DO NOT GO HERE!!! Got my septum pierced a week ago. The ball fell out and I had to go to cliffs to get a replacement, because this place was closed. Immediately the piercer at cliffs said it was horribly low, not properly done, pierced through the cartilage, and at risk for rejecting through the bottom of my nose. Got a second opinion at Notorious tattoo, where they also said it was completely wrong. Called them to politely ask for a refund, they said since we didn't notice an Issue within 24 hours they won't refund. They won't even admit they screwed it up. I'm sorry but I paid a "professional" $108 and I tipped 20, how am I supposed to know that it was done improperly. Thankfully the ball did fall off otherwise I wouldn't have been aware how botched it truly was. Ariel designed such a beautiful lion memorial tattoo for my brother. He put so much consideration and care into his artwork. We talked beforehand about what I wanted. DISCLAIMER: I am not here to say everything in this parlor is awful. I am stating my experience with my industrial bar. I went to Dark Child, 6-7 weeks ago as a tourist in the Long Island area. Everything went well, the staff and piercer were friendly. BUT, the aftermath of my industrial piercing was terrible. Let it be known that I took care of this piercing vigorously. Two to three time a day, salt soaks, salt water solution spray, and antibacterial soap. I took care of this piercing, without a doubt. The sixth week, my skin was starting to cover the bar on the inside of the ear. My ear was extremely raw from where the bar had dug into the skin. I went to my local piercing studio to ask if my piercing was infected, rejecting, etc. He said it was the worst piercing he has ever seen in his 15+ years of experience. He helped me take out the piercing and told me let it heal. He told me the piercing was "too deep". I am glad I listened to myself and went to get it checked out before it got worst. Don't go here. Went to get my septum pierced, it came out uneven/crooked. The left side was fine but the right side was too high, it looked as if it was pierced at an angle. I called them to see if they could fix it (refund or repierce it) they said there's no way they did it incorrectly. Went back and forth with them, they pretty much told me I don't know what I'm talking about. I even consulted another licensed piercer to confirm I wasn't just looking at it the wrong way, she also agreed that they pierced it incorrectly. The girl who pierced it pretty much told me there's no way she did it wrong and that I wasn't looking at it right. I offered to come in to the shop so they could see that it is in fact crooked but shockingly they didn't say anything to that. Told me I could take it out and let it heal and they'd repierce it for me, but would have to pay again of course. I wouldn't have to get it redone and waste more money if they didn't mess it up in the first place. $65 wasted. Don't waste your money here like I did. Clearly "25 years" of experience isn't enough for some people. Also attaching pictures since the piercer didn't believe me :) I have a lot of piercings and I'm constantly around people with piercings, I know what they're supposed to look like. you guys shouldn't doubt your customers so much. The fact that you didn't even accept my offer for me to come in and show you how uneven it is speaks volumes. And I'm not one to leave bad reviews, but this situation was handled so poorly. No one apologized or even admitted that they messed up. Instead they tried to say it was my fault, that the piercing was done straight but it's now permanently crooked because I moved it around afterwards. Accidents happen sometimes and that's ok, but trying to shift the blame and say that it came out crooked because I touched it afterwards is bs. Me touching it a couple of times would not have completely moved the hole upward, in the pictures you can see that the piercing hole is nowhere near the blue dot that was made by the piercer. read more

I don't even know where to start.. I've been a patron of DCT since 2009, and I have steadfastly refused to go anywhere else. I live in Flushing, and the fact that I'm always willing to make the one hour drive there (without traffic) should say something about the skill level of Caryn and the master himself, Ari. Firstly, DCT might be a bit hard to find for those of you who aren't used to the neighborhood. It's situated in a small private row of stores including an auto parts place. The sign by the driveway says "TATTOO" so if you see it, you're there. There's a private lot which is always nice because who wants to street park? I've seen the place change over the years, and the current setup is my favorite; huge black leather wraparound sofa with an area for you to view their art books, simple glass display case of piercings and other products, and the counter right behind it. You'll always hear great music bumping through the store because why wouldn't you have great music bumping? You may be greeted by one of several people, but know that it's a family business. That's one of the things I love most about DCT; the closest knit group of family and good people, so you will never have to worry about anything. Caryn has done my previous five tattoos, but yesterday's appointment was with Ari. It was for a cover-up with a complex piece, so the job fell to him. That's another thing I love about this place; this isn't a St Mark's hole in the wall with guys who well apply whatever piece you want without any thought or care. Bring your idea days in advance to give them time to make their plan and whatever adjustments they think will be necessary (know that you have to be flexible and open minded because a piece on paper may not translate perfectly onto your body.) These are pure professionals. Trust their advice and suggestions. As hilarious and easy going as they are, they are serious about business, their business and that's evident in the insane amount of prep work and cleaning that is routine for them. Every certification and license you can think of, dark child has. The surgical precision with which they work on your body? Daaaaaaaang! Now, they aren't cheap. They will be the first ones to tell you that. But are you really willing to risk being disappointed with something that will be on your body for the rest of your life because you're feeling stingy? If you're cheap or broke, maybe you shouldn't get a tattoo. You get what you pay for. You can trust me and them. They've treated me like family each and every time, and it's a privilege for me. read more

Back in mid-2017 I got a helix piercing done here. I was nervous since it was my first one, and the girl who pierced my ear was nice and professional. The parlour was clean, and she wiped down the chair before I sat in it for extra sanitation. The reason I'm giving this place a 3 star rating is due to the type of jewlery she gave me. I was told the standard aftercare maintanence, and the healing time was 6-12 months. My helix piercing still hadn't completely healed even after 13 months! I checked with a different piercer who told me it was caused by the type of backing that held my jewlery in my ear. The jewlery had a "butterfly" backing (it's a flat horizontial bar with the two loops on top of it that you squeeze together to "unlock" the jewlery), which promotes the growth of bacteria due to how difficult it is to clean (according to the other piercer). After switching out jewlery, my ear healed within a fortnight (2 weeks). This is something I assume a piercer should know, considering the probability of either infection or rejection. As for recommending this place, I'm not going to because of the risk of infection from the jewlery. read more

First, I need to apologize to DCT for not writing a review earlier. I HAVE been going there for years, referring people for years & it takes this ignorant post for me to post a review. So, to everyone at Dark Child - I apologize for skipping a critical step in the process - not writing a review at the time of service. Now, for a reply to this comment. This woman has not been coming for years, I saw her about a year ago, maybe a little over a year, but certainly not for years. Note to self when attempting to take someone out on social media (which I don't advise) #1: make sure you can back it up with solid documentation #2 please use this amazing tool called the spell checker before hitting submit & lastly, if you do not have documentation, do a bit of research on the words libel & slander. I came to DCT by way of accompanying a friend who was getting, of all things, a touch up, by none other than Aja. Before this, I had one tattoo done many years ago & was perfectly happy with just that one. I went along for the ride (about 2 hours from the Bronx) & thought that would be it. The entire crew there, Aja, Ari, Caryn, Vel & the rest of the non-staff crew were warm, welcoming & they all had this zany humor that I clicked with right off the bat. The cover up was done on my friend & to this day, I cannot see what her original tatt was. The shop is super clean & they are serious about their instruments. Since then, I have been back for a touch up on mine & gotten several other pieces done, all by Aja & have a plan for a larger piece later this year. I was in the shop on a few occasions when Samantha came in. Never once was she anything but ecstatic about the work Aja had done - NEVER. She bragged (& rightfully so, about her pieces) that she was being chosen to represent Aja's work from Dark Child, to which I believe Aja won 2nd best female Tattoo Artist in Colorado - look it up for yourself. I remember one night, she was trying to talk Aja into a cover up she wanted & Aja patiently trying to explain that it was not a good idea & why. I had just finished up & was on my way out, but it sounded to me in that brief conversation, that she realized that Aja made sense in what she was saying - Welp, I guess not. At the end of the day, if you go to a specialist, an expert in their field & put forth an idea & this person tells you it's not a good idea & why, they may know what they're talking about. This is something you are putting on your body for life. Artistic input for your dream idea is everything, but if the idea is flawed, listen to your artist - they do this for a living. Reading the screen shots, however, makes me quite sad for her & I genuinely pray she gets some help. read more

Went here to get several from Caryn and she worked on my friends as well. Piercing room is very private and comfortable, I like how you are free to bring someone, while some places don't allow others to be in the same area while you are pierced. Caryn knows what she is talking about, and puts you at ease. First time I went there the shop had just opened. Ariel the owner did my outline it's awesome. This review isn't about the quality of work. He's good. Its about how I left a 100$ deposit and get called 2 hours before to tell me that it was going to be 200$ more then discussed and agreed upon. After going back and forth several times by email I said I didn't feel comfortable getting tatted by an angry artist and that i wasn't going to come. And I want my deposit back because of that. So they took my money changed the price after and refused to give my deposit back after I didn't agree with the new price. The argument was about whether or not I said color or not color calling me a liar when I brought a picture of the exact colors I wanted. I got my nose piercing done here in June. Piercing went well, nothing out of the ordinary, and I was given a brochure with aftercare tips as well as the size of my stud, which they said was 16g. I thought that was a little big as nostril piercings are more commonly 18-20g, but it didn't bother me at all. 4 months later in October, I went back to change it to a hoop. I had bought a hoop at the mall (a mistake) and it said it was a 16g like what i was told mine was. The same girl changed it that pierced it. She tried to change it but it wouldn't go through so the jewelry was too big. So I bought a hoop from there, also 16g. She had taken out my stud already so she'd seen it. When she put the hoop in, it was very painful. Hurt more than the initial piercing. But I knew nose piercings were usually more uncomfortable especially the first time changing it so I just accepted it. It was a hoop with a bendable gap, and she left a gap in it, also fine. However a couple days later I noticed I couldnt twist the hoop in my nose, I could only twist it in the other direction. I got worried that maybe the gap was in the hole and was closing over, so I went to a different tattoo shop near school to look at it. When that person took out the hoop and looked at my stud, they were completely different sizes. She said the stud looked like an 18g, and the hoop was 16g. So I had to have my old stud put back in. Basically, it was just very frustrating to have to pay for the hoop and for them to change it, when it was the wrong size jewelry and caused me more pain and inconvenience than it should have. Let me start by saying, this was the first ever tattoo shop I ever walked into about 2 years ago. I didn't have any tattoos at the time and wasn't sure how it all worked. The staff at dark child did everything they possibly could to make me few comfortable and at home. From the idea of what I wanted, to my first ink. I now have a full sleeve that was done by the one and only Aja. She worked with me from the very start and made sure we were both on the same page throughout the entire process. I love my arm and wouldn't change a thing. She is by far the best there is. Aside from all the work I had done, I also took away much more than just tattoos, friendship. The folks who run this place are always kind and welcoming. And willing to go above and beyond the call of duty. I always feel welcome when walking into their shop, feels like home. One thing I want to mention is being from out of state, I went home and my buddy saw the work I had done and had to have some himself. So a 3hr drive later, Aja was working her magic on him as well.
