Little did I know that I could have stayed close to home in greater downtown Yuba City and expanded my culinary horizons right here at the Dancing Tomato Caffè. A friend recommended the Rustic Penne Pasta and I was not dissappointed. I took my sisters and mom here to celebrate my sister's birthday. Me and my sister ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken and mushrooms. My other sister ordered just the fettuccine alfredo. The noodles was not cooked all the way in the sauce was lacking flavor. I've had fettuccine alfredo out of a box that we had better flavor than this. To add chicken to the fettuccine alfredo it was an additional $4. The service was a very lacking the waitress only came to our table 3 times. The first time was for drinks the second time was to take our order and the last time was to give us our checks. If I could give it no stars I would this is definitely not a place that I will be returning to. read more

I went for lunch today with my wife because she had a good experience here the one other time she ate at Dancing Tomato Caffe. I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but my Veal Parmesan was the texture of what I imagine a 10 speed bicycle tire would be like if you were to chew one. My server Dallace asked if I wanted a replacement or would I like to order something else. I elected a replacement because maybe it was a bad cut in the batch. The second veal parm was slightly tender but was served at room temperature as was the penne with meat sauce. I ate maybe 10% of the food before asking for the check. Dallace didn't seem to be too concerned that I didn't eat my $19 meal and refused a to-go box. My wife was whelmed with the Thai-talian pizza. Again I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but based off this experience and lack of concern by the server is enough to stop me from returning. read more

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible service! I came here one evening while in the area on business and ordered their soup, salad and garlic bread combo. It took over 30 minutes before my meal arrived...for something so simple I thought this was a little extreme. My waitress was awful, it took her 15 minutes to bring me crackers for my soup. I will say that the minestrone soup was pretty good. I also got the spinach salad which did not impress me. There was more toppings then spinach. The bacon looked old and the eggs were gray. My husband and I always go here on the weekends to eat their breakfast. It is absolutely delicious. I have never had a bad breakfast from there. However I will say the wait staff do leave something to be desired. During breakfast time it often takes close to 10 minutes to be seated and it's typically not even that busy. This last weekend we had a group walk out after waiting for quite some time to be seated, and it was only three people. What a treat! My husband and I just got back and we loved it! We started off with their Tomato Mozzarella Appetizer, which we both really liked!! My husband ordered a Pastrami Calzone and he said it was one of the top Calzones that he's ever had! I ordered their Dtc Butter Shrimp with Linguine and a dinner salad and garlic bread. Wow!! Dancing tomato has really gone downhill. I've been a loyal customers of theirs since they opened. In fact, it used to be my favorite restaurant in the area and one of the best Italian restaurants I've tried. Their customer service is great, but their food is no where as good as it used to be. The servings are a lot smaller now, the sauces are not as flavorful, food is packed sloppy, and you have to pay additional money for extra garlic bread (I confirmed this with the manager) whereas before it used to be free with your order. I've never had to pay for extra garlic bread so I was surprised to find out it costs extra now. The last time I ordered from here, I agreed to pay more for the extra garlic bread and this is what they gave me (see photo). The garlic bread was so thin and brittle, it should have been free. This has happened on more than one occasion. I thought maybe I'd try the place again, but this place disappoints every time. I know the chef has changed, my guess is management has as well because they don't seem to care enough about making changes. I've given dancing tomato so many chances because I really do like their food, but there is always something disappointing about my order and they just lost a long time customer. I used to recommend this place to family and friends but I don't anymore. I was embarrassed when my friend told me she door dashed from here and had 10 pieces of penne noodles in her entire dish. My review comes with 1 star for customer service. The waitresses are always nice but everything else really needs improvement. If I'm going to pay extra for a side of sauce, please give me my moneys worth. If I'm going to pay extra for garlic bread, please make a note on your website or menu, don't surprise me with another $2 on my bill for paper thin bread. Also, please check to go orders and make sure the boxes are closed all the way so the customer doesn't have to deal with a big brown bag saturated with sauce. read more

Day trip! Left Sac with a desire for biscuits and gravy that we discovered from their other spot Cafe Italia which closed in Davis (). I ordered the Lobster Benedict and my husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, both complemented by a Bloody Mary. I'll start by saying the drink was the best I'd ever had! Absolutely delicious. This set my expectations pretty high while waiting for our food. I was very disappointed by the Benedict. Lobster had a fishy taste--it wasn't even close to fresh. The hollandaise sauce was bland. The English muffin it was served on was soggy and mushy. Eggs and cooked spinach were served luke warm. I tried my husband's Chicken Fried Steak which was very crisp and flavorful-one of the best I've had. The gravy was delicious. Potatoes on the side were very bland and undercooked. I probably wouldn't go back unless I was set on having a great Bloody Mary. Our server also wasn't all that spectacular. Very short and impersonal with us. read more

Let's face it, Yuba City is close to a gourmet wasteland. If you want a nice dinner, you probably need to drive an hour north to Chico or an hour south to Sacramento for something really decent. On the other hand, the Dancing Tomato has a warm and friendly atmosphere, an extensive menu, and a willingness to welcome large parties with lots of screaming children. (Trust me, I have led those parties in here.) Servings are obscenely generous, of the sort that could feed a small Asian village. I had a craving for spaghetti so I decided to try the Dancing Tomato. The food here is really bad. Cold spaghetti with VERY salty meat sauce sitting in water. I emptied the water into a glass. The sauce came out of a can for sure. The garlic bread (?) Is a sandwich roll cut in half and slathered with garlic butter, not toasted like authentic Italian garlic bread. There were so many sliced beets on top of the salad that it was hard to get to the lettuce, which was not fresh. My bloody Mary cost $9.00. YIKES! Came in on Monday evening early enough to remember that there was a happy hour here. We were seated quickly and upon asking about the happy hour, were told that it was indeed true. There are no signage nor were we told about it for this encounter. I dont know how we would have been charged for our drinks and only certain drinks and beers qualify from my last experience. Thats actually all fine and good with me; thats why I asked. Our server came back quickly with our drinks and asked if we were ready to order. We asked for a minute more and she did come back within a couple minutes to take our order. The place was not busy except for the few stools in the bar, there were maybe four tables dining. We ordered onion rings and for dinner we decided on a large, what is called 'cafe pizza', basically a combo pizza. I specifically asked as I do at every with every pizza I order, "please no onion except green onion"... Even more specific to the server, because sometimes they dont understand I guess; "please, no red onion, no yellow onion, no white onion. Green onion OK" She replied that she got it and understood. Fine. Soon our ONION RINGS come out..(yes, I know, its just the way Im wired) brought out by a different server. My wife had asked for ranch dressing for the onion rings and this new server did quickly oblige. We knew our pizza couldnt be too far behind and being the tight wad I am knowing happy hour was almost over, we finished our drinks for a re-order. With the empty platter that the onion rings had come on, our two dry glasses and bar prices about to double, 10 minutes was long enough and I decided we'd better flag someone down. The fellow that brought the onion rings was summoned. He asked what we were having and said he'd be right back. Another 10 minutes go by and here comes the pizza. One look told me that the damn thing was chock full of little tiny red onion and no green onion. I called whom apparently was our new server on it and he asked if I wanted him to take it back. I told him no, it took too long to get this one and Id just pick 'em off. I proceeded to do so and with the first bite every damn thing on the slice fell off onto the plate except for the cheese and sauce! What the hell, I thought. It seemed that the pizza had been at least partially cooked before the other toppings had been put on! I think somebody back there needs to go to pizza school. Well, needless to say I was real dang thirsty at this point as now it had been a full 20 minutes since we last ordered drinks. At this point, our original server comes back and asks if everything was good. I told her in fact no, it wasnt, I was having a hellofa time choking this onion pizza down with no beer that I ordered 20 minutes earlier from her counter-part. Within a minute, she had our drinks and my wife being almost as upset as I was, asked for a box. She quickly brought the said box and it was then that I stopped her and told her to look at the pizza that was brought. I said, "do you see all of those nasty onions I asked you to not have put on there?" She said she did and then proceeded to show me her electronic ticket order thing and says "look, I wrote no white onions!" To make a long story a little more tedious, in the end, I was charged happy hour prices for all the drink and she took an inexplicable $13.99 off the pizza (about 63%?) I would say that I may come back to The Dancing Tomato, but I would have to be almost out of options. It was still 100% better than the terrible Mexican place on 99 and Bridge St and 75% better than the awful not so "Cool Hand" kangaroo steak place in town. I've been going to the Dancing Tomato for a weekly morning meeting about for two months now. During this time I've had the opportunity to try several of their breakfast menu items. To be quite honest....nothing is amazing and it all seems very much like canned/boxed/frozen diner -ish food. $3 for a cup of coffee is a bit high also...that's a nice mark up on coffee grounds and water. However they do have fantastic service and we have the same waitress each week taking care of our group...who does a great job. Update: 5/31/2013 This evening we visited the Dancing Tomato to celebrate my six year son's birthday...he had asked for pizza and spaghetti and the DT was the first place that came to mind. When we arrived the DT was not that busy...we made the 4th set of customers in the restaurant at 6pm on a Friday night. We placed our order and then began to wait...and wait...and wait...with three children under the age of 8...this was difficult to say the least. When our food arrived I noticed that my hamburger was just a frozen patty slapped on a bun...not even a patty they formed themselves...but the cheap version you can get in a stack of 24 from any food service company and it was cold...when I touched it with my finger I could not feel warmth at all. I sent it back and asked that it be warmed up...when the waitress brought it back it was warm but had zero flavor. Seriously....when you charge over $8 for a hamburger you can at least for the patties yourself and flavor them a bit. I ended up taking two bites of it and then asking my husband for a bit of his food. This will be the last time I pay to eat at the Dacning Tomato their food is just "blah" for the amount of money they charge for it. It's time to get a chef who is not afraid to season the food; this nursing home "mush" like food is not worth paying for. read more

Service was less than good. Many missing utensils until after our meal was served and then we had to ask, along with no napkins. Because we came as a group, there was an 18% gratuity automatically added to our bill. Really? They think they are that good? Took us nearly an hour to get food to the table. I ordered off the gluten free menu, chicken parmesan. Small servings, chicken tasted like jerky it was so dry (probably micro-waved), and a small serving of spinach. $13.99 + 2.99 more for a salad that I thought would be included, plus the gratuity. Way too much for the poor food and service. I can eat at a dozen restaurants within a mile that serve much better food at much lower prices with much better service. I won't be back nor recommend this restaurant to any of my friends until things change for the better. read more

The food is good. The menu is pretty diverse and the atmosphere is casual and fun.

The food was okay but not worth the very inflated prices. My daughter and I both ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and my $9 lunch portion was the same very small size as her child portion. The garlic bread had no garlic flavor at all and my husband's drink glass came with a free dried up piece of food on the side of it. We won't be going back. read more

I came here the other day with my cousin and had a great experience. At first there wasn't anyone at the door to greet and seat us but eventually someone came. Our food was good but the dessert was the best. I highly recommend getting the chocolate lasagna!! This place is the same as Cafe Italia in Davis, Ca. I loveeeee cafe Italia and they have the same menu. I think the chefs over there cook better but the foods good here nonetheless :) will def be back! Tonight during our visit, I ordered the Kaboom Pasta and my son ordered the kids spaghetti meal. We both thought our food was yummy, but I couldn't rate the place any higher because of the crummy service. It took forever to get a waitress at our table and I had to ask for EVERYTHING after the point at which I should have already gotten it. There were a ton of bussers and hostesses, but no waitresses. This is our first time here for breakfast. Our waitress was Markee and she's very nice and service oriented. My husband and I each ordered the garden omelette with the country potatoes that had sour cream and green onions on top. We received our meals in about 10-15 minutes. The omelettes were big with lots of potatoes, next time we'll split the plate since we both took half of our entire meal togo. The only down fall was my potatoes weren't hot enough to melt my sour cream some. I could've told my waitress but I didn't so next time I'll ask to make sure there hot. read more
