I wish all doctors were as kind, knowledgeable and caring as is Dr. Altchuler. I came to see him after a fall resulting in a broken bone in my foot. He not only gives you far more time than you'd expect from a doctor these days, that time is filled with clear, sound intelligence and a great deal of compassion. In every visit I've had with him, he went above & beyond - including analyzing foot x-rays (via text message) I had taken in the UK while my foot was healing. Yes, the office is filled with doggies. They bark when you arrive, but ultimately are quiet big furry babies. If you have problems with dogs, take that into consideration. But I had no problem whatsoever. The office staff and his assistants are efficient and respectful. If you want a big, shiny ultra modern Doctor's office, this isn't the place. It's the coziest doctor's office I've ever seen in LA/Santa Monica. But the advice is sound, the follow-up is superb and he truly cares about his patients. If anyone I loved needed a foot doctor, I would (gently) march them to Dr. Dan. They'll ultimately leave dancing in the aisles. read more

Dr Altchuler is amazing! He came very highly recommended and I went to him for a THIRD opinion when two other (very, very reputable) podiatrists could not help me. First of all, he is so sweet and kind and humble and has a natural bedside manner than puts you immediately at ease. I love his energy! Second, he explains everything...and more, to make sure you fully understand the situation. Okay...the important part: he immediately diagnosed my issue, which had actually been twice misdiagnosed and treated, as it turned out. He knew exactly what was wrong and solved it right away. And here's the kicker: he has me send a photo every morning and he always calls me right back to give his two cents. Even if it is just to say "looks good!", he calls me daily. Dr. Dan is awesome. His staff is so courteous and they truly care about you. I know he is "THE" dr for many pro basketball players and for most of the running clubs in the area. I compete in a running sport and when I have an issue he does what he can to keep me on my feet. I LOVE that he takes his time to figure out your issue and will try to avoid procedures you do not want to do. He's not pushy, but he'll give you the straight truth about your situation. In the past I couldn't POSSIBLY miss "THE BIG EVENT" and he'd nod his head and tell me what to do to be able to compete. Now, I'm past that and so when he says you shouldn't run on this, I'm actually not doing it. I think I may have shocked him. Highly recommended!!! I had never needed to a podiatrist until I went hiking and injured my heel. Thank goodness my family physician recommended Dr. Dan! He his so knowledgeable and kind; he knew just what to do to alleviate the pain and make it possible for me to walk again without crutches. I wish I had not waiting 2 1/2 months, hoping for the bone to heal on its own, suffering through crutches and the pain. All my thanks to Dr. Dan and his marvelous staff. read more

Dr. Dan has the best bedside manner, so to speak, than any other doctor I have been to bar none. He is a very good listener. His office staff is great also. I came in for pain that I was having on the bottom of my foot near my toes. This was a big problem because as I am very active; I jog every day, play basketball and go dancing often. With laser focus Dr. Dan diagnosed the problem. He had me buy a pair of cheap orthotics (about $25) which he specially modified for my problem and also he gave me a stretch to do once a day. After about 3 months the pain was completely gone; to me this is like miracle for which I am extremely grateful to Dr. Dan. Note that I I was having the problem for about a year before I saw Dr. Dan and regret that I didn't go in sooner. read more

I came in for a broken fifth meta tarsal of my right foot that took longer to heal under Dans care After making an impression of my feet, They set up an apt to dispense my orthotics after I waited several months for them to call me. I missed an apt The dr said we can't possibly call every patient to baby sit ! this is absurd, I am an OTR/L in private practice, this Dr and his office refused to discuss the possibility that they may have been over paid for orthotics after the insurance paid them a large sum and after trying to negotiate for a professional courtesy, his wife, the office staff didn't see why I couldn't pay almost 700 dollars for the orthotics ! They handled me unprofessionally and I tried to give him some feedback but he was uninterested in my opinion and said he had to make a living so he would continue to charge me if I returned to check on the status of my orthotic fitting.Something is not right with this couple . It might be time to retire. read more

My 6yr. old daughter sat in the exam room with me while one of Dr. Dan's assistants (older female, wears thick glasses) started to do the preliminary exam on her and told my daughter to take her sweater off so she could get her blood pressure (not sure why blood pressure is needed for orthotics?), my daughter didn't want to so the assistant went to GRAB her arm saying "Well I'm going to roll up your sleeves then". My daughter pulled her arm away and the assistant, WORD for WORD, said "You're going to be a little shit!". I asked the assistant if she said what she just said and she replied "Yes, I did." I took my daughter out of there right away, stopped by another exam room on the way out to tell Dr. Dan what happened, and the assistant came running up trying to play it off as a joke. What did Dr. Dan do/say? NOTHING!!! Remember, you are ALWAYS judged by the company you keep. By the way, Did I mention this was one of the filthiest doctors offices I have ever seen? read more

If zero stars were an option, I would choose that. Dr. Altchuler was extremely rude and unprofessional. I went in with heel pain and from the moment I said hello, he was condescending and insulting to the point where I was in shock and could barely speak. I had to finally ask for stretches/exercises and only then did he reluctantly show me one offered no other useful information to help my foot heal. He told me how my foot should function and very happily pointed out how my foot is out of alignment. The office is also quite dirty and he has his 5 dogs there and throws dog treats all around on the floor while fitting you for Orthotics. I prefer that my doctors are warm caretakers who are professional and knowledgeable and work in a sanitary environment. Therefore, I have switched to a new podiatrist for better care. read more

If you're experiencing foot pain, go to Dr. Dan! He WILL fix you!!! Prior to finding him about 2 years ago, I had gone though 4 other podiatrists--even UCLA doctors--and they were all pathetic. None had answers as to what was creating my pain. One even had the audacity to tell me to just take an aspirin when my foot hurts. Really? That's what they learned in medical school? But Dr. Dan is different. He's the first doctor who evaluated the way I walked and how my feet and ankles were rotating incorrectly to support my body as I took each stride. His solution was to create custom orthotics and suggested a different type of running shoe that had a ton of cushion. I made those changes and within one week, the excruciating burning nerve pain in my toes and ball of my foot disappeared. I highly recommend this doctor. He's the best! read more

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Dan for over 20 years and my kids have been going for the last 10 years. Dr. Dan and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We have all been pain free thanks to our custom orthotics and Dr. Dan's expertise. I recommend him to anyone who is experiencing pain. I had an excellent experience with Dr Dan. He diagnosed a problem I had been having by watching me walk and observing my gait, then prescribing orthotics which fixed the problem. I had been mis-diagnosed by a very highly rated orthopedic office's podiatrist and had orthotics that didn't do the job. Yes, the office is relaxed and not slick, but great views of the ocean and the staff was kind. If you don't like dogs, it's not the place for you. read more

I originally met Dr. Dan through an orthopedic surgeon, who asked, "Would you like a referral to a podiatrist that lots of us doctors use?"He's been my podiatrist ever since. He's made orthotics that not only improved my gait, but also helped prevent back pain! He's performed two foot surgeries, both successful and perhaps even more impressive is the way the staff at the Surgical Center praised his skills, professionalism and kindness. His follow up post surgery is beyond the beyond, and his staff, most of whom have been with him for years, are delightful. To respond to "Tara J." I can only agree with one point. YES, he brings his dogs to the office. If you don't like dogs and for you this is a problem, then be forewarned. In fact, Dr. Dan and his wife compete with these highly disciplined dogs in obstacle courses. If you ask him about this part of his life, you're sure to hear great stories. Dr, Altchuler fit my feet with Orthotics that really helped my bunion and plantar fasciitis . I have always had orthotics made by podiatrists but Dr Altchular's are the only ones that have helped. If you don't like dogs then this place is not for you. Personally i love dogs but would prefer not to have them in the office and would not have anything surgically done in the office as I don't feel that it is sanitary even though the office is visually clean. I do however think its worth every moment of doggy time to be there as he has truly stopped my feet from hurting .. and hey nothing is perfect :) read more

This podiatrist came highly recommended by people I trust. Unfortunately, Dr Dan did not deliver. I have a very complicated case. He was great at first, even giving me his personal cell phone number in case I ran into problems. He prescribed orthotics that ended up re-injurying an injury that I had when I came to him. I texted him as per his instructions, and he did not text me back. I texted again a week later telling him that I took the orthotics off, and he said he would call me back. It has been 3 days and no call. I am not going to waste any more time making appointments with him. I believe that patient abandonment is illegal, and that is exactly what he did. He always called or texted me until I became a challenge that he was unwilling to deal with. I never abused the right to using his cell phone. I only texted him a couple of times. I was in pretty bad pain. Really unprofessional. The office is filthy, and he brings 5-6 dogs to work with him. I love dogs, but it does not help with the cleanliness level read more
