I have to say that this is one of the busiest bars in Portsmouth. I know the owners, Jason & Marge who rock! I kinda feel like this is a dive bar. The clientele varies from a very young, college age type of crowd to us older peeps crowd. They always seem to have Karaoke going on in here. They have a pool table in the area that they do karaoke so if it's going on the table is covered up & not able to be used. They also have another pool table across from the bar. It can get pretty crowded in here & it becomes a tight space to try & move around in, so if this isn't your jam or you're clastauphobic than this isn't the bar for you. They have had their bathrooms remodeled. I used the ladies room on my most recent visit which is now where the men's use to be, there is more than one stale which helps the flow move faster when waiting to use the bathroom. My friend's & I always enjoy hitting this place up when we're downtown bar hopping. Definitely a great place for people watching!! Drinks are cheap too. This place is a MUST stop by & grab a nice cold drink! Be prepared to show your ID upon arrival to the guy door outside. They do have small bites to eat that they heat up behind the bar with cheap prices. read more

Dive bar (by design?) No matter what, this is a fun place. Can get crowded but that adds to the energy. Great drinks and taking a spin of the shot wheel is always a worthwhile result. We were definitely not the youngest in the crowd and may have been close to the oldest, but never felt out of place or unwelcome. Can't wait to head back this Sunday night!! read more

Just wanted to start off with all of the positives. First off, the entire bar staff was awesome. We got prompt and friendly service at a reasonable price. The atmosphere of the bar was electric. Now for the not so positives. To start with, I've been a karaoke host for over 20 years. Not to say that makes me the best or anything like that, but I do know a little bit about how a show should be run. I run 5 shows a week and would love to work at a place like this. Positives are that the host is a good singer. Negatives are: 1. A karaoke host should never sing more than the patrons that are there to sing. Honestly, on a busy night, he should sing the first song, last song and maybe 1 song by request if needed. If there are more than 5 decent singers in the queue, he should remove himself from the rotation. If he wants to be the star and sing multiple times, start a band. 2. Make sure your equipment is working properly. I know stuff happens, but it's a busy Friday. Make sure everything works before you start and have backups. 3. (This is just a personal preference) Be more encouraging after a singer has sung. Give them some kudos or at least say "That was Mike". I don't know if the host is the owner, or if he works for free, but this is just some advice from someone who is in the business, has done thousands of shows and is trying to help make everyone at the bars experience, a little better. Went on a karaoke night. The KJ not only didn't stay in rotation, but he took too many spots by singing himself, when he should have been supporting and facilitating the singers/patrons. I have been to many, many karaoke bars and restaurants. This is not the appropriate way to host a show. read more

Came here on a Saturday night and they were doing karaoke. The vibes were fun, more of a dive feel bar but super good time. Everyone was singing and laughing. They also have a pool table and darts. Drinks were cheap too. If I lived here I would def stop in quite a bit. read more

Popped into Daniel street tavern after reading great reviews about friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere.... I must have walked into the twilight zone because me and my boyfriend walked into the bar @ around 6pm on a Saturday and the only good thing I can say is music was playing on the jukebox and AC was bumping- besides that, the female bartender was far too busy cutting limes directly in front of us as we sat at bar trying to make eye contact - to even acknowledge us. Mind you there were 2 other customers there. We gave it a solid 4 minutes...crickets. So thanks for the hospitality Daniel street- def won't be returning. read more

A great little bar! My husband and I stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon and ended up staying for 5 hours. We played pool, borrowed a cribbage board from behind the bar and played with another couple and heard some people sing karaoke. There is a shot wheel at the bar and we had a blast watching other people find out what shot they were going to take. The bartenders are super attentive and friendly and the bathroom was clean. I loved it so much that I bought a Daniel Street Tavern flannel that I proudly wear around my upstate NY area. I can't wait to plan another trip just to hang out here! read more

It is the worst service I've ever experienced. The employees do not care for their guests at all. They tried kicking our party out because the bouncer overseeing the pool table didn't know we were up next and thought there was a problem when he should have minded his own business. This place reminds me so much of my college bars back in New York. Nothing fancy just good old cheap beer on draft. Bartender was very welcoming and talkative. A few locals at the bar chatted with us too. The bar itself is a bit worn down, my bar stool was falling apart but comfortable. Limited seats at the bar but lots of other tables and spots throughout the place. The place has a bit of a smell to it, just think it needs a good cleaning. The entire decor is lots of great bar signs and flags throughout. There is a large spin wheel with different shots on it. Very college vibe again. read more

It's a nightmare to get a drink because of the amount of people they allow in. If you're lucky enough to make it to the bar you still need to go through the popularity contest to get noticed to order. Once you do get a drink you spill half of it making back out of the crowd to another crowded space to have your sup-par drink. Negative stars read more

What a crazy place! No menus at the table I guess, it's on the wall, and you go up and order at the bar. Pretty basic bar food, we got the nachos, they were pretty good and the chicken bites were good for a night of drinking. I felt like the drinks were expensive for how light they were poured. We went in as a party of six for Happy Hour. I loved the atmosphere and the bar was well stocked. We got beers for $2- and watched the Bruins game. There was a couple of pool tables and other drink specials as well. They have a cool wheel that you can spin for ordering shots, which adds the perfect dive bar experience. We went and tried to have a few beers but some lady that worked there met us coming in the door and followed 4 of us to our seats and stood there talking the entire time. This bar has a lot of history in Portsmouth and they understand their clients and treat the regulars very well. The bouncers are pretty strict, especially to younger people but once you're in, the party begins! Cheapest beer in town, very inclusive to the LGBTQ+ and edgy. Had been here before, went again for a friend's birthday. After getting a drink from the bar, went to the bathroom with a friend, I was PHYSICALLY PULLED OUT OF THE BATHROOM and kicked out to the bar. The bouncer aggressively dragged me out of the bathroom, and humiliated my friend in front of the entire floor. We were not being disrespectful in any way, just two girlfriends going into a bathroom together. I am extremely appalled by this experience. Would not recommend coming here. read more

This is your typical dive bar, free pool, very divey friendly staff. They do not have a full liquor license so only beer and wine. This is my first time here and I thought that was strange. I've been to other bars which only served pizza from a microwave and they had a full bar. Maybe it's a Portsmouth thing. See picture for daily specials. They have a touch tunes here 2 pool tables. This is one of our must-hit places when we are strolling the streets of downtown Portsmouth (which frankly isn't often enough.) State Street Saloon is usually our first stop and then here after a brief walk. Although I don't know if I could handle a Saturday night here, it's just my speed on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. We like the places off the beaten path, and we have always felt comfortable and welcomed here. This place was great initially. I came here after two years. Had a great time. It was karaoke night. The person running karaoke and the owner prioritized themselves over the long line in front of them for karaoke. I was listed next for two songs, then cancelled out. When I went up and asked about it they said "you were next but the owner is going to sing and now I am going to sing". The DJ sang at least three times in the two hours I was there even though there was a significant line of people wanting to sing. This is unacceptable. i'm going to be completely honest I love this place so much and I had the best time besides one of the employees he ruined the whole thing for me. One of the bouncers who has a long beard and shorter hair was harassing girls all night not to mention drinking on the job. I got kicked out after having one drink from having my friend go to the bathroom with me to give me a feminine products I've never been more Rapold in a human being in my whole life. and then he proceeded to kick out my friends because they had to use the bathroom so badly they used the men's bathroom and one of them identifies as male now, which is also very sexist. he waited outside of the bathrooms to kick us all out and it was very unpleasant and took my full drinks. I will never be coming back to this establishment and if I do, and I see this man, I will personally dump my drink, all the way down him the way he made me sick to my stomach. read more

Went to Portsmouth after the beach on Monday and was walking around looking for an affordable lunch. No easy job in the "new" Portsmouth. We walked up to the outdoor menu and Yasmin said "come on in, $2 beer, music is playing and we have fun. Sounds good to us. She helped me find a beer that I loved, offered to cook us some lunch. We played pool and I won over my husband, first win in 20 years!!. She has a great personality, making us happy to be there. we will stop in again after 3 to try the "amazing pizza" she told us about. I used to live in Portsmouth and this bar was give or take. I do love dive bars, but this one is a little more shady for my taste. I know my friends have went in there and had crazy experiences as well. There are good memories in this place too. Nothing like singing Neil Diamond sorts with a 50 year old man in a sun dress! At the same time, there are some less than classy people that go in there that try to make you feel uneasy. One night a bar tender started getting really offensive with me. I said one cuss word and a group of guys started in on me. Then when I was going to leave someone actually pulled a knife out. That was my last memory of that place. Maybe they didn't like me because I wasn't local enough. Maybe it was a day they had a bad catch. I just know my memory of someone coming at me with a knife outweighs singing Neil Diamond with a cross dresser. read more

PBR went up to $2.75 for a tallboy, but the karaoke is still free. This place makes me feel totally insane as a general rule. The bartenders are good and the other regulars are happy to show up at 11 a.m. to start drinking. I view this as a good thing. I don't remember what they have on tap, but it's a beer-only kind of situation. There's a pretty sick basketball arcade game in the back of the room, so you can run up in there and jam on it if you're in the berzerker zone. The regulars that do karaoke here are all amazing talents that make me want to extricate myself from the world of performing arts due to my shittiness in relation. I'm not kidding. Karaoke Master has a list of every song you ever performed, organized by date. Look for "Door Creaking Sound FX" as an option in the big book of songs. read more

The Last Dive Bar in Portsmouth Yes - it is a dive bar. Yes - people can be rowdy and drunk. Yes - it at least has a pulse versus the dead corpses that are most of the Portsmouth bar scene which is tourists taking pictures of themselves with bowls of chowder and pretentious losers sipping $15 cucumber martinis(if you want to do that get out of NH- to do that here is fake). Perfect for an afternoon drink or an end of the night lunacy. I say stick with cans, someone told me to avoid the drafts, I didn't listen. I get cans now. sometimes it's too busy (on a Saturday night) but at least its a diverse crowd, can be a lot of young drunk kiddies though, and old drunk alkies. This was the first bar that we went to on Halloween night after the parade. It is a very divy bar, interesting mix of locals and for the night, it was full of interesting mix of people with costumes. It had one of the smallest bar pool table I've ever seen (maybe 5' x 3'?). The bartender according to my friend did not pour my Guinness correctly. I tasted it and she was right. It was a bit flat. But it was an interesting place to go check out the local scene but I wouldn't come back if it was my choice. read more

Nice pine (?) wood walls give it a cabin-type feel.....the basement bar you wish you had in the lake house you wish you had. You might get a few people staring at you when you walk in, but this is sheerly because they haven't seen you in there before. Hmmmmm...I'm torn between two and three stars. Mind you, my husband was escorted/kicked out during our visit, but there was a LOT going on. I went in KNOWING it was what I expected was the last true dive in Portsmouth. Wine in boxes! YES! Friendly service! YES! Really nice karaoke host who was very fair in lining up who was next! YES! However, once I started karaoke, fellow patrons got....handsy? grindy? I'm not even sure what to call it. I'm in my late 40s and not "all that" so whether it was sarcastic or "sincere", who cares, my husband did not appreciate it. After telling him to step the eff off, and this individual laughing it off, my husband took a swing. Here, I have to say, security was quick to step in and VERY POLITELY let my husband know it was best that we leave. We were fine with that. Does this review sound backwards? Again, although we were asked to leave, it was done in a very respectful manner, and we feel like it was the right call on the part of security. Not sure we'll be back, but, as a Portsmouth Dive Bar, this place is fairly legit. Give it a go, if that is your bag. read more
