I'm going to surprise the world and give a Toyota Dealership a five-star review. It's not because…read moreI loved Toyota vehicles thanks to a Business professor I had at UMass, and it's not because I was advised they break down less by a tow driver. This review is especially not because of Toyota's complicity in bending the knee, or because they financed a loan my family was good for after our last Toyota was totaled. No. I'm going to give Lia Toyota of Northampton a five star review because they were there for us to help us part with our old RAV4 Hybrid SUV after local wildlife died inside. There you have it: grief, and death. All this can happen in what's typically thought of as, 'an asset': your car investment. You're not driving money bags around, you're insulating your family or self within a metal chamber going at speeds that threaten life. Whole industries and lives depend upon fleets of these vehicles traveling to regular destinations, keeping a fast pace, or making long treks. To know that there's death inside your car and somebody needs to get to the bottom of it surprises me in that it only a dealership or auto expert are capable when it's a dead animal. And Lia did so for us. I gave their repair shop grief, imagining that there was some awful coincidence between our car becoming a gravesite after we finished regular maintenance. Instead, with the weather as it is everywhere, cars are where animals will end up as an escape. I probably was not their first distraught customer, a customer not sure of what the world does with an inhospitable vehicle for transport. Lia, who had been doing maintenance on our car for some time and continues to on our new vehicle, held our hand through the process of discovering our loss. They took apart this car piece by piece once they knew there was mechanical failure. What was left was a sad story of loss that Lia traveled with us as we had to lose a vehicle to another natural disaster besides a flood. The amount of humanity and kindness that Nathan and the other staff at Lia showed me they are more than mechanists, they were car doctors for us and the whole industry of automobiles. I can only blame this on hiring locally, and years of expertise within the auto industry. I don't think we're done grieving our loss. I owe it to Lia that I can tell the story to Yelp, since you all are going to bring or buy your vehicle here, with Lia, and I can pray they keep this heart throughout the new developments in used and new auto sales.

Went on to suggest that I stop there last and "we will beat whatever price any other store gives you". OK So I showed up there last and sat down with a salesman and explained that I was there with my foot in the door and requested their best price. I made it clear that I was shopping for best price. After a wait, he came back with a proposal that showed the full sticker price, no discount, and to add insult to injury, he added $1,995.00 for under coating AND $995.00 for Zurich Seal!! I just got up and left. As I was leaving he sarcastically said "thanks for the respect"

The process from start to finish was flawless and we are happy with our car. The service dept put tires on a few days after and noticed the brakes were going to be needing to be replaced soon so David, the general manager, took it upon himself to authorize the repair without a charge. I would highly recommend Northhampton VW and especially Jason Leclair as a salesperson. Any dealer would be proud to have 8 of him.

They say they can't fix the issue and are "waiting on corporate." They refused to provide a loaner car, or refund any of my high payments to help alleviate the issue, and just told me to contact corporate myself as if it's my job and not theirs. It also has a number of other irritating issues such as, the back handles hurt your hands when you try to open the door if it's not unlocked, there is no proper button to unlock all 4 doors at the same time, it give notifications that are not accurate for no reason, and the key fob flies off your keychain unexpectedly so very easy to lose it. When I bring in the car, the staff looks at each other knowingly and says "ID4 issues." So yeah I feel like they knowingly sold me a problem vehicle just to get it off the lot. Definitely not going to lease or buy from these guys again.

The sales team there has a woman named Melissa who pretends to pay attention to you but is actually entirely unreliable, lies, won't answer her phone or find ways to make your situation simple. The car was to be registered on a Friday in Connecticut but wasn't till the following Tuesday. The car was to be delivered on that Wednesday but didn't till the following Tuesday. In store the sales manager saw I was wearing a retired military hat and started a politically charged conversation that we (he and I) were "like-minded People". My wife looked at me and said, "you need to stop wearing those hats." During the 1 1/2 weeks waiting to get the GV70 we had difficulty getting any status, blame went all around, CT DMV scheduling, Prep people didn't work on the car. While this was going on I must have received, 6+ calls asking me if they could do anything to have me purchase a new Genesis. I kept explaining that we already did purchase a GV70 and still didn't have it. On the day of the delivery, we had a call about 15 Minutes before it arrived. We asked the drivers if they could help us with the setup. We were certainly surprised when they said, "we don't know anything about these cars" and left, they didn't want to put our plates on because the gentleman couldn't bend down or go on one knee at the time. To top it off we found lots of delivery plastic throughout the car and the car exterior was dirty, it was supposed to have a ceramic coating, we called the salesperson for a certificate, he said he would send it, we never got it. We took the car to a dealer friend, and he said it wasn't applied. FYI we also paid for the service agreement -and were getting numerous call s after 4 weeks of ownership to bring it in for its first service. We told the service person the car only had 300 miles on it. Since then, we haven't heard anything from the dealer in 8 months, the car is not our primary vehicle and has 3000K on it. If you were planning on purchasing a Genesis from the Northampton dealership I would not recommend it.

But, through no fault of his own, when I took possession of the vehicle, he was not available and I had to deal with a woman who I believe was the sales manager at the time (it appears she has since quit, which is a very good thing). She drowned me in a flood of verbiage, nearly all of which was either confusing, manipulative, or irrelevant. She wasted a ridiculous amount of my time, to a large extent because she was running her mouth about her family and other personal anecdotal material that was of zero interest to me and of zero pertinence to the transaction that was supposed to be taking place. I have rarely met someone so utterly incapable of reading a room: despite my polite, yet persistent, attempts to make it clear that I just wanted to complete the sale and be on my way, she continued to run her mouth, about herself, endlessly. To add insult to injury, I got the distinct impression that she truly believed that she was being "charming" and "personable." Worst salesperson ever. I have just discovered that the dealership is closing. No surprise there, the place was clearly a chaotic mess. I have absolutely no intention of having my car serviced at their sister dealership, Northampton Volkswagen. If you are a Volvo or Volkswagen owner, I urge you to look elsewhere for service. Just read the yelp reviews about Northampton Volkswagen-- many, many of which are not just mixed or even negative, but scathing. Efficiency problems, competence problems, honesty problems, personality problems...it's all there in the reviews. There is something very, very deeply wrong. Beware.

After trying elsewhere and regretting it, we're back because the difference here is real. Desiree in Service was exceptional while helping us with our CR-V that we purchased from another dealer. She was patient, communicative, knowledgeable and made sure nothing was overlooked. She genuinely cared about getting it done right, not fast. The real reason we trust Lia Honda, though, is their Honda-certified mechanic. Absolute beast. The level of expertise, accuracy, and confidence in diagnosing and repairing our vehicle was unmatched. This is what real Honda knowledge looks like -- and it's exactly why paying more here is worth it. Alfredo Settembre in Sales made the purchase of our new Civic smooth and stress-free. Honest, knowledgeable, and respectful -- no pressure, just professionalism. You may pay more at Lia Honda, but you're paying for top-tier expertise, accountability, and peace of mind. We won't make the mistake of going elsewhere again.

It really seems that they are dishonest and corrupt. Every time we have brought our car there, within a week we need to return for a new problem that didn't exist previously. This last time, they replaced some tires. The next day within 1 hour the brakes seized. Either your inspection was inadequate and you put us back on the road in an unsafe car, or you broke something during the repair. They charged us a diagnostic inspection fee ($90), even though they had the car less than 24 hrs earlier. They then wanted $3000 for new brakes. Huh? You didn't see that when the wheels were off, and you want to charge us for a diagnostic inspection. No thanks. I will never use this unscrupulous business again for service. We are going to be replacing this car soon with another Honda soon, but they have lost our business. It's a shame because I would like to keep business local and tax dollars local, but I cannot support them any more. Too bad.

Prior to taking it in, I had my battery tested twice by two different people. Both of them said the battery was fine. The dealership didn't even look at the starter and told me my battery was dead. I payed 661 dollars to get a battery replaced that was working perfectly fine before I took it in. The next day when I tried to start the car, it wouldn't start. So I brought it back in and they finally fixed the starter for me. Another 591 dollars. As I drove it out of the parking lot of the dealership, I immediately began hearing a loud metallic grinding noise coming from the engine compartment. I can only deduce one of two things from this experience. Either there is a deliberate effort amongst the management to completely scam people out of money, OR the technicians here have no idea what they're doing. Don't ever bring your car here for service. Worst experience of my life. I spent 1300 dollars to get a starter replaced, and now it looks like they decided to break something else while it was there so I have to take it somewhere else and spend even more money. I feel like I was robbed. I'd hire a lawyer and sue but at this point I'm completely broke because they took all my money.
