I really hate updating reviews. First impressions, right?? But in the case of Jimboz, how could I not. I don't want to call myself a regular because honestly I have never been there at 10am for The Price Is Right and never make it more than once in a week. But I will say I'm a huge fan! I usually go on Tuesdays which is officially "Ladies Night". But Alice is always working and treats me like her bestie!!! Nobody pours a Grand Mariner better than Alice. What? They do fancy??? Hell Yes!! Premium tequilas, good Bourbon, they have it.... but most of all you feel at home, they have very welcoming regulars. If someone is doing a food run, you will probably be included. This is the friendliest bar I've been to in almost 20 years. All the bartenders are nice, the owners are always around, the regulars are hilarious, and it takes about 2 trips to be treated like a regular. Nothing is overpriced, it's comfortable, the music is always good, and they've got something non-alcoholic for you if you're driving. I feel genuinely blessed to live near this bar. read more

Pretty much my favorite neighborhood hideout. The mixed crowd is good for people watching, and can even lead to conversation with some of the patrons. No pretentious buffoons allowed. Drinks are poured like they mean it, not too shabby. read more

I visited Santa Barbara over the weekend, made a quick stop here before heading out to another bar. Big mistake! First off, the place was really extremely crowded but there was only one bartender on staff. I made eye contact with the bartender multiple times yet he seems to have glanced passed me every time. After he made my drink, he rudely snatched my credit card out of my hand and went on processing the card. I ordered a vodka gimlet, there was very little of everything except for ice. Jimbo'z used to be a short bike ride over the overpass from my very first out-of-college-pseudo-grown-up apartment. If the tacky neon L-O-U-N-G-E lettering outside doesn't lure you in, then you probably aren't interested in what Jimbo'z has to offer. It is the perfect place to go if you are looking for a cheap drink in a small, dimly lit place with colorful local characters. A gray haired biker named Bix once bought me a shot of jack and growled in my ear like a lion there. Excellent neighborhood local bar/pub. A tv is there with sports, full service liquor bar, excellent beer selection, back area for smoking, and two pool tables and buck hunter await for entertainment. I love the lounge feel, great place to take a small group and they are open late. Fun! read more

4th time I've gone to this place. Each time greeted by a beat up - scowl faced broad and a shitty attitude. Bloody Mary's are $6.50 each and in a small glass. No olive - no celery - no salted rim. Which would be fine if it wasn't served with the bartenders opinion on my drink choice. Only nights or day worth going to? Fri and Sat night when the cool dude with the eye patch is working. I left a dollar tip for two drinks and when I walked out she actaully made a comment out loud. She's lucky she got that. Want a tip? Treat the customer good and the customer will tip. You dont get tipped on shitty service. Theres plenty of other dive bars with better options that this place. read more

WOW - What a cool place and it is a dive too! It might be a dive, but it's as good as a dive gets.! This was the final stop in a Pub Crawl that started at 10:30a at the Brewhouse and ended well after midnight here at Jimboz! We were walking back to our hotel and found this little joint with the sign outside that only says "Lounge." It took me a long time to find it on Yelp to do this review. So we walked in the door and were greeted by a big guy with an eye patch, I think his name was Jack! He greeted us, set us up on the pool table and brought us our drinks. He took excellent care of us for the duration of our visit. We kept playing pool and having a good time with the game and with Jack's service, attention, and sarcasm. He was the best. So we finished our last drink and decided it was time to go. Jack was still entertaining the entire place. We had a really good time here. Next time I am in Santa Barbara I will probably stop in - if I can remember where it is. I know, I can always Yelp it! I sure hope Jack is there because he really made us feel welcome and just like a guest in his home!! read more

Divey and fabulous! Super cheap drinks, very entertaining crowd and staff. My group had 7 drinks for under $40. There was a dog in the bar when I was there. So there's also that. Bathrooms are super weird and not so private, but it's a freaking dive bar - what do you want? Stop in for a drink! read more

I love this bar. Really love it. Friday and Saturday have the best bartender in town! Captain Jack Rules. But.., Tuesday- Thursday. Someone else bartends and makes you watch her favorite tv shows. I come here to have good drink and a good jukebox. I don't want to watch dancing with the stars or the voice. I could do that at home. I hope they fix this problem. read more

As a bar, I like this place. Friendly, bartenders. It's got a decent size and look. It has that dark, "divey" ambiance. They even play some metal here and there. Budlight's $3 and I think that may be the cheapest drink in Santa Barbara. If you get a mixed drink, you're also not disappointed with it's potency. I guess my only issue with it is that I wish it had more of a crowd going. I wish there was just a higher influx of various peoples, like my old watering hole "the Backstage" had. When you'd go to the backstage, you'd have your usual crowd, but then you'd have a cluster or strangers that decided to drop in for the day. It was the best of both worlds. Comfortable familiarity and exciting newness and unfamiliarity. It's not the bar's fault though. Santa Barbara's just not that kind of city. I'm seeing people from my gym all over there place and that's uncomfortable because we've seen each others massive dongs in the locker room. Most of the time I go, I'd say there's maybe, 5 people there (including the bartender). That's it. Everyone's a pro drinker too, where you wonder if they're even having fun with it or if hanging out at the bar has sort of turned into a job as well. They have a fun banter with the bartendress sometimes and that's fun to watch. Sometimes, it's sad because it gives me that fear of aging and losing myself further to alcoholism. Oh time, that inevitable decay that eventually takes us all. They also got pool tables. Don't tell nobody, but if I've met a date for the first time, it's usually here. It's perfect. It's a walk from home, it's relatively quiet, the drinks are stiff and there's as few witnesses as possible, in case the date is a bust. You know what else I like, the exterior. It just says "Lounge" in Neon. I didn't even know the name of this bar till like the third or fourth time I was here. I had to use google maps on my phone with the GPS. read more

Great dive!! I like the ambience and the drinks are reasonably priced. The ONLY thing I didn't like (and this is why I only gave three stars) was the cracked-out-looking bartender Yvonne or Yvette that was working one afternoon. Extremely racist ... made some comment about reggae musicians and how she didn't "like what they do to our little white girls." YUCK!! Lost my appetite for my drink and just left... I'm a big fan of neighborhood dive bars and this one makes the cut. Plenty of local flavor can be found here. On a recent Saturday evening the crowd was a mix of barflies, regulars, couples, students and young singles. The common denominator for this eclectic group was the enjoyment of strong drinks at a cheap price in a chill environment. Pool tables and juke box add to the entertainment value. We rolled in here waiting for the amazing sushi bar across the street to open and fell in love with this little neighborhood bar. Two pool tables in great condition, friendly bartender and no clubiness from the regulars. Drinks were cheap and there was plenty of seating. We will return, and stay longer this time! I hate having to stand all night long in bars, but we were able to get a table right away. Definite plus for that. Here's a place that every town needs and yet fewer and fewer do: A neighborhood bar. A place not full of tourists or even locals looking out of place in their own town. Just a good, well-made drink served by no-nonsense (but pleasant) bartenders who actually look like they give a damn about you. I live in Ventura and go to Jimboz whenever I am in Santa Barbara. I have never had a problem with the gay bashing as Melonie G. has said. They have always been friendly. I have never had a problem in there. I have been in there with several friends who are also gay. We have always been received well. read more

Went in for the first time yesterday, Independence day weekend. Great, authentic and inviting small dive! A husband and wife team Jack and Susan ran the place on my visit and like to groove to the classic funk and soul jams. Jack is a character. Honest to God he is brash, swears like a sailor and has an eyepatch. The thing to remember is that he is playing a role, so if you are thin-skinned try to lighten up and go with it. He makes a great Manhattan. They try to keep things lively and entertaining. There are plenty of amenities and stuff on the walls. I was told the city laws do not allow them to change the signage, so it just says Lounge out front. read more
