BEWARE of the SAUSAGE GRAVY!!! I brought back my food to show them the raw sausage in the sausage gravy, and was told they boil their sausage. Having worked in the restaurant industry for 15+ years, 5 years being at IHOP, I know the difference between raw sausage and a slight pink. The sausage was fully pink, only the casing was kind of white. I was not given an apology, offered a refund, nor offered a new meal. Just told that they boil their sausage, as if boiling sausage eliminates any food borne illness even if the sausage is still raw. I walked in assuming it was a mistake, and they would 86 the gravy until they made a new batch, and keep others from consuming raw sausage. I also assumed they would do what I would do if I was ever in the situation of serving raw meat to someone. Starting with a sincere apology, then giving a refund, and offering a free meal as a replacement. None of the above happened. Just an explanation that they boil the sausage. The picture really doesn't do it justice, it was so pink. Not a spot of cooked sausage even around the exterior of the ground sausage. read more

We chose Fleetwood because it is one of the few brunch places open on Monday. The building could use a good spot and polish. When we entered, the first two tables we looked at to sit down were still dirty. The place was not busy, and it was well staffed. Now for the good stuff: our waitress was speedy, patient, polite, and attentive. The food was warm, plentiful for price, and flavorful. The coffee was delicious as always. For a standard diner with loads of comfort food, Fleetwood serves. I do wish they took some time during COVID shutdowns to have done a DEEP clean. If memory serves, the bathrooms are kind-of gross, so I usually try to avoid if possible. If they cleaned up their place, it could be a five star place! read more

I stopped here for dinner on a Monday night at 5:50 pm. I was seated right away and was given a menu. The menu was huge, there was something on there for everyone. I ordered the Roast Beef "Leftover". It was sliced roast beef over two pieces of Texas toast and covered in gravy. It was served with mashed potatoes. It should be noted that the photo on the menu showed mashed potatoes with no skin, yet the potatoes that were severed were loaded with potato skin. They tasted OK, I just don't care for a bunch of skin in my mashed potatoes. The roast beef was good along with the gravy. Overall, I was underwhelmed with this dish, I liked the restaurant and would give them another try. The next time I think I'll go with the turkey. read more

We've lived in East Lansing for a few years and have heard some good things about Fleetwood Diner, especially their unique menu items that you won't find anywhere else in town. Unfortunately, none of the items we tried were worth writing home about and the quality/portions were quite meager considering their cost. But my all time favorite is the Hippie Hash. Instead of Corned Beef Hash (which they also do well, with a homemade vibe), it is veggies, chopped broccoli, onion, fresh mushrooms, taters etc with feta chees spread across the top. Took a short little trip to Lansing and stopped by the Fleetwood Diner on the way back home for breakfast. Very cool retro styling on the outside is what brought me in! Ordered their normal breakfast special. Everything was just as you'd expect it to be. Since I've never been here before it was a little confusing when you walk in. They have some sort of tablet with a funky user interface that you're supposed to check in with and wait until they text you when your table is ready. It was all very confusing. Those are the positives. Now, unfortunately for the negatives. The place itself was dirty, the bathrooms were disgusting. There were numerous flies around the windows. My scrambled eggs were watery and I could not eat them. The bacon was super salty and I couldn't eat that either. I ordered a side of sausage gravy and what came was a bowl full of lumpy sticky goo. It had barely any flavor. The price of all this mostly non edible food was over $12. For 3 of us breakfast cost $56!! There is no way it was worth that much. From a distance, you see the red neon glow emanating from the intersection of Ashley and Liberty street. You get closer and notice a large neon sign atop a small, dilapidated, aluminum clad shed. Oh, it's a diner. A 24/7 diner. Now we are talking. Apparently, Fleetwood diner is a quintessential Ann Arbor establishment. A hole in the wall diner with the footprint of a large box truck. Inside, it's small. Almost claustrophobic. The tables nearly on top of each other. The waitress bumped into me every time she walked by. The walls are covered with years of stickers from bands with obscure names. The kitchen occupies this same rectangular space with a hot top behind a small bar top seating area. There is a set of stairs leading down to a basement area which supposedly contains the bathroom. I haven't yet the nerve to venture down into the labyrinth beneath. I have stopped by a couple of times post-bar and the food has been great and the service quick. Their menu contains a variety coney-esque diner foods. Their specialty, the "hippie hash". Both my visits were on post-midnight weeknights and this diner was packed. The rest of downtown was a ghost town at this time. I opted for one of the hashes, the gyro hippie hash in particular. This dish consisted of a bed of hash browns mixed with some thin squares of gyro meat, green peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, and onions. This was all topped with a generous portion of feta. A delicious mix of carbs and protein to help wrap up a night of imbibing. Before I discovered Fleetwood, I always thought Ann Arbor was lacking such an establishment. With no chains like National or Leos downtown, it fits in perfectly on the edge of the bar district. Will definitely eat here again in the future. read more

Okay so my review is pre-COVID. I LOVE this place, and enjoyed going here as a student while living in Lansing. Whenever I'm in the area, I make it a point to return because there are so many things on the menu that are nothing short of delicious. What has me coming back is the hippie hash. You need it in your life. The pancakes and stuffed French toast are great additions to the breakfast (or anytime) menu, and my go-to midnight snack was the senator fries. As a Canadian ex-pat, this was close enough to poutine to hit the spot. Most of all, the servers are so attentive, sweet, and your beverages never go empty. Someone is always around and more than happy to top off your coffee, you don't even have to ask. read more

The waitress gave me a great recommendation, checked how I liked the food, added to their recommendation, and did what they could to give me an amazing dining experience. Hey we are from Chicago and if you are in Lansing Michigan don't go to the People's Kitchen. Turn right around and go to Fleetwood Diner. The waitresses were exceptional. She made sure we kept coffee and water. She checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we need. As we were done eating she removed any glasses or plates that were not being used anymore. And all of our food was a 10/10. I had a bacon egg cheese on egg whites. Whenever I'm back in Lansing I'll be sure to revisit this establishment. And to think we went to the Peoples kitchen first and got treated bad. Thank God for having a back up plan. read more

This is a quant little 50s inspired Diner that was the only place in town that was open. I walked in and visited this place at 1am on a Wednesday craving some guilty pleasures. I felt like I was in some weird small town comic book, as everyone seemed to know everyone. It was basically a non-entertaining version of Cheers. To the food, right? Okay, so I ordered the Fleetwood Half & Half. Its comprised of have ground beef and half ground bacon. I've never had ground bacon so it was a must try. The combo gave it a meeting of the almost a breakfast sausage taste, and the familiar savoring dance of the burger taste. I slapped some cheese on it, and it was served with mayo, tomato and fresh crunchy lettuce. We grabbed some fried mushrooms, which usually have a tendency to be watery on the inside due to the mushroom acting as a sponge for juices but these were nice and crispy. To top it off we were served fresh warm pita bread and Saganaki (flaming cheese). To cool down the pan they add lemon juice which is customized, but there was just a tad too much lemon for my taste. Still, once you muster up the courage to add the cheese and bread, it comes together as a salty, citrusy tango. read more

Fleet woods' famous dish, "The hippie hash" lived up to its reputation. It was satisfying to my breakfast craving. The hash includes multiple variety of vegetables whereas other places only provide limited options for a hash brown. It puts this place on the map in Michigan. My coffee came fresh and often even when I ordered it at midnight. The chicken gyro came out delicious and satisfied my hunger. The French fries were great, and thankfully upon returning my mashed potatoes, I was able to experience how delicious they were. Cooked to a crispy perfection. The wait staff was accommodating and nice and quick to take our order. Would recommend to come here especially if new to the Lansing area. read more
