Service was amazing. Our waitress was on top of any need we had . Prices were affordable. The burger was delicious as the turkey Swiss melt was. We got the combo platter for appetizers. The onion rings were good, the fries were good but we seemed to get the bottom of the bag. Many fries were just small pieces. The mozzarella sticks and marinara sauce were god awful. Great little restaurant that feels like a community. We were greeted upon entry and helped right away. Staff were friendly and helpful. You could tell this is a frequently visited spot for the locals, as staff and other patrons greeted each other by name on multiple occasions. Dans is an old school no frills diner with typical diner fare. They play Fox News on their TV because "that's what the owner wants". This is one factor on why I won't eat there again. The staff is kind and courteous but definitely needs more help. Tables were dirty that had been cleared and only wiped with the customer's used napkin. Many tables were left uncleared. The food was not good the eggs (scrambled) were overcooked and rubbery. My pancakes had black streaks on them. I can say that the bacon was perfect and the portion was generous. read more

I eat at Dan's about 2 times a week, they usually have great food and the prices are better than the other breakfast restaurants in the area. I went in yesterday for a pick up order and as I waited I heard a customer complain about his hash being burnt so when I got mine I checked it and mine was done right. Today I had the same order delivered and experienced what the other customer complained about. It looked like my hash was forgot about as it cooked and the bottom was black. I was able to eat half ( the top half) and my eggs were good. Dan's is my favorite breakfast spot on the Southside of Lansing so this review is not intended to denture anyone from trying them but makes sure you say lightly browned when it comes to your corned beef hash. The front of the house staff are pleasant and know their customer service. Also, Styrofoam to go containers need paper liners to prevent the hot food from melting the Styrofoam against your food. Dan's is usually worthy of 4 stars and the fact they have been so consistent in the past they were able to retain a 3 . I hope these issues are fixed and they come back to the 4 stars I have experienced in the past. read more

We've been here quite a bit for breakfast. Had a bad experience and stopped going for a while. Went back this morning for a friend's birthday breakfast and the experience was horrible. Will never be going back. Waited 10+ minutes to order drinks (there were 4 of us). Waited another 10 minutes to get drinks and order food. After 25 (or more) minutes we mentioned this to another waitress. Got our food shortly after and everything was room temperature, one order was completely wrong, 2 orders of toast had no butter and one order was drenched in butter. Stopped in with my wife for a late breakfast. I decided to try a bowl of their chicken lemon rice soup while my wife had bacon and eggs. Chicken lemon rice soup is one of my favorite things to order in a coney and I have enjoyed it in dozens of restaurants. about 30 or 40minutes later our server brought our orders to our table. My wife's breakfast looked normal enough but my soup was a different story. It didn't even resemble soup. It looked like dried out macaroni and cheese oatmeal. It was a pile of semi solid mush that was totally inedible. My wife offered me her "loaded" potato soup but when I took a spoonful of that I found it to be barely warm and considering what they considered soup,I didn't feel it was safe to eat. I guess it was "loaded" because it had a couple bacon bits and a 1/4 teaspoon of cheese on top. Another disappointment was the sausage gravy and biscuits. Missing any character and low on flavor and texture. The only bright spot in the whole ordeal was our server. She was a star but she can't control the quality of food. read more

What a pleasant surprise when we came in today. We expected much of the same as the others diners in town. But they have some unique and fresher options here. Their sausage gravy and corned beef hash are both house made. A rare find in Lansing and a way I judge a good breakfast place. I tried them both an really enjoyed them. The gravy needed a bit of pepper, but really what sausage gravy doesn't? (well, there is one place, but that's a different review ). The corned beef was great. Grabbed breakfast at Dan's this morning for the first time and had a good experience. We felt the prices were about average for breakfast, and the menu had a wide variety of options from sweet to savory. We tried the corned beef hash, which was your typical 'Hormel' type hash. We also tried the biscuits and gravy and the gravy tasted a little buttery. I tried the Mexican skillet with poached eggs. My boyfriend had the grilled chicken skillet. He felt his potatoes were a little bland, but I thought mine were ok. Both of us agreed that the portion size was huge, and the flavors were traditional. With the biscuits and gravy and corned beef hash for appetizers, we were stuffed when we left. I ended up taking most of my skillet to go. All-in-all, this spot offers a decent traditional breakfast for a reasonable price. We may come back to try the coney dogs and gyros for lunch someday! read more

Went there today just a few minutes ago and it was so many gnats flying around us we couldn't even enjoy or finish our meal before they started landing in my food. To be honest, I've only been here once. And I've lived like 10 minutes from them for so long. They don't get enough credit for how good their food it. The time that I went there I had the stuffed French toast. It was very good, so thank you to our wonderful server who recommended it to me. Great great service today! As usually is, just a hiccup or two in the many many times we have been here! I can't recommend this place highly enough! You can go to a place that is more expensive, has better atmosphere and food that doesn't taste half as good as this place does! This is the REAL hidden gem in Lansing! Owners actually listen to the customers! Also, let's cut some slack to our hard working and understaffed places right now (not that this is the case at dans). Small businesses are struggling and this place has not missed a beat with quality one bit! But I see now that it is tough to find help. So be kind and patient and support local! read more

The Best Breakfast Burrito I have ever eaten is at Don's. Not too spicy and not bland. I usually stay away from pickled jalapeño but in this burrito it is just right. There are potatoes in there too and they are cooked perfectly with crunchy brown edges, the meat is flavorful without the salty taco spice mix other places put in it. The person who came up with this combination know what they're doing. The service is great and since it isn't too crowded at 8:30 am, it feels relaxed. The atmosphere is casual; you seat yourself and within 30 seconds a waitress is at your side asking what you would like to drink and handing you a menu. Speaking of which, the entire menu is available all day (I had coney dogs at 9:30 a.m. just because I could.) My wife had a traditional breakfast. The bacon was incredible. If I could give this place zero stars for service, but five stars for food I would. Out of towners who stopped on our way to our destination, saw Dan's had a good rating so decided this was the place for us. Boy was I wrong. Ordered our food, which did come out fairly quickly. The waitress had to make 4 different trips to bring out 4 orders. After our food was dropped off our waitress decided to have another girl check on us, while she enjoyed a cigarette and then decided to play on some sort of video game that I assume was meant for the customers, surrounded by the dishwasher and or cook. A little unprofessional if you ask me. The girl who took over after our blonde waitress disappeared was very nice. She did a good job of picking up her co workers slack. Great food! One of my go to favorite diners in the area. The cheeseburger and fries and to die for. The burgers are nice and juicy and the condiments are always fresh. The fries have a nice crunch to them that no one around has. Servers are always nice, though I have had to wait quite a while for a pickup order so order ahead of time.
