First visit since COVID. The place has that hometown feel. Which we love although some may not. The restaurant is clean. When we arrived 8am on Friday, the restaurant clientele seemed like the locals. We chose a table for two and our server was nice and friendly. We ordered the full mess to share and coffee. The coffee was good strong and not bitter. The full mess with eggs scrambled hard and salsa on the side-eggs done just the way we like, hash browns-well cooked and crisp,biscuits-large and fluffy, bacon-crispy and not oily, gravy-your standard white gravy, smooth and creamy but something seemed missing. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. It was definitely enough for two. We would definitely return to try some of their other offerings. Glad we gave this place a try!! :) While we were here looks like the owner came out and was taking orders and checking on table too.

The Mess

It's hard to pick the #1 reason why I give this place 5 Stars! Is it the home cooked feel, the friendly staff or just the salsa? Either way, whenever I'm in town (even if there's a 5 year gap) I always return here to have at least one breakfast. I'll be honest I've pretty much only have had The Mess (yes, full order). But my wife and kids have ordered other things on the menu and no one leaves disappointed. My son ordered the kids meal and it was a lot for him too. The pancakes are good, the bacon cooked to perfection and I know the french toast is good too. Roxy has been there for as long as I can remember. She is always so great and patient with kids and us older kids too. I have never had a bad experience. Even the coffee is good. I'll stop rambling to end this as it just looks like a mess... Don't forget the salsa!!

New ownership has changed the recipes. And unfortunately not for the better. This used to be the spot for the best mess. The country gravy is more of a brown gravy now. Watery, brown and does not taste like country gravy at all. Bring the original Cook n' Pot recipes back.

Half Mess with Bacon

It's been six years since our last visit. Roxie treated us like regulars. Small nondescript place however tables turnover quickly. We were there on a Wednesday morning and they stay busy. Husband got a Half Mess with bacon. I had the hash once again. Generously portioned and as good as I remembered. Don't hesitate, enjoy a good meal.

French Toast with Coffee.

Half Order of Biscuits and Gravy always good. Highly recommended the French Toast. Friendly, hard working staff.

I can't believe this place still exists. I used to go here in high school back in the mid 90s and the food is still great!

Visited March 7th. Ordered on line so see my receipt on the bag…read more This is a very cool and casual place in Yuba City. Tastefully decorated inside. I ordered to go but they have an outside covered area that allows your fur babies!!! I was able to bring my puppy out to the enclosed area with his carrier. So hard to find places that allow dogs ( except Grass Valley..totally cool!). I ordered the Thai shrimp...chicken lollipops and parm chicken wings. All to go ( Ordered ahead ). Because they were not busy outside we ordered a beer and nibbled on the appetizers. My puppy loved it! My fav is the Thai shrimp! Love the sauce on them along with the coleslaw. It was a Great experience again and the Petes blonde ale was delicious! Good portions as well! Great service! If you like sports they have plenty of tvs to watch throughout the restaurant! So ambiance was expected, quiet, slow, empty. Ordered Ahi Tuna - the Asian salad was better than the Tuna. Sear the Tuna harder, reduce the salt on your spice mix, you're taking away from the fish. Let the tuna speak. Ordered the Margherita flatbread - Served with Ranch? Com'on Had a whole half leaf of basil on it too. Chiffonade the Basil. Took a bite and BAM!, at least throw San Marzano tomatoes on there. This is Basic Italian. Either the right tomato or the right mozzarella quality, choose one, makes a world of difference. Service was as good as you can expect, no complaints there. The server seemed either overwhelmed, or overworked. Likely the latter, running a skeleton crew to save money only works for a few months then you get a negative feedback loop in hiring and training costs. Do Better. New management? Focus on your team, absorb the costs, eventually one will fail, the team or the cost. Money is recoverable, people are not.

Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Maryville (at 1st & D St's), and next to the Chinese "Bok Kai Temple", this longstanding and well known restaurant/saloon/hotel has been in operation dating way back to 1858 when the peak of the gold rush era was thriving in California. Over the years, the upstairs hotel (a.k.a. "The Grand Hotel") was once a brothel amongst various operations before becoming a permanent hotel for guests to stay. Meanwhile the downstairs has served as a full-size bar complete with a ton of American comfort food to choose from on their extensive menu. I came here during the afternoon of Saturday 7/19/2025 at around 4:30pm. Since this was during the 25th annual "Marysville Peach Festival", there was a ton of customers and locals visiting during my visit. Surprisingly, parking was easy to find as I parked directly outside of the building. Once inside, you are immediately drawn to the nostalgic wooden interior. From the looks of it, not much has changed here over the years complete with vintage sepia chandeliers, huge brick ovens, taxidermy displays of various animals, and everything else that represented the wild wild west. Their menu is extensive and has just about all of the stick-to-your-ribs food you can ask for. This includes a ton of appetizers (poppers, fries, mozzarella sticks, etc.) as well as a nice variety of main course entrées that include sandwiches, burgers, salads, steaks, pastas, and much more. And since you're in a saloon, they offer all of the top whiskies, bourbons and brandies as well as a ton of beer on tap. Keep in mind that they are closed on Monday & Tuesday but open for business Wed/Thu and Sunday from 11am-8pm and Fri/Sat from 11am-9pm. After narrowing down what I wanted, I finally settled with their "French Dip" sandwich. This was a traditional and classic sandwich complete with their smoked roast beef w/Swiss cheese & mayonnaise on a hoagie roll with a side of Au Jus sauce. I opted with home fries as my side and a Coke to drink. I also ordered a starter appetizer which was their crispy "Chicken Tenders". Our server was very attentive as my +1 and I sat on a quieter side of the restaurant (near the windows). Total time took around 25 minutes to get our food; not a big deal considering this place was absolutely packed with customers. Overall, my French Dip was delicious and filling. They were generous with the thin sliced roast beef while there was the perfect amount of cheese. The au jus had the right amount of consistency as each bite hit the spot. However, the chicken tenders were just so-so as there was too much breading on the exterior. And considering these were $16.95 for 4 tenders, it was quite a bit on the pricier side. I don't want to knock this place too much but I did see quite a bit of flies by our table. But I do realize that some of these things are beyond their control with as busy as it was. All in all, the "Silver Dollar Saloon" is a good place for small and large gatherings. The service was excellent while we got filled up during our visit. My rating, an above average four stars.

We've dined in both the bar area and the main restaurant, which are two separate sections when you walk in. Everything we've tried has been excellent, including the New York steak, blackened lemon pepper salmon, clam chowder, salad with ranch, calamari, BBQ ribs, and cow tips. For appetizers, the cow tips are highly recommended--they're incredibly flavorful and melt in your mouth. The restaurant is closed once a week on Mondays and opens at 4:30 p.m. during operating days. Keep in mind that during busy times there may be a wait, so a little patience is needed. If you love high-quality steak at great prices, this place is truly a hidden gem in Yuba City. Ranch House now serves meat from Country Butcher (a local butcher), and I am officially invested. The upgrade made an impact on how the steaks taste. The medium-rare ribeye had everything I look for: a dark, caramelized crust with a juicy, slightly pink interior. Each bite was beefy, rich, and buttery. Need I say more?
