Great local establishment offering great food. The Clam Chowder soup was delicious and was a great value.

The atmosphere here is an upscale house feel. Warm and inviting on the inside. However since they removed the Dam years ago the outside view is a little, blah. We ordered the all you can eat Pan Fried Chicken Dinner ($30). This consists of a Salad or Cole slaw, Assorted crackers with butter, Buttermilk biscuits with honey, Buttered Noodles, Buttered Peas, Creamy whipped potatoes, Golden chicken gravy, and of course platter of chicken. Lets start with this warning there is a lot of butter on everything. Lets now go with the positives: the Salad was excellent and the French dressing was perfect. The mashed potatoes were extraordinary, in fact my favorite thing. The noodles were good. The biscuits were good and honey was excellent, I would have preferred yeast rolls, but still above average. Now for the bad: The Chicken was ehh. Supposedly the best chicken in Northern Michigan and made a bunch of lists. However, it was kinda dry and the coating was bland. I've had some truly delicious fried chicken in Frankenmuth and South Haven and this chicken doesn't come even remotely close. Also the crackers and butter is just strange. I don't like peas so I have no opinion on them. The person I was with had an even lesser opinion of the meal. The mashed potatoes and salad should not be the best part of the meal. That all being said the value was excellent. The service was very friendly and happy, just not efficient. The waitress kept forgetting things and maybe waitressing isn't for her. She was very pleasant though. Overall a 3 star review. Would I return? No! Not worth the drive for average chicken.

If you want a nostalgic walk back in time, Dam Site Inn hits all the marks. The interior gives sets a retro theme reminiscent of a simpler time of family dining in a nice country setting. The chicken is amazing, lightly coated and crispy. All the sides are freshly prepared. Served family style with all you can eat portions. Service is good and servers are very attentive. One of our favorites and we go every year for dinner.

Though we did not have our entire family here tonight, this place is nothing but good. The feeling you get from the second you walk in is you are taken back in time to when things were nice, and people cared about the little things. Every year the owners mother carves about 100 pumpkins, she's in the beginning phase, but the pumpkins are spectacular as you will see in my postings. The highlight of the evening I must say was our server Tom. Tom started out here as a busboy, and was promoted to server back in 2020. His brother has worked here, as well as his mother when she was younger. This is a true example of people that care about service, and are proud of what they do, as they should be as they are at the top of their class. The owner is a genuinely warm man and cares so much about his customers, and the people and his operation. Trust me when you go here it's not just a meal it's a memory that will last forever.

We have been coming here for fifty years nows. The current owners are the third generation and know how to operate a winning formula. While you can't go wrong with their chicken (delicious), don't be afraid to try the rest. Especially the seafood. The whitefish, perch and walleye are always fresh and fantastic. Strangely, they have some of the BEST fried shrimp you will ever taste. Noodles & biscuits made from scratch. It's the most requested restaurant visit at our cottage by both family and guests!

It will not be possible for you to leave hungry. Enjoyable place to take the family (especially the grandparents ) all you can eat portions with quality, homemade taste. If you are into some retro, nostalgia like I am .. you will appreciate the interior vibe. Some may say it is dated, and that is true, but that's what provides the character of the restaurant.

As I sit here... with over 10 pieces of fried chicken in my belly sending me closer to death.... I have zero regrets.

Should we give them a heads up for large party?

I personally get reservations for parties of six or more.

    Does it have outdoor seating?

No, very large separate dining rooms in the restaurant. (They also offer carryout at least in 2020)

Specials are out, NO white fish and no scallops, shrimp Lenny was dry AF and had a drop of sauce. While pricing has gone up significantly. Service was average. Eva was our server. She did her best with the kitchen and hostess handing her lemons. Had to ask a few times for some things.. Like the scallops and had a return of web to wedge with unripe lettuce. Never got handled. We asked since nothing was gonna be done for it to be taken off the bill. Once seated we were sat at 8 top for 11 people and had to argue with the hostess and threaten to leave and then again ask our server for an additional empty table. It was resolved. Food menu is shrinking and price have gone up 20% over last year. To start we always arrive early and have a drink and pictures on the back patio . The Bartender had no idea how to make a Boulevardier. And didn't even know where to look? The ambience has become a burger and trailer park crowd. We probably won't come back until they bring back menu items, improve quality of food coming out or lower prices or expectations This is NOT the same DLB sadly. I don't normally leave reviews like this unless there are major issues that are NOT resolved at the local level. No attempts were made to correct salad issue until I asked the waitress. Dinner was better but the perfectly cooked stake but room temp and was not salted. I asked for kosher salt and it was brought out promptly. Our visit was on Thursday at 7:15 pm. No excuses for things to be this bad! I haven't been this unimpressed since eating a Mcdonald's hamburger. It's become Culver's with overpriced stakes :( Also this dining experience was on a Thursday night where the place was 3/4 full. Sadly our tradition ends with the DLB. We hoped after the last two years it could have been better. We tried but it wasn't.

There is ample parking which is complimentary, which is a plus! Love the attention to detail with the happy birthday menu. We started off with cocktails and the mussels. The mussels were so good! Never had mussels with noodles, but the combo was delicious. The crispy shallots plus the warm hot bread. Yum! For dinner, we ordered the halibut, snapper, and the pork. Everything was so good. I ordered the halibut which came with risotto. So light and flaky. My husband loved the pork tomahawk. The snapper was a hit too. We enjoyed a bottle of Riesling with our dinner. Love that it was a local Michigan wine! For dessert, we ordered the Dubai cheesecake. It was a little sweet for our liking, but the dessert options were so great. Lots to select from! What I got was a VERY small salad with a piece of flat, dry, tough, tasteless piece of meat more like a piece of sirloin than a filet. There is no way what was presented was a filet. I know filets and this was not a filet. Both the salad and the filet were plopped on a plate. No presentation either. My friend got halibut. She said it was very dry. She mentioned it to the waiter who said halibut is a dry fish. My friend responded that she knew halibut and it normally was not this dry and tasteless and the waiter simply walked away. My other friend got lobster and it came slathered in hollandaise sauce. No drawn butter. Her meal also came with two small dollops of what were supposed to be crab cakes. All of us thought our meals were terrible. We were there two years ago and our meals were fantastic. The quality has gone way down. We will not return.
