    Afghan Shir Chai

This is a really cute spot for a brunch and grabbing a chai. Came here with two other friends and they were packed on a Saturday afternoon, but the wait was really quick maybe about 10 to 15 minutes for a seat. We got the Afghan omelette and a Shakshuka, and they were both really tasty. Great ambience quick service tasty food will definitely bring a friend back.

We came here around 3pm on a Saturday, it wasn't completely packed but did get more people as we dined. Our party of 3 was sat in the back in the corner. We didn't leave until 5:30...and that wasn't by choice. What we ordered: - Shakshuka - Panini Pressed Turkey Sandwich - Chicken Caesar salad wrap - A pot of chai We had to wait long to order but what's worse is our food took forever to come out and they all came out at completely different times. It's really confusing why it took so long because my Chicken Caesar salad wrap came out first, then later the Shakshuka, then much later Panini Pressed Turkey Sandwich. How long does it take to make a turkey sandwich realistically? The food isn't bad exactly but nothing special. We all waited to eat together but it was such bad timing with no apologies. I know their kitchen closes between 4-5 but if the order is put in it should go through right? No explanation whatsoever. We also had to stop someone for water refills. The best thing about the experience was the chai. It was tasty and was kept warm with a candle. Nice touch. I would not likely be back or recommend it until the kinks are worked out.

Steak and eggs, shakshuka, afghan omlette + iced matcha and refresher.

Absolutely beautiful cafe. The interior is modern, inviting, and chic. Was there for brunch on a Saturday. All three of us loved our food. We got: steak and eggs, shakshuka, and the afghan omelette. Everything was super flavorful and perfectly spiced. Steak was a little tough to cut, but still good. I ordered it medium and it was more on the well done side. My friend tried the iced matcha and said it was one of the best she's ever had (she's a matcha snob). I didn't try any of the drinks. The servers were super friendly. It did take a long time to get our food, and I was served my steak and eggs quite a long time after my friends got their food. I had to remind them to bring it out. My favorite part of the cafe was the prayer room. Super clean and beautifully decorated with prayer mats and hijabs/abayas. Never seen such a nice prayer room in a cafe. Restrooms were also nice and clean (with bidets!) #normalizethis I'll be back to try the drinks. Great option for brunch.

Very pretty place hidden in the strip mall next to BJs on route 1. Super convenient. Surprisingly bigger looking on the inside. Very cute aesthetic. They do both takeout and dine in. The strawberry matcha was one of the best I've ever had. They use ceremonial grade matcha from Japan. It's $8 (+$1 for almond milk) but it's a delicious well made treat. You can really taste the quality of the matcha. Husband's mocha latte was good (basic but in a good way). The omelette and home fries were delicious. It was stuffed with fillings and made French style with a very thin egg layer (so you get more filling). Husband's waffle was good but not what was expected- it was a liege style waffle, not Belgian. So crispy chewy dense waffle with a strong sugar taste. The waffle also came with whipped cream and caramel sauce (the menu listed butter and whipped maple butter) in addition to maple syrup. My one complaint is that they're cramped and squeezed in. The little side tables for two are so close to each other, the waiter can't really talk to you like normal. Multiple times he appeared behind me or at an angle. At one point I didn't realize he was waiting behind me for our order. Outside of that, the service was great and I'll be back.

The ice mocha latte was delicious. I really love the double smash burger hands-down the best Smashburger I have had ever and service was excellent as always. Really nice ambience as well. Very warm and relaxing.

A cute spot in central NJ! Loved the interior - with the greenery and natural light. My friend loved the refresher she tried and I had their iced chai with cardamom cold foam. We didn't try the food so can't share on that. Service was good!

Stuffed French toast with pistachio cream

First-Time Visit - Highly Recommended! I stopped by for the first time after reading the reviews, and I'm so glad I did. Everything had that wonderful homemade feel. I ordered : Afghan Latte, Shri Chai, Stuffed French Toast with pistachio cream, and the Afghan Omelette. The stuffed French toast was outstanding -- perfectly sugar-coated and served with a rich homemade caramel syrup. It paired beautifully with fresh fruits on the side. The Afghan omelette was equally impressive: fresh spinach, goat cheese, and tender, well-cooked beef all came together in a flavorful, satisfying dish. Both drinks were excellent and full of authentic taste. I will definitely be back soon to try more items from the menu. Warm, comforting flavors and generous portions -- a real gem!

Shir Chai Co is one of the best brunch spots in Jersey. I came here three times just for the chicken and waffles which came out fresh with flavorful, crispy chicken tenders. Their chai is always consistent and served hot in a pretty teapot. Pancakes are fluffy, not overly sweet, and my second favorite item on their menu. Lamb sliders and the breakfast burrito were also tasty if you're a meat lover. Overall amazing decoration, atmosphere and service. This place is perfect for families, catching up with friends, a late chai spot and for Muslims looking for a place to eat good food that is guaranteed halal.

Very nice interior, a place you'd like to sit and savor your food. Pricey menu but we liked our pancakes and the iced latte with vanilla cold foam. I'll definitely be back to try the savory items.

The staff member / barista seemed as if they hated their job. It was around 10am on a Sunday and understandably there were a few people already in the shop, but the staff member felt a bit cold and overall, quite miserable. The coffee was pretty gross as well, which could be a byproduct of the barista hating that they were working that day. I am a sucker for a fun drink and wanted to try the cookie and cream latte, not knowing it was just a cup of milk with the smallest splash of coffee and mixed with crushed up cookies. I felt as if I was drinking a child's recipe, with each attempted sip clogging my straw due to the cookie pieces. If you don't like coffee this is great, because it tasted exactly like what was advertised - milk and cookies. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but my partner ordered something completely different and it didn't taste great either. The taste of burnt coffee was prominent, making it hard to consume as well. The one positive is the environment seems like a great place to work remotely / study, as that is what many patrons were doing. The open-ness and bright atmosphere is great, but the beverages and customer service not so much.

On our way to the café, we were pleasantly surprised by a tour of Rutgers. The staff at Hidden Grounds are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They're particularly known for their chai, so my friend ordered a Rose Chai over ice, while I opted for a Hot Dirty Chai. Another friend chose the Honey Bee Latte, also over ice. The chai is amazing--it's aromatic and captures the essence of a proper chai. The Rose Chai was very good too, perfectly balanced! Overall, it's a great coffee shop with a lovely space for everyone to sit and enjoy their drinks.

Service is great and you can scan the QR code for their menu. For brunch, they have a lot of options from crêpes to omelettes. This place is not a BYOB but they have plenty of non-alcoholic drinks and mocktails on the menu. Decor is modern, airy, and of course - pink! They also have a separate café and pastry counter if you're just stopping in and want something quicker instead of sitting down. On our most recent visit, I had the Dubai chocolate pistachio crêpe, and it was really delicious, not too sweet or too rich. And I also had the strawberry Matcha, which I enjoyed. I think this is a great spot for a weekend date, girls brunch, or just an every day indulgence. Looking forward to my next visit.

I ordered a Chicken Caesar Wrap and waited 32minutes for it, and had to keep checking on it too. Good customer service would be the baristas coming to tell me sorry it is taking so long. Then midway i ordered another sandwich because they forgot to ring up this sandwich for the other person i came with. I asked them how long it would take and they said 5 minutes because the sandwich just had to be warmed. It took ten minutes and it was not warm. It was refrigerated temp cold. If the machines are not working they need to disclose that to the customer. Just be transparent so the customer can make an informed decision about what to order. We were the only two people there by the way. Because the second sandwich was cold, we didnt eat it and the to-go container was too small for it. I understand things happen and this is no reflection on the baristas that were working that day, however just be transparent with your customers. This is a good learning lesson is all. At the end they were kind about it but only after asking us if we liked everything. A bit of awareness and you should be able to tell its sub par service when a sandwich takes half hour at an empty cafe. The music i loved what they chose to play, however it was the same three songs on replay. I found that annoying, idk maybe thats just me. Also i was intrigued by the Avocado Toast, and its priced quite high, but its just avocado, feta, and some seasoning. Not worth the price. If there were some tomatoes and other things on it that would be a better menu option. Ok the good stuff... I had the lavender maple latte with cold foam and it was delicious, however $10. Thats expensive. The signature latte i tried also and it is good, very cardamom forward. The chicken caesar wrap was delicious and i got buffalo sauce on the side which was a good combo. I would for sure order this again. The space is nice and spacious lots of seating and comfy seating. I like there is a variety of seats, some round some square tables. And comfy lounge chairs by a fireplace. And a free water station is so nice. - After watching their opening journey online and their opening being delayed from last year to beginning of this year, im glad i got to finally try it! I dont live in this area but if i am around here again it's definitely worth to stop by there again.
