So glad I happened to stumble upon Dancing Spoons! I was looking to grab dinner with a friend in San Gabriel, and this spot popped up on Yelp. The photos looked pretty solid, so we decided to give it a try. We came around 6:30 PM on a Tuesday evening, and there was no line. It's a pretty small casual dining spot, but I'd say the food is worth a visit! We ordered the green curry w/ beef and the pad thai w/ chicken. The meat was quite tender, and the pad thai had a nice level of sauciness without the noodles being too drenched. My main qualm is that I wish the green curry came with a slightly larger portion of rice. The owner was also very personable & the food came out in about 15-20 minutes. For the price (after taxes ~$20.00), I'd probably pass on this spot unless its for a special occasion. Knocked a star off mainly for the portion size. When you order an entrée, you usually hope there's enough to share, but the portions here are just okay in value for price. $$ Service is nice and ambiance is nice inside. Definitely ask for chili on the side and request no spice. Even their "mild" is really spicy like coughing, hard-to-eat spicy. On the plus side, there's plenty of seating, the place is clean, complimentary water, and free parking. Since I was in the area dropping someone off and I was hungry for dinner I decided to stop by and try some Thai food. The interior is very small but I was able to get a table to myself. I ordered my favorite Thai dish which is chicken Pad Thai. According to the menu they serve, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese food. The one item itself was enough to fill me up so for under 20 dollars you can have a fulfilling meal. We came for their mango sticky rice. They have a kiosk at the front where you can place your own order. At first, we ordered it wrong since we clicked the sweet sticky rice ($6.95). We didn't see the mango sticky rice option but the owner/lady told us after we already paid for it. So we had to pay another $10 to add the mango which worked out in the end. The mango sticky rice was pretty good. There is condensed milk over the sticky rice, and the sweetness was just right. The mangoes were just ripe (slightly unripe at parts) but still good overall. Dancing Spoons had long been on my list of places to try... years even! I finally had a chance to try it with a few friends, and I had their Chicken Mussaman Curry and tried my friend's Pad Thai, too. These are some classic staples that I enjoy. Service was relatively quick since it was a quieter time of the day. The Chicen Mussaman Curry was easily on the sweeter side, and there wasn't much of a kick. The portion sizing was good, and everything tasted as expected - sweetness tolerable. However, I looked across the table and to my dismay my friend's Pad Thai was half eaten - not a single thread of interest to to-go it, either. Shocked, I asked if I could finish it; I hate wasting food. A bite in, I realized that this was indeed way too sweet. The chef that day must've had heavy hands! The ambience is warm and inviting. They have a good selection of Thai favorites and the pad see ew is some of the best I've had in a long time. I've tried both the chicken and beef and both really good. The crab rangoons are amazing especially paired with the sauce it comes with. Located in the Mission District, with minimal parking on a busy street. Be careful reversing, cars come quickly around the bend. There's street parking, but it can get tough finding one if it's too packed around the area. I ordered take-out via their website. I ordered the Japanese Tonkatsu Curry, and it was delicious. I got an order of the fried rice and I thought it was decent. The portions are enough for two meals or two people to share. The food was good. I have no complaints. The food definitely checked the box of "wok hei" when it comes to fried rice. I could see myself coming back to try other items. I really like that they have beef pad see ew on the menu without any additional up charge. The food took about 10-15 mins after we ordered to come out so if you're in a rush, be prepared to wait. I love khao soi. There are alot of places to get it in the Long Beach area but not many places in the 626. When I heard there was a place by the San Gabriel Mission that sold it, since I was nearby, I had to come and try. I've been here before specifically for the mango sticky rice, but now it was for the khao soi. I was greeted and was told I could choose from 4 different proteins for the dish. I've had it with chicken, but I wanted to try it with shrimp this time. The dining area is relatively small. 3 tables, a drinks fridge, and an ice cream trunk. My khao soi was brought out to me and I noticed the shrimp weren't just bare, they put a slight batter on them to give a little crisp texture which I liked. That first sip hit me with that khao soi flavor I know and love. The noodles were thin for this location, almost instant ramen thin. The other places, they used slightly thicker...but I noticed I didn't get full as fast here...the thickness is probably why. I loved how they put a split hard-boiled egg in there! Eggs are always awesome. It also had the traditional chopped shallots and pickled greens. Could of done without the sprinkle of cilantro on top, but that's just my personal preference. We got there at around 1ish and I asked her what time happy hour starts. She said 2pm you going to wait 20 mins? Well duh, why would I not want to wait like 15-20 mins to save over $10?? Other spots would nicely reply with something along the lines of "sure, I'll put your order in for 2pm happy hour". Her response totally rubbed me the wrong way. Anyways, the food is below average. They put like 5 pieces of tiny white meat chicken for the Japanese chicken curry, and the spicy chicken basil was overly salted. The best part of the meal was not the fried tofu but the sauce for it. If you're a big hungry man or a big eater like me, one of these happy hour sized plate will not be enough for you. I did think flavor was okay but after getting diarrhea multiple times, we stopped. There is not enough business so usually places like this have food that isn't as fresh. That's why. On a Monday morning in February. I was craving for this pad Thai so I ordered on their website. The ordering was easy to use and I set a time and picked it up. Street Parking on a Monday wasn't too bad. Inside the space was small with few tables inside and outside. My lunch was ready at the counter. A hidden gem in the SGV!! The food gives a homey and authentic vibe! I tried the pad Thai, yellow curry, and Japanese katsu curry. The favorite was definitely the yellow curry due to the deep depth of flavor. I also really enjoyed the pad thai, but it was on the sweeter side for pad thai. Small but cheerful and bright place, Dancing Spoons is a Thai & Japanese fusion Cafe, by San Gabriel City Hall/across from the San Gabriel Mission. It's tiny, so only a couple small tables inside. One staff person taking orders, she was friendly and seemed kind, though a bit overwhelmed as it was a bit busy for lunch. I'm guessing that they are family owned, had a homey vibe to the place! Food was quite tasty & flavorful - ordered the Prik King Chicken, Spicy Basil Chicken & Pad Kra Pow. A bit on the pricier side for the size, but I liked the added fried egg in the rice dishes, and I'm all for supporting small businesses! They also had Thai tea, of course, and they were able to adjust sugar levels and kindly wrote that on the lids. I also found this delicious yuzu & white peach soda! We also saw a customer with kids in tow order before us, that got a bit upset with her order when she got it, and watch the one who took her order handle it very well, even though it wasn't their fault. I was impressed at how calm she was and how quickly she offered to provide replacements or alternatives, even though the customer herself made mistakes in her ordering, but blamed the staff. We made sure to assure the staff person it wasn't her fault at all. But even though she wasn't treated kindly, she was able to be understanding and chalked it up to the customer being distracted by her kids Classy response! Right in the heart of Mission District. Parking could be found within walking distance. The restaurant is small, they have hall way and patio seating. The interior is clean without clutter. The food could be ordered thru the tablet kiosk or cashier. The food took slightly longer than expected. The food was good, but the best Thai food you can find but I really like their dirty Thai tea. Very taste without being overwhelmingly sweet. Service is semi self served; they do bring your dishes to your table. Employees have good attitude, so no complaints here. I've been here three times just for the green Thai iced tea and it's always fragrant and creamy. I walk to factory tea bar and buy some boba for 72¢ and then my treat is all ready to go! this thai place was pretty solid in comparison to all the other thai places i've tried. i ordered a variety of dishes, and everything was delicious. the pad thai was packed with flavor, perfectly stir-fried with fresh veggies and tender meat. the crab rangoons were addictive--crunchy on the outside and filled with a tasty filling inside. i also got a chicken massaman curry that had the perfect balance of spice and creamy coconut. the papaya salad was fresh and tangy, a nice contrast to the richer dishes. the service was fantastic; the staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure i had everything i needed. my drink came out quickly, and they even checked in to make sure everything tasted good. highly recommend this spot if you're craving authentic thai flavors with excellent service. i'll definitely be coming back! read more

So glad to have this Thai restaurant so close to home to get my Pad Thai fix... 5 stars!!!!! The dishes at Dancing Spoons will make your taste buds dance! My favorites include the Tom Yum Soup, Shrimp Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Spicy Basil Chicken, and Sweet Garlic Pork. All delicious with good flavor, not to mention generous portions as well as pretty reasonably priced. An order of any of these three offerings is more than enough for dinner as well as lunch the following day for two! Have also tried the Pineapple Fried Rice, but probably would not order it in the future. Haven't had Pineapple Fried Rice before, and I guess I'm just more of a fan of the typical Chinese Fried Rice or Filipino Garlic Fried Rice. You order at the counter at Dancing Spoons, and there are only a couple of small tables inside as well at outside. It's more of a pick up type place since the food is served in to-go containers even if dining in. Dancing Spoons is located just a few feet from the San Gabriel Mission and Theater, so it's definitely a good choice for a meal if you're in the area. Parking is street parking only, but I never had an issue finding a spot. Make sure to order ahead on the phone if doing pick up. When they're not too busy, the food is usually available within ten to fifteen minutes.
