwise indicated. Everything (almost!) you could ever need is densely packed into the old Long's. The aisles are very narrow and small so you have to be careful not to accidentally knock something over. My last trip here I bought Hi-Chew ($1) and strawberry Calpico ($1.50). The cashier suggested that I not consume them at the same time, good advice! Some things I scoped out during a previous visit were no where to be found so I def suggest if you're thinking about buying something, just buy it. Altho, the 'all sales final, no refund, no exchange' is a big deterrent from doing just that.. Another thing I suggest is that you be aware of prices. Some of the stuff here seem like a steal for $1.50 but you can actually find them else where for less. The thing that disappoints me the most is that a lot of the stuff is "made in China" or elsewhere. I think, culturally, we are taught China = bad, Japan = good so seeing that really puts a damper on shopping here. read more

I'm a sucker for all things cute, and well...Japanese people sure do know how to make a bunch of cute stuff! Even when you think you don't need anything. I guarantee you, that after fully walking through the store, you will find yourself walking out with a little something, thing. This place is great for handy kitchen items, such as collapsible strainers that are also microwave safe, cute little sauce containers to pack in your kids lunches, cute lunch containers, etc. I love their dishware but there are signs everywhere that say that they may contain chemicals that can be harmful to your health...so FYI. I still bought a few. :) Their stationary and office supplies are 10 on the cute-scale. Basically, everything in here is just so damn cute. My recent visit, I left with magnets, pastel colored chopsticks, a sponge holder, a panda shaped bath sponge...and more.. Since almost everything in the store is $1.50, it makes you feel less guilty for buying all this random stuff! Overall, this place is deadly for people who shopping problems. read more

Well - Daiso has kind of stopped having the wonderful selection it always had, at the Mountain View location. Now they are focusing more on just keeping the same old thing and phasing out the more useful items. Llike anyone remember the awesome metal magnetic organizers? Gone for years now. Buckets with handles and lids? Gone now. Small organizers for tiny items? Little plastic drawers? Nope. Just one. I remember when there used to be 20 different types of plastic containers for organizing. And 6 types of over the door hooks. Now it seems more clothing items about than useful housewares. Thankfully, you can still get some organizing stuff over at the Hollenbeck Japanese/Korean? store Lychee Tree. Oh wait, you can't. They're closed. :( It's sad that this store which is smaller than the Mountain View store now has more selection than them. Even stickers and craft supplies - maybe the items I liked just weren't profitable, but man.... Also - Daiso can be cheap for some things, but say, you want to buy some tiny items. Like a tiny plastic letter for crafts. YUP. It's a 1.50. What!? C'mon. Also, good luck ever getting a spot. They share a tiny parking lot for a strip mall that has many restaurants, so......really....that coupled with the way people in Cupertino tend to park means you're probably going to be spot-stalking. read more

I really like this cute little japanese place, found this place when it was opened & have been coming back for my regular fake eyelashes and little things here and there. BE WARE, you can end up spending a ton of time in here and walk out with a million cute things you don't really need. I bring my honey along to stop me from getting all the cutesy things.. Man, this is a cute lil' store to stock up on all the things you never knew you needed! Cleaning supplies, kitchenware, baked goods, wrapping, stationary, pens, pencils, arts and crafts, holiday, baby stuff, electronic stuff, beauty supplies (I bought a small, silicon face scrubber that has no taken up permanent residence on my bathroom sink and in my gym bag.. best purchase ever!).. the possibilities are endless. You'll find kitchenware, bags, costume kits, household items, snacks, phone cases, charging cables and more. The store is brightly lit, clean and the mood is set with a constant stream of J-pop. Went by this place today to pickup some cute and inexpensive chopsticks, rice spoon, Jpse dish sponges, and green tea pocky sticks. This location is well stocked, clean and conveniently located next to Marukai. Lots of parking avail as well. Why not 5 stars? 4 young employees restocking shelves were yelling to each other (over the aisles) about their sex lives, and whether they would participate in threesomes. Very unprofessional and inappropriate for a family oriented store with kids nearby. read more

This will be short and sweet. Daiso is the best place to shop... ever. If you are need of anything (home goods, stationery, baking supplies, beauty items, etc.) make a stop at Daiso FIRST... on the off chance that they don't have it, then go elsewhere. Why? Daiso literally has everything you need and is only $1.50/item. I wish I had dropped in when I moved up before I hit up Ikea, The Container Store, Target, Walmart, etc. The quality of goods is also amazing - after all, it's Japanese! Only downside is the return policy as all sales are final. But honestly, for $1.50 an item, you probably still saved money. read more

Not too impressed. No comparison to the store in Richmond, Vancouver or the one in Harajuku, Japan in terms of goods carried. I did not see anything I want to get, which is rare. The goods are so boring and so few years back. I can't help but wonder if this store is ordering from an older Daiso catalog and is getting the cheaper, older inventory!? read more

Daiso, what would I do without you? This place is a Japanese nick-knack store that has everything from garden shears to lead pencils. This store has so many random things here that you could never really say "ok, I've seen enough, time to go". Every time I've come back, I see something different that I never noticed before! They have that much variety here! I like to buy the cool Japanese rice paper posters here. Everything is $1.50 unless stated otherwise. There's way too many things I've seen here to list off in this one review. I've seen earphones, drawing utensils, flip flops, kitchen knife sets, sushi making kits, Japanese mini-stuffed animals, party material, cute little gift boxes, etc. I end up staying at this place for hours every time I'm here. There's just too many things to look at, from the quirky to the useful. You won't be disappointed. read more

This place is freaking awesome. Among many things, they have a collection of good bento boxes ranging from $1.50 to $6.00 a set, plus all the bento accessories you could want. I might come back here soon to pick up a basket for knitting supplies. Some of the sort of things they stock: - storage supplies, mostly kitchenware - dishes, cups with Engrish phrases, utensils, pans - stationary supplies - really cheap costumes - sewing supplies like threads, needles of all kinds - small hardware items - Japanese snacks and weird grocery items like pre-mixed dry cookie dough - hair accessories - bathroom accessories like drain covers - AND SO MUCH MORE ! As Alan M. mentioned below, be wary of some of the things you buy here; they have a few signs up mentioning that some of the items could cause cancer (maybe the paint on the dishware?). WELCOME TO HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!! This is exactly what popped into my head when I walked into Daiso...I was completely overwhelmed by awesomeness...and Japanese cuteness! Just look at the photos posted here and you will get what I'm saying! Need chopsticks? Heres and entire aisle of various types. Sake set....100 different kinds. The cutest damn tea/coffee mugs you've ever seen...here they are...notebooks with random cuteness everywhere...here's an aisle of them. And everything can be had for a $1.50. If that doesn't get your blood flowing, I don't know what will! That said, Daiso can be dangerous...you'll go on cuteness overload and end up at home with way more than you need...but you REALLY wanted it...so it's ok. read more

Awesome, just went there today right near my work. Outside of the store got a sign "Grand Opening". I went to almost all of them in the bayarea. Got some fishing hook and a wire cutter. The wire cutter is useful to for me to cut tennis string, those sell in store like $25+ easily. I got both item for less than $4. Sure will go back again, I think there is a Japanese Market next today will open soon. Recommend everyone to check it out. I went in looking for blotting papers because they are cheap and you get a lot. I of course walked out with a bag full of things I didn't need but could not pass up since they were $1.50 unless noted. I have not yet used my pastry scrapper but I have used the clear mascara, travel containers, eyelashes, boot forms, pocket tissues, hylouronic lotion, melamine sponges, lunch utensils, snack and other stuff. If I go with the hubby, he has to hold my hand otherwise I would take off like a kid in a candy store and fill up my basket with things I think I need but really just want. read more

In a nutshell, an Asian $1.50 store. THAT IS AWESOME. They play the weirdest mix of kpop, jpop and american pop music while you are thinking of buying stuff you really don't need.
