We recently had dinner at Dante's in Barrington, NH- It's a very popular spot! The place was packed, but we had reservation. We have been coming to this place for many years. It is a casual place, with decent food, at an average cost. The decor is warm. Sadly the noise level today was the worst I have experienced, we asked for a different table, but the waiter told us none were available. We ended up shouting at each other in order to have any kind of conversation, how disappointing, not very romantic. The service was good- our waiter was very friendly and efficient. The drink at Dante's are good. I had the sea food pasta, no flavor. The filet Mignon was under cooked (medium rare) The homemade pasta was OK, but was cooked together in a clump. Warm, inviting & romantic restaurant that is perfect to celebrate a birthday with a party of 10, a date night for two, or head to the bar to have a cocktail & an app with some friends. The food is beyond exceptional & the service aligns with the same standards. I have never had a bad meal at Dante's. I love that they source everything locally. That sets this restaurant apart from most others. A nice touch was that the owner catered to us when my brother came home for a surprise visit. He 'hid' him at the bar while our family & friends were arriving. He had great conversation with my brother, just like family - he knew how important this evening was for us. Been driving by for years and never went but finally made reservations! I didn't know gnocchi was an option and with the carbonara was spectacular. My guy had the scallops, which were a little overcooked unfortunately, and the risotto, kind of dry. He said 3 stars, I say 4. Nice server and cosy table! This place is right down the street from me and we thought we'd give it a try. The staff were all very kind and the environment was inviting. My issue is that the food is overwhelmingly bland. We ordered an appetizer of mussels and shrimp, pesto genovese and shrimp scampi. None of it had any flavor at all. I will say, the drinks were very good! I really want to like this place because the staff is nice and it's a cozy spot - but the prices are just wayyy too steep for food with zero flavor :( Wouldn't mind coming back for drinks. read more

Hello again...Thank you for having us again. Celebrating our 15th year anniversary, we decided to come on by again, to come back home. Nyle, Nyle, Nyle. What a guy. We got right to it and he was right with Us. I ordered the penne pesto pasta, my husband of 15 years, the spaghetti and meat-a-ball-eh. Not gonna cap twin pasta low-key didnt have much flavor nor the chicken. But my boy Nyle resurrected it with some grated parm-eh-sean. Holden, how did you like yours? Thanks for asking. Um, honestly I can say, the pasta and meatballs were bussin. The tomato sauce um is great a great flavor, the only thing I had an issue with is tomato chunks. Classy but also casual. The service was fantastic- our waitress was very friendly and efficient. The drink list at Dante's is great. Highly recommend the Espresso Martini. The food was so-so. The special appetizer tasted like Boursin on dry bread. The Veal Marsala was a little tough, fatty/sinewy, and lacked seasoning, as did the sauce. The homemade pasta was OK, but was cooked together in a clump. All in all a so so experience. Would not return for the food alone. read more

First I want to say the 1 star is for the server we had, he was decent compared to the rest of the place, I didn't get his name. When we arrived at Dante's February 6th for my birthday dinner. We parked in a spot in front of the ramp, with a handicap plaque, a women came over to us not so friendly telling us we need to move our car because we were in front of the ramp ! It was a handicap spot, but so we would please her instead of getting yelled at anymore we moved over, if she was a manager she needs to learn people skills !! We took a table in the lounge area, instead of having to wait ! We ordered Arancini, they were edible but nothing special sauce was acidic. For meals I ordered Bolognese, one other ordered fettuccine Alfredo and one Chicken parm, first we picked our pasta homemade Pappardelle, I was really looking forward to this, I hadn't had Italian in a long time. We got our meals, I took a bite, something tasted off, I said something to the people I was with, they said maybe it was just there recipe, I took a few more bite, of the pasta which was far from homemade, everything was stuck together, finally someone at the table tried mine and said that's bad don't eat anymore, I couldn't anyway it was disgusting ! One person had fettuccine Alfredo. Watery and no flavor, the chicken parm very acidic and chicken was pretty well done. When the waiter came over he noticed I hadn't eaten and asked if it was ok, I told him no it tasted old or sour Or something, he said he would see if he could void it after asking if I wanted something else. I give him a lot of credit he did his job.we couldn't get out of there fast enough. Next day started to get ready for my day before I knew it I was very ill, ended sick all day , and the person that tried some of my food also was sick, just from being in the Business all of my life, maybe you should rotate food, put dates on things maybe even find a new chef !! Perfect dining experience with my UNH daughter who is tired of all her local but lovely walkable village cafes in Durham. Hard to find familiar New York like Italian dishes outside of the home area, but this tavern checked all the boxes, cozy bar area, several small dining rooms; we chose the outdoor patio due to the warm fall late afternoon. Server and host were incredibly welcoming and efficient and the food was delicious! Large servings so I took half of my meal "home". I hate leaving reviews like this..but sometimes it just has to happen. :( I've been to this restaurant multiple times and this weekends experience was the worst. Truly hoping it was an off day but from what I've been hearing from other locals, it's the new norm. Arancini...delicious! Special- vodka sauce with penne & chicken. It had 0 flavor. It honestly tasted like they watered it down to get more out of the batch and unfortunately it was the same exact experience with the Alfredo. Both of these dishes should be bursting with flavor and they both had none. We had a really difficult time justifying spending $120 for this meal to be honest. Our waitress had no personality. She was happiest when she said goodbye even though we were absolutely pleasant to her. We know it's not her doing. To top it off, they had a dog walking around while people were eating food. I am a dog lover and have one myself, but when eating at a restaurant, this is not something I want to see. read more

I'll start by saying that it was an unusual night. The evening after a late-March snowstorm. Raining cats and dogs. And to top it all off, the power went out for a bit while we were there. The food at Dantes is fantastic. First rate family style Italian, plus a lot of it is scratch made. I think all of the pasta on their menu is available handmade -- at least most of it -- for a small upcharge. It's well worth it. Highly recommended. They claim to use imported Italian tomatoes in their marinara. What does that mean, exactly? I don't know, but it's tasty. The waitstaff is friendly and engaged and they genuinely seem to love their jobs. That's a big plus. They took really good care of us. The portions are pretty epic. Only the teenagers managed to finish their meals. The rest of us took healthy boxes home. The only drawback I could see was that the regulars were pretty loud and kind of rude. The people at the table next to ours were chatting at the top of their lungs and swearing like sailors. They weren't even drinking! Also, they had two children in their party. I'd highly recommend Dantes. If you have children in your party and you don't want them exposed to loud cursing, I'd suggest mentioning that to the hostess. I wanted to do an update to my original 10/13/2018 review. My wife and I have been to Dantes numerous times since the 2018 review, but this time in Sept of 2023 is worth a new post. Everything I said in the original post holds, but the food my wife and I had the other night was so spectacular that I just had to mention it. The menu listed a couple of changing specials that interested us. And I'm glad the waiter made sure he explained them because I ordered one of them, and Sue ordered the other. Usually like this place. Last night my husband got the veal parm. Near the ends ridiculously burnt. The rest of the breading on the back was taken off. Basically they burnt it, knew it, tried to mask it, and served it. What restaurant does that? My husband trimmed off the rest of the burnt that the breading found not be removed, about 1/4 of the piece. He left it on the top side of the plate. No way did the waitress or kitchen not see it. What is weird is the veal on ropes mushy breading. Thinking it was reheated? Disgusting any way you look at it No member of management checks on how everything is. $22 wasted. read more

Words can't begin to describe my experience at Dante's, but I'll give it my best effort. It began with a warm welcome from my accommodating server Cameron. From there, I received a beautifully crafted cocktail followed by a meticulously prepared antipasti (highly recommended). We have heard great things about Dante's and decided we would give it a try. We were very happy that they were open during this time as this was a lunch stop coming home from the lake. Our server Ryan was exceptional, very attentive, super nice, and we enjoyed the conversation. Sometimes you think it's the food that makes a restaurant which was true in this case as well but the icing on the cake was also Ryan's customer service. We each had a pasta dish as I was craving Italian food and it definitely hit the spot! My daughter had the Quattro Formaggio, I had the Bolognese, and my husband won the prize for best dish, the CARBONARA!! In fact I couldn't even get a picture of the dish because as soon as his fork hit the plate it was gone. All three dishes were delicious! I would definitely recommend them all. Next time though, I am getting the Carbonara. I tried tasting my husbands carbonara a couple times and looked over to try it again and he was just short of licking the bowl it was so tasty! My family and I have lived locally for about 5 years now and the best summation I can come up with is that I have probably had a bad meal here as often as I've had a good meal which is not a good ratio My most recent visit was with my family who was up visiting for the weekend. There were 8 of us and we made a reservation. We weren't supplied with enough silverware and napkins to start. We waited a good amount of time which I never mind as long as the ultimate product is of high quality. Well, in this case, it wasn't. I ordered scallops and risotto which was lukewarm if I am being generous and the risotto was beyond al dente. It was more like eating a plate of gravel. My daughter who ordered mac and cheese received it cool, nearly cold. My wife's chicken tasted like an abundance of vinegar was dumped on it and fairly flavorless unless bitter is a flavor. The coup de grace was the tiramsu which when you got to the lower layer of it probably could have driven you to blow an over the limit alcohol level on a breathalyzer. This place is so hit or miss any more but until it becomes more consistent, I plan to 'miss' it and go elsewhere. read more

After helping with the women's self-defense class at Quest Martial Arts we made the trip across the street to Dante's for drinks and appetizers. Mind you this was a Friday night that went way past their normal business hours. This large group flooded the restaurant and lounge within about 30 minutes. Dante's staff worked exceptionally hard to efficently serve all of us. To say this was a bit wild and crazy for them would be a mild assessment. I personally felt everyone was treated to pretty good service, excellent food and great atmosphere. As a side note, we have a great relationship with Dante's and they knew we planned on coming and there would be a good sized group. Should you need a place for your meeting or just a place to relax after an activity with your group or family, you might consider Dante's as an option. read more

I recently had an excellent takeout visit to Dante's! Easy to find and easy to park, the youthful staff are both professional and friendly. Very easy to make an order by phone; the male staff member make me feel like my order was thoughtfully being taken care of - to the point that he confirmed with the kitchen that the appetizer special was still available! I didn't feel rushed or un-valued through my entire experience! He was also very confident with the weekend specials and dishes. The brussle sprouts on special were delicious; perfectly cooked. The olive oil sauce provided was light and complimented the dish well. I LOVED the fresh bread and garlic oil offered! Wow!!! Very tasty! The zucchini lasagna on special was obviously homemade, and thought was put into preparation. The lobster ravioli had chunks of lobster in the filling, what a delight!! And the pasta itself, with squid ink stripes, is both unique and authentic. I had to save the extra sauce to use as a leftover...it's THAT good! The chocolate mousse was delicious after being chilled. The presentation was lost due to the takeout container, but this dessert is so rich and with beautiful texture. Last week we visited Dante's Bistro for the first time since January. We have enjoyed Dante's many times before the COVID crisis. We enjoyed their Happy Hour and their excellent Italian food. A few of us had a late weekday dinner served by a wonderful waitress named Sydney. She was attentive and personable, everything you could ask for in a Server. Currently Dante's operates on a reservations only basis to adhere to the COVID space restrictions. They have also ended Happy Hour. Our appetizers were good. The prosciutto wrapped artichoke hearts and cold antipasto were very tasty. Our party enjoyed the veal, chicken parmigiana and fresh linguini. The Scampi Adriatico was very disappointing. The shrimp were tasteless and the sauce very watery almost like clam broth. We were very upset by the behavior of the bartenders. It was close to closing time and the two bartenders were acting inappropriately. First one was "rubbing up" against the other one in a sexual manner. Latter they were commenting loud enough for customers to hear about photos of a men's genitals they were sharing on their smartphones. Totally Inappropriate and customers don't need to be exposed to that crap. Obviously the restaurant manager does not have control over the employees. We were turned off. read more

Okay, ive been here twice now, once with my mom for lunch on the deck, and once on the way back from the beach to get an espresso and dessert. Lunch was nothing special. I would have given three stars. But the espresso stop was a huge mistake. Got the cheesecake and tiramisu. Both were tiny portions. The cheesecake slice looked like it was cut from a 6" diameter cake. The cappuccinos were delivered in bright colored plastic cold cups with kid patterns on them, not a proper to go cup for hot liquid. I refused it because that's like drinking poison, the plastic was literally melting into the coffee. There wasn't even a sleeve to hold it, just hot plastic cup, here you go!! "Sorry that's all we had for cups" they said. Are you kidding me?! They refunded the $12 for the 2 coffees. But the desserts cost about ten bucks each and it was a waste of time and money stopping and dealing with all that. read more

I'm so sad to be giving Dante's one star as they were so good several years ago. The quality has clearly gone down the toilet. Our food was bland, greasy, and just ick. Won't be coming back ever again :( The AOP had no garlic or flavor and was just drenched in oil- like a solid 3/4 cup of oil. They blacken the chicken on a grill now and burnt char flavor overtook the entire dish, disgusting. My husband got carbonara which was just a mess of soggy bacon and pancetta, no egg, no peas, no finesse- just gloppy. Like Alfredo with a ton of bacon. Even my kids wouldn't touch the red sauce which tasted like Prego. So disappointed!! read more
