We thoroughly enjoy Danny's Mexican ice cream! I couldn't tell you how many times we've been to this place. It's always nice to go to a place where they give you the option to try their menu items. There are typically 40+ ice cream creams to choose from so sometimes taking a sample is great. My favorite is the coconut ice cream! It's creamy and dreamy and something I want every time I go. They do not have it every time. Today was one of those times. I decided to go with the Nutella and peanut butter. Of course it did not disappoint. They are always friendly and the service is quick. I'm surprised I haven't left a review for here yet! This is a real hidden gem on the west side of Indy and my husband and I have been going here for years. The owner is SO sweet, always offering up samples and letting us know about the new flavors they have out. We most recently stopped in here for some scoops of strawberry ice cream after dinner Monday night, but will usually stop in here before or after taking the dogs on a walk at the nearby YMCA trail or Washington Township Park. Such a beautiful day for some ice cream. Perfect timing too! As there was no one in when I stopped in. I was greeted upon walking in by a nice lady with a smile. Danny's has a great selection of flavors to choose from as far as ice cream. I sampled the Honeycomb and OMG!!!! It melted in my mouth. I tried the Cheeto Equite and to my surprise, it wasn't as spicy as I was thinking it would be. It's served warm. Personally, not my favorite because hot Cheetos is not my thing, but I can say that I've tried it. Now, the Churro Sundae is more of my thing. The churros are not made in-house. I opted for vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. I would have like a few more pieces of churros, layered throughout, but it didn't take away from my liking. I'd get it again on another visit. Yes, you can get some more traditional flavors here - however, you can also get queso, tequila, corn, Mexican hot chocolate (which I LOVE), and others. While Danny's doesn't seem to have a website, they do have an active social media presence. There are accessible parking spots, a decent curb cut, and the location itself is easily wheelchair friendly. Prices are surprisingly good, the ice cream is awesome, and I've been impressed with the friendliness of employees. One slight caution - if you happen to drive around the building to get out, be careful if you drive back out onto the street. There's a weird concrete barrier that isn't super visible (or maybe I just wasn't paying attention). I'm so glad I finally made it to Danny's. It's a definite gem in Hendricks County and for sure worth a stop if you're in Avon. The shopping center is less than one block east of the Rural King and it's definitely worth a visit. Anyone that knows me, knows I love me some Mexican ice cream. I have been trying to make it here for months. I just dread driving in that Avon traffic. You will find this gem in a small strip mall. Being that it is in a strip mall, there is a decent sized lot available, that it shares with the other businesses, to park. I visited here during their "down season". They are much busier and has a lot more offerings, such as elote, and Cheetos dishes, in the summer. There are a few tables set up outside to sit and enjoy your treat, but I am sure that spot is not very popular in the Winter months (when I visited). I sat in the shop's decent sized dining area. It is very clean and colorful and had Latin music playing throughout the shop. The woman working the shop during my visit was very friendly and helpful. You gave me suggestions and offered samples of the scooped ice cream. She was awesome. The shop offers bottled Mexican drinks, homemade scooped ice cream, popsicles, and special ice cream treats. After a long deliberation, I decided to go with the strawberries and cream. It was one of the best that I had. It had oatmeal, cream, strawberries, and whipped cream. I will admit, that I took the woman's suggestion and tried some samples of the ice cream. The freezer was full of a variety of flavors. They have traditional and exotic/hard to find flavors. They were all good, but the one that stood out to me was the corn ice cream. MMMMmmmmm! It was so amazing, I had to get a quart of it to take home (and not to share either). This is a nice little shop that offers some really good frozen treats. Danny hit a home run with this joint. Took my little mini me to get ice cream and he loved it just the same as he did last time. I thought it was pretty good but the flavor i was craving they were out of unfortunately. He got a chocolate dipped cone with fruity pebble ice cream and I got a churro Sunday with chocolate oreo ice cream. We also got two sodas which were pretty good. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My wife has gluten sensitivity and we were able to find the flavors that had no wheat in the mix. I went for the top prize, the banana split. It was too much and I should have gone for a double dip cone, but it WAS delicious. We have hit some touristy ice cream shops when traveling out of state. They charge way more for their ice cream. Danny's is quality at a fair price with delicious traditional selections plus the addition of some unusual flavors including "corn". Samples are cheerfully offered. Came by to try the mangonada, churro, and swirl cake ice cream. The mangonada was very interesting and probably best for people that like tamarind candy. Normally I'm not a dessert person. I prefer to fill up on my savories, and if I'm feeling saucy later I might treat myself to a cup of coffee. But my family, they know I have a soft spot for Danny's. It's probably because they have a really good coffee ice cream, and that's enough to fool my brain, but whatever, I really like this place. Danny's serves really high-quality homemade ice cream, so if you're like me and you're burned out on every new ice cream place in town serving Hershey's or Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, you'll probably appreciate Danny's. Yeah, yeah the flavors are really good, and some unique like corn or queso (they serve traditional flavors as well), but texturally it's the best ice cream I've had. Super creamy, and the perfect temperature, so I've literally never gotten a scoop of ice cream that with some bonus darkened, frozen unpleasant ice crystals, none of those shenanigans at Danny's, thank God. Here's my recommendation. Go to Danny's, and get a couple scoops of ice cream, if you want to play it safe and get a traditional flavor like vanilla or mint chocolate chip, go for it. But when you go home, grab a pre-packed half portion of the mangonada, and give it a shot when you get home. I'll admit, sometimes I fancy myself a food person, and I was a little intimidated by the mangonada because it's a bit more savory that what I'm used to, but the half-portions are good size for an entry-level mangonada person like myself, and you'll be glad you tried something different.
