'And now throw in civil unrest due to yet another senseless death of a black person, George Floyd. It's always good to know a local mechanic that you can trust... Along with a doctor, painter, attorney, and plumber; the basics. It was time to get my brakes worked on; wanted to try & take the car somewhere else besides the dealership. Many people say there are better and less $$ options out there. However, the challenge is finding a shop that is fair & honest. CDE Auto Repair (California Desert Engines) A few neighbor friends mentioned, CDE Auto Repair; they've been taking their cars to this local mechanic for over 15 years. Hours: MON: By Appointment TUE - FRI: 7:30am - 5:00pm SAT: 8:00am - 3:00pm SUN: Closed CDE has been in operation since the mid-eighties and tenure says a lot about a business; especially an automatic repair shop. The best advertising is word of mouth. If CDE wasn't doing a good job, I don't think the shop would've lasted all this time. BB, a long time customer of CDE vouched for the owner, Tony. She followed me down to his shop one evening after hours to drop the car off to get new brakes. I spoke with Tony the next morning; he gave me an estimate for cost & time to complete and by 5pm the car was ready to be picked up. (Thumbs up) Overall, very happy with the work and price; great value. Tony is a very down-to-earth guy, straight forward and upfront. He explained that when the maintenance code lights up on your engine for a "routine checkup," a lot of that can be done later rather than sooner. It's part of their business model. The day after picking up the Honda, I took it to get the tires rotated @ the local COSTCO; the department manager asked, "Who last removed your wheels?" I told him that I just had my brakes done. The manager told me the lug nuts were on too tight; possibly done without a torque wrench or incorrect setting. His guy had a hard time removing them. If not carefully done; you can easily snap off the lug. (Truth; I know form experience.) I'm glad they were able to get the wheels off without anything breaking. During the safety inspection they found a few major items that needed to be fixed. They kept me appraised of the individual issues, what my options and what the costs were. They took the time to explain what was wrong and what the repairs meant as I am not mechanical. I highly recommend Rincon (repair technicians) and both Kevin and Tom are exceptional in their knowledge and customer service. I have called from Montana, Georgia, North Sydney (Nova Scotia, CA) and Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario, CA) on various cross country trips and they have been able to advise me what to do - Kevin even looked up and found out the DEF sensor was still under warranty by Cummins and that saved us over $1,800 in repairs costs.

2020 Ram 5.7 owner here. I was made aware of some dried purple stains below my water pump recently…read moreby my mechanic during my service visit. I crawled under my truck to have a look but could not see anything actively leaking from the water pump, even though that is the point of origin. No motor components above the water pump have water passing through them. I called Tuttle Click Ram in Tustin to see if the water pump had to be actively leaking to get it replaced under their 100K bumper to bumper warranty, even though the purple coolant stains are originating at the water pump. One of their service writers I've worked with in the past, told me it absolutely has to be actively leaking to get it replaced under warranty. I sat on Tuttle Clicks response for a couple days frustrated they look for any way to wiggle out of taking care of a warranty problem. I gave Coastline Ram a call, told their service writer the exact same thing I explained to Tuttle Click's service writer in Tustin. Instead of giving me the run around, Coastline said they would absolutely be able to replace the water pump under warranty but would pressure test the cooling system to verify the leak - standard, prudent protocol. Tuttle Click never gave me that option. Kudos to Coastline Ram! Fast forward a few days, brought my truck to Coastline for the scheduled leak check/repair, the service write asked me if there were any other concerns I wanted them to look at since I had a $100 deductible. I also mentioned I was getting the notorious 5.7 hemi lifter noise intermittently. Coastline called me later that afternoon to inform me the water pump was being replaced under warranty, as well as, all the lifters. I have to give high praise to Coastline Ram for making their service writers accessible by phone. As a contrast, Tuttle Clicks service writers are almost impossible to get a hold of, & they're horrible at returning calls. I would highly recommend Coastline Ram for their helpfulness, and willingness to make warranty repairs!

Both were professional and easy to work with, and I was very happy with the purchase and the deal. Unfortunately, the post-delivery experience was disappointing. I discovered cosmetic issues shortly after delivery, and to Coastline's credit, they agreed to address them. The final door repair came out excellent--I honestly cannot tell it was ever repaired. Getting to that result, however, took several weeks, multiple trips totaling over 200 additional miles, fuel and toll expenses, and inconsistent communication that often required me to reach out for updates. The worst part was the dealer-provided loaner. I reported electrical/startup problems and requested a replacement, but the Jeep ultimately broke down and left me stranded in the middle of the desert for nearly three hours. I had to arrange my own transportation, including having someone drive approximately 120 miles to pick me up. After everything was completed, I reached out regarding the overall experience and possible goodwill for the additional inconvenience and expenses. I was disappointed with management's response and no additional consideration was provided. Overall, Coastline deserves credit for ultimately correcting the original issues and for the excellent quality of the final repair. The initial sales experience was also very good. Unfortunately, the communication, loaner experience, and overall customer care afterward fell well short of expectations.
