The last time we ate here, the food just didn't wow us. Maybe different management(?). But it's been 3 yrs since our last trip to Sanibel and since Dante's is right on the grounds of the Sanibel Inn where we're staying, we figured it deserved another visit. After spending most of the morning and part of the afternoon on the beach, hubs was craving pizza. Me? I had my doubts. Outside of NYC, I wasn't exactly convinced Sanibel was about to serve up a killer pie. I was wrong. Because for these parts, it's tasty alright. Dante's has a unique layout with a winding staircase leading up to a circular dining area. We started with the jumbo shrimp appetizer, doused in this creamy, spicy, garlicky, Parmesany-packed sauce that was totally outstanding. Then we each ordered our own 10" individual pie. Hubs went with the pepperoni, I chose the white pizza with mushrooms, minus the prosciutto. He loved his and I enjoyed mine too- but it needed more mushrooms. As for the pizza, the base is kinda thin but not paper-thin, the crust has a light and airy rise with a crisp feel- but not like a cracker. Shout-out to our server, Julia, who was friendly and attentive. Looks like Dante's has really stepped up for good. Hope it doesn't change. read more

Kevin was a great server! Kudos for being so accommodating, down to bringing the warm water to heat up our grandchild's bottle. Delicious Italian wedge salad, and the pizza was amazing! This place is gorgeous-they did a great remodel post Ian. I had pasta with shrimp and it was delicious. My waitress was really nice.

Love their food but they never answer their phone. Tried repeatedly to call and place a takeout and it's says mailbox full.

This is a very nice half circular space with high ceilings and plenty of windows to let in light. Beautifully decorated with comfy booths (try to snatch one of you can) nice pictures of Italy and gorgeous bar. The service is on point and friendly. This time around we had a crapese. But this one has few nice twists it served in layers ; mozzarella then tomato then mozzarella but what makes it special is the mix of an excellent pesto and a balsamic reduction with Italian spices and some bacon shaved on top. Very tasty. We then had the vegetarian pizza which is excellent. Cooked in wood burning oven, chuck full of veggies and olives and nicely sliced. They do have pastas and all sorts of other dishes but the pizza is top notch so we have really not tried the rest of the menu out yet.but I'm told the baked wings and meatballs are also excellent read more

Dante's has a great thing going. They are in a prime location on the beach. They are family, friendly, which is perfect for both residents and visitors to the island. They have great pizza and a great bar. Many of their salads and entrées are wonderful as well. The service is very hit or miss, though. Sometimes they answer their phone for takeout orders, sometimes they don't . Sometimes you can go in and order a pizza for takeout and sometimes they won't accept it. Sometimes you can get service at your table, and sometimes you can't. We really enjoy the Antipasto Italian salad and the Calciano meat pizza. read more

Great wood fired oven pizza! Upstairs though they do have an elevator if needed. Big round room with booths along the perimeter, with areas for tables of 6 or more towards the middle of the circle, all very well spaced. We've had appetizers and such before, this is one of those go-to places due to the family atmosphere, informal attire (2 ladies were in bathing suits with cover ups), and just a fun place with great staff. BUT....we love the wood fired pizza....crisp crust, slightly charred here and there but not burned, just that smoked flavor...yum, we go again and again during our vacations on Sanibel. read more

It was almost comical. They first said after we asked that they forgot our salads. Then my wife's dinner didn't show up because it was served to someone else? In neither case did our server try to resolve quickly. I usually only leave reviews when I'm impressed but this is our second experience like this at Dante's. To begin with, the noise was deafening. After we were seated, it took along time till our drinks came. Then it was a loooong time till the food came. When we asked our waiter when it would arrive, all he said was, "The order went in" Thanks a lot. For those of us who had pasta (4 of us) it would have been better if it had never arrived. We ate here twice, once for breakfast and once for a group pizza craving. Breakfast was amazing--I got their Biscuits & Turkey Sausage Gravy, which was very good and came with these delicious red potatoes. My husband got their Farm Stand Breakfast Tacos. Those were amazingly delicious. Great combo of flavors with Cajun chicken, chorizo, scrambled eggs, guac, and pico de gallo. I could eat those every day. Wish we'd had the opportunity to come back for breakfast, because those were top shelf. The pizzas were also very tasty. We ordered four different pizzas and they were all excellent. And this place is very elegant, and with tropical plants outside the windows for a nice cozy ambiance, but not so much that we felt uncomfortable (appropriate clothing required I would think, I wouldn't come here right off the beach and I think I would hesitate to bring small children unless they were particularly well behaved). When we came for pizza (late lunch) the music was a bit obnoxiously loud, but other than that it was a great experience overall. And great service as well. One of our favorite places during our 2 weeks in Sanibel (and 2 minutes from our VRBO rental, so that was a bonus!). read more

We were looking for a casual pizza night to carry out. Dante's did not disappoint! We went for one of the specialty pizzas, a make your own and the wings. Service was amazing! I really wanted their braised short ribs, but we pushed the hours and got there too late. Sold out. But our waitress was so sweet, and when I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, recommended it with glowing reviews. Let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. We waited for an hour to be seated, then we were told it would be another hour before we could seated. Management did NOT staff appropriately. Got 4 drinks form the bar and it took 30 minutes. There was only one bar tender and she was working her rear off. She was doing great but they could have used at least one other bar tender. read more

Woof. Hopefully for them we caught them on an off night. This place was awful. 1. Entered the restaurant and were ignored for several minutes til a woman carrying a baby told us to sit wherever. 2. Out of all but three red wines on the menu. 2 of which were 48 A GLASS. Also out of some entrees. 3. Service was stupid slow. 4. 35 minutes after ordering a pizza they came to the table to say they were out of ingredients for said pizza. 5. Ordered a wood fired traditional pizza with pepperoni to go - it was one of the best pizza's I've eaten in a long time! The thin crust was crispy, and the sauce was fantastic! Even better was the young lady that took our order on the phone and then assisted me during the pickup - fun, outgoing and a talented multi- tasker! The restaurant decor is also outstanding!
