I went hunting for some consignment stores and while I didn't find exactly what I was looking for at Village Treasure House, I was surprised at how clean, well-stocked and varied the merchandise was. There were definitely more than a handful of things that tempted me off the path of my intended errand. Maybe most importantly, the place was well-ventilated and air-conditioned. I walked into Village Treasure House expecting an above-average thrift store. Within minutes I concluded that VTH is nothing of the sort--it's exceptional and way beyond what I'm accustomed to! Browsing the elegant furniture (all in excellent condition and some "like new"), art, china, crystal, and home accessories kept me entertained for the better part of an hour. Much of the furniture is traditional but for someone with eclectic tastes, VTH is a treasure trove of beautiful items. I bought a great banana bowl with guardian monkey that is now part of the "African corner" of my kitchen. I asked about the posters arrayed along the walls that feature a number of nonprofits. I was told that 100% of VTH's profits go to 16 agencies that provide essential services to families and individuals in need. Made me feel even better about my modest purchase! read more

I was just in the shop today. So nice to see such a wide variety of items displayed so well. The items presented online, that I wanted to look at in person were accurate in description and color. Being a Wednesday a volunteer told me that there are items on the floor midweek that won't go online until Friday. Fun to get a sneak peek. Love the concept, interesting store but some of the prices they list on some items are completely out of line with reality. Part of 'finding treasures" is getting a good price on a used product, but many items in the store are higher there the price point you can simply buy in a retail store. I'll agree with previous reviewers that the staff is decidedly unfriendly. I counted 4 staff people who didn't acknowledge me. Not a nod or a greeting. Bizarre. The stuff wasn't my taste either, very fussy. I love antique stores and secondhand shops, and am usually able to pick up a few pieces. I didn't find anything that appealed to me. I guess it's nice they support charitable organizations, so I'll tack on a star. I won't be visiting again. read more

I think the Village Treaure House is a wonderful resource in our community. Through the sales of used furniture, household decor, artwork they are able to give back to many local organizations. Over the years I have found many treaures for my home. Also when downsizing I donated and consigned some nice furniture which sold quickly. I stop in there often because you'll never know what you'll find. Staff is always helpful and they volunteer a lot of time to keep this organization running smoothly. read more

I called this morning inquiring about a piece since I would've driven up from the city to pick it up, and drove all the way there just to find out they sold it 30 minutes before I arrived. This resale shop focuses on furniture and home wares (dishes, paintings, china, figurines, knick-knacks, etc). It is run by the Glenview Community Church, and all proceeds go to local social service organizations benefiting women and children. I always stop in when I'm in town because (disclosure) my mom has volunteered here for over 10 years, and I always like to snag great deals on furniture! You can donate or consign your items, and I think they can arrange for furniture to be picked up. You should stop by! read more

I have been buying items here for the last 8 years, and have also downsized much of my excess furniture, after several moves, by consigning my items here. A great place to deal with, very professional in every way! The selection changes constantly, and the store is staffed almost entirely by volunteers. I've put off writing a review for awhile because I don't want this place to get too popular. The Village Treasure House really has some of the best deals on vintage/antique furniture and furnishings in the area. The pros: - They have a big inventory that turns over fairly quickly. - Their prices are insanely low. In my experience, none of the antique malls or shops nearby can compare. I've seen antique furniture that was cheaper than what you'd find at the Target down the road. - I've had nothing but positive experiences consigning with them, including getting paid on time. - I don't know how they do it, but there are very few weird antique store smells! - They're a non-profit, and proceeds from items that don't sell go to charity. - You can see some of their recent inventory online, which is nice if you're planning a trip. The cons: - The location, while easy to get to, is a little strange. You have to drive over a curb to park. - There isn't a ton of parking (mostly an issue on busy weekends). - They have pretty limited hours for consigning items. - This is a pro and a con, but you never know what you're gonna find! They always have furniture, crystal, and china, but things like wall art and lighting are hit or miss. The good stuff does disappear quickly. Really though, very few complaints here. Great for serious, casual, and budget shoppers alike. read more

Like some other reviewers, I would hate for this shop to get *too* popular. It is a great place to find decorative items like vases, candle holders, and serving pieces. It is also fabulous for finding complete sets of fine china and crystal. (If you already own fine china and crystal that you bought in the '80s or '90s, the prices will make you cry, but think of all the joy using those items for decades brought you. . .) There is some lovely, high quality furniture available, but the good stuff does not last long. Ditto the rugs, lamps, and chandeliers. The shop aims for frequent turnover, so if things don't sell in 90 days, they are moved out. The folks working here are volunteers. Most of them are super nice and helpful. I very much appreciate all of their service and I am appalled that there are people on this site criticizing *volunteers* donating their time to a worthy cause. read more

Id like to comment on my experience today at VT House with a staff person. I have an small, well behaved dog, that is an emotional support animal. I carried him throughout the entire store today, while I was shopping there with my daughter and her 9 month old. On our way out of the store, this particular staff person said to her "friend" behind the front counter, quite loud enough for my daughter to hear ..."REALLY? A dog?" My daughter then relayed that to me. There are NO signs on the door that states that animals were not allowed, much less an emotional support animal. I also walked by numerous staff persons, during this shopping experience, and NOT one of them said a thing to me, about their "rules". So, I walked back in and stated to this woman that I thought her comment was very rude, not to mention insensitive, particularly since my animal happened to be an ESA. I thought to myself, 'What a bunch of baloney, that this is a Church run organization and there are "Bullies" that are volunteering their time? '. She did apologize for "upsetting me", but perhaps she needs to think about why people do what they do, and show those a bit more empathy, instead of judging. Crock of BS. Ill never step foot in there again. read more

It really did feel like finding a treasure when I came upon this store! Lately, I have been interested in resale shops because it is so fun to see what you can find. This place always has something interesting. They have a lot of furniture, art, China, glassware and other knick-knacks. I like how the price drops after each month. The item could be taken off the floor after three months, but not necessarily. It is a good idea to take a photo of the tag if you are interested in an item and can call back to see if it's still there if you're willing to wait for the price to drop. All the women who work there are friendly and willing to help. Some things seem pretty expensive, but you can also find a lot of good deals for what it is. They said Tuesday is the day to go because I believe they bring in new items every Monday. The new items will be scattered throughout the store. I took an item to this shop and placed it on consignment. Last month I called to check the status of it and the manager told me it had been damaged while being moved to the extent that the item was thrown away. I was informed that they were not responsible for the condition (?) At no time did I receive a call from the manager that the item had been damaged or thrown away. I was not offered any compensation for the item, either the original sale price, the discounted price or any value at all. I was disappointed in how this situation was handled and I would NOT recommend this business to anyone. read more

Wonderful artwork and furniture. The pieces range from vintage to modern and it changes each time I shop. I always put it on my let's go there list when I visit relatives in Glenview. The photos on Facebook and Instagram even let me shop when I am at home. They take my payment info over the phone and my daughter picks it up for me. It worked out so well. I have put off writing a review for a few reasons. One is that, like others, I don't want this place to get too popular. It is a great shop; clean, organized and nicely displayed. They are careful about the consignments they accept. No garage sale feel here, think high-end elegant estate sale. Everything is in great condition and, for the most part, reasonably priced. Besides picking up a few items for myself over the years, The Village Treasure House has provided wonderful starts to my children as they moved out and made many of their Goodwill or Ikea owning friends jealous. Now please notice that almost every review speaks about the merchandise - not the staff. That's because while the quality of the merchandise is wonderful, the same cannot be said of the mostly volunteer staff. And that's the reason I've delayed my review, hoping to see a change, but regrettably I haven't. I was browsing today and asked a volunteer a question about an item. As she went to check the computer another customer stopped her and she just "forgot" about me. I had just come from a brutal therapy session and was wearing matching active wear, gym shoes and OMG - very little makeup. The other woman was wearing a very fashionable outfit, full makeup and Manolo's. I decided against the piece but found a lovely large planter and decided to purchase it. A couple was checking out and the woman taking their payment was too busy to acknowledge me, though I am standing in front of her. Buffy, a well-dressed volunteer, was at the counter leaning gracefully on her elbow. We made eye contact and she quickly turned away. As the couple and clerk walked away I counted 1...2...Buffy realized I was staring at her...3... she glanced to see if someone would save her ...4... she dejectedly walked towards me...5... "Can I help you" she reluctantly said. I explained that she could have but as she had previously chosen not to, no she couldn't. It is not always bad. I was in last week as well. I had a business meeting earlier, and was dressed and made-up appropriately. I was greeted and treated extraordinarily well and loved it. My husband walked in after me. He had just finished therapy for his knee, so he was walking a bit slow, and was wearing sweats. He was NOT greeted and only began to be treated well after they realized we were together and we explained the whole therapy thing. Another time I was in jeans and asked about donating. The woman said to me "We only take nice things." So again great merchandise and a horribly stereotypical north shore snobbishly rude attitude read more

Consignment shop of fine furniture, art and other household items. It looks like a really expensive store inside, not like a resale shop. Must be because good stuff often gets consigned when it is just too good to get donated somewhere. The prices are shockingly cheap considering the quality. Prices get reduced every 30 days. I've never been in another place quite like this. Bought lots. Really big shop. First floor of a bank building on Glenview Rd. Just east of Harlem. The train stop is one block away. read more

They gave me a list of delivery men and the one I selected was reasonable and very careful. I cannot agree with these negative reviews about the staff as they have always been kind and professional, which is exceptional as they are an all volunteer staff. This place is a real treasure. I love stopping in to see what new items they have! I have found items that I love from my Belleek vase to a practical quilt rack I use for our blankets. They are well organized, pleasant, and helpful. Their knowledge is extensive and the merchandise widely varied, displayed beautifully, and always in prime condition.
