Danzhaus is our favorite special events rental in San Francisco, so we rent it out whenever we have a big party coming up. The team goes through assiduous detail to provide the best possible rental space for events - all at a fair price. In fact, the value is totally worth every penny. In event production, things happen, to put it mildly. We feel like the Danzhaus team has been through most challenges and is therefore prepared for unpredictable circumstances such as those we regularly have encountered. We just threw a teenager dance party at Danzhaus and it was just perfect. The space is a bit older but very ample, clean. Booking was a breeze and the rate was more than fair. John (owner??) was hugely accommodating and patient with all my back forth. The host, Miller, the night of the part was above and beyond helpful and always had a huge smile under his masked face. Parking was a breeze, sound system was great, disco ball spinning -- will definitely be back if the occasion presents itself. read more

I hosted a Hitchin Party (a very very non-traditional wedding) at Danzhaus for 100 folks. I plan waaaaaaay too many events, and have worked with waaaaaaaaaay too many awful, incompetent, lazy facilities people at other sites, and Anne and John simply rocked, and Anne worked her ass off on the night of my party. Thank you Anne! The space is affordable, incredibly adaptable. and if you're lucky, John will show you his Burning Man fashion creations. Danzhaus and the neighborhood is safe too, as long as you're smart. If you're daft enough to park your car on a random nearby street - um, hello, can't you SEE the projects up the hill? - and on top of that, leave your purse inside, take thee rump shakin' to to Ruby Skye, and leave Danzhaus for the rest of us. I like the fact that this space has stayed out of the way of the San Francisco-see and be seen-glamorization movement. Yes It's raw, more on the wearhousy feel and off the beaten path with it's clandestine locale (for now at least), less flashy than say your Ruby Skye or 1015's...ugh! More a venue than a club, there's no weeklies or resident DJ's because the parties are on and off, or whenever the venue is booked, so you never see those same slime balled, fake tittied type cliquesters...thank gawd! Bathrooms are pretty decent, considering that it's sort of a raw space. I love sitting on the stairs and talking to random folks passing by. The stairway/ hallway sits between the upstairs and downstairs rooms, You're really not supposed to sit there, just be conscience that someone might take a spill over you. Yea there's complaints that the place is too hot and stuffy, whah, whah, whah...so step out for some air, or relax at the bar area. Security is cool, it's not all ghestapo like most other clubs, just don't make trouble or be a jackass, say you're VIP or on some list? As far as environments this is as free as it's gonna get, enjoy it and keep that in mind! I've had some killer times there, I hope it stays as is, I'd hate to see it get all flashy-trashy trendy gentrified, I don't feel the need to rub elbows with Paris Hilton, or have some schmoe snap my photograph to go up on some cheezhead (ooh see me- look at me, in the hot nitelife) website. Once upon a time, A young gorilla that loved to dance worked his way through the quaint village of San Francisco in a single night that lasted an eternity. He left much shoe rubber on the dance floors scattered throughout the city, but one magical spot that was high on mount Potrero became the paradigm for all his groovy needs. This mystic spot was known to all the underground kids as...The Gingerbread House. While the giraffes, zebras and hyenas were already tucking themselves into their warm beds the Gorilla's night had just got to rolling. With grand Master Johnny at the helm this UG spot is off the beaten trail and not home to the squares or dance shy crowd. I have spent many a night up in Johnny's mezzanine above the dance floor appreciating the sick tech in between my own groove sessions. This is the kind of candyland that makes it a SF underground original and one of the prime reasons that I love this town. read more

Definitely an amazing place if you're trying to host a dance class/fundraiser (which is what I did). I hosted a dance workshop to raise money for the AIDS/LifeCycle which I am participating in this year. :) John was very helpful in getting me set-up when I first arrived at the place before my class and even let me in 30 minutes early! The place is not in the most bustling part of San Francisco, but there is plenty of parking and it's not too far from the Muni line. We used the Greenroom Studio which was very spacious and clean with working stereo system. I would absolutely recommend this place to anybody looking to host a dance class/event at this location! :D read more

Privacy please. Friends threw a private theme party complete with security, lasers and sound system. People danced. It went till 4. Taxi from the Mission was less than $15. Yes it does get hot. But that could have just been because everyone was enjoying themselves. Please do it again. read more

I took Shonna's class, Don't Worry Be Yonce, followed by her Pre-Pro Dance Prep class. They were very different but also fun and challenging. Shonna is an awesome dance teacher, making it easy to pick up her choreography. Don't Worry Be Yonce is an incredible class I go to as often as possible if you're a fan of Beyonce or dancing I highly recommend checking it out! The Pre-Pro Dance Class was a prep class for athletic dance tryouts (NBA and NFL dance teams). It gets you ready for the intensive tryout process and Shonna's a second-year Warrior Girl so she knows her stuff! read more

I like your beat. Your bass is nice. The crowd was fairly late teens, early 20's and very glow stick-y at the start, but hell yeah, this place brought me back to 1999! There's smoking in the hallway upstairs and I never had to wait for a bathroom. This place is ravetastical and the BYOB aspect is always a plus for keeping things on the cheap. My only complaint was the pervasive black light nonsense everywhere since I look like a fiend from hell under a blacklight with my contacts in and all my freckles. *shudder. Black lights are so unflattering and they should ONLY be found in 12 year old's bedrooms. Other than that, though lots of kids dancing and doin' it up proper like the old days. I heartily approve! Plus the hilarity factor of watching all the youngsters give each other backrubs and sea breezes cannot be underestimated. Oh the folly of youth. read more

The last party I went to at this space was a Tennis Party and I have to say it was out of control. Needless to say Bambi kinda knows the person who cerated this venue and got a personal tour on Tuesday night after a friends birthday party. I have to say it was quite an evening... It's such a wonderful thing to have in a city where one can escape from the usual venues and head out to a warehouse party in the not so populated are of the city.When ever they have an event/party there are cabs waiting outside to zip you back to where you came from. Ain't no party like a gingerbread party cuz a gingerbread party don't staahhpp (until early the next day that is)! This is the place to go if 2am is just to damned early for you to call it a night. Played at a lot of shows here and just kicked it at a lot of shows here and it definitely has it's up's and downs. The dope part of course being the hours and mostly on point music, the bad part being that it can get SUPER hot, the location isn't the best and the clientele can range anywhere from dingy to downright disgustingly sweat drenched. With that said I'm glad there's a spot like this in the city. Keep doin what you do GBH. read more

If you enjoy beautiful beats spun by great djs you know where this warehouse party haven is located. Prior to early this morning, I would have rated this place at four / four and a half stars. They book superb talent. The diverse crowd is chill; everyone enjoys themselves. There's no bar, so you're welcome to bring whatever you wish to imbibe. I've been here three times now and the music has me on the floor for hours. Doc Martin did a grand job of it last night. But safe?? Uh uh. Consider this an alert. I returned to my vehicle at 5h (technically Sunday morning) and found my passenger side window broken and my purse and some other personal effects stolen. I wasn't the only one: three other cars that were still parked on the street had experienced the same fate. My car alarm must have gone off, but apparently the residents in this 'hood were not bothered enough to ring the cops. Dance away for a $20 cover; just be aware of the possible additional costs and hassles of this venue. read more

Good space for after hours dancing. Not so many places to sit or to pee, the latter being imperative to know. I don't understand places like this. People come to dance and end up sweating their asses off and drinking tons of *water*. But getting to a toilet takes a loooong time. read more

there is a serious conflict of interest vs. location. most of the dj's and performances are at top level... the beats are maintained at the perfect warehouse in the middle of no-where : to neighboring residential area ratio. however you are in the india basin - right below the projects, with cabs as your only way out after-hours alive. on a saturday i was surpised to see the dance floor clear out by 3am, i'm not one for watching the staff clean up and swamp for their shift while the morning is still young. i've tried this club a couple of times and found each time it draws in a steady crowd of amateur fluffy bunnies and fellas in tee shirts galore, if you can hack being seasoned and dance around the fluff ~ the DJ's make it worth your while to get your step on. read more
