As a longtime worker of the maritime industry it's important to have great bars within walking distance. It's also important that those bars are, well, a little fuckin weird. Looks pretentious and maybe wants to be pretentious but emotionally feels like a true dive bar, which makes the space very approachable. It feels authentic. They also come out the gate blasting some pretty heavy music, which since we were there to meet our boss, was hilarious. I walked outside to check out their patio and something about that arrangement made me lose my fuckin pickles (laughing, not puking). Maybe it was the mushrooms talking. Went here on a whim after we visited a friend nearby. Been seeing it on my radar and a few of our Yelp friends gave it rave reviews, so we finally tried it. Got there right as it opened, which incidentally was during happy hour. Original plan was to just get a round of drinks and some tacos (got a Classic Old Fashioned and carnitas tacos) but ended up getting two rounds of each instead because the food and drinks were so tasty. Stopped here on Halloween night before hitting State street. They sat us in their back patio which I had never seen, it was small but cute (& much better than all the loudness inside). I really like the drinks and bites here! Minus one star because we ordered the Saigon wings and to my unpleasant surprise there was ranch heavily drizzled on them. The drink was frothy yet quenching; I would definitely order again. I ordered the tacos with carnitas (but they did offer cauliflower as an alternative, which I appreciated) and they were actually very filling and had a good flavor. I also really enjoyed the vibe of this place, it was giving gothic rodeo. The service was on point and they checked in on us multiple times. Rodeo Room is easily one of the best bars in Santa Barbara, and a huge part of that is because of Napo. If you're lucky enough to catch him working, you're guaranteed great service and even better drinks. Napo is super personable, remembers regulars, and actually cares about making sure everyone has a good time. His drinks are always on point, strong but balanced, and he moves fast even when it's packed. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. The vibe here is always fun, the music hits, and the crowd is solid, but Napo really takes it to another level. Straight-up one of the best bartenders in town. If you are in Santa Barbara, Do not skip the Rodeo Room! We stopped here for drinks and dinner on a recent trip to the area and we were not disappointed! We tried several dishes on the menu- Crispy Brussels, Caesar Salad, Wagu Steak, Smash Burger with Fries and Churro Dessert. Everything was exceptionally prepared and the flavors were expertly balanced. To say this is elevated bar food does not do the chef justice. We also tried their Strawberry Chili Basil Margarita, which was fantastic! (I also overheard another guest say the martini they ordered was the best, smoothest martini they've ever had.) On top of that, the service was exceptional! We will definitely be back the next time we visit Santa Barbara! read more

Speakeasy feels with a laidback dim-lit atmosphere. Cozy, small, intimate, and perfect for conversing. Seating: indoor, at the bar, and small outdoor patio. The Abuelita ($16): Resposado, mezcal, thyme, mole bitters. A different variation of the classic old fashioned. The mezcal provides a smokiness to the drink. It's a strong straight forward sipping drink. La Vie en Rose ($15): Vodka, coconut, rose, guava, lime, almond. Love this! There's a nice balance of the flavors and sweetness/tartness. Perfect for an after dinner drink - like a dessert. If you aren't careful you may order two of these (it's that good). The bartenders and service were friendly. They also have a small food menu, which unfortunately I didn't get to try. Overall I would come back if I'm ever in the area. read more

On Wednesday, at the last minute (5:45 pm), we decided to find a happy hour close to our VRBO. Luckily, we found Rodeo Room. They have a HH from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. You can almost walk past this little gem of a bar - it is tucked in a bit from a few restaurant/bar storefronts. The Spicy Strawberry Margaritas are amazing, the bartenders are friendly, and the Korean wings were spicy hot and delicious. The vibe is speakeasy-meets-NY chic. I came here with my partner when we were on a little mini vacation to Santa Barbara. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here at Rodeo Room. I ordered the gingerbread martini and it was so yummy. It was reminiscent of an espresso martini and it came with a little gingerbread cookie in the drink. For food, my partner and I ordered the Korean wings and the Mac on crack. The Korean wings had the perfect amount of spice and flavor for me. The Mac on crack truly lived up to its name, with the ideal amount of cheesiness. Our server was super friendly and she helped us out so much finding what we wanted to order. The ambiance reminded me of a speakeasy, since it was also a bit hard to find the door at first. The brussel spouts were the best I've had anywhere. So flavorful and perfect crisp on them. We tried the korean wings and the smash burger. All very good. We visited Rodeo Room for New Year's Eve and had a great experience! They did sell tickets in advance, but we ended up just paying the $20/person at the door. We showed up so early that the bar was relatively empty, but it did fill up quickly as the night went on. The ambiance was fantastic and the small space and moody speakeasy-like vibe really reminded me of New York. The kitchen was open late, so we started with dinner and drinks at the bar. We ordered the Crispy Brussels, RR Korean Wings, and Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls. I wasn't expecting much from bar food, but was so impressed at how great it was! All three items were pretty much perfect - flavors, presentation, portion size, etc. For drinks, we asked the bartender if he could make any mocktails, and he really took that as a challenge. Each time, he would make up a new one and all of them were delicious. My favorite one of the night kind of tasted like blackberry jam and was truly a work of art. He also poured us iced tea shots later in the night and was generally so fun to interact with. The DJ also did an excellent job with the music, and everyone had a great time. This is a sweet gastropub in Santa Barbara. The aesthetic is very dark and romantic. We came in for happy hour and ordered a chili strawberry margarita and an old fashioned. We also ordered the 4 food items included in the happy hour menu, chicken bites, Brussels sprouts, street tacos and Korean wings. Let's start with the drinks, the chili strawberry margarita was SPICY! When I saw chili I assumed it would have a chili rim, which was my mistake. At first the spice hits hard but as you continue drinking it, it got better. The old fashioned was a good (my husband's words not mine) because I don't enjoy whiskey. Now the food, the Brussels sprouts were the star of the show, they were nice and crispy with the sweet honey lime sauce and cheese. The street tacos were good and well balanced, my only issue was that they got soggy quick and broke apart, but the flavor was good. The chicken bites with buffalo sauce were delicious, can't really mess up ordering those! Now the Korean wings were good but not as crispy as I'd hoped, they sauce was sweet but needed a little kick.
